This New Year's Eve, the mountain man boss is determined to claim his sweet little assistant before the clock strikes midnight.
Joy
Pathetic. That's the word for a curvy girl who crushes hopelessly on her grumpy boss the way I do mine. But it's not my fault the growling mountain man demands I drive to his remote cabin at least once a week to bring him paperwork.
I mean, join the twenty-first century and send an email. But then I wouldn't have the chance to visit him every week. See? I'm in a lot of trouble and not the good kind.
That's why I accept the invitation to the New Year's Eve masquerade. For a few hours, I can put on a mask and pretend that my hot boss is one of the guys here tonight. Maybe I can even pretend he's the one who won't stop staring at me.
Ford
Irresistible. That's the word for my curvy assistant I keep demanding to see in person.
Computer illiterate grump. That's what she thinks I am. I'll keep letting her think it because I live for these moments when I get to scowl at my pretty little assistant.
But the moment I see her invitation to the masquerade party, I know I can't let her go. I'm not letting her sneak away to some party to kiss other men.
No, I'll be the one kissing her lips and convincing her to leave with me. By the time the clock strikes midnight, she'll belong to me forever.

He showed up to the masquerade to stop her from kissing anyone else.
Joy's spent six months silently falling for her emotionally distant boss, Ford. He avoids emails just to make sure she hand-delivers paperwork to his remote mountain cabin. She knows he’ll never look at her the way she dreams, so she accepts a mysterious New Year’s Eve masquerade invite. For one night, she can pretend. For one night, she can feel wanted.
Ford has no intention of letting anyone else touch her. When he finds the invitation she dropped, jealousy drives him straight to Club Crave. Behind a mask, he finally lets himself have what he’s been craving for months. He worships her body, her laugh, everything she hides. But the truth stays buried because he's sure once she sees the man behind the mask, she’ll leave.
Their night together is unforgettable, full of heat, hunger, and something deeper neither of them is ready to name. But afterward, silence and fear create distance that threatens to break everything before it begins. What starts as fantasy becomes impossible to ignore, and when the truth comes out, it’s not just about what happened behind closed doors.
Joy steps out of the shadow she’s lived in and learns to trust her voice. Ford stops running from the past and starts reaching for a future he never thought he could have. What begins with tension and hidden feelings becomes a love built on truth, healing, and connection that doesn’t let go.
A steamy, age gap, grumpy sunshine, boss-assistant, small town, mountain man romance with hidden identity, forced proximity, mutual pining, and emotional payoff. It explores self-worth, healing, trust, intimacy, identity, and the powerful choice to let yourself be seen. At its heart, it's about a man learning to open up, a woman stepping into her power, and a love that turns pretend into forever.
The Elevator Pitch: When a gruff mountain man crashes a masquerade to stop his assistant from kissing someone else, he ends up claiming her without revealing who he is. One unforgettable night turns into something deeper as hidden truths, unspoken longing, and fierce devotion come to the surface. Steamy, intense, and charged with emotion, it's a love that starts in disguise and ends with everything on the line.
I want to say that I LOVE Mia Brody's writing, and was so excited for this story. Courage County is one of my favourite fictional locations. But - I hated this book.

I can not get past the whole club/anonymous connection aspect. It is SO unlike anything else Mia has ever written, and was jarring. The plot turned on this, and it just completely took me out of the realationship development and IMHO was completely unnecessary. Give me a forced proximity romance/small town connection/found family romance any day - and any of those would have been so easy to do instead of this bizarre choice.
Also - a wedding at the club? Really? How do you ever tell your children about that?
I have never been disappointed by a Mia Brody book before, and am hoping this is the last time I am.
Ford and Joy….i loved both of them and their eventual steamy journey to a HEA epilogue. She works for him. Both are lusting over the other but think it’s one sided. A friend of Joy gives her an invite to an adults only club, Ford finds out. They both go, wearing masks to ‘hide’ their identity and from then on they are on fire. So emotional, so steamy, great friends and deep love. A quick read that I enjoyed A LOT.

Ford and Joys chemistry is amazing. They both want each other but can't bring themselves to tell the other. I love how possessive Ford is. I love it! The story was well written and I loved all the characters.

