When Mila was nine years old, she was found abandoned in a field near the eerie town of Hollow Grove with no memory of her past and haunted by visions of the future.

Nine years later, Mila’s life is almost as normal as any other eighteen-year-old. That is until she starts seeing visions of the murder of Nyjah Bradley, a guy she’s never met before, but whose face is branded into her mind.

Plagued by the vision, Mila decides to track down Nyjah and warn him of his impending death. But when the search leads her back to Hollows Grove, she discovers there’s more to the sleepy town than meets the eye.

"Hidden in the Red Hill Mountains is the quiet town of Hollows Grove. In that town, there is a field where a secret is buried deep beneath the ground. And in that field is whee the girl was found. How she got there, no one know, but she'll never be free no matter how far away she goes. And just when she thinks time has forgotten, she'll have no choice but to return."

Ultraviolet is intriguing and mysterious, right from the get go. Protagonist Mila woke up abandoned in a field at the age of nine with no recollection of her past. Mila is able to get glimpses of the future, which she takes advantage of to keep her loved ones from getting hurt.

But then she had a vision--but she's not sure if it's a vision or a dream--where a stranger (who apparently knows her) is killed. She's used to having visions of the people she cares about or knows, which is why she's uncertain about her vision of this certain stranger. With her best friend Novela, who is the only one aware of Mila's abilities, the two girls decided to tour on their summer road-trip and visit Hollows Grave first to help out the stranger.

Little did they know how dangerous, creepy, terrifying, and haunting the town of Hollows Grove is.

Surprisingly, Ultraviolet was a quick and engrossing read. I liked the friendship between Novela and Mila. I liked how the mysterious, thrilling aspect of the book continued to pile on as the story continued.
However, it was short. And it felt like nothing happened. Don't get me wrong, I loved how the novel set up the easygoing friendship between Novela and Mila. I loved how the novel set up the mysterious aspect between Mila and the love interest, Nyjah.
But that's the thing. Everything about this novel felt more like a set up than anything else. There's no resolution, no huge conflict, no big bad, nada, nothing. The entire book felt like it's trying to set up the basis for other novels to come.
I'm excited to see how this series turns out.

I’m a big fan of Jessica Sorensen’s work so I was excited to see something different from her. ULTRAVIOLET is the first in a serial that is more Young Adult than NA and it definitely has a more thriller/suspense feel to it. I read Sorensen’s other thriller book that was strangely twisted so I was happy to see that there will be more to it.

Mila is just your ordinary eighteen year old who has these strong visions. She doesn’t know what they mean or why they are happening, but there’s something very familiar about them that makes her nervous. Her best friend, however, isn’t too concerned as they set out on this road trip that they have been planning since they were kids.

As they set off, Mila wants to check out the quiet town of Hollows Grove which is actually where she is originally found. In fact, she is so grounded in the town that she was found in the dirt.

Yeah. A lot of strange things happen in this book but I’m very eager to find out what happens. Since Sorensen is no stranger to cliffhangers, you can bet that this serial will be packed with them.

Sorensen has some very fun characters in this story so I think it will be easy to follow the serial since readers can actually connect with them. And this Nyjah character really intrigues me…I cannot wait to see where this series goes.

EXCERPT

Goosebumps dot my arms as I become highly aware that there’s not a single drop of noise within earshot. Not even our shoes hitting the dirt make a sound. I want to ask Novela if she notices it, but I don’t want to risk upsetting her more than she is. I try to keep it to myself but then I hear the soft pitter-patter of light footsteps rushing up behind us. Do you hear us? Do you hear us? Welcome back. Welcome back. We’ve been waiting for you, Mila. Our gazes lock and without looking back, Novela and I take off in a mad sprint down the road “Oh my God, we’re going to die,” she pants as she struggles desperately to keep up with me. “We’re not going to die.” I gasp for air as I push my legs harder than I ever have before. I don’t know what’s behind us. If it’s following us. What it wants. But as we near the edge of town, I dare look back over my shoulder and instantly wish I wouldn’t have. Because standing in the darkness of the road, watching us from a distance, is a lofty figure.

This was just fucking weird. As my first Jessica Sorensen book, I expected things be better, more interesting. Instead, I was given a mediocre story that hardly made sense and tried too hard to be scary.
An editor also should have checked this.

Not the type of thing I normally read, but I love Jessica Sorensen's writing and her books.

