Elise, a witch, is at the zoo infirmary one night practicing her healing magic on an injured fox when a break in occurs. The intruder is intent on stealing medical supplies - but no illicit drugs - and seeing her in her scrubs, assumes she’s a veterinarian and demands she go with him to treat someone important to him.

Beta werewolf Nico has been helplessly waiting with the rest of his pack for their alpha to recover from an otherworldly attack. In desperation, he commits a B & E and a kidnapping, and worst of all, his wolf is very interested in his captive.

After nearly a week of trying to stealthily deliver magic healing to the unconscious alpha, Elise is caught red-handed by the infuriating and alluring Nico. Incensed that she’s a witch, they have a heated exchange in private that quickly becomes something much more incendiary, and he knows he must smuggle her away from the pack as quickly as possible.

Her coven are furious as well at the “unnatural” connection between the warring species, the pack isn’t accepting either except for the alpha who begrudgingly offers Elise limited access to spend time with Nico, and to top off the tangled mess, a rival pack has deadly intentions toward the star-crossed pair.

Will they overcome all the obstacles in their way and forge a life together?

This was a delightful read by the wonderful Kate Rudolph. It had lots of steam, some lore, and action to keep the plot moving. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I received an advance reader copy from the author and Booksprout, and I’m sharing my honest review.

Loved Nico and Elise. When he broke into the zoo for supplies and ended kidnapping her, I was like oh no…but Omgosh, it was the best thing that ever happened to those two. I loved their connection even though he was a wolf and she was a witch. A huge no no for his pack. But your heart wants what it wants. And theirs wanted each other. Such an intriguing story. From start to finish, I enjoyed this book.

She was supposed to save his pack, not become the thing he’d die for

When Nico’s alpha is left dying from a wound that won’t heal, desperation drives him straight into Elise’s path. She looks harmless in scrubs, but the moment he takes her, something in him locks on hard. What should be a desperate bargain starts to feel a lot more dangerous, especially when keeping her close stops feeling temporary.

Elise is terrified, furious, and smart enough to know Nico is a threat, but every moment between them cuts deeper than either expects. Fear, forced proximity, and buried secrets turn into something hotter, more intimate, and much harder to survive once the line between enemy and shelter starts to blur. He’s all control and instinct, while she’s softer than he expected and stronger than anyone realizes.

As loyalty fractures and old hatred closes in, Nico and Elise have to choose between the worlds that shaped them and the bond changing them. Their relationship shifts from coercion and tension into trust, tenderness, and hard-won devotion.

A dark, ultra-steamy paranormal romance where loyalty, fear, and inherited prejudice collide with intimacy, forcing a werewolf and a witch on opposite sides of a long-standing divide to choose between duty and the connection changing them. It’s about trust, vulnerability, survival, and the way forbidden desire can turn fear into devotion.

The Elevator Pitch: When a desperate werewolf abducts the woman he thinks can save his dying alpha, he has no idea he’s brought a witch into the heart of pack territory. What begins as coercion and fear turns into a dangerous pull neither of them can afford, as loyalty, secrecy, and desire tighten around them. As old hatred and rising stakes threaten to tear them apart, they must decide whether the bond forming between them is worth betraying everything they were taught to protect. Narrator Michelle Morrie gives a charged, emotionally clear performance that sharpens the tension, deepens the vulnerability, and carries the heat with steady control.

Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥 Ultra-Steamy / Erotic Romance

Audio: Narrator Michelle Morrie gives a grounded, emotionally charged performance that suits Elise and Nico well. She keeps the pacing tight, gives each voice enough distinction to stay clear, and handles the darker tension, vulnerability, and heat with confidence without losing the story’s emotional core.

Sometimes fate doesn’t knock politely.
Sometimes it breaks into your life, throws you over a shoulder, and changes everything.

Taken by the Wolf by Kate Rudolph is a thrilling paranormal romance that blends danger, loyalty, and irresistible chemistry into a story where enemies become allies—and love grows where it should never exist.

Elise thought she was living a quiet life. After breaking away from the expectations of her powerful witch family, she found peace with a small coven and a job at an animal rescue where she can use her healing magic to help injured creatures. It’s the life she chose for herself—simple, meaningful, and far from the politics of magical conflict.

Then Nico crashes into it.

Literally.

Desperate to save his dying alpha, Nico—a fierce and loyal werewolf beta—breaks into the zoo infirmary looking for medical supplies. When he finds Elise in her purple scrubs tending to an injured fox, he assumes fate has delivered the veterinarian he desperately needs.

So he kidnaps her.

