The highly anticipated fourth volume of the all-ages bestseller Adventure Time is here!
After a nice battle of ice and saving princess, Finn and Jake discover a series of dungeons just ready for exploring! It's a fun time with pals and...the Ice King?! Collecting the latest arc of the fan-favorite series with loads of extra materials in this beautiful hardcover edition!
After defeating the Magic Guy once again (he is a BUTT!) our friends go up for and adventure with... the Ice King??? Oh well, I guess it's okay, since the adventure is inside a dungeon he created!!! What time is it? Is sad Ice King backstory time!!! (sigh)
Oh man, how I just can't deal with Ice King's backstory! It breaks my heart every time it is mentioned anywhere!!! 😭😭😭💔 Also in this volume there is Lumpy Space Princess, my favourite character! Not a big fun of the story line (there basically is none) but the art and the characters are rad as usual! Yay! Dungeons!
Another cute instalment in the Adventure Time graphic novel series. This time, best pals Jake the Dog and Finn the Human and... the Ice King... battle through a dungeon created when the Ice King was in a slump and feeling lonely. Will the treasure at the end be worth the crazy emotions?
These graphic novels are silly and fun and I enjoy all of them. :) Not much more to say!
Quite a fun time was had this time around. I always like seeing the kinder, gentler side of the Ice King. Still hoping for less Cover Gallery, more STORIES in the next volume.
Ten komiks jest bardzo ciekawy i zabawny . Czytając ją poznajemy losy dwójki bohaterów: Jake'a i Finna oraz reszty ich zwariowanych przyjaciół 🙃!Każdemu polecam ten komiks gdyż ich wspólne przygody są pełne akcji i humoru !
Adventure awaits our two mathematical heroes in this volume. First story deals with them crashing a princess tea party to stop Magic Man. They are cursed and must learn to deal with its emotive after effects until the princess society comes up with an elaborate plan to save them. It gives a more thorough look into the various princesses around Ooo too. I mean who knew Ghost Princess's real name!? Then a more challenging test awaits the two, who gain the Ice King's help in conquering some dungeons. Including ones created by him and other known wizards of the past. Along the way we see more of Simon, Ice King's old persona, come to the surface. It's saddening to see Ice King gain something, but then seeing that it's a wanted, hollow imitation of what he truly needs. I hope he someday finds those things to really bring him out of his wizard madness. Can't wait to read more on the characters that develop in the next volumes!
This volume is done by the writer of volume 1, Ryan North. Volume 1 was terrible, bit it may be because he as still trying to find his voice, since its daunting to write something original based on something so beloved.
He definitely hits the mark with Adventure Time Vol 4. It has no extra title, but the story is definitely memorable and entertaining
After a battle with the Ice King, Finn and Jake find the Ice King's secret dungeons. Ice King doesn't remember them, but they go back inside to find the legendary treasure inside, along with the intense dangers long forgotten.
The book combines character development alongside the action, so the book has purpose. Unlike Vol. 1, Vol. 4 gets it right. This is another must read for fans of the series, and viewers of the show will get the references and enjoy it more.
Number four in this colourful series! Another fun, exciting adventure with our favourite characters. It includes issues 15 to 19 of the comic.
The first adventure Finn and Jake embark on is the retrieval of their voices after a princess tea party is crashed by the mischievous Magic Man. The princesses all get together, including Bubblegum and LSP (of course), to assist Finn and Jake.
After that, the boys find themselves in the Ice King's hidden (and forgotten) dungeon. They want the treasure at the other end, but that requires defeating several monstrous bosses first...
The adventures are, as always, great fun. The graphics are awesome and the dialogue is hilarious. This volume teaches us a lot about the Ice King's past, too, and is actually quite emotionally deep at times.
I really enjoyed this! A light-hearted, funny read (although it had it's more emotional moments). I found myself actually sympathising with the Ice King, and really wanting to know more about his past. And I loved the cover gallery, as always! There are some amazing pieces in here!
2013 Eisner Award winner - Best Publication for Kids (ages 9–12)
Collects issues #15-19.
