The victim, known for his generosity in the animal welfare community, seems an unlikely target, making the suspicion cast upon one of Bree’s own neighbors all the more perplexing.

Driven by a connection to the victim’s love for animals and her own pursuit of truth, Bree begins a fact-finding mission. As an animal shelter volunteer, she sees a chance not only to solve the case but also to help a bloodhound named Tracker. If he can pick up overlooked clues, Bree hopes the police will train him as a K-9 detection dog and give him the forever home he deserves.

As Christmas Day approaches, Bree’s holiday plans compete with her investigation. Every question she asks edges her closer to a vicious killer who is definitely not feeling the holiday vibe.

Book 3 of the Sea Oats Beach cozy mystery is everything a cozy mystery should be. Bree volunteers at an animal shelter and is more comfortable with animals than people. She is slowly overcoming her self consciousness in the small town of Sea Oats and making friends despite her awkwardness. This one takes place over the Christmas holidays and the challenge with her dad to do 12 Christmas activities was inspiring. It’s an easy read and I would recommend it.

Author Karen Whalen calls this novel ‘a cozy mystery beach read,’ which is spot-on. Written in the First Person (from the vantage point of main character Bree Hart), it’s easy to read, even easier to follow, and it’s my favorite so far in The Sea Oats Beach Mystery Series – primarily because of the characters.

Not only the humans, but the animals as well.

In this novel, by page three, I’m fully involved in a heartfelt love affair with Tracker, an aging bloodhound living at the animal rescue Bree volunteers for. He’s been there longer than any other resident, and he’s accepted his fate with typical bloodhound dignity. But Bree makes it her mission to find him a home – preferably working with law enforcement – and she’s not going to take ‘no’ for an answer. Then, by the second chapter, I’m rooting for a relinquished pregnant cat Bree names ‘Mama’ when she agrees to foster her until her kittens are born. These two characters are skillfully woven throughout the plot, providing both drama and humor to the mystery, and they held my attention throughout the story. In fact, as good as the story is, I don’t think it would’ve been as good without them.

They also provided me with the common link I needed to help me understand Bree, one of the most unique main characters I’ve ever met on the pages of a book.

Bree’s struggle with Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), which makes her uncoordinated, vulnerable, and miserably convinced the entire world is watching every klutzy thing she does, can be difficult to relate to. It makes her seem self-absorbed, almost narcissistic, when she’s truly just the opposite. But her inability to turn down a helpless animal or a needy family member is a personality trait I totally get – and I want desperately for her to be successful. I love the way she tries to convince herself that she’s right to do everything she does as she goes about solving this mystery (even some things that are slightly illegal, which is fun since she has this scaredy-cat personality disorder), and puts herself in greater and greater peril.

Ms. Whalen’s beach descriptions are beautifully visual. She cleverly uses Christmas traditions on the island as part of the plot, as well as Bree’s bucket list of twelve Christmas ‘Things to Do’ that she hasn’t done since her mother died, while participating in a friendly Christmas race with her father, who’s marking off his own bucket list. Bree’s close friends and neighbors also become involved in this endeavor as they attempt to build her fragile ego and bring her into the warm embrace of their communal spirit.

Settling back and reading THE FATAL FLOTILLA AT SEA OATS BEACH, by Karen C. Whalen, is pure enjoyment. I highly recommend you do that as soon as possible.

I’m giving THE FATAL FLOTILLA AT SEA OATS BEACH five stars.

The Fatal Flotilla at Sea Oats Beach is the latest installment in Karen Whalen’s Sea Oats Beach cozy mystery series. The book is filled with some of the same quirky characters introduced in the previous books, elevating it from a simple whodunit to a whirlwind of charm and humor.

Meet our lovable protagonist, Breanna “Bree” Hart—an endearing, accident-prone, 26-year-old animal shelter volunteer with a flair for amateur sleuthing. As she grapples with Social Anxiety Disorder, Bree must navigate not only the mystery of her surroundings but also her tangled web of emotions. Enter Roscoe Blue, the quintessential surfer dude. While he’s hoping their close friendship might evolve into something more romantic, Bree seems blissfully oblivious, more smitten with the standoffish police officer Ty Whitaker—an embodiment of mystery himself, wrapped in reserved charm.