Nico doesn’t know two crucial things: Elise isn’t a vet… and she’s a witch—the sworn enemy of his kind.

From the moment Nico brings her back to the pack, tension crackles between them. His wolf is immediately fascinated by the stubborn, brave woman he’s taken prisoner, and Elise is just as infuriated as she is intrigued by the growly protector who refuses to let her go.

Forced proximity quickly intensifies everything. Nico keeps Elise close to prevent her escape—sometimes so close they end up sharing the same bed, separated only by a wall of pillows and a growing attraction neither can deny.

But this story isn’t just about chemistry. It’s about loyalty and impossible choices.

Elise secretly uses her magic to try to heal the injured alpha, knowing that revealing her powers could put her in danger. When Nico finally discovers the truth—that she’s a witch—the confrontation between them is explosive, emotional, and charged with feelings neither of them wants to admit.

Meanwhile, the world around them grows more dangerous. Nico’s pack struggles to accept a witch among them, Elise’s coven fears the consequences of her connection with a wolf, and a rival pack begins plotting something far more deadly.

Through it all, Nico’s devotion shines. His wolf has already decided Elise belongs with them, and the little gifts and tokens he brings her every day add a sweet, surprisingly tender side to the fierce werewolf protector.

What makes this story truly satisfying is how the two rival groups—wolves and witches—eventually realize that cooperation might be their greatest strength. Watching enemies become allies adds another layer of heart to an already compelling romance.

If you love:

enemies-to-lovers romance

fated mates with impossible odds

forced proximity and “only one bed” tension

protective wolf heroes

magical heroines who refuse to back down

then Taken by the Wolf is a story that delivers adventure, heart, and a romance that refuses to be denied.

Because sometimes the biggest mistake a wolf can make…
is kidnapping the one woman fate meant for him all along.

A captivating and engaging read, wonderful characters and plot that I highly recommend
Nico has taken Elise in an abduction that has gone very seriously wrong leaving some vicious wolves extremely angry, it is a very exciting and full on action start to a new series. Elise has been enjoying being free of her suffocating family she currently is working with animals and when possible has also been practicing her magical healing on animals where it has been appropriate.
Nico is the Beta wolf in his new pack; he has been left in charge whilst his Alpha has been suffering from a strange illness. He has been trying to find answers to his alpha illness and had tried a vet as this is a loophole as she does not treat humans, she treats animals and he hoped she hay has some idea when she knows his Alphas symptoms.
Nico had not realised that the vet was in fact a non-doctor which is permitted but is also a witch which is not permitted and should his pack discover this, Elise could be killed by his packmates so he has to keep this fact well-hidden and hope a cure can be found.
As the pair that are initially kidnapper and kidnappee become friends as they work together to find a cure for the pack alpha, they also begin to fall in love and are also trying to keep each other alive and their secret safe.
This was a wonderfully written story with plenty of action and excitement I am sure other readers will be as enamoured as myself.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

Taken by the Wolf is a wonderful shifter romance! I like the world that Rudolph is starting to build in this book. It involves warring wolf shifter packs who also are warring with witch covens—or are they? Rudolph sprinkles in hints that all is not what it seems on the surface in this tale of a shifter and a witch discovering that they’re fated mates.

Of course, that’s a bit of a problem when witches don’t have a concept of fated mates and since Nico, er, kidnapped Elise in the mistaken belief that she’s a vet. He needs someone to heal his alpha when his natural healing instincts aren’t working, so who better than someone who works with animals? Lucky for him that Elise’s magic happens to be healing.

The best thing, hands down, about this book is the utterly practical approach that Elise and Nico take to their relationship. They try to resist their pull to one another, but once they understand what’s happening, each turns into the other’s best support. I loved that we didn’t get any wishy-washiness from them about each other.

Instead, the conflict is external, and it’s a big one. After all, wolves and witches detest one another, with ways of life that are quite different. Seeing how Elise and Nico navigate that while remaining true to their natures (Nico is impulsive like his animal, while Elise is nurturing like her magic) makes this an utterly grand start to Rudolph’s new series.

Michelle Morie's voice is a natural fit for this story warm, expressive, and with a playfulness that matches the book's tone perfectly. She doesn't just read the words; she performs the characters, giving each one a distinct personality that makes it easy to stay immersed.

Her portrayal of the FMC is where she truly shines, she nails the voice with a confidence and charm that keeps you rooting for the heroine throughout. The MMC's POV sections are slightly less convincing, and her delivery there didn't quite land with the same strength, but it's a minor quibble in an otherwise engaging listen.

