Thank you so much Angelica for letting me ARC read your story. If this were a movie I’d watch it in a heartbeat! Kate and Alex was the perfect balance for each other. This was a low spice romance of two college students trying to figure out what they want out of life while trying not to disappoint their parents. The story was beautifully written and so relatable especially in my own life. I may have watery eyes and a knot in my throat a few times. I highly recommend this book if you like dual POV, slow burn romances, and emotional journeys.

✨ This book was so much fun from start to finish! Both of the main characters were easy for me to relate to and could easily see myself doing things they would do.

Kate is a nursing student who needs a Chemistry tutor and she happens to find Alex through a post on a bulletin board. Sounds simple enough but it’s not…
Kate isn’t sure she even wants to be a nurse, and while Alex has helped her grades, she struggles with what she really wants to do vs. her perceived parental expectations.
Alex is absolutely sure he wants to be a pharmacist, but he also wants Kate, and this is a problem. His parents are immigrants and have a plan for their son that does not include being sidetracked by an American girl.
As their relationship grows and we watch them decide what they want their futures to look like and what they’re willing to risk to get there.
I didn’t really get Kate’s anxiety about switching career paths and her parents’ reaction. It was built as her parents were in the medical field so she felt she had to follow, but she had two older siblings in other careers.
But Alex??? My heart broke for him as he wrestled with family obligation vs. happiness, with original career plan vs. backups, with Kate vs. no Kate, family vs. no family 💔 This boy was going THROUGH it and bless her heart, Kate tried. She wondered if she should step back, or jump in and fix it, or just wait it out…and she tried all of it 😢
Family is the biggest element of the story as we see a lot of both Kate’s and Alex’s. This is book two in the Waverly Cove series and perhaps I wouldn’t have been so overwhelmed with all of Kate’s family’s names if I had read book 1, but there were a lot 😳

Changing course is a slow burn and college romance story.There are some books you read… and then there are books that quietly stay with you—and Changing Course is definitely one of them.
Kate’s journey felt so real to me. The way she starts off feeling lost, stuck, and unsure about her life—it’s something so many of us can relate to but don’t always say out loud. Watching her slowly step out of that space, take risks, and allow herself to grow was honestly comforting.
And then there’s Alex. Their relationship isn’t rushed or perfect, and that’s what made it beautiful. It’s built on patience, understanding, and emotional healing rather than just romance.

This was a sweet slow burn college romance that centers around the difficulty of making big decisions as a young adult- career, love, romance, and family. This is a prequel to her first book, Uncharted Waters in the Waverly Cove series. The begins with Kate, who is a college sophomore struggling in her organic chemistry class as well as her decision to become a nurse. She sees a notice on a bulletin board for a tutor and decides to ask for help. Alex is a first generation Chinese American who has always followed his parents wishes including him going to graduate school to obtain a PhD in Pharmacy. The tutoring goes well and they become friends. They are bother struggling with career choices as well as future partners. Their friendship blossoms into something more and the choice to become something more will cause Alex ton make a choice between his family and Kate.

I don’t read a lot of college/student books, but good God I loved this book.
I love how Kate’s uncertainty was explained and shown. A lot of people go through this but it usually isn’t shown. It was shown so perfectly in this book. The struggles and pain.
Kate’s more down to earth, more spontaneous and fun, whereas Alex is like…let’s do stuff by the book! It’s a perfect balance of Chaos and Calm and it was shown so beautifully. Ugh I’ll never get over how amazing feelings and thoughts can be put into words by authors. It’s literally someone else’s life in my hands and their feelings in my mind😩
Kate’s family was there for her. Was protective and caring for her and her decisions. She has an amazing support system which is so great. They may interfere but, they love her, and will do anything to help her make the right decisions for her future.
Changing Course changed me. Changed my perspective on so many things college students go through on a day to day basis.