This was good. It's a little strange, and a bit confusing. But I think that's the point. It definitely left me wondering what was going on, so I'll definitely check the next episode out.

Mila left Hollow Grove nine years ago and her memories of the place are vague. With her eighteenth birthday approaching, she begins to hear voices in her head encouraging her to head back to Hollow Grove. She also dreams of a boy being tortured and threatened to be killed unless she returns. I liked the mysteriousness and the creepiness surrounding Hollow Grove (even the name of the town sounds ominous). I enjoyed the characters but there wasn't much to go on seeing as this 'episode' was quite short. I did like the setup though and I'm left wondering what could possibly happen next!

Must read all her books

If you have read anything by Jessica Sorensen you will understand when I say she is both evil and a genius (evil genius perhaps?). If you haven't read anything she has written- GO! NOW! Ultraviolet is an intriguing, sucks you in story of a girl wondering from where she came. The hint of paranormal will keep your attention and the fluidity of the writing will leave you begging for the next installment. Ultraviolet is a great beginning of the series and I cannot wait to read more!

Ultraviolet is the first instalment of a serial novel that any reader could devour in one sitting.
We start the book with a girl awakening in a field with no memory of how she got there or who she is/was – all she knows is that it’s her birthday. Fast forward nine years and we meet Mila (the girl in the field) and we see that she has had a great life after being placed with foster parents elsewhere, she’s just graduated high school and she and her best friend are heading off on a road trip before they head off to college.
Just before she leaves however, she starts have dreams about the murder of a young man that seems so real. What is also startling is that she feels like she knows him and that his name is Nyjah, she also knows that there is a connection to Hollows grove, the place she was found in all of those years ago. She knows what she has to do, she has to go to Hollows Grove and warn him that he will die but whilst something is telling her to go – something is also telling her to stay away.
As the girls set off on their trip Mila unconsciously makes the decision to head for the place…. But what will they find there? Does Nyjah even exist? If he does, how do they plan on saving him?
So, I really enjoyed this and for all it is only 81 pages, it’s sets the full book up perfectly. I was reeled in by the mystery of it all, at first when the girl wakes up in the field, I wanted to know who she was, why was she there? My curiosity was awoken straight away and I wanted to know more. With the fast forward it was nice to see that Mila had been happy where she ended up, life seems great for her and although she is a little bit of a loner her friend had brought her out of her shell. Mila also has a gift where she knows things will happen before they happen and we get a glimpse of how that works in her daily life and sort of introduces her to her BFF too which I thought was cool. I always like a paranormal element in my books and this fit in well with the feel of the book. Mila has a great friend in Novela, she’s cool but cooky too and I love how she accepts all that is Mila without question, there camaraderie is felt throughout the book so that when risks are taken, it’s no surprise that they have each-others backs.
Obviously, Mila is going to end up right in the place she doesn’t want to be – Hollows Grove – and it’s everything you would expect it to be; Small town in the middle of nowhere; Practically empty; Mysterious and full of eeriness…. In fact, it was perfect and the atmosphere was palpable plus you get the feeling that this place has a LOT of secrets of which I will remain silent about. We do learn quite a bit in this but obviously it’s just an introduction but sets up the scene for a very intriguing story and everything that seems to be going on – all focuses on Mila. In such a short story this book did the business by reeling me in and making me want more, I really wish this wasn’t a serial novel though because I hate waiting for things so maybe I will wait until all of the parts are out so that I can fully immerse myself in the whole book. Brilliant start though.

Jessica Sorensen never ceases to amaze me with her creative stories. I was apprehensive about reading Ultraviolet because it had a paranormal theme. I was expecting the predictable type of paranormal story and Jessica delivered something altogether different. I don’t know if a paranormal is the right genre to classify this series in. It could easily fall under the horror genre.

Ultraviolet : Season 1 -Episode 1 is a fast read. The reader can easily read this story on their lunch break. It is gives a strong introduction to leading character, Mila. Mila has an interesting background. She has no memory of her life before she was nine years old. She was abandoned in a small town in the mountains at the age of nine. She was adopted into a loving family and has had a happy life. The one thing that Mila has that is odd is her visions. She can foresee events in the future. She keeps her visions a secret from her family. Her best friend is the only one she has confided in about her visions.

Nine years later Mila is eighteen and has recently graduated from high school. She is planning a summer road trip with her best friend. Right before they are about to embark on their road trip Mila begins having visions. These visions are unlike any of the other visions she has had. They are coming to her in dreams as well as her conscience time. In these visions she witnesses a young man getting murdered. The vision is quite clear that she is the only one that can save him.

