Two years ago, I weakened and kissed her—the woman who demanded my attention, my obsession, and everything in between. Then my brother walked in with a brutal reminder of why I never should’ve succumbed.
Cutting her loose wasn’t enough. I had to treat her like my enemy.
I should’ve anticipated the rejection bruising her pride. But threatening my company? My family?
She has no idea what she’s done, and I can’t let the transgression go unpunished.
She calls it intimidation. Manipulation. Kidnapping.
To me, it’s a necessary course correction.
I’m more than the polished New York businessman she thinks I am. Hidden beneath the tailored suits and effortless boardroom control is a violent malevolence written into my DNA—the traits of an unwanted legacy from the lethal underworld I’ve distanced myself from since childhood.
And while some heirs acquire wealth and power, I’ve inherited something far more dangerous.
The ability to ruin Isla Cross.
And everything she cares about.
*** Author Heir of Ruin is an anti-hero romance featuring the powerful, morally grey Raffael Cavallo, a heroine caught in a legacy she never consented to, and a relationship built on destruction, obsession, and forced proximity. Expect captive undertones, touch-her-and-die energy, high-stakes power imbalance, and a romance that blurs the line between protection and possession.
Perfect. This is how it should be done. Writing style 🙌
I tried not to be too biased, but Eden Summers’ books, especially the latest ones in the Hunting her series are so good and I am glad she kept the same vibe for her new series. Her writing style is absolutely what I want. The way she describes feelings and raw emotions is incredible.
✅ office & mafia world ✅ strong, sassy heroine (but not a brat) ✅ blood debt 🩸 ✅OTT MMC ✅ kidnapping ✅ third-act breakup (still annoying as fuc**)
Raffael snapping “now” was hot as hell 🥵
Isla & Raffael’s chemistry was the best!! 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Be ready for some hot spice without weird kink or BDSM bulshit
But more than anything, the author respected her readers!! The MMC didn’t play games, no dumb lines like, “I’ve had hundreds of women…” No playboy energy.
He’s a one-woman man!!!
Okay, the third-act breakup and Isla going on a date were not my cup of tea, but Raffael’s obsession put everything back into place.
Heir of Ruin is the first book in Eden Summers’s The Cavallo Brothers Series, a spin-off from her Hunting Her Series. From the moment I began Raffael Cavallo’s story, I was immediately intrigued by his first encounter with Isla Cross. (The book was already starting spicy and intense between the two main characters because it was obvious their connection was clear, and I was curious why, in the beginning, Raffael reacted the way he did with Isla, and then they weren’t friends. I needed to know if these two were ultimately going to end up together, and they do, but there are going to be complications first that need to be worked out between the two, especially when Isla has no idea that her father and Raffael’s father made a deal that would end up costing her everything.
Raffael is an MMC, you’ll either love or hate. In my case, I adored him, even if he was harsh with Isla throughout the book. He’s always had feelings for the beautiful and confident Isla Cross, but in order to protect her from potential threats tied to his father and the family business, he has to become her enemy, pushing her away for her safety. Isla, meanwhile, is determined to assert her independence and protect her company when she becomes CEO of Cross Point Analytics, so she decides to cut ties with his company, The Cavallo Group. The issue is that she can’t cut ties; otherwise, it will put everything at risk, including her own safety, which is why Raffael is so adament of fixing the issue before it puts her at risk.
I friggin’ loved this book, and as I stated earlier, it was hard to put down. Even when I wasn’t reading, I found myself thinking about what would happen next, especially during the intense moments between Raffael and Isla as they struggled with their attraction, or whenever Isla’s friend and coworker Quinn challenged Raffael about her. I loved that Isla had someone at her back, even if Isla could handle her own. Quinn’s character definitely is someone readers should pay attention to because she ends up playing a key role later on. =)
I loved that two previous characters from the Hunting Her series show up in this book, but I didn’t like how they showed up. Raffael doesn’t even like them being there, but they play a key role in the situation with what happens when Isla decides to cut ties with the Cavallo Group. This is when Raffael becomes very protective of Isla when those two show up on his yacht.
The biggest twist in this book is when Isla is kidnapped, after Raffael thought she was fine, and he realizes who kidnapped her. He’ll do anything to get her back, even if it means becoming like his father to do it.
I loved learning about not only Raffael in this book, but his two brothers, too, who will get their own books. These two brothers are very different from Raffael, and I can’t wait to find out more about them. I also loved learning about Raffael’s sister, who shows up in this book, too.
The slow-burn romance between Raffael and Isla drove me crazy at times, but it was well worth it once the two realized their steamy connection. The ongoing suspense and danger, including threats from characters linked to Raffael’s father, keep the stakes high, which kept me reading the book.
Once again, Eden Summers gave me another engaging, suspenseful, and steamy read, and I rate it five stars. I’m eager for the next installment, especially with how things ended for one of the brothers. I definitely plan on rereading this book before the next book comes out because it deserves to be read more than one time.
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s the first book in the Cavallo Brothers series and I would recommend reading the books in order.