This Waverly Cove romance was such a cozy read for me. Also, very quick. I read mostly fantasy so this was a bit of a palette cleanser for me.
I started my law school journey in Boston, so having the setting of the T, Quincy, and Mike's Pastry carried a little nostalgia for me and memories from 1L year.
Alex and Kate are the story of opposing cultures converging through a relationship built on appreciating someone for exactly who they are. I loved the growth they both showed through it and the places they learned to meet in the middle. I appreciated the truth it gave to the struggles of family support, expectations and everything in between without taking away from Alex and Kate's story.
I loved Kate, although I have to admit I am myself more of an Alex. A cute story with good feels throughout, definitely recommend you step into Waverly Cove.

Changing Course was a sweet contemporary romance. I loved how Alex and Kate grew together throughout the story. I enjoyed them learning to let go of expectations, challenging themselves, finding what makes them happy, and all the other discoveries along the way. Life isn't a straight forward path and I think this book did a great job of showing the good and the bad and how much can change for the better and worse along the way.

Alex has his entire life planned out, until he starts tutoring Kate. Working with her makes him realize it’s okay to want something different. He’s dealing with family pressure and all the fear that comes with stepping into the unknown, which made his journey feel especially real.
Kate has always had a plan too and everyone around her supports it. The problem? She’s not sure she believes in it anymore. Even with Alex as her tutor, she can’t find the passion she thought she had for nursing, and that inner conflict really stood out.
As they grow closer, everything they thought they wanted starts to shift. Together, they have to figure out what they truly want and how to go after it.
I loved how realistic this story felt. So many people can relate to feeling stuck or unsure about their future, and this captured that perfectly. I felt for Alex so much throughout the book, and I’m really glad they both found the strength to choose their own paths.

This was my first visit to Waverly Cove and I am sure to be back! I enjoyed Kate and Alex's love story so much. Anyone who has had to go against the grain to figure out what is right for themselves will relate so much to this story. Both MCs are strong in their own right, but getting to HEA was a struggle! There were times that I wanted to toss my Kindle across the room (that scene when she takes the train to the restaurant). But it was worth it!

Alex and Kate were so wonderful in this book. I loved the way they connected. Helping one another at first, and then blossoming into so much more. I absolutely loved the cross cultural element. This is my first time reading something like this. And it was great seeing how they navigated that. This story has a wonderful storyline and it really kept me engaged. This was definitely one that I enjoyed spending an afternoon with. I thought it was a great sweet and cozy story. Loved it.

