All Charlene "Charley" Lemain wants in the world is to play softball well enough to get into UT and to hang with her bestie Kaylee. That’s why it sucks so hard when she tears her rotator cuff and has to spend most of her senior year not playing, not practicing, not doing much of anything but watching Kaylee cheer and flirt with her quarterback boyfriend. As with besties, Kaylee sets Charley up for homecoming. It’s a nice enough date until Brant confides in her that he’s glad Charley’s "like him." Like him? What the hell does that mean? Charley needs to figure out what’s going on in her body, in her life, and most importantly, in her heart.
3 stars I'm sorry to say this, but what the hell? The writing style was good and the story flowed well, no doubt about that, but are American teenagers really this weird? The way the characters thought, talked and behaved was like from a different planet. Usually I complain about high-school stories for different reasons, but this one takes the cake. For me, an European, it was fascinating in the sense if a car crash. Kinda hurt to look at and weirdly unrelatable. Oh and the texting physically hurt
Anne Key's Stealing Bases is a quick and short lesbian romance, glossing over a lot.
It's Charley's senior year and she's struggling with her life and her sexuality. Things are changing between her and her best friend, and she's dealing with her girlfriend.
There are definitely some crazy characters and Charley's just a confused teenager. As she tries to right her life, the author explores the differences between being rich versus poor in a great way.
Stealing Bases is a decent coming of age read, but I would have preferred more depth and a slower pace. But it's a good book for a young female who's looking for a lesbian romance.
whirlwind of finding out, falling fast, being outed and figuring yourself out …
honest adults saying life is always (and forever) about faking it until you make it, you just trust that those around you will love you even if you eff up