POV: Dual POV (First Person)
Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you enjoy high-stakes mafia romance, power imbalances, and the ‘touch her and die’ trope, you’ll enjoy Raffael and Isla’s story in Heir of Ruin.
What to Expect: 🖤Mafia Romance/Criminal Underworld 🖤Power Imbalance 🖤Forced Proximity 🖤Touch Her And I’ll ☠️ You 🖤Kidnapping/Captive Undertones 🖤AntiHero/Morally Grey
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
It is always a special treat when a novel by this author lands on my kindle, as I know that without a doubt I will completely devour the book. Heir of Ruin met all of my expectations and then some. Beautifully written, the author has created characters that are interesting and multi-layered. Told from a dual POV, this story moves at a great pace and kept me engaged from beginning to end. I especially enjoyed the moments of heart-pounding suspense as well as the romance between Isla and Raffael.
I adored Isla Cross. She is intelligent and tenacious. She also loves to push Raffael’s buttons. She is no wilting violet and is the kind of heroine that I love in romantic suspenses. As for Raffael Cavallo, what is not to love?! He’s a decisive ruler of the boardroom and in the bedroom too. With a commanding presence, this billionaire anti-hero is seduction wrapped in an aura of danger. People listen when he speaks, yet he has a soft spot, admiration, and obsession for Isla. The delicious tension between the two of them was tangible and I found myself eager to see just how their romantic journey would play out. The unraveling of devastating secrets is just one of the obstacles that stand in their way.
Heir of Ruin is the first novel in this author’s The Cavallo Brothers series. The book does not end on a cliffhanger, but the author does perfectly set up the next book in the series featuring one of the other Cavallo brothers! This book is the perfect read if you like dark romances, morally grey heroes, and strong heroines, all mixed with elements of suspense, intrigue, and steam
I read an early version of this manuscript. I voluntarily read this review and all thoughts/opinions are entirely my own.
I have been a fan of Eden and her books for years, so I try to keep these reviews as unbiased as possible because I am pretty sure I will read anything she writes and LOVE it.
Heir of Ruin follows Isla Cross, an ambitious, hardworking and straight-laced woman, dealing with the pressures of patriarchal corporate world while being the heir to her father’s consultancy firm. She has prided herself on her reputation and integrity for years, making her one of, if not THE best in the business, and prime candidate for CEO once her father retires.
Raffael Cavallo (who was mentioned in Eden’s last book, Salvatore) is CEO of a private equity empire and is a board room shark where even a single tap on the desk could be the start or end of a company acquisition.
A longtime partnership between families results in uncovered betrayals as past secrets are brought to light. Though a slow burn, the chemistry is on fire, banter is quick witted, and the push and pull between the two hooked me from the get-go. She’s the only one that can test him and survive, and he is the only one that can show her that there is some fun to be had in the “grey” area. I am so glad we get dual POVS because you can see both of their struggles with their head and heart. The amount of times I wanted to just say “shuttup and kiss already” was unmatched.
If you love –
She falls first, he falls harder
Slow burn
Kidnapping/captivity
Morally Grey Hero
Forced Proximity
A good “Fuck it” moment
The worlds most loyal best friend (Quinn, I am OBSESSED)
Then Heir of Ruin is for you.
Can’t wait to see what’s in store next with the Cavallo boys.
My favourite thing is to start a new series already knowing I am going to enjoy the read. Raphael Carvallo and Isla Cross are passionate, emotional and know what they want. While he may have the strength to destroy her, will her resilient nature force a change to his modus-operandi? Book one in a new series.
With the release of HEIR OF RUIN, Author Eden Summers has created a new family of dark romantic heroes for her readers to salivate over, myself included. We already have known their father as a truly awful manipulative and evil character from the Hunting Her series and what a twisted web she has woven together for The Cavallo Brothers.
Raffael Cavallo, eldest son of Lorenzo Cappelletti, a man who deservedly passed away in a violent altercation, unwillingly receives a legacy none of them wants;
“Hours dissolve in the burn of whiskey. Each swallow of the seventy-five-thousand-dollar bottle left by my father settles like battery acid in my gut as I wallow in the empire he dam(n)ed us with. His will has been a curse. The trust left to me and my brothers an inherited dynasty of power and corruption that I can’t risk anyone finding out about.”
Powerful words are what Ms Summers writes and I felt Raffael's pain as he worked to distance himself from the poisoned well left by their biological father that they wanted to deny, but impacted their presence nonetheless. The damage caused extended to affect a future Isla was never aware of was devastating, and my heart was broken for these truly star-crossed-lovers. Raffael was so good in hiding his true feelings of love for Isla that the cold hurt struck her to the bone. My heart broke for him because his yearning was sealed deep into his soul, he felt exposed and broken. Holy cow, the damage and deception left behind struck so deep, it infected every aspect of their lives. Even so, the man was romance personified;
“Perfino nel sonno hai potere su di me.” “Translate please.” I slide my hand over his, my teeth digging into my bottom lip as he kisses my shoulder. “Even in sleep you rule over me.”