I swear I’ll read all of Angelica’s no matter how many she has to publish cuz omg!
Firstly, we need to talk about the representations! I love the fact that Alex is Chinese,yet he isn’t just the stereotypical Chinese guy. I know a lot of friends whose family moved to other countries for the sake of a better future of their children! I love how the Golden dragon actually captured authentic Chinese culture,food and preparation, and not just some cdrama stereotypes ! The Chinese names were so fun to see ! Alex calling his parents ‘Baba’ 爸爸 and ‘Mama” 妈妈 was such a nice touch! Though I personally call my dad 阿爸 and mum 阿媽,Alex calling his parent’s the respectful way was honestly so on character !
Secondly,I’ve always been into the ‘finding self’ trope in books,I love when I read realistic books that really get you thinking.
Finding yourself can be the hardest part of the journey, yet there are so many layers underneath the surface. Family pressure,uncertainty and doubt can consume plans and turn everything complicated. I love how the character development of each character-not just the main two ,but everyone,has their own perspective of the story. No one is in the wrong,yet their feelings and thoughts may not align.
Alex’s character was super relatable. Growing up , my friends and I woke up at 6 am to get ready for school,then went back home at 8 pm for dinner and further studying. Our life’s goal was just to get good grades,get into medicine,and make enough to support my family.With parents that didn’t have the money or ability to choose their own path,they wanted to give their children what they didn’t get to have. We didn’t have a choice,in fact, I didn’t bother thinking of what I wanted to do. Alex spent his life chasing that dream,trying to study so that his parents’ sacrifices wouldn’t be wasted. Every moment,every day has carefully planned with time tables,spreadsheet, every lesson and plan was marked in his calendar. Until he met Kate.I loved his character growth from the turning point to end. Kate’s spontaneous self interrupted his mind,his schedules,his texts and his life, yet for once, he didn’t mind the extra attention.
The tutoring trope is truly one of the most underrated tropes out there. How Alex understood Kate and helped her study chemistry in her own way was the sweetest! Kate’s free-spirited nature opened new doors for him. From being taken care of when he’s sick,to thinking about the future he wanted for himself. He broke free of his mold to peruse and embrace what and who he loved. Alex’s character growth was incredibly well written!
Kate’s emotional growth was inspiring, and she really showed how we don’t need to be afraid of others’ opinions,or disappointing people you love! Kate knew deep down that nursing never clicked with her,formulas were never as exhilarating as art. After meeting Alex,they complemented each other,as well as helped each other develop. She was that cheerleading Alex needed in his life, and he was that confirmation she needed. I loved seeing how Kate went from struggling nursing student,to that joyful artist.I love how Angelica also used her art to show her relationship and feelings towards Alex. Sometimes,your actions truly speak louder than words!
Their relationship wasn’t perfect,yet it was realistic. To Kate, it felt like she was helping Alex, to him thought, it felt like submitting to failure. Alex and Kate came from very different families and backgrounds,yet I adore how they eventually worked out a way to make up, and further understood each other. I have said it and i will say it again, i despise the miscommunication trope,not because of the trope itself, but because of how difficult it is to write it well. Angelica proved that this trope can be amazing with the write writing! It didn’t feel like the characters were naive , instead, I was able to be in their perspectives, and really think. Particular moments really brought out their personalities , making me feel even more immersed into the plot than ever!
Both families were also incredibly well written, the contrast between the two was evident. Kate’s family was welcoming and warm, Alex’s sacrificed everything for him. Kate’s family wanted her happy. Alex’s wanted whatever was best for the family.
Alex’s family might have seemed stern and stubborn yet I understood that deep down, they were just scared of losing Alex, scared of Alex not living his best life, scared that their life would go off the tracks. They were amazing parents and truly wanted whatever was best for their son. Arranging dates with a family friend’s daughter,keeping the restaurant running,helping Alex get into prestigious events. Them cutting him out was their way of trying to get him to go back to them, to follow their planned path of certainty. Yet, once they understood that Alex and Kate truly loved each other, and that Kate’s background and character was honestly an amazing match with Alex, they were genuinely happy for Alex! This change was the most heart warming!
I loved Kate’s moments with Liam and Gemma! Liam is that one perfect (in this case -sibling)we all go to when we need someone to talk to. His advice was wise and also added a spectator’s insight on his complicated journey and relationship.It was so nice to see them in this book! Gemma’s appearance was short, yet she also brought out Kate’s bubbly personality! Truly the best friend we all need!
I need more in David ,his love life and maybe Isla too! David left his parents’ fundings and had to find a few jobs to support his love ,which his parents didn’t approve of. Yet, he was happy. He played a key role in Alex’s pursuit of finding self and his growing relationship with Kate, and I need so much more of him!
Isla was also an amazing roommate to Kate, simple,organised girl, and listened to Kate’s rambling of chemistry and Alex. She supported Kate’s change of major and helped Kate understand Alex’s perspective.
There is so much more I want to talk about this amazing book! Each teacher, Jennifer (read the book to know her),each kid and each cute and spicy moment in this book was amazing! The story and characters are complex yet eye-opening and easy to read. Every bit was amazing! I savoured every page!