The real highlight? Watching the characters fumble through pretending to be werewolves and witches. Morie leans fully into the awkwardness it's hilariously, gloriously bad in the best possible way. And yes, it's a little cheesy but that's entirely the point. This isn't a story that takes itself too seriously, and the narration mirrors that energy beat for beat. The cheese is a feature, not a bug, and Morie clearly understands the assignment.

If you're looking for a fun, lighthearted paranormal romance with a narrator who brings genuine comedic timing and personality to the table, this audiobook delivers. Pop it on for a commute or a cozy afternoon.

What a really good read. From the start it was fast paced and kept you interested. Nico - given more responsibility than he wanted due to the Alpha being hurt, makes a decision that changes everything. Elise - the witch that heals, gets pulled into a situation where she needs to keep her witch stuff concealed. I liked how these two interacted with each other from the start. It was funny how Elise kept coming up with questions and comments a "human" would ask. Her in error thoughts while she was kidnapped was funny. There are other characters that I hope get their HEA too. Reece what a grumpy wolf. But maybe just maybe he is protesting a little too much?? Javi- now there is a wolf everyone wants to be friends with. He is level headed yet fierce. Cole the Alpha. The story never got back to who shot him or why. Maybe future books will cover this. This was the whole setup for the story yet the mystery was not revealed.
The Coven. What a mismatch group of witches. Yet they make one powerful team. Each of them has their strengths and opinions. Yes I can see them pairing up with the Wolves! But that is going to be some creative writing and I am looking forward to reading more in this series.

Think Romeo and Juliet, mixed with a botched abduction and some seriously vicious wolves and this is a great start to a new PNR/urban fantasy series.

Elise is enjoying her new life. She is away from her suffocating family, working with animals and doing a little magical healing when she can. Her new sisters from the coven can be a bit much but she knows they ultimately have her back.

Nico also escaped his planned life. Now he's a Beta in his new pack, left in charge when his Alpha is out out of commission. He was never supposed to involve a human doctor, but a vet isn't a human doctor - loophole! Yes, except he kind of didn't check who Elise was before he abducted her!

Now they have to keep her witchy, non doctor self out of the claws of his pack who will not be happy to have a witch amongst them! Oh and there's that burning attraction between Nico and Elise that they can't seem to ignore!

From enemies and reluctant kidnapper/kidnappee, to tentative friends, to hot passionate lovers, these two run the gamut of feelings. They are both trying to save the other, all the while almost losing each other. There was some serious West Side Story/Romeo and Juliet vibes and it will be interesting to see who the new truce between their two families will work out.

Taken by the Wolf by Kate Rudolph was such a fun and engaging paranormal read that I honestly couldn’t put down once I started it. From the very first chapters, the story pulls you into a world filled with magic, danger, and characters that feel real and easy to root for.

One of my favorite parts of the book was Elise. She’s a strong and relatable main character who genuinely cares about helping others, especially the animals she works with. Her compassion and determination made it easy to connect with her, and I loved watching her grow as the story unfolded. The friendships and sense of community around her also added a lot of heart to the story, making the world feel warm and lived-in.

The paranormal elements were exciting and well woven into the plot. The wolf shifter storyline added suspense and intrigue, and the mystery kept me curious about what would happen next. I also appreciated how the pacing kept things moving without feeling rushed.

Overall, this was a really entertaining paranormal romance with a great mix of action, emotion, and supernatural intrigue.

I'm always excited to read a Kate Rudolph book. With this book especially, because it's the first book of hers that I've read that's a werewolf romance. I just enjoy the whole magic of it: werewolf culture, pack politics, and the renowned age-old tension between werewolves and witches. I got a satisfying taste of those in this book, and I particularly enjoyed the thrill of witnessing how the MCs' forbidden affair was going to survive and be accepted.

The characters had been quite entertaining too. I was happy that the MCs' transition from enemies to lovers was quite smooth and believable. It was engrossing to witness them deal with their growing connection - one they tried to vehemently deny given the age-old rivalry between their kinds. The side characters likewise added depth to the story, and it pleases me knowing that it will be their stories that will be featured in future installments of the series.

I had a wonderful time reading this book, proving again clearly that you can't go wrong with a Kate Rudolph romance.

I was granted a free copy of this book. I eagerly and voluntarily leave this review.