And I cried when I found out about how he and his siblings came to be living with their adoptive parents. Such heavy emotion woven through words of devastation. He lived his life to deny his bloodline and follow instead the example of his adoptive father.
Isla Cross had work hard for the high reputation she carried within her family’s financial investment advice company that had work in partnership with the Cavallo group for years. She’d also known and had a close friendship with Raffael based on mutual trust, for many years and the chemistry between them only continued to ramp up. I loved the cheeky banter until a moment happened that turned everything on it’s head. The landscape was frozen between them and there was a distinct and unpleasant shift in the business movements of the Cavallo group that Isla no longer wanted her family company to be a part of.
That was when Isla discovered just how badly Raffael’s family legacy affected him and his brothers, and worse, her’s was woven and twisted within it so tightly, her future looked rather bleak. Raffael had tried to shield her from it, but unknowingly, her stubborn adherence to her moral standards had her sinking faster into the quicksand of dangerous deceit.
The transition of Raffael and Isla’s relationship was beautifully and very romantically written. The chemistry between them was outstanding and it ramped when Raffael finally showcased his extreme possessive side. Just perfect!
Two past heroes from Ms Eden's very much applauded Hunting Her series made cameo appearances, but alas, they were there to intimidate Isla and force Raffael’s hand, and after seeing them overprotective of their own women, they very much lost their shine in my view. I had adored them as morally grey romantic characters and now I was disappointed in them to say the least. Even though there were mitigating circumstances, I was still sad to see their involvement.☹️
I also have to say I am looking forward to the next book in the Cavallo Brothers series though. Isla's pitbull best friend is seeking retribution on Isla's behalf. She’s a loose unit, next level cray-cray and I reckon everyone needs a friend like her in their corner. I loved her. And, if anyone can bring a disreputed character into favour and shoe-horn a romance out of the two enemies eyeballing each other with mal-intent, it will be Ms Summers and I can't wait! 👀👀👀
4.5stars-HEIR OF RUIN is the first instalment in Eden Summers’ contemporary, adult THE CAVALLO BROTHERS dark, erotic, romance series, set in the author’s HUNTING HER world. This is billionaire Raffael Cavallo, and interim CEO of CrossPoint Analytics consultancy Isla Cross’s story line. The Cavello family was first introduced in the author’s SALVATORE, book eleven in the Hunter Her series.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Raffael and Isla) HEIR OF RUIN follows in the wake of Isla Cross’ determination to separate CrossPoint Analytics from the Cavallo Group but Isla has open a proverbial Pandora’s Box, and the fall-out finds our heroine a virtual and physical prisoner of the man she had hoped to take down. Unaware of the factors surrounding the partnership between the Cavallo Group and CrossPoint Analytics, Isla has set into motion a path of destruction, one from which Raffael may not be able to save our story line heroine.
The world building pulls the reader into the darker side of big business, the criminal underworld, and contracts signed in blood. As Isla is pulled into the depths of what was and what will be, Raffael Cavallo is determined to keep his distance, yet continuing to control every aspect of her life. From the towers of big business to the open waters of the sea, Isla and Raffael circle one another until another player threatens everyone involved.
The relationship between Raffael and Isla begins as business partners who circle one another with their sexual attraction but two years will pass, and Raffael is a changed man, a man who is determined to take back the destruction Isla was hoping to impart. Raffael is determined to keep his distance but it will take Isla longer to realize the love she has for Raffael, will never be returned. The $ex scenes are provocative and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of questionable, powerful and determined secondary and supporting characters including the return of Bishop Cappelletti and Matthew Langston (Hunting Her). We are introduced to CrossPoint senior analyst Quinn Marlow; Isla’s father Phillip Cross, as well as Raffael’s brothers Eliseo and Miko, and their sister Aurelia.
HEIR OF RUIN is a dark story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, big business and contracts, dysfunctional family and issues of trust, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is dark, dramatic, edgy and thought provoking; the romance is limited and unconventional; the characters are desperate, charismatic, and impassioned.
I really like a lot of Eden Summers books. But this one does not live up to potential. TLDR: boring, and not sexy or adventurous.
In the first place, these guys seemed really hot when they were introduced at the end of Salvatore's book, and you are left wondering how they might be as, if not even more intimidating than the Baltimore boys and still be romance redeemable. But those guys disappeared and were replaced with some kind of depressed cinnamon role rich boys. They are mafia adjacent from NYC! They are not supposed to be pussies. Really disappointing execution of the teaser dropped in Salvatore. The usual colorful personalities and hilarious dialogue in ES books was completely absent.
I had to skim a lot of this so I will be brief. I don't like this weak trope where they both are already in love with each other for years but resisting for some dumb reason. (and it's always a dumb reason) It deflates a lot of tension and there's nothing to build up. Then, and once again, ladies, stop trying to make Hallmark heroes out of mafia men. I think this demand for PC correctness is at the root of a lot of romance plotting problems today.
Sex was insufficient, once again ( second book in a row that I have read and part of a disturbing general trend) especially given the characters and world, and I found much of the plot confusing and / or poorly set up.
