Under his rule, nobody is safe

Prince Julian Davaros is heir to the throne of the Lamdera Islands. He’s gorgeous, rich, famous… and just happens to be a serial killer. His family and bodyguard know his murderous proclivities, but to everyone else, he’s simply the heir apparent, loved by many. In reality, Julian can’t stand most people, he doesn’t have relationships, and if he’s alone with you it usually means you’re his next victim. However, once Wynn Carter catches his attention in a small café, Julian’s new obsession isn’t one he wants to kill but instead wants to own.

Wynn Carter has always wanted to visit the Lamdera Islands, and he’s using his thirtieth birthday as the perfect excuse. His plan is to soak up some sun, drink in the culture, and make memories with his friends. His agenda didn’t include catching the eye of the future king. Now Wynn finds himself swept up in a sort of fairytale of lavish dinners, intimate nights, and even some media attention. He doesn’t know what he did to deserve the prince’s interest, but he’s certainly not upset about it.

Unfortunately, secrets don’t stay hidden no matter how powerful you are, and when someone decides to push Julian out of the shadows by hurting the one person he wants more than anything, the quiet monster that lies within him bursts free. Julian’s and Wynn’s lives erupt into chaos, and Wynn finally discovers who Julian truly is. If he can’t live with it, the prince needs to decide whether to surrender everything… or get rid of his obsession.

Under His Rule is part of the multi-author series, In the Spotlight. 14 authors bring you 14 original stories of killers in the public eye. Where everyone is dying to be in the spotlight. Every book can be read as a standalone.

I think this is the darkest book book Davidson has written so far. Can't speak of the body count, because i have never bothered to count the bodies, but it certainly caters to the darker aspects of people (aka Julian), more than a separate subplot or external agents. It was very interesting

4.5 stars. Wynn Carter goes on vacation to the Lamdera Islands with his friends for his thirtieth birthday.
At the same time Prince Julian Davaros, who will be King of the Lamdera Islands in a few years, travels the islands as he does annually.

What only his family and his bodyguard know is that Julian is a psychopath and has regular urges to kill. Only the bad guys. He loves to kill, preferably strangle his victims with ropes, that’s the only moment he feels something,

On his travels, Julian’s attention fell on Wynn, who was sitting in a cafe enjoying the consternation around the prince visiting the cafe. There’s something about Wynn that makes Julian feel things he never felt for anyone else. He knows, from that moment, that Wynn has to be his.

How the woo Wynn? That’s easy, being invited by an attractive prince who has his eyes only on him, is more than nice. Julian is hot for Wynn, the prince on his knees for him dang, he’s good!

“I see no peasants, Wynn, and the only crown I’m interested in is this one.”

Everything sounds good, right? It was, until someone rude to Wynn was found killed, strangled to death. After that, Wynn’s world turns upside down, leaving the Islands is no option.

This was a super entertaining read. I loved the course of this story, different from what I could imagine, I love that.
This narrative was wonderfully executed, smoothly and intriguingly executed. The story is part of the In The Spotlight series. I love the concept where men love to kill. I read several stories and this one is a great addition!

Man, I devoured this book in one sitting! The book is F’ed up but oh so good! It’s dark with obsessiveness, possessiveness, cold blooded murder, just wow… Julian is a Prince with a very dark secret but his family knows and it’s hidden well. While he’s out doing his Princely duty, he stops in at a cafe and spots Wynn sitting alone and goes over to speak to him and then he becomes Julian’s everything. Wynn is there on vacation with his friends, but that quickly changes. So much f’ed upness, but oh so good! A Must Read!!

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.5 stars

Under His Rule is a contemporary thriller/dark romance from author Davidson King. It takes place in the fictional island nation of Lamdera and features a main couple that’s one part obsession, one part instalove, and one part unconditional love. The story is dual first-person perspective and, while that does give us insight into Julian’s preferred method of murder, much of the details are glossed over, so there’s not a lot of graphic death on page.

I was interested in this story because of its unapologetic exploration of a murderous MC without a redemption arc. On that front, I think Under His Rule delivers big.