The story is exciting right from the beginning. You will love the characters. In this story witches and werewolves don't get along.
Nico is a sexy werewolf. His pack is attacked ,and his Alpha Cole gets fatally hurt. Their healer is gone right now. Usually being a werewolf they heal fast. But what ever their enemy used was keeping Cole from healing! So Nico takes things in his own hands. He breaks into the local zoo looking for medical supplies. What he finds will change his life forever.
Elise is a spunky healing witch. She snuck into the zoo planning to heal a sick fox. She is dressed in scrubs hoping if caught she will be mistaken for one of the medical staff. While there she hears a noise. When she checks it out Elise discovered Nico. She knows right off he is a werewolf.
Only Nico mistakes Elise as a human vet. He decided to kidnap her to help with Cole. Not only this but he believes she is his rated mate.
Then he discovered she is a witch! How can they be together when they are supposed to be enemies. Could fate have made a huge mistake?
You will love this exciting, and scorching hot five star werewolf romance.

Taken by the Wolf is a fantastic enemies-to-lovers paranormal romance with sharp tension, strong chemistry, and a richly imagined world. Kate Rudolph delivers a gripping start to the Southern Basin Pack series that pulls you in quickly and keeps the pages turning.

The witch/shifter dynamic adds real spark to the story, and the push-and-pull between the characters is intense and satisfying. The hero brings powerful alpha energy, while the heroine is strong, capable, and far from passive, making their clash and eventual connection feel earned. The pacing is excellent, balancing romance, world-building, and suspense without slowing the story down.

I’d highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy enemies-to-lovers romance, shifter stories with depth, and paranormal worlds full of tension and heart. If you love fiery banter, supernatural stakes, and romance that crackles with energy, this is a great read.

Taken by the Wolf is an enemies to lovers Wolf shifter romance and book one of the author’s new Southern Basin Pack series.
MMC Nico has a problem, his Alpha has been wounded and is dying, and refuses help from any human healer. So it is up to Nico to figure out what to do.
When Nico goes on the hunt for medicine he comes across it at a zoo and the pretty little Vet working there, FMC Elise. A human yes, but an animal healer…problem somewhat solved. So he kidnaps her.
Nico will be in for a surprise as events unfold and readers will be thrilled to stay immersed in this entertaining story that is packed with drama, adventure, action, magic, shifter dynamics, intrigue, mate bonding, and high heat passion.
Excellent writing with great characterizations delivered an energized narrative that kept the midnight oil burning as the race to the finish line was on. HFN
Looking forward to joining the pack again in the next book of the series.

Can't forget you by MeemsAngel82

This was a entertaining read about shifters and witches. Both hate one another which is a spicy combination when you consider both are powerful but vulnerable at the same time and nothing is black and white. Both have good and bad and have kept up hate between themselves because of history.

Our Beta needs help to save his Alpha and finds help with who he thinks is a veterinarian. Instead she turns out to be a witch, a kind of people his pack does not like. But he and his wolf like her all too much.

The two have great chemistry, have no doubt about that! She was smart to keep to herself and I don't blame her. He couldn't have really explained himself either, after his pack became suspicious of this woman he brought to help them. Luckily they figured out they needed to and wanted to choose each other over their own families. It took some effort but the respect is growing on both sides and I can't wait to find out how another pair falls in love!

This paranormal romance plays with the classic enemies-to-lovers trope, as wolf shifters and witches are sworn enemies in this world. The story kicks off with a chaotic (and slightly questionable) “rescue mission” where an injured alpha intends to kidnap a vet—but ends up taking the wrong person: an accountant from a wildlife rescue. That setup alone already adds a fun twist.
What follows is an entertaining mix of secrets and tension, as he tries to hide that he’s a werewolf while she keeps her identity as a witch under wraps. Despite everything, they’re fated mates, and watching them struggle with their growing attraction is both engaging and enjoyable.
There’s plenty of external conflict too—rival packs causing trouble, her coven adding pressure, and even her parents getting involved. All of this keeps the story moving and adds layers to the romance.
Overall, it’s a really fun and interesting read with likable characters, great tension, and a satisfying romantic payoff.

I get by with a little help from my friends 🎶

Everyone feels the love (even if reluctantly) in this latest captivating read with plenty of action, angst, and acceptance. Nico is suddenly in charge when Alpha Cole is afflicted with an unknown ailment. When he raids a veterinary clinic, he stumbles into Elise, a witch healing a fox and mistakenly thinks she is a vet. What follows grabs you and doesn’t let go as steam generated by fated mates, distrust between wolves and witches, and danger to them all explodes across the pages. I love that not everything is wrapped up nicely since there are still questions that will be so cool to uncover with the next books. A great start with nuanced characters to the series and I’ll get some rope for Delaney and Reece’s story 🤣.

The chemistry between Nico and Elise is intense and definitely not approved by either of their people; like a Romeo and Juliet story with a wolfy and witchy twist and a less tragic ending. The forbidden nature of their relationship drives the yearning between them as they try to fight their feelings.