Speaking of plot - Bishop and Matthew make an appearance but wtf? We already know they are not assholes so the role they play in this book does not make sense. They also make what's his face in the book look like a pansy, which is a reversal of the character we met in Salvatore. Because of why B and M are in this story, what's his name - the hero looks weak because we know he's afraid of guys he does not need to fear. The danger is fake. There is no real problem or bad guy in this book, every possible tension turns out to be a fake out. And based on the characters we met in the end of Salvatore I did not expect this guy to be pushed around at all- let alone so easily - and inexplicably - by B and M.
I was also confused because the main problem that the plot of this book revolves around seemed retro-fitted given the plot of Salvatore and that whole series.
Also - the heroine is another one from the doormat factory who does not live up to her stated bad ass bitch qualities. Her friend was cool and that book has great potential for ES to turn this ship around and deliver the goods again. It's sounding like it will be similar to a reverse Mafia Madman by Mia Finelli. Please be good please be good please be good.....
Heir of Ruin: An Anti-Hero Romance (The Cavallo Brothers) by Eden Summers
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you love Mafia books you need to read Author Eden Summers Mafia stories. She will never leave you hanging, she is going to pull you into the story and you won’t be able to close that book! Her mafia books are addictive.
Her hardcore readers met the Cavallo family in her last book, Salvatore. Readers got a look at who they were and how would they fit in this mob world of hers. The oldest brother in Raffael, runs the Cavello Group (a private equity empire) but things have changed. Not a huge one but still, they have had to learn how to adapt to changes that have been caused by their father, these changes were not ones they had ever thought they would be making, but, a death, a change in hiearchy and a woman has changed his life.
Besides Raffael, he has two brothers Michelo and Eliseo…Michelo learning what is changing in their family…Eliseo is….not someone you want to run into on a dark night. They also have a sister Aurelia, she is the youngest and the brothers are keeping the “Bad” part of the business away from her.
Where there is a hot, handsome, Italian mafia man, there usually is a woman, in this case it’s Isla Cross…her family company works with the Cavallo Group. Cross Point Analytics….for years has worked with the Cavello Group. She’s smart, she’s beautiful and she opened her mouth when she shouldn’t have.
Once they were both attracted to each other, now Raffael is trying to keep her safe, oh did I mention she has no idea how much she needs him..to..protect..her! Heir of Ruin is chaco-o-block filled with lies, mob hierarchy, prevarication and deception. The story has a solid storyline and we are able to see character growth and when the worst occurs you may throw your e-reader when you find out who the dangerous one was!
The pages flew by and I could not put this book down! Five gold stars and many fingers crossed that the next book in this series doesn’t keep us waiting to long!

This is the first book in the Cavallo Brothers series; it follows Raffael Cavallo and Isla Cross. It is an explosive one that takes readers on an emotionally charged journey trying to navigate between the present that’s intertwined with issues from the past.
Raffael comes across as an arrogant, self-centred man but as time goes on and things unravel we see a very different side of him. He is commanding but also very protective of those important to him. Isla is a hardworking young woman who has high morals and has confronted the ‘boys club’ mentality her whole working life. She is intelligent, ambitious, and not afraid to push back when provoked. Both lead characters have layers upon layers that are extremely interesting when exposed, especially Raffael. Both feel the incinerating chemistry between them.
Having known Raffael for years, Isla is shocked, and totally justified in her disappointment in him, when he does a one-eighty at work and thus her moral standards are shown with her indignation. Alas, this is just the start of her problems as an intense situation between both companies and leaders heats up. At times, I was unsure how poor Isla was going to survive.
Told from both lead characters' points of view readers gain a more in-depth insight into each character. I feel it’s important to give special mention to Isla’s best friend, Quinn. What a pip she is, I absolutely love her character. I look forward to reading the next book with her as a leading character.
I've been waiting for this book for a year and it exceeded my expectations tenfold!
If you've read the Hunting Her series, you absolutely NEED to read this book. Scratch that... If you've not read the Hunting Her series yet, you NEED to read this book!
Tropes: Friends to enemies, touch her and die, good girl - bad boy. Dual POV, first person.
This story follows Isla (our FMC) who proudly works at her father's company. She has a strong moral compass and is sometimes a little petty. Following her fathers ill health, she is promoted to a position that she has coveted for many years; the first female (interim) CEO in the companies history. Desperate to make her mark, she identifies business patterns that she is eager to challenge...
Small problem, the business patterns she identifies are being controlled by and owned by her old friend/crush/enemy, Rafael (and his brothers).
...And what begins as a real moment for Isla to prove her worth, turns into pure sink or swim; survival.
I enjoyed Isla from start to finish, she is tough in business, moral and stubborn... TO.THE.BONE. Each chapter is written so well by Eden Summers that I felt like a real fly on the wall in this story.
Rafael was everything I wanted him to be from the small introduction we had within Salvatore. He is strong, controlled (most of the time) and he isn't afraid to challenge the status quo.
Also, can we have a moment for THE Mathew Langston & Bishop... *claps* Eden Summers, how do you do it!? The web you have woven between all of these stories, starting with the hunting her universe and now with the Cavallo brothers is nothing short of amazing and I can not wait for whatever comes next!
