She wanted a fresh start. She got an alien War-Commander instead.
Harper is drowning. Broke, exhausted, and dragging her irresponsible cousin through life, she sees the Mate Program as her only escape. A signing bonus and a fresh start, what could go wrong?
Then her cousin blows the money and crashes their flyer. Harper thinks they're done for… until seven feet of patient, protective, irritatingly handsome alien warrior pulls her from the wreckage. Now she's in his quarters. Under his rules. Going nowhere.
Until the Mate Program decides they don't want her, and they're going to send her home. Unless the warrior who saved her gets his way…
He didn't become a War-Commander by giving up. She doesn't stand a chance.
When War-Commander Kirr M'Aab pulls the fierce little human female from a crashed flyer, he knows she was always meant to be his. He'll burn down the program, the station, and anyone who tries to take her from him.
She's prickly, defensive, but also the most beautiful thing he's ever seen. The more she pushes him away, the more he wants her.
When her past threatens to destroy everything, he will have to prove that his protection—and his heart—are hers for keeps.
Mina Carter is a New York Times & USA Today bestselling author of romance in many genres. She lives in the UK with her husband, daughter, a puppy who pays no attention to her whatsoever, and a bossy cat.
No. Just no. There are some topics I think authors need to be careful about when using in their writing, and for me, the author failed spectacularly in this book. I found the way drinking and driving was used in this story to be extremely distasteful and trite. FMC's thoughts about the events leading up to and after the multi-fatality accident were entirely self-serving with zero thought or care given to the many people supposedly killed as a result. She blames herself only because her cousin had been very badly injured.
Ultimately, this story really didn't work for me as I felt everything was much more tell than show with the story being forced to progress rather than flowing naturally through actions and events. I found FMC's over the top abilities likewise to be a bit too much bordering on Mary Sue level cringe.
I want to mention that generally speaking I do like this author's writing and the Lathar universe in general. It's a shame that this book doesn't hold up to what I would normally expect.
The Lathar are back, breaking and mending hearts in Outer Space.
Harper is tired. Tired of being broke, tired of her job, tired of always being the organiser, tired of reining in her impulsive cousin. When they see the sign for the Mate Programme, she finally thinks she has found a way out. Delilah though, she messes it up before they even make it enrolment and they crash. Then a huge Latharian warrior arrives and gets them out of the wreckage.
She wakes up on the space station and finds herself in another great, Delilah shaped mess. Now she's under the guardianship of Kirr, her rescuer and one of the most celebrated war commanders the Lathar have. Where she goes, he goes. It's not really a hardship having a 7ft tall, alien hunk at her beck and call but Harper has it in her head that she's toxic and it's going to take everything Kirr has to change that opinion of herself.
Kirr is grumpy, growly and over protective to the max. He knows that Harper is his, the mate programme can get lost as far as he's concerned. As they spend more time together, he realises just how much weight has been on Harper's shoulders and he wants to show her that she's no longer alone, she's not some curse to be borne. She is his light, his beloved and no-one will be taking her anywhere!
Harper is one big mass of anxiety, unresolved grief, and overworked cousin! Delilah would have sent me over the edge long ago! Kirr is the right kind of protective/possessive - although unknowingly lo-jacking her was a bit much. Another fab read and I'm waiting to see how Delilah manages to snag her own warrior.
Harper has hit rock bottom. She screwed up and let her cousin spend all the advance money the Latharian Mate Program gave them. And now she’s watching her cousin die from crashing a rented flyer.
Then two Lathars appear and get them out of the wrecked flyer and loaded into a shuttle heading to the orbital station. What’s going on? But all Harper can really concentrate on is Delilah going to live?
The blows keep coming. Delilah is in a coma. She and Delilah didn’t show up on time for the Latharian Mate Program so they were deleted from the program, and the Mate Program want to send them back to Earth, and they want the advance repaid. While Harper is grappling with this, Kirr takes over. Kirr is War-Commander and he informs the Mate Program that Harper is staying in his quarters, and he is taking responsibility for her. And Harper starts paying attention.
You will love their love story. Every woman should have a Kirr in their life!
I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
When War CDR Kirr M’Aab and his Healer Kallet are sent to Earth to assist with an accident he didn’t expect to find his mate. Delilah is in critical condition and Harper see this ae being her fault. The guilt this woman carries just breaks my heart. She believes that she doesn’t deserve to be happy. Kirr takes things slow with Harper not to spook her. When the LMP wants to deport her Kirr isn’t about to let that happen. He fights for her and even makes it clear that she and her cousin are protected under the M’Aab clan. I love this alien. That is so sweet. Harper needs to learn to let someone else carry the load. Once Kirr and Harper finally embrace their chemistry it is hot and oh so good. And was it odd that there was a “virus” in the system onboard the Station. Something or someone had to have done it. Delilah’s healing is a slow process. I have to say the Latharian’s DNA is helping them find a mate faster than the mating program. I am so looking forward to the next book, Alien Healer’s Mate with Kallet. I knew there was something about him and Delilah.