This was a cute boss employee romance. It was a short, fast paced story that had a good flow. I liked the storyline and Ford and Joy were such a cute couple.

I was so excited for Ford and Joy. Their story... not at all what I was expecting.. was i here for it? sure thing! This story was spicy and fun and what a way to ring in the New year!
This story kicks off with a familiar (and much-loved) setup: Ford, the reclusive, grumpy mountain man haunted by PTSD and survivor’s guilt, lives alone in his remote cabin working as an online security consultant. Joy is his relentlessly sunshiny assistant, who has to trek up to his cabin once a week to get important paperwork signed. Not that she’s complaining because it’s the only time she gets to see her secret crush. Of course, they’re both spectacularly and painfully pining. Each is convinced the other couldn’t possibly feel the same, so they cling to these brief, stolen moments like emotional lifelines. Pathetic, Joy thinks. Irresistible, Ford sighs. Delicious angst all around. But then—boom—one unexpected invitation sends this cozy mountain man romance careening in a completely different direction, and I sat up and took notice. I adore a classic mountain man trope, but this twist? Impossible to resist. Ford actually leaves his cabin to chase Joy to a New Year’s Eve masquerade party, and the setting alone adds a sharp, delicious bite. Masked and anonymous, they somehow still recognize each other… and once again, neither says a word. On one hand, I loved the secrecy and tension; on the other, I was practically begging them to rip those masks off and talk already. Still, that mystery cranks the spice level way up, complete with some light kink, dirty talk, and a few playful BDSM elements (nothing extreme, but very effective). Naturally, the course of true love doesn’t run smooth, and some misunderstandings need untangling before Joy and Ford can claim their well-earned happy ending. So, if you’re into possessive mountain men, a heroine who brings him to his knees, and just enough kink to keep things deliciously edgy, this one absolutely checks all the boxes. Ford still has nightmares and PTSD from serving in the military. he doesn’t believe that his little hot assistant, Joy, would ever be into being with him. He always helps his writer brother, Hunter, with his writing- like fight scenes and weaponry. Their convos are hilarious. Plus, Hunter, teases Ford a lot about Joy. Emma May worked hard to get the triplets back together in one home after they had been separated. Ford cutely freaks when he finds out that Joy is at the hospital, but she is there because her mother runs a Christmas Party there every year for charity. Joy has a crush on Ford and wonders whether he has feelings for her too. Joy’s sister, Holly, was supposed to come to the party to, but she is a no show, due to the storm. She ends up being stranded at a cabin where she falls in love with Hunter, yes, Ford’s brother. (Previous book) The third brother is Nate, who met a stranded woman, Callie, with her young son, Danny and got them to Montana, only for them to fall in love and marry and come back to Courage County.
Joy shows up a few days after Christmas to help with one of the security jobs for Ford. She got a Christmas present that is an invitation to a New Year’s party, a special one, and accidentally leaves it there. Ford sees it and comes up with a plan. I love that he finally admits his feelings and fights for her. Then things get super steamy and romantic and crazy after that. It hurts to see Joy not believe in her own beauty, but Ford, works on that with her. I was honestly shocked at Bobby’s reaction after the party and upon meeting Ford. Bobby was actually a really good friend to Joy. That part is crazy and hilarious and romantic. I loved how it ended.

I've loved Mia Brody's previous books for her green flag alphas and cozy domestic romance. This one is a significant pivot. It's not a criticism. It’s just different.
The “Mountain Man's Midnight Date” leans into red flag alpha dynamics: Ford follows Joy without her consent, threatens violence toward other men, and his possessiveness is framed as romantic rather than problematic. Ford’s red flag behavior never gets interrogated. His obsession and threats aren't something he recognizes as unhealthy, which means there's no growth arc there. But if you love obsessed, controlling heroes, you'll eat this up.
Ford's PTSD feels real and grounded, and the sexual chemistry is intense. If you specifically came here for a darker, kinkier love story, Brody delivers on that. The luxurious Club Crave setting brings in lite BDSM elements—submission language, power dynamics, voyeurism—that her earlier work didn't touch. Readers who want red flag alphas with satisfying dominance/submission dynamics and deeper BDSM integration might find the kink elements a bit surface-level. But readers who feel a bit timid about such things shouldn’t worry: Club Crave feels atmospheric but the actual power exchange dynamics are fairly vanilla within the scene itself.
If you loved “Her Cowboy Santa” for its warmth and green flags, this isn't that book. If you specifically search for "possessive alpha" and "obsessed hero" tags, this is worth your time. Just know you're getting a different Mia Brody than her earlier releases.