Issue #15 is a stand-alone story about how Magic Man takes away Finn and Jake's ability to talk, so they can only communicate using emojis. This wouldn't have worked in the cartoon, but it is a nice use of the print medium.
The main story, from issues #16-19, has Finn and Jake with Ice King exploring a mysterious network of underground caverns in search of treasure. Along the way they get trapped in some alternate realities and eventually meet the remains of the Lich. Not only is this saga funny, but it is also poignant as we see Ice King show his vulnerable side.
The artwork captures the feel of the cartoon. The gallery of alternate covers showcases some very different (in a good way) interpretations.
this collection is gorgeous and fun and bright! imaginative and bizarre and weird! i read this as some eye candy in between novels, a touch of nonsense to help me reset my brain like a piece of ginger to clear my taste buds synapses. my favorite part is the EXTENSIVE cover gallery in the back, my eyes practically melted out of my head witnessing the grand imagination and lack of subtley! i love the assorted styles of the gallery, all the same focus but each one oozing with the artists personality. i found it refreshing. i needed to absorb material without experiencing taxing ramifications of processing and discussion.
The book starts out with a nice lil one-shot of Magic Man shenanigans at Princesses High Tea and makes Finn & Jake lose their voices. As in they now speak in literal pictograms (and one lil rhebus)
The rest involves F&J plus Ice King going through a special dungeon. Just when you thought things were getting ridiculous - Simon/Ice King feels come crashing down!!
__________ "mathematical edition" just means the book is hardcover, and ALL the solo issues orig covers are printed in the back. Gorgeous art that has absolutely nothing to do with the story, but is amazing to look at
I love how - once again - North, Paroline and Lamb work together to explore how comics can be used to tell stories in ways that other mediums can't. I love the issue with Magic Man where Finn and Jake's ability to "talk" is taken away and they have to speak using pictures. So much fun.
Also, of course, loved the run of comics about Finn and Jake and the Ice King adventuring together. Their relationship has evolved so much and it's fun to watch that grow and change.
I was a tiny bit sad when I saw another Adventure Time in my pile, but I really do like reading what's in my class library. The one I'd already read wasn't bad, but I thought that was the only one I'd have too. Lol.
I liked the other one (Vol 6?) better than this one. This one had two longer stories instead of shorter stories. The talking in pictures was creative but annoying to read.
“But giving ups easy. You know what’s hard? To believe in your own worth, to know you’ve got something special in you even if nobody else can see it. Even when you can’t.”
That line alone from the Ice King broke my heart in the most beautiful way. I almost want it tattooed on myself. This volume definitely deserved the awards it got. I definitely felt a lot more characters development and not just crazy adventure shenanigans. I feel for the Ice King. What a beautiful volume!
this is the best volume so far imo. we really took a deeper look into the character of the ice king. his backstory actually caught me off-guard and it was actually really sad and wholesome and it really made me respect the ice king a lot more. overall a really well-rounded volume with great puns and an awesome adventure-filled plot!!
So much adventure with Finn and Jake. Awesome adventure with Ice King! Ice King can say the smartest thing. Sometimes it feels sad to see him miss someone who loves him for him only to find out it was only an illusion by the Lich! So rare to see Ice King happy. I enjoy browsing the cover gallery at the end in every comic.
This one hit me right good. The intro story was good, but the serial story KILLED IT. I know about Ice King's history, but this really have it a human emotion. And the increasingly complex structure of the dungeons (and the story) was really well done. Bravo, Mr. North. 👏👏
Another fun adventure. This time Finn and Jake team up with Ice King. The writing and artwork continue to excel. It is a great idea to include cover galleries in these volumes. There is an abundance of gorgeous artwork represented in these.
Super quick and fun read! It felt like I was reading one of the TV episodes (which is great because I miss the show so much and wish I could watch it for the first time again) and I even found one snail (although I’m sure there’s one in each comic)!
The magic man has taken away Finn and Jake's voices while attempting to ruin lumpy princesses voice since he was annoyed by her but like why was he even at a princess tea party ruining their good time. just rude.
Adventure Time at its 100% very best. Hilarious and moving by turns, managing to capture on the page everything unique about the flavor and voice of the show.