Note: It adds depth if you've read the previous series as we have a cross over that is *chefs kiss*.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
GOLD!!! HEIR OF RUIN, The Cavallo Brothers #1, was absolute perfection
Eden Summers has once again shown why she is an automatic read when it comes to mafia stories. She excels at them. Her Hunting Universe is dark, deadly, and delicious, and with the addition of the Cavallo brothers it has become even more addictive.
Rafael Cavallo. OH. MY. GOD. This man! He's dangerous, controlling, ruthless, and protective. His words, especially when uttered in Italian, woud melt any woman's heart and panties. Family always comes first, well it was supposed to, yet one woman and one kiss changed everything. Isla Cross. She's fiesty, intelligent, tenacious, ambitious, and not afraid to voice her opinions. She's always had to battle against the mysoginistic attitudes in her worklife, yet it hasn't deterred her from her goals.
Raffael and Isla were perfectly matched. Their chemistry was scintillating, the emotions ran deep the tension was thick and heavy, sand their inevitable spice was volcanic. They were complicated characters with numerous layers, watching them being peeled back was so satisfying. I loved the push and pull, the back and forth banter, and their strong need to do what was right. Raffael felt the need to constantly protect Isla, while she fought to maintain the morals she believed in.
Danger lurks around every corner, and Raffael''s determination to protect Isla somehow makes their situation even more intense. Will he be able to protect her from the darkness that surrounds him?
I cannot praise this book highly enough. The drama, emotions, character dynamics, and suspense pulled me into a story I couldn't put down. Eden Summers' writing was flawless. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
Heir of Ruin brings us back into the Hunting Her World with a brand-new spin off featuring The Cavallo Brothers, as we follow Raffael’s dive into the darker side of his family’s questionable affairs and dealings. We first met Raffael and his brothers very briefly at the end of Salvatore’s book and Eden has started this New York family’s legacy with a cracker of a read. The story is set up so well with the beginning chapters, taking the reader straight into the opulent world of big money, big business and family secrets that will drive a wedge between our MMC Raffael and the FMC Isla Cross right off the bat. Not only are they business associates, but they also have a connection, one that wants and needs to be explored, unfortunately, that doesn’t happen without a great deal of tension and heartache. Unbeknownst to Isla, she is a pawn in the background of her Father and Raffael’s family business dealings, but once these facts come to light, this lady is not giving in or giving up. She fights! The combative nature of the relationship between Isla and Raffael lends to a volatile, explosive, and sexually charged atmosphere that is inherent throughout the story. Their romance is raw, gritty and so appealing to the senses. There are always certain aspects of a good read that you know Eden Summers will provide with her stories, and Heir of Ruin doesn’t disappoint. We have morally grey/dark familial backgrounds; obsessive men who wreak havoc on the FMC; snarky banter and outright laugh out loud moments; wonderfully amusing, ride or die friendships; all rolled up into a storyline that is believable and downright entertaining. I loved delving back into this world and I will tell you; she has set up the next book in the series so magnificently, I cannot wait to read more. A 5 Star read for me!

This book is everything I was hoping for and so much more. Wow Raffael Cavallo is sin wrapped in a suit. Isla Cross is strong and a powerful force in the world her company moves in. These two have been teetering on the edge of attraction for so long, then one call from Raffael's brother changes everything. Raffael puts distance between them in order to protect Isla from secrets and betrayal she shouldn't have to deal with until Isla makes a statement in public that threatens to bring the world crashing down on her and the company she and her Father have worked so hard to build. The distance Raffael thought would keep Isla safe is no longer an option as Isla begins to have her eyes opened in ways she never imagined. This is an amazing read. The Cavello brothers are dark and Raffael quietly dangerous. Isla finds herself wrapped in secrets and lies and a betrayal she would never have seen coming, unaware of the full story of why she and Rafael have become such mortal enemies. Raffael realises she is still everything he ever wanted and will bring down fire and rain to protect her, if only she can see that behind what she sees as his betrayal, lies a need that he can no longer ignore. This book will grab you at page one and not let go, our hero will melt your bones, Isla proves time and again she is no pushover and wait until you meet Quinn a storm in designer suits. There are a couple of very welcome returns from characters we met in the Hunting Her series. That said you don't need to have read the series but I guarantee you will want to when you are done with Raffael and Isla.
Ever come out of a series that was so good it leaves you with a book hangover. . . waiting for the next story to grab you and pull you in? This. Is. That. Book.
Isla is the heir to her father's company who has recently stepped down.... well, needed a break for his health. She's shadowed him for years, is smart, confident, and ready to take the bull by the horns. Only, there are secrets closeted she has no idea exist and gets a crash course in reality. And her assistant, Quinn. . . best friend EVER! Loved her!
Rafael is alluring, once you sand down the rough edges and his idea of protecting her is staying away. Until he can't. If I was there, I would have given him a shove on the shoulder to go to her. Amazing character traits, toe-curling inner thoughts, and a second kiss worth waiting for.