The road trip leads to an impromptu stop in the town where she was found deep in the mountains. What happens once she enters the town limits will frighten even the bravest soul.

Ultraviolet ends on a major cliffhanger that leaves the reader biting their nails and chills down their spine. I had goosebumps reading this book. In a lot of ways it reminded of the television show American Horror Story. It wasn’t the story itself that reminded me of it but the format and delivery of the story. Jessica Sorensen has mastered writing a chilling story that will leave the reader frightened and wanting more.

Jessica Sorensen has a way with writing. I’ve read all of her work for the most part, and she was one of my first forays back into reading. What I find she does so well is setting up that mysterious factor. She doesn’t give away much but weaves the suspense right in there without much light into it at all. On top of that, she’s just a great overall writer.

“Even though I was breathing and my heart beat steadily, pumping life through my veins, my mind was hollow, soundless, dead.”

Mila comes from Hollow Grove. She’s different, very much so. And something or someone has forced that to be. There’s something sinister in play drawing her back to where she belongs, and she can’t much help the pull. But, the girl who can see things can’t see where this trip will take her. She can’t see the repercussions or the reasonings. What happened to Hollow Grove and what exactly is Mila?

“Sometimes, I feel like my life is a map, paved with visions of dead end streets that zigzag back and forth, guiding me to nowhere. And if someone were to try to read the map, all they’d see is confusion, covered by lies.”

While this episode is not very long, I think Ms. Sorensen did pack a lot into it. We get to know Mila and who she is pretty quickly. We briefly get to see the suspense build before it ends. I am very, very curious to how this will play out and I am completely looking forward to where this story will take us. As always, I know this will be a trippy ride.

In this book, we follow Mila as she sets to go off on a road trip wither her best friend, Novela. The first stop is an eerie place called Hollow Grove where Mila had a vision that someone would get murdered there and they want to stop it. But once they get there, they it might have been a lie planted by ‘the whispers’ to trap her in the town.

This book reminds me a lot of a Stephen King novel because of the creepiness in the writing. Sorensen did an amazing job at creating the creepy and eerie town setting that may need to read this book with the lights on. Oh yeah, and make sure that you are not home alone.

The story is short, but it is long enough to grab your attention. There is a cliffhanger at the end of the book, but I would expect that for every book in this series.

This series is going to be released in what Sorensen called ‘episodes’. Considering how fast she writes book, it’s going to be a fitting way of describing the series. They are short quick reads (around 90 pages) that you are going to be able to read probably in a few hours. With the type of genre that this story is dabbling it, it’s going to be one that you are going to want to read all at once because it screams cliffhangers.

Ultraviolet is a fast paced introduction to Mila's world, aka the frightening town of Hollows Grove. She's seeing disturbing visions of the future, and when she sets out with her bestie on a post-graduation cross country trip, she's compelled to visit the town where she was found years ago.

Yeah, so it's creepy right from the beginning. I liked that about this story. There's a palpable level of "something is really, really wrong here" on these pages, and that made for a really suspenseful and disturbing read.

Jessica Sorensen is a master at knowing just what point in the story will yield the biggest cliffhanger, the kind that make you want to paw at your e-reader, because you need to know what happens next. She does a good job of that here, leaving me wondering what will happen to Mila and Novela. There's plenty to wonder about after reading this first episode.

I thought this was a good start to the series, it has me wanting more, but the tricky thing with episodic stories is that they be delivered in a timely manner to keep that interest going. So I'm waiting anxiously for part 2, hoping it will be released soon.

If you are looking for a quick YA/NA read that's dark and creepy, you might like this one.

Ultraviolet is the first in a novella series.
Mila, a girl with a mysterious past, experiences sinister whispers and dreams drawing her back to an even more mysterious town. She's determined to ignore the pull, but when Mila and her friend Novela set off on a road trip before starting college the steering wheel practically turns itself towards the unknown.
The prologue completely hooked me. It's going to be agony waiting to find out what the heck is going on.
The main characters are undoubtedly interesting. I gotta say I'm worried for them. Things are going to get a bit hairy me thinks!

I really liked this book because the story was kind of "creepy". I need to know more about the creepy shadows, Nyjah, why the town is cursed and why it's Mila's fault. I REALLY need answers but I hope the second installment has them.