This heartwarming New Year's Eve romance by Mia Brody sparkles with charm and emotion. The grumpy mountain man boss, Ford, is determined to sweep his sweet assistant, Joy, off her feet before midnight strikes. Their story is an absolute delight from start to finish.
Ford is a deeply layered character, an online security consultant and a veteran who struggles with PTSD and survivor's guilt. His vulnerability and insecurities, especially around his combat scars, make him all the more relatable. Despite feeling he isn't good enough for Joy, he’s not going to allow any other man to kiss her at midnight. Joy, Ford's assistant, lights up the page with her warmth and optimism. She's fallen head over heels for Ford, believing he doesn't notice her, which adds sweet tension to their dynamic.
Joy Jolly brings festive cheer, working for Ford and coming from a family famous for their Christmas media. Her heartfelt longing and the way Ford adores her from afar make their relationship irresistibly romantic.
If you love angsty feelings, a jealous alpha and powerful chemistry, this novella delivers! Ford and Joy are perfect together—when they finally come together their connection is thrilling, and the passion between them is intense. Mia Brody has truly mastered the art of writing spicy, feel-good romance.
I highly recommend The Mountain Man’s Midnight Date to every romance fan. Mia Brody’s storytelling is outstanding, the emotions are authentically written, and the love between Ford and Joy is unforgettable. This novella is a must-read!.

Ford has a seriously severe thing for his assistant and he can't shake it. From his waking thought, she's there. She drops off paperwork to his cabin every week and being in self seclusion, he looks forward to their time together. Besides his writer brother picking his military brain for his books, she's the one he looks forward to talking to. She doesn't know it yet but she's his. Joy's not in her family's business and she's fine with that. She has her own career, working for her grumpy boss. He's so handsome though. Even though she's sure that she's not his type, sometimes his actions make her wonder. When her mother and she set off to find her lost sister, she realizes that not only is her sister's boyfriend her boss' brother but they live in the same town. Seeing the love his brother openly shows her sister, she starts to wonder if she's a fool waiting for Ford to show her that he feels anything for her. He's haunted by his past and doesn't want to scare Joy with his emotional and physical scars. But he can feel her growing distant from him and he can't let that happen. When she drops a private invitation to a New Years Eve party, he'll make sure that he's the one that she "meets up" with. Fireworks are gonna FLY as he shows her that she's all that he wants and he's all that she'll ever need. Grump/sunshine, both virgins who set their hearts on the line and set the pages on fire. Ford is former military. He has a security business and for the last six months he has had help from his much younger assistant, whom He is in love with. Ford is haunted by past military demons and feels as if he is too damaged and too old for Joy. He is a recluse and grump who has come to the fact that this is his life now. A life of solitude, but Joy makes him want more. Joy is all warmth, sunshine and brings happiness to everyone she meets. She is secretly in love with her grump of a boss but after six months he still has not indicated that he shares her feelings. When an opportunity comes for Joy to step out of her comfort zone, she feels like it’s time to move on. Ford finds out about her invitation to an adult playground and vows that he will be the only man touching her. What happens when the masks come off? This book was so enjoyable. Ford is so damaged and haunted by his past that he can’t see what is happening between him and Joy. He thinks he is too damaged for him but she is the only thing that quiets the nightmares. Joy is so sweet but heartbroken. She is lonely and thinks about Ford constantly, but thinks he has no interest. Expect secret pining, grump vs sunshine, emotional baggage, age gap off limit romance with dirty talk thrown in. It’s takes a while to get to the spice but when you do, it’s 🔥.

