Marrying the love of your life feels like a dream—until you realize you're only the understudy in his heart.
When Evangeline Worwick’s doctor confirms her pregnancy, she sees it as the blessing that will finally cement her fragile marriage to Daven, the powerful CEO she loves. She plans a perfect evening to share the joyful news, believing this child will make him see her as more than just the woman he settled for.
But on the very night she prepares to tell him, Daven receives a call and walks out without explanation. The next morning, the headlines tell the real Daven was photographed at the airport, his arm wrapped protectively around his first love—glamorous actress Marizza Lancaster, the woman who once left him at the altar and now has returned to London.
As whispers fill Daven’s office and the world speculates about a rekindled celebrity romance, Evangeline is forced to face painful truths. She is not only his secret wife and assistant but also, in the eyes of everyone—including Daven’s closest friends—nothing more than a convenient replacement, destined to be cast aside now that the star has returned.
In a world where her marriage is a secret and her pregnancy a complication, Evangeline must Will she remain in the shadows of another woman’s love story, or will she finally step into the light and rewrite her own?
Not bad but not spectacular, so a solid three stars.
There are several characters that play into this plot. Evangeline is the FMC, and secretly married to Daven. He has a brother named Blake who is friends with Evangeline. Daven had a first love who is named Marizza, who stood him up at the altar. She’s supposedly an actress.
Eva has been to the doctor and finds out she’s pregnant. But on that same night, Marizza returns after being gone for two years, and she calls Daven to pick her up from the airport. Daven doesn’t come home…
And then Blake and Marizza devise a plan to get rid of Eva, because Marizza wants Daven and Blake wants Eva. So Blake betrays their friendship and lies to his brother. Divorce!
And it goes on and on…
It’s an okay read but nothing special. And it’s relatively short. The writer is not really experienced, in my opinion. The dialogue is not really natural. Not a keeper.
Goodbye Daven is well written but a bit cliche'. The premise has been done lots. Husband treats wife like trash, divorces, few years later finds ex wife and kids, and ex wife happily ignores what he did in the past and all is forgiven.
There are a few sides that makes it an OK read. If you like this type of plot, you'll probably like this one. You might get tired of the overuse of "doll" and "my love" though.
I night this book based off of the premise. I didn’t expect the most well written book ever, but it was still disappointing. Characters would think something and then contradict that thought not even a full page later (such as when Evangeline said that she hadn’t known her boss had a son, only to say a few paragraphs down “I’d be lying if I said we didn’t know each other, given the incredible friendship between our parents”). The obvious lack of care and overall attention paid to editing was a huge turn off. I didn’t mind that the story itself was silly, but the author didn’t respect the audience enough to present a good product, and that annoys me. I’m sorry I bought this book.
I loved this book. It was such a good read. The little twins just made my day when reading about them. I am glad Daven got his head out of but and learned from his mistakes. I was very disappointed in Blake, but also understood him. He just went about everything the wrong way. He should have had a conversation with Eva and told her how he felt. I’m just glad everyone learned from their mistakes and was stronger at the end. One of my favorite reads so far.
This could have been a really good story in fact it could be used on literacy exams spot the errors in sentences and paragraphs and consistency does nobody proof read their work any more even written by ai surely you should read it before setting it down to sell still I was daft enough to buy it in sure others will be as well
This was a good second chance romance. What do you do when you believe the lies of someone other than the truth your partner. Well you try and fix things and grovel. Does it work? I don’t know, you’ll have to read it to find out.
DNF after chapter 20. The story had possibilities but the plot needed so much work. Daven calling two women the same pet name made him a shallow character
I love books with crazy drama, but this book was everywhere, the grammar was not the best, and at some points it felt too much. Also the FMC forgave way to easily