This is book six in the Latharian Mate Program series by Mina Carter. I have really been loving this series and was happy to be offered the book by the author. In this book, the main female character seems to have a form of PTSD from an automobile accident that killed her parents when she was a child. She seems like she carries the weight of the world on her shoulders and decides to try for a new life by joining the Latharian Mate Program. She and her cousin sign up and unfortunately the cousin takes the signing bonus to have a last hurrah instead of going to wait for the pick up ship. After a night out her cousin crashes their vehicle. This triggers an alarm on the Latharian ship, which causes our main male character, the War Commander, to fly down to help the injured women. When he finds them he realizes immediately that she is his mate and rushes her and her cousin up to the Latharian base. This is a more serious storyline because of her PTSD, but he seems to have a handle on giving her the stability and space that she needs to realize that they have a connection and that he’s really going to be there to support her. I really enjoyed this book. I liked their dynamic and how solid he was for her. I would recommend this book. All opinions are my own.
Loved this story! I felt like we were going back to OG Latharian tales, he knows at first sight. She just feels safe with him. The Devon station has been in several books and continues to be a character and “world” unto itself, taking us into space and a warrior’s life. Harper’s introduction breaks your heart at the trials she has been through and she feels guilt so acutely even if she shouldn’t. Kirr is a seasoned warrior having risen through the ranks to War Commander like four star general, protecting and taking responsibility for Harper is second nature. They may not have a baddie to fight but there is a lot of policy and protocol to swim through. This slow burn, but sexy when they get to it, heartfelt tale was a joy to read!
Harper carries the world on her shoulders. Her guilt drives every decision. But when her cousin puts them in an untenable position will Harper finally break? Alien War Commander's Mate is the latest in the Latharian Mate Program series by Mina Carter. I enjoyed getting to know Kirr. He is decisive and kind, at least to thise he cares about. And Harper is becoming someone he cares for deeply. But can he break through her walls? I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him show Harper that he will always be there. I loved that he saw past her prickly behavior to the core of her. I loved that he supported her even as she tried to push him away. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and am looking forward to where Ms. Carter will take us next.
This was another great addition to the series, and while it starts off with heartbreaking backstory for Harper, it ends with a fab HEA. Harper carries so much guilt and looks like she's carrying the world on her shoulders. When she ends up in another car accident and Kirr shows up to help out, she finds herself on a path to true healing. Kirr was fab and really took on protecting and caring for Harper, right from the get-go. His support really let her move forward in her life. That doesn't mean there wasn't drama to deal with, but there's no baddie to get in their way. This is a slow burn romance, which makes sense for Harper's background, but when the spice hits, it's hot ;P I really enjoyed seeing these two work their way to a wonderful HEA. Good fun!
This is the same story that almost all of these Latharian book have been prior. There is an extreme lack of development. There's no depth. There character and the story are all surface level. And this heroine is HORRIBLE. Her and her cousin are terrible. The cousin is a self centered bimbo dingbat. The heroine is at fault and enabling without a back bone. But what do you know? As soon as the H is being nice to her she decides to be mean and nasty to him. And she feels "trapped". What did she think would happen signing up for the mate program? I have no desire to read anymore of this A's work. The magic was lost soooo many books back. These should be in KU at best. The price for these underdeveloped books is like legal robbery. No thanks.
For most of her life, Harper had struggled with her self-esteem, feeling inadequate, a failure, unable to help those dearests to her, and every moment seemed to reinforce that view she had of herself. I was surprised that despite being very competent, Harper didn't value herself as a person. I really liked the protective way Kirr constantly supported Harper. I was very interested in Harper's role in Kirr's life, how Harper showed what she could do with her skills, gaining recognition, and the turn in Delilah's situation. An interesting, entertaining story with surprises. Eager for Delilah's story.
This book had so many emotions going on. You couldn't help feeling bad for Harper. She had so many tragedies and traumas in her life and shoulders so many burdens. When she is in an accident with her cousin, she almost looses the fresh start she was so desperate for. Kirr knows right away that she is his. He takes responsibility for her and keeps her safe. He takes such good care of her.
Left with a few questions - what was going on in her cousin's head while she was in a medical induced coma. How will she come out changed. Also, was the cascade failure going on on the space station coincidental or are they under attack?
Harper ends up in space after her cousin crashes the flyer she was driving. Kirr goes down to Earth to save the women in the accident and finds them and saves them. She has to be supervised on the station and he volunteers. They both find they are attracted to each other. As they work through all the twists and turns and growth they discover more about each other. I loved this adventure in this wonderful series and look forward to the next book after the cliff hanger for the next couple. This is such a real world with fabulous characters!