Adding to the ensemble are Bree's steadfast companions: animal control officer Serenity and the bait shop owner Emma, who is usually physically absent but definitely present in spirit as she spends the holidays with her family.

This year, Bree’s Chicago-based father has challenged her to a festive duel to see who can be the first to celebrate Christmas in 12 different ways. Since her mother’s passing two decades ago, Bree’s family has avoided the holiday, making this challenge a chance for Bree to reclaim the spirit of the season.

Thus, Bree finds herself aboard the Sea Oats Beach Animal Shelter entry in the Christmas Flotilla. This will count as one of the challenge requisites. As their fishing boat drifts with the holiday parade, things take a sinister turn when Pierce, Serenity’s boyfriend and a vet tech, spots a wayward cabin cruiser. When Bree and Pierce investigate, they stumble upon a shocking scene—a dead body, which sinks their holiday spirit faster than a well-placed anchor.

Despite both Ty and Serenity’s admonitions, Bree dives into trying to find the murderer. With her friend and neighbor Natalie, who seems to know everyone in Sea Oats Beach and everything about them, she unwinds a tangled thread of possible suspects: adult children, a recent ex-girlfriend, a longtime friend, or maybe even someone whose name she has yet to discover. Juggling her animal shelter responsibilities with the activities needed to win her dad’s challenge—including ice skating, gift shopping, and decorating—all while fostering a pregnant cat—Bree is determined to solve the mystery before anyone else gets killed.

The Fatal Flotillais an adventurous, laugh-out-loud read that beautifully weaves together Bree's heartwarming journey of self-discovery, friendship, and perhaps a touch of romance—all while she navigates the stormy waters of murder.

The Fatal Flotilla
The setting for this cozy mystery is along the Intracoastal Waterway in North Carolina. This 3000-mile waterway hugs the coastline from Massachusetts to Florida and continues along into the Gulf of Mexico. Annually, this fictional North Carolina town celebrates the Christmas holidays with a flotilla of lights, as the boats that usually dock in the area are illuminated and display other holiday décor as they travel along the shore for all to see.
When one boat seems dark and off course, Brie (the protagonist)and her friend Pierre investigate. They found the ship's owner dead in his cabin. The small waterfront community gets involved as Brie and her friends investigate. Brie volunteers at the local pet shelter with her friend Serenity, an investigator with the state. The shelter is near the police station, so she also gets frequent opportunities to check in with her favorite detective, Ty.
Brie is a fairly new resident in this seaside town and is slowly making friends. But as her friends notice she has no holiday decorations at her tiny cottage, they bring them to her, and soon her home has holiday spirit as well. She finds some holiday spirit when she searches for the perfect gifts for her buddies.
Brie, far from her few relatives, slowly eases into the holiday spirit, even as she continues to ask questions and investigate. She enlists her friends, goes down quite a few blind alleys, and still has no answers. As her life is endangered, she feels she must be close to the right answer, but cannot find the clue she needs.
How will she find out which clue she missed? Could the dead owner's children see through her disguises? How could her friend be guilty and in jail? Why would her life be threatened and her decorations destroyed?
When all get together for a Christmas dinner, Brie also learns that “family “ doesn’t always just mean blood relatives.
I enjoyed this low-key mystery, laid-back like the coast it describes. The characters are interesting, and the setting is well-described. You might get salt in your hair and sand in your shoes as you read this pleasant tale.
I received an advance review copy of this book and have reviewed it fairly.

One of the traditions at Sea Oats Beach is a Christmas Flotilla, where people parade their illuminated boats to show their pride in ownership. When Bree and the people on her boat also collide with an unlit one, they go aboard to assess the problem - and find a corpse. A close friend comes under suspicion, so Bree looks into the matter, knowing that justice is not being served.

This is the third installation in The Sea Oats Beach Series. Typical for me, I'm entering this world as a novice, but it took just a few pages to get caught up with the characters and their relationships. As an aside, I'm not suggesting that this is where the reader should start - this story was so good that I'm profoundly sorrowful I missed the first two.