P.S. If you haven't read the HUNTING HER series, I certainly would recommend. Two characters make a cameo appearance in this story. But if you haven't read them, that's fine. It's just nice knowing more background to other characters.
Lastly, buy the book!!!! If I didn't have other obligations (like laundry & dinner) I would have clawed my way through this book in one sitting. It's that good. Oh, and just when you think you know what's going on. . . wrong! I had to sneak in chapters throughout the day because I couldn't wait until my morning reading time. Outstanding..........sooooooooooo looking forward to the next book. I was gifted with an ARC and was anxious to post my thoughts.
Heir of Ruin is a heart-pounding, emotional, and seductive love story! I completely devoured this story about power, obsession, and passion! Isla and Rafael have become close friends since their father's companies worked so closely together. They soon begin working closely as well and their attraction grows with their respect for each other in the boardroom. Just when they were finally going to act on their fiery chemistry, they were interupted, causing Rafael to completely shut down, breaking Isla's heart. Now years later, Isla is taking over her father's business, and her first action changes everything, putting her life in danger. Rafael thought he was protecting her by pushing her away before. Now he must reveal the secrets that turned her world on it's axis. The betrayal she feels will not break her though, and she will not give in easily to the contracts made by others. Rafael is powerless to keep his distance and his italian charm wins her over, giving in to their shared desires. But when others are sent to enforce past agreements, Rafael will need to give in to the savagery of his heritage to save her and finely make her his. I love Isla and Rafael together. They challenged each other, their witty banter is their foreplay leading to a passion that is fiery and explosive. I really liked Isla's fiercely loyal best friend, Quinn. She was so great, and I can't wait for her story next. I was fully absorbed in this breathtaking and steamy romance. What a great start to the new Cavallo Brother's series!
There's a particular kind of bliss in cracking open a book that knows exactly what it is, and Heir of Ruin from Eden Summers is precisely that - glossy, unapologetic, and dripping with menace from the very first word. Let me be clear though, if you're a sucker for morally grey heroes, a genuinely slow burn, and possessive Italian men who'd cheerfully bury a body at the bottom of the ocean for you (guilty, guilty, and guilty), this one's for you. If not, you might need to buckle up, because Raffael Cavallo is a lot. Think "man who weaponises a clicking pen in a boardroom" meets Isla Cross - the one woman alive sharp enough to call his bluff and survive the fallout. There is so much to like here. The chemistry between Isla and Raffael simmers for chapters before it ever boils, and the wait is the whole reward; Isla is no doormat - she's clever, capable, and refuses to shrink even as the Cavallo world closes in; and there is one twist in particular that had me say I so did not see that coming. However, in saying that, the captivity thread and the seriously flexible morals mean this leans firmly dark rather than sweet, so go in knowing what you've signed up for. If you're after something to devour in one sitting while indulging your inner romantic drama queen, this is a cracking pick. Eden Summers writes morally questionable men doing morally questionable things better than just about anyone, and Heir of Ruin launches the Cavallo Brothers series with a bang. I highly recommend this book and this author! Bring on Eliseo and Quinn - I'm already counting down to Caged Heir!
Heir of Ruin gave me exactly what I came for: obsession, danger, and a level of tension between Raffael and Isla that could snap steel. These two don’t just clash—they detonate. Every scene between them feels like a live wire, humming with all the things they refuse to say but absolutely feel.
Raffael Cavallo is the kind of morally grey anti‑hero who walks into a room and instantly owns the oxygen. Polished businessman on the surface, pure inherited darkness underneath. And Isla? She’s the one woman who can match him hit for hit, pride for pride, fire for fire. Their history is messy, their chemistry is volatile, and the moment their paths collide again, it’s like watching two storms circle each other, waiting for the inevitable strike.
The forced proximity, the power plays, the push‑pull that borders on obsession—it all worked for me. The tension is off the charts, the kind that makes you hold your breath because you know the second they finally give in, it’s going to be explosive. And it is.
What I loved most is how the book leans into that razor‑thin line between protection and possession. Raffael’s intensity is dangerous, magnetic, and impossible to look away from, while Isla refuses to be a pawn in anyone’s legacy—not even his. Their dynamic is destructive, addictive, and so full of heat that every chapter feels like it’s daring you to look away.
If you love morally grey men, heroines who refuse to break, and tension so thick you could carve your name into it, this one delivers.
After getting a sneak peek of the Cavallo brothers at the end of Salvatore, I couldn’t wait to dive into the chaos of this family and Raffael’s book. And in true Eden Summers fashion, Raffael and Isla definitely didn’t disappoint - I loved them. Isla was such a kick‐a**, strong-headed character, while Raffael was the perfect dark, moody, intimidating match for her.
The tension, danger, and intensity between them kept me completely hooked, and the deeper I got into the Cavallo world, the harder it was to put this book down. Eden has such a way of creating morally grey characters and messy family dynamics that pull you straight into the drama.
I’m so happy we got to see appearances from characters in Eden’s Hunting Her series too. I loved those little moments because even though they were brief, they still had an impact on the story, and now I’m really hoping we get even more appearances from them in the upcoming books.