Elise is smart, stubborn, and brave. She is able to hold her own against Nico's wolf energy. The way they slowly learn to trust each other, even with the extreme distrust from the rest of his pack, helps to make their romance feel genuine and earned.

I absolutely loved the world-building and the plot! Between the fascinating inner workings of the pack and the emerging external dangers, the Southern Basin Pack is an immersive universe I can’t wait to revisit.

This is the first book in the Southern Basin Pack series and in this maiden story, we are introduced to Nico and Elise. Nico a wolf shifter who's alpha's life is slowly draining away and Elise is a witch that may be able to help the pack leader. This is enemies to lovers, captive/forced proximity, shifter romance with lots of emotional events that deals with life/death, love/hate, and push/pull. The story was well paced and well told with great spice with equally great build-up to it. The two MCs chemistry was off the charts. Nico is faced with a choice between loyalty and love. This one was a fun read from the very beginning to the end and I would definitely recommend it. I can't wait for the second book.

Romeo, The Wolf And Juliet, The Witch
Wolves versus Witches, an age old enmity, that would make a relationship between Nico and Elise an impossibility. But when you are mates, staying away from each other is not possible either. And when a different wolf pack decides that kidnapping them both is a solution to the problem, Nico’s pack and Elise’s coven learn that working together towards a mutual goal can be a very satisfying commitment. Gives a much better ending than Shakespeare’s story!
I would recommend reading the bonus story, Wolf's Run, first, as it tells you what happened to Cole, which makes understanding what’s happening easier.

This was an entertaining and intense read that brings together Beta Nico and Witch Elise. Both thought they were getting a calm new life but yeah, that really didn't pan out for either of them ;) Nico's alpha has been injured and is out of commission. Now he's temporarily in charge and goes to the zoo to steal some supplies. Whilst there, he also decides to grab Elise, thinking she's a veterinarian. While she may use her magic to help heal zoo animals, she's no vet. And to ramp things up, witches and wolf shifters do not get along. Like at all! So yeah, I was definitely caught up in the drama, action, connection, danger and spice in this exciting fated mates romance. I'm really looking forward to the next book. Good fun!

Right of the bat, we're placed straight into the action. This was fast-paced, easy to follow, and fun to read/listen to.

Nico is a wolf shifter, and Elise is a healing witch. They are natural enemies, so of course, this made for some great forbidden tension as they tried to fight their attraction, but they couldn't fight fate, especially with only one bed...

Narrated by Michelle Morrie. She was easy to listen to as she delivered the story and characters with great pacing.

I listened to the audiobook version so this review is based on that. Its a sweet werewolf romance where his mate is a witch. In this world witches and werewolves are enemies and the story is mostly about the trials and tribulations of being a mixed couple, while dealing with an enemy pack.

I enjoyed the story and the narration was ok. It was all narrated in a females voice but it felt slow to listen to, so after a few chapters i sped up the narration to 1.3 and that sounded more of a normal speech pattern to me. It was nice that it's not an AI voice.

Taken by the Wolf had all the right ingredients for a gripping listen—intriguing premise, strong characters, and plenty of tension. The story showed real promise, but repetitive descriptions and a few scenes that felt out of place pulled me out of the experience. The narration was a mixed bag; while expressive, it leaned a bit too breathy at times, and the audio consistency wasn’t always smooth. Overall, it’s an enjoyable listen with solid potential, but it could’ve benefited from tighter editing and more balanced production.

Witches and Wolves hate each other. So when Witch Elise is kidnapped by Wolf Nico thinking that she's a veterinarian and can help his sick Alpha so it puts her in a dangerous situation. One where she has to keep who she is secret and carry on lying about what she can do.

Close proximity between Elise & Nico kicks off plenty of steamy scenarios. I loved Elise's Coven and I hope we get to read more from them in future books as well as from characters in Nico's pack too. I'll be honest I want to find out more about Nico's Alpha too? Back to this book I enjoyed reading it and I loved all of the characters in it.

This was more like 3.5-3.75 stars for me. It was a good start in the beginning, towards the middle part it started feeling a bit clunky for the plot and characters. This particular world building could have been better described. Overall, it was still a fun story of wolves and witches coming together after generations of hatred and mistrust for one another. It looks like this coven will be playing a major part in changing the packs mind soon.

I’d classify this as a good romcom, lots of laughs, a love/hate relationship and a dangerous situation. Kidnapping seems to be a pass time in this story of course the villain changes, how the victim is treated and who does the rescue. I really enjoy the collaboration effort between witches and wolves to rescue the mated pair. Much more is involved between adventures and romance but this was my favorite part.