I loved the excitement and action in this book. It was meted out in proper doses, giving the reader a chance to catch their breath. The main character is a delightfully klutzy introvert, and these characteristics are a part of the story rather than mere descriptive terms.

As the story wrapped up, I felt fulfilled. The tale had been told engagingly, and it didn't overstay its welcome at the end. I feel lucky that I have more books to read in this series while waiting for the fourth to be written. I really enjoyed The Fatal Flottila at Sea Oats Beach and highly recommend this book for cosy lovers.

Thank you to Karen C Whalen and BookSirens for the opportunity to read this digital ARC. As always, my opinions are my own, honest and true.

In this latest edition of the Sea Oats Beach Cozy Mysteries, Breanna Hart is cruising along on the Intracoastal Waterway, in a decorated Christmas boat parade, in the company of her friends and coworkers, Serenity and Pierce, and Tracker the bloodhound, when they come upon a cabin cruiser drifting aimlessly in the darkness. After they hit the cruiser, Breanna and Pierce board that boat to find out why it’s seemingly abandoned, only to find a dead body below deck. The disturbing discovery launches Bree on her latest investigation into solving a murder. The search leads her on a trail with a number of mishaps and even to incidents that pose threats on her life. But Bree is determined to solve the mystery. As a volunteer at the animal shelter, she is also determined the local police department will adopt and train Tracker and give him a home.
I enjoy the Sea Oats Beach books. Bree is a realistic heroine, who has a crush on law enforcement officer, Ty, but is also becoming cozier with her surfer buddy, Roscoe. She has her share of socially inept occurrences that cause her to doubt herself, but you have to cheer for Bree as, along with Tracker, she navigates her way through the maze of clues. The Carolina coastal setting is almost another character in the story and lends to the beachy atmosphere.
While this is the third book in the series, you don’t have to have read the first two to enjoy this one. If you’re heading out on a spring break vacation and need a good book to read, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of The Fatal Flotilla at Sea Oats Beach.

The Fatal Flotilla at Sea Oats Beach is the kind of cozy mystery I reach for when I want a smart whodunit wrapped in atmosphere, heart, and just the right touch of humor. Karen Whalen drops us straight into the story with a vividly cinematic opening—a Christmas boat parade gone terribly wrong—and from there, the mystery unfolds at a satisfying, page-turning pace.

Sea Oats Beach feels fully alive: the coastal rhythms, the tight-knit (and occasionally nosy) community, and the off-season beach-town vibe all add depth without overwhelming the mystery. Bree is a relatable protagonist—flawed, compassionate, and just curious enough to get herself involved where she probably shouldn’t. Her connections to the animal shelter, her friendships, and even her holiday baggage make her feel like someone you’d genuinely want to know. Bonus points for Tracker the bloodhound and the cozy-mystery staple of lovable animals woven naturally into the story.

The mystery itself is well plotted, with enough twists to keep things interesting while still playing fair with the reader. I appreciated that the stakes felt real without drifting into dark or gritty territory—this is cozy mystery done right. Add in gentle romance, holiday touches, and strong community dynamics, and you’ve got a book that’s both comforting and compelling.

I’ll definitely be returning to Sea Oats Beach.

The Fatal Flotilla at Sea Oats Beach is a charming cozy beach murder mystery and the third installment in the Sea Oats Beach series. Even though I hadn’t read the first two books, I found it easy to jump right in and fully enjoy the story. The author does a wonderful job of providing just enough background to keep new readers oriented without slowing the pace.

The characters are incredibly likable, especially Bree and Natalie, whose friendship and determination drive the story forward. Their amateur sleuthing feels natural and engaging, making it easy to root for them as they work to uncover the truth. The plot is well crafted, offering subtle clues that reward attentive readers without making the mystery too obvious.

Set in December, the novel blends cozy Christmas vibes with seaside charm, creating a festive yet suspenseful atmosphere. As Bree and Natalie nose around for answers, one ends up in jail while the other receives threatening notes and survives a suspicious accident. Despite the danger, the pair remain determined to identify the real murderer and protect their beloved beach town.