I will admit that Isla did annoy me a little towards the end of the book until she finally came around. I understood why she reacted the way she did, but there were definitely moments where I just wanted her to stop fighting what was right in front of her already. The push and pull between her and Raffael became a little frustrating during those times - but in a way that kept me fully invested because I needed to see how it would all unfold.
Between the chaos, the chemistry, and the constant tension, Heir of Ruin delivered.
Heir of Ruin is an emotional, addictive, and sizzling romance that completely pulled me in from the very first chapter. Packed with danger, secrets, betrayal, and explosive chemistry, this was impossible to put down.
Years after Rafael shattered Isla’s heart by pushing her away without explanation, their worlds collide again when Isla takes over her father’s company. One bold business decision changes everything and suddenly places her in serious danger. Rafael has spent years believing distance was the only way to protect her, but the secrets he’s been hiding are finally ready to surface and they threaten to destroy everything Isla thought she knew.
Growing up, Isla and Rafael were always close because of their fathers’ business connections, and their friendship slowly evolved into something much deeper. Working side by side only intensified the attraction between them, with their mutual respect turning into undeniable passion. Even years apart, the tension between them never faded.
I absolutely loved the dynamic between Isla and Rafael. Their witty banter, constant push and pull, and emotional intensity made every scene between them captivating. Rafael’s protective nature and effortless Italian charm made him impossible not to love, while Isla’s strength, resilience, and refusal to back down made her such a fantastic heroine.
Quinn was another standout character for me. Her fierce loyalty and personality lit up every chapter she appeared in, and I’m already looking forward to reading her story.
This was a breathtakingly steamy and emotionally charged start to the Cavallo Brothers series, and I cannot wait for the next book.
Isla couldn’t believe it finally Raffael was showing that he felt what she had been feeling forever. Then suddenly as it started it stopped and he distanced himself from her for no reason. Forwarding years – Isla’s father becomes ill and she becomes the CEO something she has always wanted. Deciding with how the Cavallo’s have been doing business she decides to cut ties, very publicly although doesn’t name them. What Isla didn’t expect was to be basically kidnapped and find out the secrets that had been kept including a blood oath. All Isla knows is Raffael is trying to scare to her make a new statement, to ensure that everyone knows the companies are working together, but his actions aren’t making sense, her favourite foods, ensuring she’s comfortable, risking his life for her. However, he keeps denying it. When Raffaels’ cousins show up Isla realises she hasn’t got much choice, even with Raffael telling them everything is alright they don’t believe it. Finally deciding to give the statement is the only way, after Raffael lets her go still denying his feelings she knows he has. She’s felt it, he’s showed it he just won’t admit it. When Raffael hears that Isla is missing everything is done, he will bring the world down to get to her and he’s going to make sure she knows exactly how he feels but is he too late.
Since Isla's continued advising of The Cavallo Group, especially one Raffael Cavallo, she's learned to be professional and personable, especially with the latter. Raffael is the golden child of the private equity group that bears his family name. Isla is sole heir to CrossPoint Analytics and can hold her own in business with men like Raffael, even with what happened years ago. When Isla becomes CEO, she decides some changes are in order, starting with The Cavallo Group. With secrets never meant to see the light and feelings that were never acted upon are revealed, Isla realizes she is in over her head and needs answers. Isla soon learns that when a deal with the devil has been made, no matter how handsome and charming, there will be a price to pay. Betrayal cuts deep, especially when the betrayer is not the man you'd expect, the one who actually becomes your savior.
I devoured this book!!! Raffael is a man who knows what he wants and how to get it. He rules the boardroom and protects what's his. He's powerful and sexy and over the years, Isla has become his obsession. Isla is also powerful in business as well as capable, strong and most definitely not a pushover. She has no problem going toe to toe with Raffael. I'm addicted to the Cavallo brothers as well as Isla's bff Quinn. She's definitely a b@4@$$!!! I can't wait for more!!! An absolute must read!!!
Outstanding!!! Finished it in a few hours!! Raffael was so so good! Hot intense n so so protective of Isla. N their chemistry was volcanic! Awesome! The way he cared for her from the start was so romantic! The smex was the spiciest!! The twists and turns kept me at the edge of my seat! I just couldn't put the book down! I actually believed Raffa when he tells Isla that she was his la mia rovina!! Those Italian phrases were hot.. though I had to Google it immediately as I dont know the language and couldn't wait to know its meaning!!! The language is so romantic!!
The side characters were equally good. Especially Quinn .. I want a bestie like her.. the way she loved Isla and did all the things for her safety were jaw dropping and equally funny!!! And Eli!!!! Omg.. he definitely felt like a book character from the beginning and I was so glad to see his book is next.. Caged Heir!!! An apt name.. heheheheh.. cant give away more... but I am so glad that he has met his match .. cant wait to read his book..
I also loved the two cousins of Raffa!! Matthew n Bishop!! Though initially they were scary n all, but by the end, and due to what Raffa did, I loved them...