The tone of the story shifted halfway through as Julian fell deeper into obsession and his narration took on more sensational qualities as he lashed out for not getting his way. If you’re looking for a dark romance with a lot of spice and characters who are expressly morally repugnant or morally gray, then I think you’ll enjoy this.

🌶️🌶️.5/5.

Oh I loved this! Julien is OBSESSED with Wynn!

The way it all started was tame and cute, you know, just a prince changing his whole itinerary because he couldn’t get a certain tourist out of his mind and said tourist just blown away by the fact he actually talked with a prince.

I love Julien even when he doesn’t make it easy for us to. Because of his psychopathy, he is worse than a dog with a bone in his obsession for Wynn which is turn makes him a bit forceful about getting what he wants.
I loved the fact that Wynn could lessen the urges Julien has to serve justice to those who ain’t worth of living anymore, and because of that it makes Julien even more sure Wynn can never leave him.
Julien is a red flag with grey corners is what I have to say. 😅

Wynn is fun and down to earth. He is very clumsy because he gets stuck in his brain but when he meets Prince Julien, his brain focuses on him and not random things. So in a way, Wynn quietes Julien’s mind and vice-versa.
Wynn gets thrust in the royalty world but he handles it well and all things considered, he handles Julien well too.
Spicy times were 🥵.

I loved the royal family even though we didn’t have a lot of them in this book. I definitely wouldn’t mind a series by this author with Royals. I think it would be fire. Ohhh what about mafia but make it Royal too? I would love it, just saying… ☺️

I liked how the author laid it all out on page(why Julien is the way he is) so that we could understand more why in the end this is not a story about one person changing the other or “making them better”, this is about a partner accepting something awful about the other but understanding why it exists and trying everything in their power to make it better so the awful side doesn’t go unchecked and maybe destroy his life or others for no good reason.

* I read an arc of this book.*

A dark prince falls for an American traveler in this quick MM romance .

Prince Julian, who is heir to the throne, is also a psychopath serial killer who only kills the unjust. Truly, if you think about it, it's only carrying on the traditions of kings of the past who carried out punishments, but in a public venue. We aren't that far removed from such violent acts and his ancestors would have been the ones carrying out such deeds. Instead of focusing on this, it made it sound more like his great grandfather was also a vigilante sneaking about the small island just as Julian does. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't, but history more than not tends to show us what monarchs are capable of doing without hiding in the dark.

Hence...Julian and his need to unalive felt off against his personality when in the presence of Wynn. It was like he became a sunshine prince when he was supposed to be a dark character. It didn't always match up, but I loved that he was caring for the man he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. It was a nice twist.

As for Wynn, whom I did appreciate his bright outlook and actual time to think things through. His dear friends were also an added bonus, but at times I also felt bad for the extreme amount of pressure he was put under. In the end it all worked out which is truly what I love best about these books. I wasn't sure I would have chosen the same if I were in Wynn's shoes, but that is also what makes reading so fascinating.

Honestly, the characters felt a bit one dimensional at times and the plot was a bit thin when it came to understanding some of their motivation or feelings. I would have loved more background and time learning about who they were and what exactly made them tick, but this was a quick read, so this is a 3.5 stars read for me as there were moments that were entertaining.

Firstly, let me say I got this book from gay romance reviews and this is me leaving my honest review.
Wynn Carter was excited about spending his birthday visiting the Lamdera Islands Wynn was going with two of his best friends. He had always wanted to visit so he was super excited. Wynn has ADHD and he is self-confessed clumsy. He is a beautiful person. I liked his personality the way he could light an energy. On the first day when they arrive, he decides to look around the area. He goes to a café and is surprised when Prince Julian comes in for refreshments what amazed him was the fact that his royal highness came and sat beside him and they started talking wynn could not believe his luck.
Prince Julian was doing a tour of the islands. But first he had things to take care of you see Prince Julian is the future king and he goes on these tours to get to know his people but there’s another side of him that people just don’t see and that is that he is a serial killing psychopath. Now he only kills people that are bad. This has run in his family for many years to the point that they’ve have their own cremation pit so he can get rid of all the evidence. But when he walked into that café that day he is instantly attracted & obsessed with Wynn. And he make sure he security know exactly what his itinerary is for his remaining time on the islands. This is the first book that I’ve read from this author and I’ve got to say I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I think I went through most emotions in this book. My heart went out for Julian at times and then others I just felt he was too obsessed in an extremely unhealthy way. But these two have an attraction they have passion and they have this deep deep connection where Wynn can help calm Prince Julian. But when something happens and Wynn gets the blame, what will Prince Julian and the real family do to help????