Overall, this book is a delightful cozy mystery filled with warmth, intrigue, and holiday spirit. It’s perfect for readers who enjoy small-town settings, strong friendships, and a puzzle that keeps you guessing until the end.

Karen Whalen has done it again—so many terrific mysteries, murders, complex plots—how does she do it? She’s an amazing writer, that’s how! I’ve read many of her cozy mystery books and they are numerous but unique, each one fresh and engaging. The Fatal Flotilla takes place at Christmas, and as the plot unfolds, it engages the reader to the very end. The book is filled with Breanna’s amateur sleuthing, her diverse group of friends—from the vet tech at the animal shelter where she volunteers to the police she works with, to the cute surfer dude, and caring women friends, and of course, the wonderful furry characters she loves as much as her human friends.

This story starts with a murder on a boat in a Christmas boat parade—so different! And the plot continues on with lots of twists and turns and I really didn’t guess the murderer at all. The author really has a gift for developing mystery plots, and for describing settings so well you actually feel like you’re in a real town of Sea Oats Beach, and at the beaches of North Carolina, and the animal shelter and her home. So, if you like warm, diverse characters, beautiful beach settings, Christmas festivities, and a wonderful murder mystery filled with suspense and surprises, then read this book now!

I was fortunate to receive an advance copy of the latest Sea Oats Beach mystery, and highly recommend it for lovers of well written cozy mysteries with well developed characters.

A quirky, socially anxious, and totally loveable volunteer at the local animal shelter has a knack for falling into the middle of mysteries. Often literally. In this fun addition to the Sea Oats Beach series, Bree again finds herself searching for a murderer. At the same time, she’s in a challenge with her father to revive the spirit of Christmas, and trying to rescue one of the shelter’s dogs, Tracker.

The cast of characters is varied and so well developed that I felt I knew every one of them. The twists and turns left me guessing, and the final reveal of the murderer was a total surprise. The author weaves in clues and hints that you don’t even notice until everything comes together. Then you realize you tripped over important clues on almost every page.

Set at the Christmas holidays, this makes for a perfect “beach read” any time of year that will keep you up late to find out what happens next. I hope the series continues, Bree is a strong character who has become part of her community and one heck of a creative yet klutzy sleuth.

Wonderful!!

I read book 1 but unfortunately haven't read book 2. That didn't dim my enjoyment of this book.

The main character in the book, of course, is Breanna, who suffers from Societal Anxiety Disorder. She is often clumsy, shy, & uncertain, and these things help make her the wonderful, real feeling character she is. When she and her friend Roscoe discover a dead body on a boat during the Christmas Flotilla celebration, she and her neighbor investigate. When that neighbor is accused of the murder, Bree is even more intent on finding out who the real murderer is.

There are a few other threads - a wonderful "contest" between Bree & her dad to bring back the Christmas spirit, two men she likes and maybe wants to develop more of a relationship with, and several wonderful friends who are there for her. And of course, all the sweet animals!

It's a delightful tale, a lovely setting, and a well told story with great characters. I did not figure out the culprit until they were revealed.

Look forward to Book 4!

Beautiful, charmingly klutzy animal shelter volunteer Breanna Hart returns in the third installment of Whalen’s Sea Oats Beach mystery series. As in the previous books, vivid, salt-tinged descriptions of the Carolina coast create an irresistible backdrop as Bree stumbles upon another body—this time a man found shot aboard a drifting cabin cruiser during the town’s Christmas flotilla. True to her curious nature, Bree can’t help shadowing the investigation, even doing a bit of sleuthing herself. But when a close friend is wrongfully arrested, she won’t rest until the real killer is unmasked.

Suspects multiply, motives tangle, and Bree and her friends find themselves in predicaments equal parts dangerous and comic as they chase down every lead. And in classic cozy mystery fashion, a festive Christmas dinner brings all the players together—where one careless slip finally gives Bree the final piece she needs to put the puzzle together and finger the unexpected perpetrator.

Clever, atmospheric, and thoroughly entertaining, The Fatal Flotilla at Sea Oats Beach is a standout addition to the series.

