Love looks different from the other side. Six men. Six POVs. One wildly messy love story.
The Male Perspective retells the hilarious, heartbreaking world of Frolick—but this time, the men get to speak. Emotional spirals, jealousy, longing, mistakes, chaos… everything Sam didn’t see is finally revealed.
If Book 1 was the rom-com, Book 2 is the consequence.
Told with humor, heat, and brutal honesty, this second installment delivers a fresh take on the story readers already love—proving that every love story has more than one version of the truth.
This book is best enjoyed after reading Frolick (Book 1).
Jen is a writer, mom, and certified chaos connoisseur. Her debut novel Frolick is a sharp, spicy, and sometimes soul-punching journey through heartbreak, healing, and the art of self-rescue. When she’s not writing or daydreaming up emotionally messy characters, she’s probably baking something indulgent, blasting screamo music, or pretending Bravo TV counts as research.
She lives with her husband and 10-year-old sidekick, two judgmental cats (Remy and Rex), and a doodle named Tucker who thinks he runs the house (he’s not wrong). Art is her therapy, whether she’s sketching, sanding furniture with a vengeance, or rage-painting to heavy metal. If you’ve ever loved the wrong guy, cried in the craft store, or screamed into a throw pillow, her stories are for you.
“Okay. I just finished the sequel to Frolick — and this one is from the men’s perspective.
And because I’m apparently incapable of doing anything normally, I tandem-read it. Scene by scene. Sam’s version first… then his.
And wow.
Reading the exact same moments from both sides made everything feel louder. Not more dramatic — just more layered. You realize very quickly how two people can be in the same relationship and be living completely different emotional experiences.
No one suddenly gets redeemed. No one turns into a cartoon villain either. You just get the why. The insecurity. The ego. The confusion. The “I thought she meant…” energy.
And honestly? The red flags were even more obvious this time. Which felt… accurate.
The perspective shift was done really well. It didn’t feel like Sam with a fake mustache on. The voices felt distinct, believable, grounded.
It was totally bingeable — the only reason it took me longer is because I insisted on rereading the first book alongside it like a literary Nancy Drew with trust issues.
Solid four stars. And I’m not even kidding — reading this makes the first book better. Together, they just hit deeper.
I am wholly unwell. I am damn near unhinged. Completely ready to throw my Kindle out my second story window. I read all of Frolick yesterday and all of Frolick: The Male Perspective today and I NEED Frolick: The Wedding for TOMORROW. I think this was a masterful way to start a series. Dual perspectives of all six men in Sam’s life? I am here for it. I have notes on who I want her to end up with and even more notes on who I don’t want her to end up with. In short, Craig - Neutral, Bobby - Hell Yes, Alec - No, Lee - Hell Yes, Brian - No, Shane - No. I am so entrenched in this series, I can’t explain the anticipation I have for book three. Specific notes about Book Two - I want every man I meet to describe me like these men describe Sam. It makes me want to ask my husband if he felt these same reactions when he first saw me. But maybe it’s safer if I leave that answer to my imagination instead.
Have you ever questioned the male’s brain when they’re a legit walking flag of any color: red, green, beige or when you need to put in the white one?!
This book- this is for you. Jennifer Green-Neff has a phenomenal way of making you have a conversation in your brain with a character who is actively in THEIR brain. It breaks down the things as women we tend to overlook, not because we’re overly emotional, but because we as women- can’t be like men (no offense, but thank god haha). It makes you question choices, decisions and even some of the men you might’ve even dated.
Frolick: The Male Perspective is the companion book to Frolick. Yes you need this book. Yes I would recommend you read Frolick first, and remember which man you put on the pedestal. Because…Yes you will absolutely change your mind on which male lead is the better fit for the FMC and which one you wish would have sleepless nights and gum stuck in their hair (if they have hair) for weeks.
You will laugh, cry, and feel that heartbreak like there’s no tomorrow. Don’t sleep on it-and pick up the Frolick series!
I felt so lucky to have received this as an ARC considering I was already completely wrecked and itching for closure from Frolick — so naturally I immediately started The Male Perspective in the same minute.
Being inside the guys’ heads added so much to the story. I ended up rooting for some of the guys I most DEFINITELY wasn’t rooting for before, and seeing their perspectives made all the tension, the emotions, and the chaos hit even harder. It’s messier, spicier, and so addictive — I flew through it without even realizing it.
The writing is raw, relatable, and full of those little moments that make you laugh, cringe, and feel all the feelings at once. If you loved Frolick or just enjoy stories with messy, real, and utterly addictive characters, this one is an absolute must-read.
Frolick: The Male Perspective is book two in the series and retells the events of book one from the male point of view. It can easily be tandem read alongside Frolick, and doing so adds extra context and emotional nuance to the story.
I really enjoyed seeing the male perspective on the relationships with Sam. Even when the choices made were questionable or outright toxic, this POV helped explain the motivations behind them and made those decisions feel more understandable, if not excusable.
Overall, it was a cute, short read that complemented the first book well. I’m definitely interested in continuing the series and seeing where the story goes in book three. 📚✨
*ARC Review* “Oh Shit: Why Did I Say That” is the second installment of the Frolick Trilogy. If you’re wondering who proposed…you still won’t have any answers by the end. I liked Frolick, but I absolutely adored being inside the boys/men’s heads as they proceeded to introduce their foots to their mouths over and over again. You won’t get an closure with this one, but you’ll get enjoyment, and that was good enough for me.
4.5 Stars, would recommend.
Both Frolick and this one are available on KU. You can enjoy this without reading the first one, but you should read it first.
Not going to lie, that cliffhanger left me feeling a bit betrayed.
I loved this book; I love that she changed my opinion on everyone except Brain. We still loathe the Brian’s of the dating world. I loved that book two was “better” than book one. I loved that I was obsessed and it left me rabid for book three, which is coming at an undisclosed agonizing time that is far too far from now. I feel like there is only one logical outcome and I’m fairly sure she will prove me wrong yet again.
This series is fun, fresh, hard, painful and so very special.
I can't say much without giving things away, but it was such a good read. This is a companion novel to Frolick as it tells the Sam's story but each chapter is the perspective of the guy was was dating. You understand the thoughts and feelings that lead to the choices they made, most of the time stupid choices. I definitely want to read them in tandem with each other at some point before the third book comes out.
The first book in this series was great, so I really enjoyed this retelling from the guys POV. Can’t wait for the next book in the series! Congrats Jenn!!