Soon I get my thoughts in order I'll post full review. This was epic and wonderful. It needs more than 5 stars. Can we go with a gazillion stars because I was laughing, squealing and feeling so much joy with this.

Full review

5 gazillion stars. Trigger warnings in this. This is fiction so remember that going into it.

This was awesome and epic. I was laughing and squealing at times at Wynn and Julian's banter. This was a ride for sure. There wasn't a dull moment in this.

Wynn is on vacation with 2 of his best friends for his birthday celebration. He catches the eye of Julian who's the prince. They talk for a bit and Wynn thinks that will be the last, but he's wrong.

Julian has a secret life that only a select few, mostly his family, know about. However when he sees Wynn something changes. It's like he's opened to something else. He wants to know Wynn. Even changes his schedule for this to happen.

Though something happens when someone's not happy about Wynn's presents that makes things complicated. Since as summary says Julian being a killer in secret he decides they have to go, but the problem comes with him not sticking to his usual MO.

Wynn is threatened and Julian is in touch or hurt him and he will end them mode. Julian's family have to get involved now and something else that I didn't see coming goes down. Which Wynn has to think on.

I was laughing at the way Julian does things and Wynn has to keep telling him no you can't do that. This just works in a way that I can't explain. I adored Wynn's friends and Julian's family. Wynn doesn't just help Julian he helps the whole family. There is drama and darkness but Wynn is the light.

Prince Julian Davaros is adored as the heir to the Lamdera Islands, but secretly he’s a serial killer known only to his family and bodyguard. When Wynn Carter visits the islands for his thirtieth birthday, he unexpectedly catches Julian’s interest — not as a victim, but as someone Julian wants to claim. Wynn is swept into a glamorous, intoxicating romance, unaware of the darkness beneath it. But when someone targets him to expose Julian’s secrets, the prince’s violent nature erupts. As their lives spiral into chaos, Wynn learns the truth, and Julian must choose between giving everything up… or eliminating the man he’s become obsessed with.

This was a wonderfully dark and compelling story, built around Julian’s obsessive fixation on Wynn — an obsession so intense he even altered the itinerary of a royal tour just to stay close to him. Their connection was unsettling at times but also strangely intimate, especially in the way they helped steady each other. I loved how Julian could calm Wynn’s ADHD‑scattered mind, helping him feel focused instead of clumsy, while Wynn grounded Julian enough to quiet his violent urges or at least limit the damage. The writing made their thoughts and emotions incredibly easy to feel, pulling me right into their twisted, magnetic dynamic. The supporting cast was fantastic too, adding humour, tension, and depth, and I’d love to know more about the rest of the royal family. A dark, addictive read with a pair of characters who shouldn’t work together but absolutely do. This was an MM story with mature content.

This book is so good that I devoured it in one day! It is fast paced, has two fully developed, unique MC's who are complete opposites that totally work together, supportive friends and family, plenty of steamy sexy times, has dark and twisted moments with danger and violence, and a love connection that shouldn't work but really does.
Wynn is an adorable, lovable klutz. Julian can be charming, but is a psychopath who chooses his victims carefully - think Dexter.
There is an instant attraction that led to several occasions where they truly connected. However, Julian is forced into showing his true self to Wynn after a situation. Despite their budding connection, Wynn has serious and understandable reservations about committing himself to a man like Julian, but after some time to think, Julian's single minded persistence, and surviving a dangerous encounter from outside forces, he decides to go all in.
I really liked that each man had something good to offer the other in their relationship. For Julian, Wynn was able to quiet his 'beast', and for Wynn, Julian was able to keep him focused and less likely to get in his own head and cause his typical clumsy mishaps.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would absolutely recommend it if the dark elements are for you.