Ford (MMC) lives a secluded life in the mountains, grappling with post-traumatic stress disorder and survivor’s guilt. Alone in his isolated cabin, he works as an online security consultant. Ford struggles with intense feelings for his assistant but finds himself unable to move past them. His troubled history, both emotionally and physically, makes him hesitant to reveal his scars to Joy out of fear that he might frighten her. Joy (MFC), on the other hand, has chosen a different path from her family business and feels content pursuing her own career, even if it means reporting to her grumpy boss. Her regular visits to Ford are not just for work—they also give her the chance to see him, since she secretly admires him. As his ever-optimistic assistant, Joy stops by each week to collect important signatures for official documents.
After she drops an invitation to a New Year's Eve party, he ensures he's the one she meets. The mountain man romance takes a turn as Ford leaves his cabin to follow Joy to a masquerade celebration. Even behind their masks, they recognize each other but say nothing, which intensifies both the suspense and secrecy between them. The story grows more intriguing with a touch of mystery, playful kink, provocative dialogue, and hints of subtle BDSM.
This book explores themes of hidden love, family drama, PTSD, body image issues, and loneliness. It's a short but engaging read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Grief, Guilt, and a Midnight Worth Waiting For. This story hit much deeper than I expected, and I loved it for that.
Ford doesn’t avoid computers and cell phones as a joke or a gimmick—it’s rooted in trauma. After being injured by a bomb during his military service, he pulls back from the world, convinced he’s damaged goods and that Joy deserves better than what he has left to offer. That quiet guilt and self-denial made him feel painfully real.
Joy is pure heart. She’s patient, kind, and far stronger than she realizes. I loved how she never tries to force him, yet never makes herself smaller either. Her crush isn’t shallow—it’s built on understanding who Ford is beneath the gruff exterior.
The New Year’s Eve masquerade was the perfect emotional tipping point. Watching Ford finally confront the lie he tells himself—that he’s unworthy of love—was incredibly satisfying. When he chooses Joy, it’s not just possessive alpha energy, it’s healing, acceptance, and hope.
Tender, steamy, and surprisingly emotional, this was a beautiful reminder that broken doesn’t mean unlovable—and sometimes the bravest thing is letting yourself be chosen.

This is book four in the author’s Courage County Holidays and this one is centered around New Year’s Eve.
We FINALLY got Ford’s (one of Emma May’s adopted triplets, along with Nate—Her Cowboy Santa and Hunter—Mountain Man’s Christmas Elf) story and it feels like I’ve been waiting forever for him to finally realize Joy (Holly’s sister in Mountain Man’s Christmas Elf) was as in love with him as he was with her and it definitely did NOT disappoint!!
Who could’ve ever guessed that grumpy ol’ Ford had so much unrecognized s3x appeal, all that delicious dirty talk AND could rock a tux like nobody’s business?!! I think sweet little Joy Jolly must’ve had an inkling ‘cause she was sure wound tight enough to visit adults only, Club Crave, at the thought of never being his. You know how those clubs are, discretion is key so I can’t go into more detail, just know that Joy indeed, gets her jollies and Ford finally finds his forever.
I’ve sincerely loved every book in this series but I think this one is my favorite. It’s still got the sweet romance which this author is known for while bringing all the heat we CRAVE. It’s so deliciously hot, you’ve GOT to check it out!! 5 stars.

The Mountain Man's Midnight Date is another addition to the Courage County and features Ford and Joy. Ford is a triplet and we met his brothers Nate & Hunter in previous books. Joy is the sister to Holly, who falls for Hunter in another book. Ford may come off as this gruff and grumpy character but he suffers from PTSD and terrible nightmares as a result of his time in the military. He hides himself away from those he loves most because he doesn't want to burden them but he also doesn't feel like he deserves happiness. Joy feels like she has always fallen short to Holly's success and is destined to be lonely forever. Even though he has feelings for Ford, she can't imagine someone like him sharing those feelings.
Until Ford finds an invite to a very exclusive club that Joy dropped at his house. He realizes that this may be his only chance to have a piece of her. There are some masks, a king size bed and some new years eve magic at work. While their road to forever isn't the easiest path, love often times is not.
I am so glad all the brothers got their HEA's. Now can we please get the story about Emma May and that yellow sports car????
*The Mountain Man’s Midnight Date* is the fourth book in the *Courage County Holidays* series, and this time, it tells the story of Joy and Ford as they find their happily ever after. From the beginning, both Ford and Joy have had feelings for each other but have been hesitant to express them, thinking their feelings might be one-sided.
When Joy is invited to a private event at an adult club, she decides to go. However, when Ford finds out, he is determined that no one else will touch what he considers his. Hiding behind a mask, Ford seeks out Joy so they can finally make their secret desires a reality.
I thoroughly enjoyed the short and spicy instalove story of Ford and Joy. It reveals a new side to both characters as they explore their feelings and push each other out of their comfort zones. This journey also helps Ford reconnect with his brothers after years of isolating himself following his return from the military.
I love the *Courage County* series, and I can't wait to see what comes next!