This is the 3rd book in the Sea Oats Mystery series although to tell which one you either have to read other reviews or check the publication date. I wish it was always clear on the cover where in the chronology these mysteries appear.

However, this being the first one I've read in this series, I am looking forward to reading #1 & #2 then continuing on from here!

I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. Many red herrings and an unsuspected killer, a flawed but sympathetic main character Breanna, a police station next door to an animal shelter (where Bree volunteers), an loveable Bloodhound who needs a forever home, all make this an out of the usual run of mysteries. Bree has Social Anxiety Disorder (the other SAD syndrome) and is a natural klutz, falling, bumping into things, spilling liquids on other people, and always totally embarrassed and humiliated by her actions. The little town of Sea Oats on the North Carolina shore is its own character and seems like it would be a fun and relaxed place to live (except for the murder) with lots of Christmas traditions including the annual flotilla.

I loved it and will happily recommend it to cozy mystery lovers who enjoy a bit of humor and unique main characters.

Thank you to BookSirens for giving me the book in exchange for my honest review.

I trust Karen C. Whalen to deliver satisfying cozy mysteries, and "The Fatal Flotilla at Sea Oats Beach" doesn't disappoint. The subtle Christmas background setting for this story does an excellent job of enhancing the shock value of a murder, while exposing emotional traumas of past holidays. The book opens with a crime that the young heroine, Bree, sets out to solve since there is no immediate answer as to how, why, and by whom this killing was committed. She encounters danger and opposition in her quiet persistence for justice, but she also faces her own weaknesses, the volatility of friendship, and the need for family and personal healing of past wounds. This mystery not only keeps the reader guessing but also sympathetic to strong themes of personal and animal wellbeing, engaged in subplots of humorous friendships, and holding their breath as more than one potential hero crosses Bree's path. Thank you, Karen, for another satisfying mystery solved by an enjoyable and multifaceted heroine!

I read and enjoyed Washed Up at Sea Oats Beach, book 2 in this mystery series. In the third book, The Fatal Flotilla at Sea Oats Beach, Breanna "Bree" Hart and her friends are getting ready for Christmas. The Sea Oats Beach Animal Shelter has entered a fishing boat and Bree and her friends vet tech Pierce Kline and his girl friend Animal Control officer Serenity Creede are on it. When they come upon an abandoned cabin cruiser drifting along ahead of them, they go onboard to check it out. What they discover is the dead body of Greg Gibson. He'd been shot. When Bree's neighbor/friend becomes a suspect in the murder, Bree once again begins sleuthing. I really like Tracker, the bloodhound who is the longest unadopted rescue at the animal shelter. I really liked the contest between Bree and her father of completing the 12 "ways" of celebrating Christmas. This series has likable characters who care about rescue animals. That along with the seaside town as a setting make this an enjoyable series to me.

Another great cozy mystery by Karen C Whalen! The Fatal Flotilla at Sea Oats Beach is the third book in the Sea Oats Beach mystery series. I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. While participating the in annual Christmas Holiday boat Flotilla, Breanna Hart comes across a boat drifting out to sea with a dead body. When Breanna's friend is accused of the murder, Breanna starts investigating to find the real murderer. As with all cozy mysteries there are a few twists to the story line and a number of potential suspects. The story has a lot of great characters that have great interactions which adds more dimensions to the story. The main character Breanna suffers from social anxiety and the author does a great job incorporating Breanna's struggles and over thinking of every part of life into the storyline. I really enjoyed this third book in the series and look forward to reading more stories about life in Sea Oates Beach. I highly recommend this entire series.

Murder, Christmas, and animals!

Bree lost her mother several years ago and since then, she and her family have not celebrated Christmas. She and her father decide to have a competition to see who can do twelve Christmas things before the holiday. As part of her list, Bree joins her friends at the Christmas Flotilla. Her plans derail when they find a body on an abandoned boat. The victim has been generous to the animal shelter in the past so Bree makes it her duty to find out what happened. Which just might land her neighbor in hot water. Along the way Bree, tries to help any cat or dog that crosses her path. Can she find a new home for Tracker the bloodhound, foster a pregnant cat, and get her neighbor out of jail before Christmas? And before the killer finds her? Love the beachy vibe of this series and characters, both human and animal that are so believable.