I received an ARC from GRR, this review is my honest opinion.

This was such a wild, addictive read. It starts off almost like a twisted fairytale, with Wynn getting swept up in the orbit of a charming, powerful prince, but there’s always that darker edge underneath that keeps the tension high.
Julian is not an easy character to like, but that’s what makes him so compelling. He’s obsessive, possessive, and unapologetically dangerous, yet there’s something fascinating about the way his focus shifts when it comes to Wynn. It never feels like he’s being “fixed”, more that Wynn becomes the one person who can steady him, even just a little.
Wynn brings a nice contrast to all that intensity. He feels grounded and genuine, and the way he handles being thrown into both royal life and Julian’s attention makes his character easy to root for. Their dynamic is intense from the start and only escalates as the truth begins to surface.
What stood out most for me is that the story doesn’t shy away from what Julian is. It leans into the darker aspects of his character and builds the relationship around acceptance rather than change, which gives the whole thing a more unsettling, but interesting, edge.
Dark, dramatic, and definitely a bit unhinged in places, but if you enjoy obsessive characters and morally grey romance, this one is hard to put down.

Wynn Carter has always wanted to visit the Lamdera Islands. His thirtieth birthday is the perfect excuse. He and two of his friends set out to enjoy the islands. Only Wynn is swept off his feet and into Prince Julian Davaros’s orbit. Julian is the heir to the throne of Lamdera. He is gorgeous, sexy and famous. He is also a serial killer. Generally, when he brings someone home, they are never seen again. When Julian spots Wynn, he knows he is for him, forever. Unfortunately, secrets have a way of coming out when you least expect it.

Julian is a different main character is so many ways. He becomes obsessed with Wynn and is unable to imagine being refused. He has an itch that drives him to kill, but Wynn seems to calm that itch. In fact, Wynn is the only one he listens to when that dark part of him threatens to take over. Wynn is such a sweet guy. He is a bit clumsy, often tripping and causing havoc, but when he is with Julian, that part calms down. They turn out to be good for each other. This book is perfect for those who love something a bit different. Not only that but there is a whole series of these to check out. It doesn’t get any better than that.

3.75 Stars!

I enjoyed the story, but for some reason it didn't hit me quite right. Prince Julian and Wynn met by pure chance, and Julian was obsessed at first sight. Wynn was a sweet guy who tried to stay realistic when Julian took an interest in him. Julian was hard to say no to, especially when he turned on the charm and was so selfless when it came to Wynn.

I felt for Wynn; he was in over his head, even without Julian's secret. While I liked that Julien chose his victims well for the most part, his arrogance about what he did threatened everything he held close to him. I hated that Wynn ended up in a no-win situation regarding Julian's secrets, but I understood why. I liked that Julian tried to protect Wynn as best he could, but followed through with whatever Wynn decided. I loved the deal Wynn struck with Julian and was glad that Wynn was able to accept Julian as he was. I also liked how well Wynn fit in with Julian's family and responsibilities.

All in all, while I just didn't connect with the story as well as I was hoping, I believe many readers will enjoy this one.

Julian is a psychopathic serial killer. He is also a prince which puts some constraints on his proclivity’s. His family knows and accepts him for what he is. Wynn is on the vacation of his lifetime when the prince crosses his path. Julian is instantly smitten. Wynn calls to something in him that feels like it might be peace.

The peripheral people added a bit to the story. Julian’s family and Wynn’s friends were pleasant but not too intrusive. I think Julian’s bodyguard Edward needs a story.

I liked that Wynn didn’t instantly fall for Julian. His spidey sense tingled, but he gave in anyway (it is a romance after all). His support of Julian was sweet. I liked that Julian cherished Wynn and wasn’t afraid to tell him.