The Mountain Man's Midnight Date by Mia Brody is the second story I've read by this author and it was an entertaining read. It was a short, holiday instalove romance with a well paced storyline and a bit of steam and spice that also delivered on the feels. Ford and Joy, the main characters had me engaged quickly. Ford, the grumpy mountain man, suffering from PTSD and survivors guilt from his past military career is besotted with his employee Joy but can't bring himself to tell her and believes he is not worthy of happiness and her love despite being crazy jealous that any other man could get close to Joy. Joy, sister to Holly from the previous book in this series, crushes on Ford but has her own issues feeling insecure about her self and lack of success in comparison to Holly and feels she is likely to be alone forever. An invitation to a New Year's masquerade event at has Joy hoping she can forget Ford for even a little while but Ford has other ideas and we see their chemistry sizzle in some steamy scenes. Circumstances play out and communication is key to some heart warming moments and a satisfying HEA.

The Mountain Man’s Midnight Date was such a fun, flirty New Year’s Eve read. Joy’s crush on her grumpy, mountain-man boss is painfully relatable—equal parts hopeful and hopeless—and Ford pretending he’s “computer illiterate” just to see her in person? That alone made me smile.
The masquerade setup adds a playful spark to their dynamic. Watching Joy step into confidence behind a mask while Ford finally stops holding back creates delicious tension without dragging things out. Their boss/assistant chemistry is full of longing looks, jealousy, and moments that feel charged even when nothing is being said out loud.
Ford is peak grumpy alpha—possessive, protective, and completely focused once he decides Joy is his. What makes it work is how sweet he is beneath the scowl, especially when it comes to making Joy feel wanted and chosen. The holiday timing gives everything that “fresh start” energy, making the emotional payoff at midnight especially satisfying.

This book is a bold shift from Mia Brody’s usual cozy, green-flag romances—and I mean that in a know-what-you’re-getting way. Ford is a damaged, former-military mountain man with serious possessive alpha energy, and Joy is pure sunshine, secretly pining for her grumpy boss. The grump-vs-sunshine dynamic, age gap, and secret longing pulled me in fast, and once the spice finally hits… wow, it hits 🔥 That said, this is very much a red-flag-alpha romance. Ford’s jealousy, control, and obsession are framed as romantic and aren’t really questioned, so readers looking for growth or softer heroes may struggle. But if you enjoy obsessed heroes, dirty talk, lite BDSM vibes, and emotionally haunted men who only soften for one woman, this will absolutely work for you. Final verdict: Darker, kinkier, and more possessive than Brody’s earlier books, but still emotional and addictive. 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — just be sure you’re in the mood for a red-flag mountain man before diving in.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ — growly boss, curvy sunshine, NYE chaos done right
This one hit just right for me.
Grumpy mountain man boss + curvy assistant who is down catastrophically bad? Yes please. Ford is peak “I’m pretending to be computer-illiterate because I crave weekly in-person yearning.” Sir, jail—but also, keep going.
Joy is relatable in that painfully real way: fully aware her crush is unhinged, absolutely powerless to stop it. The masquerade setup works perfectly because it lets her drop the insecurity for five minutes… and lets Ford go full possessive alpha without apology.
Is he jealous? Yes. Is he territorial? Extremely. Is he subtle? Not even a little.
And honestly? That’s the appeal.
Fast, steamy, ridiculous in the good way, with holiday vibes and just enough emotional payoff to make the instalove feel earned. Short, but it knows exactly what it is and doesn’t waste a single page.
Would’ve been a full 5 if it lingered a bit longer—but 4.5 stars, easy. 🎭🔥
I've been eagerly anticipating Joy and Ford's story ever since we met their siblings in *The Mountain Man's Christmas Elf*, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!
I'm such a fan of the boss/employee trope, and Ford and Joy's dynamic was just perfect. Their chemistry was off the charts!
I enjoyed Ford's possessiveness over Joy—he's so determined to make sure they're together. While she tries to act immune to his charm, you can see that she’s not fooling anyone, especially not Ford. His alpha side comes out strong, and he stops at nothing to show her just how much she means to him.
This book is part of the Courage County Holidays series, but can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone. If you're interested in Joy's sister and Ford's brother’s story, that one came out before this fantastic read!
I highly recommend checking it out!
5/5.

