It's been two years since Kal was bound by the king and had his magical powers and memory suppressed.
But after a failed assassination attempt, the binding on Kal is removed, releasing him from its thrall. Access to his memories and magical abilities return, leaving him confused and in pain.
Assassins want him dead. His handler wants him to kill. The king is facing a strange illness, destabilizing the city. And mage-born youths are disappearing.
Can he find the children, discover who wants him dead, and protect the king on his terms? Or will he be forced to compromise his beliefs once more in the name of the crown?
Such an amazing book written by such a talented and amazing author! This book took me on such an adventure! The characters are well thought out and work so well together. I love the worldbuilding and the creatures and the magic system! I cannot wait for book two!
The world-building is vivid and thoughtfully crafted, so much detail to help visualize the world and characters. Seeing the story unfold through multiple main character perspectives added real depth to the narrative. A great read.