I received an ARC. This is my honest review.

Karen C. Whalen has a real gift for creating characters who feel instantly familiar, and her new release – The Fatal Flotilla at Sea Oats Beach - a cosy beach mystery is no exception. Bree, Ty and Roscoe return with all their identifiable quirks and charm that made them memorable previously. The moment their names appeared, I knew exactly who I was meeting again. Their authenticity is just one of the novel’s greatest strengths.

The mystery itself moves at a brisk, engaging pace, offering just enough twists to keep things interesting without ever losing the warm, easy-going tone that defines the series. And for readers who love animals woven naturally into a story, Tracker the dog and Mama Cat are a delightful presence throughout.
If you enjoy mysteries that are light, character driven, and satisfying from start to finish then this is for you - and for me, an easy five star. I was privileged to be given an ARC.

Loved receiving an advance review copy (for free!) and am happy to leave this review for a new book series I definitely will be reading!
Bree and her friends in the Sea Oats Beach community were a fun cast of characters, showing what small community life is like (good and bad) and the author's writing style made it an easy read.
I enjoyed the mystery aspect, and while still a cozy read, I felt the "whodunnit" was well disguised until the final reveal, as sometimes the answer becomes obvious too early and takes away from the storyline. This was definitely not the case. I look forward to finding the others in this series as well as exploring other series by this author and suggest others to do the same! Enough suspense to hold your attention, but nothing too heavy to make it anything but an enjoyable read! 4 Stars - Thank you BookSirens for the ARC!

Who doesn't love a good cosy mystery? The Fatal Flotilla certainly fits into that category. Our heroine, Bree, might not intend to be a sleuth, but when she finds a body on board a seemingly abandoned boat, she can't help but try to figure out what had happened.
One of the joys of this kind of story is trying to figure out whodunnit yourself. This time around I was completely barking up the wrong tree. I'd convinced myself that there were clues throughout the story that pointed to one particular person; to be fair, there were, but I just picked up the wrong clues and the wrong person. That didn't stop me from really enjoying this read, though.
This is the second book I've read in the Sea Oats Beach mystery series, and I'm sure that it won't be the last. I'm really enjoying them and lookforward to reading more in the future.

I am an ARC reader for Book Sirens and this is my honest opinion. I've been following this series and enjoyed it. It's a real Cozy mystery. Bree, the central character suffers social anxiety but that hasn't stopped her making friends in her beach community on island off the southern coast. Bree volunteers at the local animal shelter and sometimes helps animals at home. This time a cat soon to have kittens. The animal shelter shares a building with the small police department, which helps Bree get updates on what's happening. When a man is shot dead on his boat, and left adrift during the Christmas decorated boat flotilla, As usual, Free can't resist investigating but someone tried hard to make her stop. Her love life starts to warm up too. This is a pleasant series set in the kind of location that sounds perfect!

I quite enjoy this series and this is another terrific read. Bree and her friends discover a dead man on his boat and she sets out to do her own investigation when the finger of suspicion falls on one of her friends.

I like Bree, she is a clumsy but goodhearted person and there's a lot of funny moments when she's around. There's also lots of dangerous moments too and a few of these here which makes things even more interesting. I liked the fact that it was hard to quickly identify the culprit especially when everyone said the victim was such a lovely guy and I definitely only figured things out at the same time Bree did! The setting at Christmas added to the cozy vibe, as did Mama Cat ! I look forward to the next in the series.

If you enjoy cozy mysteries with fun and unique characters, then you’ll want to drop this at the top of your TBR list! Bree is a great FMC, and it’s nice to see an amateur sleuth who has extreme curiosity and a strong sense of justice that combine to override her anxiety disorder. (It’s always nice to see anxiety rep)! Although this is cozy, with plenty of heartwarming moments, there are also plenty of heart-pounding ones too. The story has good pacing, and I loved getting to try and solve the mystery alongside Bree and crew. Honestly, the friendship and support are a big part of why I love this series. It’s like a modern day Nancy Drew, but feels more relatable if that makes sense. Although this is set around Christmas time, it would be a perfect summer read. End note: you can read this as a standalone, but you’d be missing a lot of fun if you skipped the first two books in the series!

