Grace Abrahams helps ghosts – particularly those who were murdered. She meets the ghosts at storage locker auctions.
In this story Grace meets the handsome Archie Goodwin. Archie was murdered a few hours after getting married to Jessie. Archie knows for certain that he was murdered, but he doesn’t know who would hate him enough to kill him.
As Grace looks further into the mystery she soon finds more than one suspect. She also meets another ghost, a young girl who is wearing Jessie’s wedding dress. Who is this ghost? And what has she got to do with Archie’s death?
I'm an avid fan of mystery stories. I started reading Agatha Christie novels at an early age. My favourite fiction detective is Poirot, I love his fussy ways and his attention to small details. I love the TV series, 'Murder She Wrote' and have watched every episode. I like working out who the killer is, and what the clues are.
I live near Leeds, Yorkshire, which is in the north of England. My two daughters live with me and they are understanding about my passion for mystery shows! I've now discovered 'Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries'.
I've been wanting to write my own mystery stories for years - and now I finally have.
This story has a fun premise and characters with potential. However, it reads like a first draft. I suggest using a proofreader - or getting a better one. This book is so filled with comma splices (there are one or two in every other sentence!) it distracted me to the point that I found it difficult to get any enjoyment from the story. My high school English teacher would drop students' grades down for every comma splice she found in their writing. This is basic punctuation. If one professes to be a writer, one should at least know the basics. Overall, the characters could have used more fleshing out. I found Lily and Frankie to be fun. There's a lot of potential here.
I really liked this installment! It had more mystery and plot twists than I expected, making it both fun and truly intriguing to read. The story kept me entertained from start to finish.
Once again, Grace steps in to help solve a murder—this time, it’s the case of an incredibly handsome groom (honestly, I hope I find a husband like him one day!). Archie, the groom, is funny, well-mannered, charming, and a true gentleman who clearly adores his wife. I found myself completely invested in discovering who killed him and why. There were moments when I gasped and thought, “Please, let this not be true!” Not many cozy mysteries manage to surprise me like that.
Like the author I like to imagine the stories behind the items found in storage lockers. this was a fun read with a great ending. I was happily surprised to find a new author to enjoy and look forward to reading more of the series.

Had a few issues. Misspelled character name, even a wrong character at one point. But one thing really bugged me. She made a big deal about the ghost being tied to an item... He had to be near it and worried she wouldn't leave it "somewhere unsavoury"... So she asks him where he disappears to and he talks about a beach in Cornwall. But how when he is bound to the necklace and can't go anywhere without it?? Contradictions like that really mess up this sort of story, where you have to accept the writers world. Hard to do that when writer breaks things! 2.5 stars.
This forth book in the series was the best one yet. I thought that I had it figured out from the beginning but that was not the case. The ending is a complete surprise. I think you will enjoy this story.
As ghost stories go, this isn't in the least bit scary, and is in fact quite amusing. It's not every day a set of ghosts seek you out asking for help albeit you wish you couldn't actually see them. One wouldn't have thought there would be much mirth surrounding a murder after a wedding and ghosts that appear out of nowhere all of a sudden, but this author manages to combine a cosy mystery containing ghosts with humour running through a yarn that is, I have to say, very entertaining.
It's the sort of story that doesn't tax the brain too much, and I am pleased to admit that I wouldn't have guessed the culprit in a million years. Our main character Grace can see ghosts and she frequents storage lockers for bargains because mostly that is where she will encounter them, spiritually attached to old furniture and other discarded possessions. The 'fun' begins when she is contacted by Archie who had only been married a short while before he is inexplicably murdered and Grace, along with a couple of helper ghosts, has her work cut out trying to find out who would want him dead, who would gain from his death, and even how they committed the crime.
Nothing is what it seems. Even the sour-faced Ms Berry (nicknamed Raspberry behind her back) who works at the hotel where the couple had booked the honeymoon suite has something to hide. With twists aplenty and amusing throughout, I would recommend this novel as a fun read.
Soft, but entertaining, easy-to-read mystery involving ghosts who want Maeve to find their murderer. She’s been able to see and speak with ghosts since a car accident, and apparently not one other living person is aware of this. So while attempting to solve their murders, she’s got to be careful when speaking to them out of fear her brother could have her locked up.
In this one, when winning a storage locker auction, she’s approached by two ghosts wearing wedding clothes. Archie died on his wedding two years ago, although he can’t remember much. And it takes awhile to figure out who the young lady is wearing the wedding dress; definitely not the woman he married.
There isn’t a great deal of character building. We know very little about Maeve, at least from this book. The story is mostly centered on getting to know the likeable ghosts and their investigation while she’s also working with her brother in their shop selling stuff obtained through storage unit auctions.
The story is set somewhere in the United Kingdom and that comes with some words and phrases that are different than what Americans are used to hearing. Most are easy enough to figure out and it didn’t slow me down at all. I found the story, characters, situations and humor to be an enjoyable and a nice escape for a few hours.
Grace sees and talks to ghosts. She helps find out who may have murdered people in order to make them into a ghost. Grace has a resident ghost who is around nearly all the time. Pearl is an elderly woman who is connected to the shop where Grace and her brother, Frankie, sell items they have gotten from storage lockers.
At the most recent auction, Grace has purchased a locker for little or no money. It is filled with bargains which will sell well in the shop. And there is at least one ghost connected to some of the items. A gentleman ghost, Archie Goodwin, is in his wedding clothes and one of the purchased items is his suitcase. This story has another ghost, a young and beautiful girl named Lily.
Grace is open to connecting to ghosts and actually listening to what they say. So, the ghosts are anxious to speak to her.
This is a short read with a fun premise.
The characters, whether live or dead, are believable and easy to like. The plot is well done. This is the first book I have read by Ms Larkin and I plan to look for another of her stories.
Murder Vows by Gillian Larkin is another great Storage Ghost Murder Mystery. This time Grace Abrahams must help the charming and handsome (but still definitely ghostly) newlywed, Archie Goodwin, come to terms with his murder which occurred soon after the wedding vows were recited.
The story offers some choices as to who could have possibly killed the bridegroom including the bride, her father, and one of the bride’s scorned suitors. The reveal of who-done-it is great!
The series keeps getting better and better with each addition. Because of the ready availability and economical price for the different stories, I highly recommend starting at the beginning of the series with Jacob’s Coins so the reader can “live” the history with Grace. However, the author provides enough back story in each book that all, Murder Vows included, can be enjoyed on their own.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
I happened upon The Last Reading by this author. It was good so I got this one too. I give it 5 stars because Gillian has great characterization, a well thought-out /interesting plot, good-looking flow, and a good mystery/villain. Her ending/resolution makes sense but is not obvious. I will definitely be seeking out more of her books! If you enjoy Agatha Christie, add Gillian Larkin to your bookshelf!
Light hearted murder mystery that keeps you reading and entertained. Adorable characters that amusing and offsets. This is a great book to read when you feel like reading and having a few laughs.
This fit the bill just right. I really liked the storage wars concept. Will definitely look for other books in this series. Well written, but did have a few editing errors. 4.5 Stars.
A good book. A book based on love. Two people in love. Tragedy strikes on the wedding day. So sad. But what's worse, is when someone is jealous of that love and decides they should have it and are willing to kill to get it. Good book..