She was that cheerleading Alex needed in his life, and he was that confirmation she needed. I loved seeing how Kate went from struggling nursing student,to that joyful artist.I love how Angelica also used her art to show her relationship and feelings towards Alex. Sometimes,your actions truly speak louder than words!
Their relationship wasn’t perfect,yet it was realistic. To Kate, it felt like she was helping Alex, to him thought, it felt like submitting to failure. Alex and Kate came from very different families and backgrounds,yet I adore how they eventually worked out a way to make up, and further understood each other. I have said it and i will say it again, i despise the miscommunication trope,not because of the trope itself, but because of how difficult it is to write it well. Angelica proved that this trope can be amazing with the write writing! It didn’t feel like the characters were naive , instead, I was able to be in their perspectives, and really think. Particular moments really brought out their personalities , making me feel even more immersed into the plot than ever!
Both families were also incredibly well written, the contrast between the two was evident. Kate’s family was welcoming and warm, Alex’s sacrificed everything for him. Kate’s family wanted her happy. Alex’s wanted whatever was best for the family.
Alex’s family might have seemed stern and stubborn yet I understood that deep down, they were just scared of losing Alex, scared of Alex not living his best life, scared that their life would go off the tracks. They were amazing parents and truly wanted whatever was best for their son. Arranging dates with a family friend’s daughter,keeping the restaurant running,helping Alex get into prestigious events. Them cutting him out was their way of trying to get him to go back to them, to follow their planned path of certainty. Yet, once they understood that Alex and Kate truly loved each other, and that Kate’s background and character was honestly an amazing match with Alex, they were genuinely happy for Alex! This change was the most heart warming!
I loved Kate’s moments with Liam and Gemma! Liam is that one perfect (in this case -sibling)we all go to when we need someone to talk to. His advice was wise and also added a spectator’s insight on his complicated journey and relationship.It was so nice to see them in this book! Gemma’s appearance was short, yet she also brought out Kate’s bubbly personality! Truly the best friend we all need!
I need more in David ,his love life and maybe Isla too! David left his parents’ fundings and had to find a few jobs to support his love ,which his parents didn’t approve of. Yet, he was happy. He played a key role in Alex’s pursuit of finding self and his growing relationship with Kate, and I need so much more of him!
Isla was also an amazing roommate to Kate, simple,organised girl, and listened to Kate’s rambling of chemistry and Alex. She supported Kate’s change of major and helped Kate understand Alex’s perspective.
There is so much more I want to talk about this amazing book! Each teacher, Jennifer (read the book to know her),each kid and each cute and spicy moment in this book was amazing! The story and characters are complex yet eye-opening and easy to read. Every bit was amazing! I savoured every page!

unfortunately, starting to read this ARC took me way too long, but once i started it, i kept going! never did i think i would connect more with the mmc, but the things alex struggles with are mirrored in my own life. overall, a sweet romance!!!

ARC Read - 3.5 🌟 The plot and storyline of this book made it a quick, fun read. I enjoyed the family dynamic, even though I do think it took away from Alex and Kate’s relationship at times. Sometimes I felt like they were just a strange connection. But the message of following your heart and desires, and finding your person were so sweet and uplifting.