Ford is a reclusive mountain man who works in security consulting after he was injured in the military. He continues to suffer from nightmares and PTSD which is why he stays in his mountain home. Joy, his assistant, brings papers to him weekly to go over and sign. Neither of them realizes the attraction they have for the other. When Joy drops an invite for a NYE party at Club Crave, Ford decides that no one will have the woman he loves. Even with masks on, Ford is able to find Joy at the Club and spend time with her. When Joy realizes it is Ford, she runs out for home. As they finally admit their feelings and love for each other, this story brings Ford and his two brothers back together with their families in the end. Loved thr bonus epilogue!.

Joy is in love with her boss - grumpy mountain man Ford. He is also enamoured with her but with his nightmares and trauma from his military days thinks she would not want to be with someone like him. Joy, finally tired of waiting for Ford to return her feelings decides to use an exclusive invitation to a New Year masquerade at an adults only sex club. Ford finds out and goes there to claim her. This part of the story really threw me as a completely different style to Mia’s other books and felt out of place within this story. The non-communication annoyed me and although Ford knew it was Joy, she did not know immediately the masked man at the club was Ford. It seemed strange that to get over Ford she would randomly lose her virginity to a stranger in a sex club. It comes back on track by the end but not enough for me to love it. 2.5 rounded up.

This was full read with some lovely characters, some with familiar faces and I was pleased at that. The love is happening between a girl and her boss and the two are kind people. She is close to her family and so is he and I love that about the two of them. I was hoping for their story from the last book but don't worry, these can be read as a standalone.
She decides to try and get him out of her system and he follows her.
And to where shocked me, I didn't see that one coming! The good thing is that they ended up together. I love her protectiveness over her family and him talking with his brother over the phone hearing his ideas. So sweet and of course I wanted them happy and together. A warm read in the best county, one called Courage. A happy and positive place to live.

The Mountain Man’s Midnight Date is sooooo good! Sexy, sweet, heartbreaking, and heartful, this novella offers all the feels and the best HEA. I have been craving Ford’s story since he first appeared as a side character in this previous stories, and it does not disappoint. I love Joy for him, and he for her. Their hidden feelings are heartfelt and palpable. Joy’s personal revelations as the story progresses are heartbreaking and so relatable. Ford’s personal agony over his past traumas is real and shines a bright light on the struggles of so many veterans who lack the support to process what they experience. And the way the author brings them together? Sizzling and sexy!!! So many amazing moments in this story. I flew through it and I’ll definitely read it—and this series—again and again. Delicious!.

She has been crushing on her handsome boss for months. But it is complicated. She is certain he doesn’t see her that way, and he is reclusive never leaving his home. Which she doesn’t know as he has been watching her and waiting for his moment when he discovered she is about to make a reckless decision on New Year’s Eve. He decides it’s time to leave this comfort zone and claim his girl. This story is part of a series. The MMC is one of three triplet brothers. While each couples romance is its own stand alone, they do connect by family and certain situations. Well, it will certainly make more sense. If you read them in order, you can still enjoy the individual stories. If you choose not to. There is little bit of mutual pining , some spice and a happily ever after.

Joy works for Ford by delivering paperwork to him once a week. Little do either of them know that they are attracted to each other. When Joy receives an invitation to a masquerade party, she decides to go. Ford reads the invitation when she drops it and decides to attend as well. He approaches her and they spend the night together. Not taking their masks off, Ford knows it is Joy and Joy figures it out that it is Ford behind the mask. When he starts talking about the love of his life, she flees. Will they realize what happen and grow their relationship into something more serious?