Overall I had a wonderful time reading the book. Its a 5 star read.. enjoyed it a lot..
After getting a little glimpse of the Cavallo brothers previously, I could not wait to dive into Raffael’s story—and honestly, this book did not disappoint 👀
Raffael and Isla had SO much tension, danger, and intensity between them that I was hooked from the start. Isla was such a strong-headed FMC, and Raffael was the perfect dark, moody, intimidating match for her.
Eden Summers really knows how to write morally grey characters and messy family dynamics in a way that completely pulls you into the chaos.
The push and pull between Raffael and Isla definitely had me frustrated at times, especially towards the end, but it also kept me fully invested because I needed to know how everything would unfold between them 😮💨
I also loved getting little appearances from characters connected to Eden’s other books. Those moments were small but added so much to the overall world and honestly just made me even more excited for the upcoming books. The darker undertones throughout this story mixed with the obsession, manipulation, chemistry, and emotional tension made this such an addictive read.
If you love morally grey anti-heroes, obsessive MMCs, dangerous family dynamics, forced proximity, and dark romances full of chaos and tension, definitely add this one to your TBR 🖤
You can never go wrong with Eden Summers' writing style, and this book was no exception. I loved that it wasn't just mafia romance, it felt more like an office rivalry/corporate setting romance with mafia elements lurking in the background, which made it even more interesting.
I'll be honest, I absolutely hated Raffael at first. The way he treated Isla had me ready to fight him. But as the story unfolded, his actions started making more sense, and he redeemed himself surprisingly well. Once this man accepts his feelings, he's all in devoted, protective, obsessed, and willing to do whatever it takes for Isla. He also had a way with words that completely won me over by the end.
Isla was fantastic. Strong, bold, ambitious, and capable of holding her own in almost every situation. My only complaint is that when it came to Raffael, she folded a little too easily for my liking. Considering everything he put her through, I wanted her to make him suffer more. To be fair, she did make him grovel somewhat, so I'll take it.
And can we talk about Quinn? I adored her. Every scene she was in made the book better. Overall, this was a gripping mix of tension, power plays, obsession, and romance with a hero who had to work hard to earn his redemption.
More angst, more passion, more of everything than one review can possibly show!
A perfectly woven dark, billionaire romance that checks all the right boxes. The passion between Raffael Cavallo and Isla Cross starts as a smolder and burns hotter and hotter with each page turn. The passion shifts from mutual attraction to sheer hatred to pure flame.
They’ve been a part of each other’s world for a long time. Each feeling the sexual tension in the midst of the years of business partnership. Their worlds start to collide into intimacy when everything crashes. An invisible wedge slams everything to a halt. When Isla makes a decision that alters both of their worlds, Raffael makes sure she’ll regret it.
Eden has a knack for making the devil the one you want most and the creating strong female characters to test their limits. Raffael is that beautifully, intimidating devil. Isla Cross is a perfectly crafted bad ass who goes toe to toe with that devil.
A definite five stars for both print and audio!
Samantha Brentmoor and Gideon Frost are the perfect Isla and Raffael. Gideon gives the perfect level of tension and passion as Raffael. Samantha brings both the strong and soft sides of Isla off the page for us to feel all her feels. Both performances top shelf!
you've got to really look past all the arc reviews and 4 & 5 star ratings.. I couldn't finish this, skimmed, skipped to see how it ended but should have dnf'd completely.. the writing is... odd, wordy, convoluted, parts feel like chat gpt wrote it, its glaringly obvious in some areas and I could not get into it at all. the premise was interesting but the fmc gave me second hand embarrassment, too old to act like this and not only that but I hate, hate when the fmc doesn't date, embarrassing herself by being so needy, just so desperate it was off putting , she was practically screaming desperate from the roof tops. ugh the eye-rolling I did at how much second hand embarrassment I felt reading the fmc pov.. the author made her out to be a stronge, smart independent woman, tried to at least but the fmc is basically reduced to desperate and suffers from body betraying syndrome, it was nauseating. and the mmc is - I don't even know how to describe him, its weird, I did not like him, too cold, too arrogrant, it really is the fault of the writing and what the author was attempting to do.... some of the usual cliches, overused tropes. life is too short to read badly written books.
I know I say this a lot but one of my favourite things to read in a book is banter. It can be between the MCs, the MC and side characters, anyone really. If there is amazing banter then it instantly makes a book more enjoyable for me and Eden Summers has always delivered top tier banter and Heir of Ruin was no exception.
Isla and Raffael are both determined to get their own way and willing to do whatever is necessary to succeed (do I have King Julian on repeat in my head as I write this... Maybe... No one will be sucking seed 😂😂😂).
Secrets and betrayals are revealed leading to a fallout that has repercussions that leaves everyone reeling.
Despite everything that happens you always have the feeling that Raffael wants to protect Isla and his love of her is something that I never questioned.
While more morally grey and than dark Heir of Ruin still ticks all the boxes I look for in a dark romance - forced proximity, enemies to lovers, with a little blackmail thrown in the mix.
I binged this book in one day because once I'd started I didn't want to stop.