I mean, who doesn't love dogs... and Christmas?! I mean come on.

Karen C. Whalen brings another beach read in her Sea Oats Beach Series and it's delightful and funny. We join Breanna Hart during a Christmas floating parade where she is hoisted like a main sail right into the center of a mystery. Why is there a boat floating aimlessly and where is the driver?

With Christmas right around the corner Breanna is challenged with both a murder mystery and reviving her flailing Christmas spirit through a contest with her dad. The contest? To do 12 different things to celebrate the holiday. They're neck and neck and both are determined to win.

The Fatal Flotilla is a fun read and one you won't want to put down until you've finished it. Be sure and pick it up alongside the others in the series.

The Fatal Flotilla at Sea Oats Beach by Karen C. Whalen is a cozy mystery and a fun read. It begins with a pre-Christmas parade of boats decorated for the holiday and ends in the discovery of a murder. Breanna, an endearingly klutzy and introverted animal shelter volunteer, can no more resist investigating a crime than a cat can resist a mouse. Her friends and neighbors aid abet her rampant curiosity and lend their support. As if a murder before Christmas (her least favorite time of year) wasn’t enough to deal with, she’s fostering a pregnant cat due to deliver and torn between two possible boyfriends: her cop crush and a surfer dude friend. Now if only she can survive her tendency to fall over things and a murderer’s attempts to discourage her sleuthing, she may live to enjoy the holiday.

I always love it when a sweet doggo gets its forever home, and this one even had a renewed purpose in life as well. Tucker the bloodhound was super useful in tracking clues down in this book, so Bree kept him close at hand. I really hoped she’d adopt him since she’s always getting involved in mysteries, but there’s someone just as good willing to take this bestest boy.

When Bree and her friend from the shelter found a body on a boat, everyone was shocked when it was a guy who’d apparently been liked by all. I sure never guessed who the perp was and thought the showdown took place at about the safest setting possible. I’m really eager to read the next book now!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book, and my opinions are my own.

For those of us who love the lights and loveliness of Christmastime all year long, this is the perfect read. Well, okay, there's a murder involved. What fun!
I've read the first two in the series, and this one perfectly follows, though you don't need to read the first two to know what's going on in this one. The author has a gift for inserting just enough past information to let the reader know only what they need to without giving anything away. The plot is unique, the characters beautifully drawn, and the atmosphere is such that you feel like you're actually there and never want to leave. While I wanted to solve the murder, there were enough twists and turns to keep me guessing all the way to the end. I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

I liked Bree's commitment to the rescue shelter. It was inspiring to me. Bree showed a great deal of personal growth throughout the story. I thought the possible love triangle of

Bree, Roscoe, and Ty was intriguing. The root of the whodunit stumped me. I thought I was sure I knew who the villain was. Bree's clumsiness and the villain trying to distract her were some scary moments, but Bree plods on with her Investigations. . Twists and turns so wild!!! What a surprise Bree got for Christmas from Natalie!!! I voluntarily read a

free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest review.

The Fatal Flotilla at Sea Oaks is Book 3 in the Sea Oats Beach series by Karen C Whaken. I love holiday books. I play Christmas music in the summer. So, reading a Christmas setting after the holiday just makes me smile. I thought the author painted a beautiful picture as she described the boats and the twinkling wonderland. Brennan with her favorite veterinarian discover a murder on one if the boats. This was a definite damp on the fun. I enjoyed how the author wove Christmas through the mystery. I thought the book was very entertaining. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

I loved Bree. She and her father are trying to revive the festive spirit of Christmas by challenging each other to do 12 different festive things. That would be difficult enough in itself, but she stumbles on a dead body during the festive flotilla.

An animal lover she also takes an interest in Tracker, a bloodhound she thinks will make a great K9 officer.

Three things you are cheering for her to accomplish but the killer has other ideas, her father wants to win the challenge, and Tracker is running out of time. Bree has her hands full and Christmas is coming.

I was lucky to receive an advance copy.