After having the pleasure of reading Uncharted Waters last year I was really excited to read Angelica’s next novel in the Waverly Cove series, Changing Course.
Changing Course is a standalone prequel to Uncharted Waters and follows Kate (nursing student) and Alex (pharmacy student). When Kate starts failing chemistry, she turns to Alex for tutoring and soon realises nursing might not be her true calling after all. Alex is carrying the weight of his parent’s expectations and securing a prestigious placement on his shoulders. As their connection deepens and they both face difficult choices about their futures, they must decide which paths they’re brave enough to take.
This is a wonderful story that captures love, cultural and family expectations, having the courage to carve out your own path, following your dreams, stepping outside your comfort zone and working hard to build the future you want.
Kate is a dreamer, but she’s scared to follow her heart when her life has been mapped out for her. Watching her be brave, take charge of her life, and back herself to succeed was such a joy. She shows so much strength in trusting her own abilities, going against her family’s wishes, and flourishing in something she was born to do
It was lovely to see her family again and to watch them support her dreams, and Alex. They have such a wonderful dynamic, and I loved how they gave Alex the love, warmth, and encouragement he’s never had.
Alex is much more methodical, he loves a spreadsheet to support any decision he makes. He’s facing challenges and pressures from his parents that come from a place of love but they don’t align with the future he now sees for himself. I could tell how much I cared for him, as it was difficult to watch him burn himself out mentally, emotionally, financially and physically.
Alex is a brilliant partner for Kate, they balance each other out so well. Kate brings so much love, life and passion, it was lovely to watch him come out of his shell.
This was another wonderful book by Angelica. I’m really looking forward to reading whatever she writes next (I’m very hopeful it’s another novel set in Waverly Cove!)

What a refreshing and cozy read! This is the second book I've read from Angelica's Waverly Cove series, and I have to say this is my favourite. The characters were delightfully adorable, but also raw and real in so many ways. There were so many parallels between Kate and Alex's families and their dynamics, and Angelica lays them out beautifully- the controversies but also the simililarities. Nothing felt forced or fake with them, their relation-ship struggles with their family dynamics appearing real and I'm sure relatable to many couples. On top of her beautiful writing style, Angelica gets you wrapped up into the college world of these two characters very quickly, and has you rooting for their relationship to work out every step of the way.
I absolutely loved the final chapter and epilogue, seeing how each of the characters grew (and boy, did they both grow!) - separate and together.
I also loved the little references to her previous book and how they overlapped occasionally. You really gain insight into each and every character Angelica has created in this world.
If you're looking for a heart-warming romance (with several spicy scenes!), you'll want to grab Angelica's next book!

If a narrative can be labelled “magnum opus” I’d place this book under it. I was shot several times in the chest reading the clever, emotional and brutal rhythm of words.
Angelica, you are an unbelievable writer and you took on this plot with so much wit. I loved the brave depths you dove into for every single major character. Cause it’s not just the heroine and hero. We had their parents and supporting cast who contributed to the emotional punch of the story.
First I was so down for Katie, almost bleeding for her because I could relate to her so much, but then Alex came along and what he went through drained me. He was bearing so much and he was imprisoned in too much moral and familial commitments.
I loved the astounding portrayal of a strict Asian family and their reactions to a white girl coming into their world. It was a fight and struggle worth rooting for and it was written with exceptional finesse 💜

This was a nice and easy read. It starts out more lighthearted and gets more emotional throughout. I definitely cried towards the end. But it was written so well that it completely pulled you in and made you feel for the characters. I felt almost like they were people I knew and it made me more invested.
This is a story of learning how to put yourself first and fight the pressures around you to be what someone else wants you to be. The FMC is struggling with expectations for her career and the MMC is struggling with expectations when it comes to his relationships. They both have to learn how to lean on each other and others who want the best for them instead of what someone thinks should be their path.

This lovely, refreshing read completely surprised me in the best way. As a pharmacist, I felt such a personal connection that it instantly took me back to my student days. Kate and Alex are adorable, yet so raw and real. Nothing about their relationship feels forced. Super super cute. I love the idea that not everyone has things figured out when they go to college and I love the family dynamic and how the author is able to showcase the differences in family structure and expectations. While it sort of seems unreal, I know that some families are more than happy with change and super supportive which is great to see. The romantic portion of the book was super sweet and I loved how they were able to take their time and be comfortable without anyone making things weird for each other. The ending is also a 10/10, very adorable!

Angelica did a great job of creating characters you wanted to root for. I expected an HEA and wasn't disappointed in how the story developed. Kate and Alex's story was about finding yourself, handling expectations others have for you vs those you set for yourself and the importance of listening to your heart. Will definitely be checking out Uncharted Waters next.
