Not a bad book &/or start to a series. Even if you don't go on to book 2, it was still enjoyable and ended at a good enough spot. I did find my mind wandering a bit and had a feeling this may be suited more for the YA crowd and thought it would be excellent for boys who enjoy adventure.

I was given an ARC of the new fantasy story and it was enjoyable.

Orphan Xander has to live by his wits to survive and inadvertently stumbles upon a secret...

From the beginning, this tale paints the scenes, draws the characters and shows us magic. These ingredients are mixed into an adventure of mystery and enemies. Magic is outlawed so to keep power for those at the top.

Well-written from various points of view, this was an entertaining and engaging tale. Who will succeed?
