When Caleb Marks staggers out of a mountain blizzard after two weeks missing, his wife Ava dares to believe the nightmare is over.
He’s alive. He’s home. But he’s not the same.
Barefoot and frostbitten, Caleb carries a cold no fire can warm—and a silence deeper than the snow that buried him. As the days pass, Ava watches the man she loves slip further his skin unnaturally chilled, his gaze fixed on the dark tree line, his hunger growing into something primal and wrong.
Ranger Billy Clearwater knows the mountains keep secrets older than maps. He’s seen the marks carved into ancient pines, the bodies taken apart with unnatural care. And he knows whatever followed Caleb home isn’t finished.
Cut off by endless winter, Ava must face an impossible the husband she fought to bring back may no longer be human… and the thing wearing his face is learning how to smile.
Some hungers can’t be buried. Some loves refuse to let go.
How far would you go to save the one you love— when saving him means damning everyone else?
This book had a great pace, didn't feel too long or too short, perfect to curl up with a blanket and read in an evening. The story kept me wanting to read more. Definitely would recommend to others.
