The New Start

Rate this book
She wanted a new start.
The house had other plans.
Heartbroken and desperate to disappear, Lisa leaves her old life behind and moves to a remote house on the edge of the country, part of what was once an Elizabethan manor, steeped in local whispers and unfinished business.

Her nearest neighbour is Peggy, an isolated woman crippled by grief after the death of her troubled daughter, Rose. The estate agent assures Lisa the past is firmly in the past.

It isn’t.

Soon after moving in, Lisa discovers a diary hidden in the house. Through Rose’s own words, a disturbing story unfolds, one of obsession, revenge, and a capacity for violence that grows darker with every page.

Then the house begins to change.

Strange noises. Unexplained movements. A growing sense that Lisa is not alone.

As fear tightens its grip, Lisa becomes convinced the house is haunted. A séance seems to confirm it. But the truth, when it comes, is far more terrifying than any ghost.

The New Start is a psychological thriller with supernatural elements, told through dual timelines and diary entries, exploring grief, obsession, revenge, and the lies we tell ourselves to survive.

Dark, unsettling, and quietly brutal, this is a story about how the past never stays buried…

What an absolutely fun read! It was full of twists and turns that definitely kept me at the edge of my seat ...and up way past my bedtime 😂🙈. I absolutely love the relationship between the main character and her dog; That felt super relatable to me. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to others.

The New Start is a haunting psychological thriller that blends quiet dread with a subtle touch of the supernatural. Taut, elegant prose drives a story where reality slowly fractures and nothing feels accidental. The final twist is both startling and satisfying, reframing everything that came before.
I just couldn't put it down.