I’m so glad to see this series continue! I just love the Latharians! Especially Kirr! His multicolored orange hair would be amazing in real life as well as his hunky 7 foot muscled frame.! Whoohoo! Harper is one very lucky girl! The story was very good like all of Mina’s books but sadly end all too soon for me. They end appropriately but once I get to reading them it quickly becomes “BINGE TIME!” and before I know it I’m hitting the end of the book, sigh. Oh well, looking forward to the next book with Healer Kellat and Delilah.
This book was very disappointing. The heroine was a spineless, pathetic whiny stupid bitch and the cousin is a self centred bimbo dingbat. (I stole this perfect description from BAK). The cousin drove a hover car while drunk and the heroine jumped in the passenger seat rather than stopping her and they proceeded to crash. Multiple people were killed but at no point did the heroine express any remorse for them because everything was about her. It makes absolutely no sense why a war commander would want her.
I love being back to the Latharian Mate Program series and book 6 did not disappoint. Kirr and Harper first meeting was not optimal, but it starts off their unexpected pairing. Harper’s present situation brings her into the mate program, but when an accident puts her in a difficult situation, Kirr enters her life and he knew instantly that she was his. Will they be able to be together with all the turmoil surrounding her? One click to find out in this enjoyable addition to the series that doesn’t disappoint. I love watching these strong male fall fast for their mate and find forever.
Share his strength What an amazing story! The author took the Lathar mate program and ran with it in this newest addition to the series. The story starts with a feeling of change in the air and it just doesn’t stop. Our female lead takes the world on her shoulders, at every major catastrophe in her life she finds herself at fault. Good thing she goes from her latest tragedy to the best thing that ever happened to her. These two have a lot to work through, but as the walls come down they manage to find their own perfect HEA. The author kept it real with this one showing that life isn’t always pretty, but it can be exactly what you need. I love the way these two come together and the hint of more to come. My only wish is that the Duke finds himself in a bit of a pickle when his match comes along to help him find the empathy he obviously lacks.
It starts of with a crash. Body's broken and bleeding. Harper trying to not panic but not getting there. Trying to get out of her harness to help her cousin. Two aliens rip off the door and gets her out of the harness and the other cares for her cousin. A lot of blood and so very still. It is a little crazy for a while. Kirr takes care of Harper. The first time he saw her he knew she was his. I loved the story. It was awesome.
I think this is the best series Mina Carter has ever written! This story storms out of the gate with nonstop action and of course hot romance. I especially love the Latharian males…strong, alpha and delicious! I appreciate when the heroine is smart and capable. The plot is solid and fits quite well into the series. I am looking forward to Delilah’s story and hoping I do not have to wait long. Download this one readers. It’s worth every penny!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Another fantastic addition to the series. Ms Carter never disappoints with her stories. I enjoyed reading about Harper. I don't like how she blames herself for everything that goes wrong. I get why. I love how Kirr knew right away that Harper was his and sets about to entice her. i like how he helps instead of riding over her. He gives her space when needed and encourages her when needed. I read an arc of this book and this is my review.
Be still my heart! Kirr and Harper are magnetic from the moment they meet. Harper has been through more than anyone's share of traumatic experiences and watching Kirr help her work through what triggers a flashback is unforgettable. Being a War Commander, Kirr knows about overwhelming pressure and responsibility for many lives. Their story has romance, suspense, steam and some panic to keep it edgy. Loved this.
I have loved every book that Mina has written and this had me hooked from the very first page. The Latharian's are formidable and our war commander is all that personified and more. The story itself is captivating and relatable. A story of fear, love and soul searching. A story with a happy ending that leaves you wanting more.
This is defiantly a must read story. Amazing as always Mina!
This series keeps getting better. Harper has not lived an easy life and has decided to join the Mates Program to better it. Kirr gets a message human females are in danger. There are more issues for them to deal with but the draw between them is strong. We get a look at the next book and I can't wait. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I enjoyed this book very much. It was full of emotions and danger. Harper's story was raw, I cried. I could feel what she was going through. The words were a lifeline keeping me so focused, that my imagination soared. Can't wait to read Kellat and Delilah's story. This series has been an amazing one. Definitely a must read.
This author and her books are a must buy for me. Always well written with evolving characters from page to page. Heartfelt stories with real life struggles infused in this fictional world. Always well worth my time and $$ I received an ARC from this author, but am so happy to be able to leave this review.
I don't know how Mina Carter does it. Every story a gift of imagination blended together with technical knowledge and human perception! She just gets better with every story I devour set in the Universe of the Lather. Her storylines never repeat or get boring or repetitive. Yes I recommend this book and gave it 5 stars.
I am NEVER disappointed in this series. They simply cannot come fast enough! What a great ride this one is! Love is complicated and it’s always fun to see how ten characters work through to fit the puzzle perfectly. Great read!
Bravo! Another triumph of Latharian-Human courtship. Survivor guilt is a hell of a real thing and had to dissuade a victim of it from her/his mental coping mechanisms. Looking forward to the next saga.
