I needed this

I needed a fantasy that really sucked me in from the beginning and this definitely did that for me. If you haven’t seen this book around yet definitely give it a go. I don’t regret reading it!

Before I go anywhere further in my review, I have to warn about the major TWs in this book. SA, Rape, gore, torture. Its on the extreme side so be mindful be cautious.

Now, onto the book itself. I came across this book because the author had posted in a group I'm in. His description of it being a grimdark fantasy novel caught my attention. Im going to be real honest and say I didnt expect anything. I didn't believe the book would amount to much but I try and give every author a chance. Im so ashamed at how low I thought this book was going to be. It surpassed all expectations.

The story isnt happy. Its truly dark and dangerous and hopeless in the way only a true dark fantasy can be. Its well thought out and executed. There were some parts I had to pause and walk away from because they were intense. Every character went through it or is still going through it. Their voices and pov, while not specifically separated, are unique enough to be able to tell whose speaking. It wasnt difficult for me to discern which character was talking and whose eyes I was reading through.

Do not come into this book expecting happiness or even resolution. It is pain. Dont expect feel good characters. No they are flawed and fucked up. Not one character can I say is genuinely innocent or free of corruption. Each character is a pawn in the game of survival. Each character does shit that makes me question my own sanity and morality.

I'm wanting to avoid spoilers at all cost. Everyone needs to go into this blind but aware of the grittiness of the story. Its intense, savage, and gross in places. I loved every second of reading this.

One last thing I will mention is the short chapters and super short paragraphs. It made the pacing and the story fly by! Its so easy to read and find places to break up the darker parts. Im so excited to see what comes next for Marek and the others. I think this has become one of my favorite of the darker fantasy books, and I look forward to this authors next book.

New author, RD PAGE, has written a great fantasy book.. almost a coming of age type story for the main character, Marek. In this story he finds himself and finds his strength not just through conquering trials but understanding loss. He is followed in journey by a few people: Lysa, Casper, Elise, Luna, and along the way through training has met some fellow squires Ressa & Brannic. The kingdom is at risk and these characters will fight not only for themselves but for the whole kingdom.

It also makes you ask the questions about the demons inside each of us… our thoughts, feelings, actions.. how do we warp our own lives with justifications and how do we conquer our own… it does leave a cliffhanger. So I’m excited to read future books.

The world building is fantastic, as is the magic system and the “cost” of such… it’s a great fantasy book that definitely has the feeling of past fantasy authors in an honored way. The character development and arcs are also very well written. It’s a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat with a lot of action. One thing after another that will make you question things as you’re reading. It keeps the mind busy and will transport you to the kingdom of Lionreach and suck you in where you don’t want to put the book down.

100% a fun read. If you love high fantasy, I think you’ll enjoy it. It has all the best elements! If this is RD PAGE’s first debut novel, I’m excited to see how he grows from here!

*Thank you, Mr Page for the opportunity to be an arc reader for this novel. Bravo at a fantastic story!*

Unfettered, imaginative, unrelenting: Don't be put off by the disclaimer - IT'S BRILLIANT!

Initially, I detested the bandit Marek, but as the story unfolds, I became invested in his experiential beliefs and found myself rooting for this outcast/underdog.

Overcoming the horrific challenges that come his way, in fraught situations where the odds are stacked against him, his fighting spirit and determination are admirable.

Princes of the Void: Prince of Wisdom by R. D Page is well-written, action-packed, tense, and gripping from the outset.

A fast-paced, high stakes drama with a well chosen description that evokes effective emotion, tension, and empathy.

This book has a richly developed storyline. The first in a series is filled with immersive world-building and cloaked in the atmosphere.

A tidal wave that swept me through its pages in a day and a half. Unmissable and highly recommended for fans of fantasy and dark fantasy alike. Can not wait for the next chapter.

This book was awesome. One character More messed up than the other. when you think the story for the main characters could not get worse. You are wrong.

This book has everything for the readers who love Demons, dark elements and are not afraid of triggerwarnings. This book has a few.

I can't wait for book 2

An Atmospheric Beginning!

