Penny Sunday is an Australian author who is obsessed with writing fun romance stories. When reading she loves dog-earing pages (and loves her actual dog), is seriously into peanut sauce, tiramisu, folding laundry and regularly stocks her go-bag for any possible impending apocalypse. She keeps all her dark-haired men in books, locked up in the cupboard right where they belong.
What a fun time! The banter, the one liners, I was literally cackling at the back and forth between the characters. Also a very unique story, unlike anything I have read before.
If this book showed me anything, it’s that I need to read more romcoms. This was such a fun story 🤭 I was giggling through almost every chapter and it was the best feeling.
The banter between these two. OMG 🔥 Delphine was hilarious. People are literally trying to kill her and she’s out here asking how their day’s going, holding a regular conversation with them like it’s completely normal 💀 And Dig was the perfect mix of bad boy x sweetheart.
Here’s the deal: everyone has a soulmate and if you haven’t found yours by age 25, you’re deemed soulless, rejected by society, and thrown into prison where you have to fight for your life in the annual Execution Battle (think adult Hunger Games, but bloodier).
Dig Graves is convinced Delphine is his soulmate (she’s not feeling it) and spends the entire battle proving it to her. He’s lethal, muscled, tattooed, and wears these cute heart-shaped sunglasses 😮💨 But he also has a big secret he’s scared to tell her. I loved Dig so much. The way he worships Delphine and just adores her 🥹 His POV chapters pulled at my heartstrings.
At first, I was not sure I was going to enjoy this. A few chapters in though OMG, I couldn't stop reading. I was engrossed in the story!
The banter between Delphine and Dig, well, Delphine & anybody was hilarious. She definitely speaks her mind, how inappropriately timed it might be. The aire she puts into the atmosphere is so funny, so self absorbed but not, at the same time. She is oblivious to how funny she really is.
I absolutely loved Dig Graves. Having a few chapters in his POV really added to the adventure, bringing the story together. Walking through hell, over and over again, stabbed left and right for this girl, who doesn't even see what's right in front of her. (Understandable, after learning what Magnus did)
The soulless & soulmates thing was such a great concept. The Execution Battle was so exciting. This was such a fun book to read that I was sad when it ended. This book has Hunger Games crossed with Love is Blind vibes. It was a such a fun read with twists you won't see coming.

This is the most unhinged, hilarious dark rom-com I've read in a long time. Delphine is a hilariously deadpan, emotionally flat FMC who offers shortbread to people trying to murder her and obsesses over her ruined antique rug mid-chaos. Her dynamic with Dig Graves (the masked, red heart-shaped sunglasses-wearing serial killer who broke into her room) is chaotic, obsessive, and weirdly sweet.
The book throws you into a dystopian world of fated Soulmates, Soulless prisoners, and a brutal televised Execution Battle — all filtered through absurd humor, bloody violence, and spicy scenes (yes, the sunglasses get creative use).
It's ridiculous, self-aware, and never takes itself seriously. Perfect if you love dark rom-coms like Butcher & Blackbird or Lights Out and want something chaotic, funny, and horny with zero chill.
Not for you if you need deep world-building or nuanced characters — this one leans fully into the crazy and it's better for it.
Trigger warnings are real (and cheekily listed in the book). Highly entertaining ride!
I honestly cannot stop thinking about Kill to Love. This book completely pulled me in from the very first page and refused to let go until the very end. The tension, the chemistry, the twists—I was hooked on every single word.
Penny Sunday has created something really special here. The characters feel so real and layered, and the emotional depth caught me off guard in the best way. One minute my heart was racing, the next it was breaking, and then somehow being put back together again with a dumping of humour.
What I loved most was how addictive it was—I kept telling myself “just one more chapter” and suddenly it was 2am. It’s the kind of story that lingers with you long after you’ve finished, and I already wish I could read it again for the first time.
This was such a fun read! Had to info dump on the partner a few times to share the humour around 🤣
Such a unique world compared to other stories in this genre - I want more!! The length and pacing of this book was pure perfection - just the right amount of info to keep you wanting more on each page!!!
This was a way better version of lights out - completely different don’t get me wrong! But seriously it gave me everything lights out was lacking.
Thanks also to Penny Sunday for introducing me to a new music genre - horror/rnb. Will now proceed to play ‘Cute Girl’ by Diggy Graves on repeat 🎧