The writing makes the world easy to imagine—descriptive and immersive without being overly detailed. The story has a dark, intriguing atmosphere, and the characters are interesting enough to make you want to learn more about them. It feels like a strong start to the series and left me wanting more. I greatly enjoyed this book and HIGHLY recommend it!

A wonderfully dark and bloody journey through a world that snuffs out every flickering flame of hope as soon as it has served its purpose in guiding the reluctant hero Marek on his lifechanging adventure across these pages.

Positives/Likes:

-Consistent grim tone throughout

-The world felt real and I definitely felt I could envision it and the characters within

-Good pacing, I didn't find myself wishing anything would hurry up, or becoming bored due to anything feeling slow, confusing or dry

-The story really sucked me in, I made the mistake of beginning reading this before bed as it usually takes a few chapters for me to get interested in a book but this one had me from the first page.

-The lore drops felt appropriately placed and managed to not be overwhelming

-This world recognises that there is some darkness in the lives of even the best people, and it is up to them how they choose to embrace it or become better for it.

Negatives/Dislikes:

-I now have to wait to find out what happens next

-I was not a fan of the time jump but I have to admit that if it were filled out or written any other way the story would have probably lost its momentum

-I wanted to know more about the main character's past and mother figure

-I also wanted to learn more about the elves, I found them and their magic very intriguing

Other Comments:

-I know the level of cruelty in this story isn't everyone's cup of tea but I felt that every moment of violence seems to serve as a catalyst or stepping stone for the next part of the story.

-It is very important that anyone with triggers reads the warnings at the beginning

I picked this up on Kindle Unlimited after reading the description, and it ended up being a lot darker and more intense than I expected in a good way.

What starts off feeling like a gritty bandit-abduction story quickly spirals into something much bigger and more supernatural. Marek isn’t your typical hero. He’s rough around the edges, morally gray, and very much shaped by a brutal world. Watching him go from hardened bandit to reluctant protector of Baroness Elise was one of my favorite parts of the book. Their dynamic adds some emotional weight to all the chaos, especially once you realize Elise isn’t just a political pawn, she’s carrying something truly terrifying inside her.

By the final stretch, things get pretty brutal and emotional. Marek’s transformation into a demon-touched warrior bent on vengeance hit hard. It’s tragic and powerful, and it makes you understand exactly why he becomes who he does. Definitely not a light or fluffy read, but if you like grimdark fantasy with morally complex characters, revenge arcs, and a touch of horror, this one delivers.

Overall, a solid Kindle Unlimited find with action, darkness, and just enough heart to keep you invested. I’d definitely continue the series to see where Marek’s path leads next.

I went into this expecting a dark fantasy adventure, but I got something much deeper. The dynamic between Marek and Elise evolves naturally, balancing tension, trust, and survival. The Void Princes and their mortal allies are genuinely unsettling, and the political conspiracies add real weight to the plot. I appreciated how the story explores corruption both magical and human without losing momentum. Marek’s descent into vengeance after devastating losses was heartbreaking and powerful. The prose is immersive, the action scenes are sharp, and the emotional payoff is strong. If you enjoy grim fantasy with demons, intrigue, and flawed heroes, this is absolutely worth reading.

Great read!

Marek is an unlikely hero. His journey starts with him not such a good guy. He wins you over with his cunning and snide humor. Him and his group of friends fight for the future of the world! The potential for everything to be destroyed is close at hand! Marek becomes more than he ever knew he could be in this fight of good and evil!
I really enjoyed this book! It has evil, magic, and comraderie! What more could you ask!

4.5 ⭐️
A wonderfully dark read full of intriguing plot lines, fast paced action and well developed characters. At no point in this book will you be able to predict what happens next, the story tears you from one tragedy to another following characters who are more than a little morally questionable. The action scenes are very well written, but graphic so definitely check out the content warnings first!

I was fortunate to get this book from the author to read and I was definitely intrigued. I was invested in the characters right away. This book had me wanting to keep reading to know what was going to happen. It has violence, a little romance, adventure, magic, and so much more. The way my jaw would drop at certain points because I was just shocked. There are no words to describe what the author did to me at the end there. How dare you. I’ll be impatiently waiting for book 2.