All that said..I think Julian may be the first of this author’s characters I just didn’t warm too. I’ve read characters that were darker and liked them so that isn’t it. Being a man of power he was respectful to those around him. Can’t really say why he just didn’t appeal to me. But I did enjoy the book.

Review for Under His Rule by Davidson King

I have been addicted to Davidson King since the first book I read of hers. Her stories just suck me in so that I do not want to come out lol. I love that Davidson King writes dark romances; they have become my drug of choice. Loved the story of Prince Julian Davaros & Wynn Carter. Julian has things that others want; he is gorgeous, famous, and rich. But he has a secret: he loves, ummm, killing. He doesn't really like people. But things change when he meets Wynn. I was like, " Wow, what a different story. I always go into this author's stories to see what style and storyline they are writing this time, lol. Wynn was a different story. He just wanted to visit the Lammdera Islands. Turning the big thirty is a great time to do this, he feels. He never thought that he would not only find a man that attracks him but also find a man who is the future king. I just couldn't put this book down once I started it. That really isn't a surprise since I immerse myself in this author's stories. I can't wait to see what they come up with next. All I know is I will be there with bells on, waiting.

I love unhinged, possessive unalivers! I seriously need my head checked out because I enjoy these stories way too much 😅

I loved Julian and Wynn. Loved the love at first sight on Julian’s part even though he didn’t know what love was. All he knew was that he needed to make Wynn his and would go to any extreme to make it happen.

Wynn was the only person who could tame the monster inside him and made him slow down somewhat. Just by being by his side, Wynn could bring some comfort and peace to Julian.

Of course, all that calm and peace went out the window the moment Wynn was targeted. Julian was ready to burn down the whole world in order to keep him safe.

Wynn seeing the real Julian should have had him running for the hills. Yet he felt save with him. Wynn had never been cherished and cared for the way Julian cared for him and honestly that was swoony af.

Having Wynn in his life made Julian a better person, albeit one who was still unhinged. But at least he was happier and less inclined to unalive people if Wynn was by his side. Something his family appreciated 😂

I really enjoyed this story. Who doesn’t love a crazy, possessive serial unaliver that can give you the world?😏

Independent reviewer for GRR, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is the second book In The Spotlight series I've read and I enjoyed it so much more than the first.

It's dark and deadly: Prince Julian, heir to the throne, is a psychopath and he knows it. He does what he does, and does it to nasty people.

It's steamy: Wynn and Julian have powerful chemistry. It's instant and carries all the way through the book.

It's emotional: Wynn has to decide, once he knows what's actually going on, whether he can live with Julian, knowing how he is. Also, for Julian, who doesn't fully understand his emotions, but he knows Wynn is literally a breath of fresh air that he needs. he just can't voice that in a way that won't scare Wynn off.

Loved how Julian's family knew, about everything, and the history to the family too.

I only read a short by this author before, I think I might find some time to jump into her world of books a bit more!

4 very VERY good stars

Under His Rule is part of a multi-author dark romance series where the common theme is that one of the MCs is a high profile personality in the public eye. Here, that’s fulfilled by Prince Julian being the glamourous heir to the throne in his land. His private and public personas, though, couldn’t be more at odds; and his obsession turns possessive when he happens across journalist Wynn who’s on vacation in the Lamdera Islands.

Devastatingly handsome? Tick. Powerful? Tick. Morally grey? Tick, tick, tick! Julian is perfectly at ease with his darker side and uses it effectively to take out the trash on his Islands. This makes the sunshiny, eternally clumsy and adorkable Wynn the perfect foil for him in this opposites attract romance. Yes, there’s great chemistry between the two MCs and Wynn has some valid questions about whether he can reconcile himself to giving up his life as he knew it for Julian, but I would have liked a bit more of that from Wynn. I would also have liked a bit more of the tension and suspense towards the end and of the baddie getting their comeuppance to really round out a good overall plot.

All in all, I really like this as an entry in this author’s body of work. I’ll probably check out some of the other books in the series, too.

An ARC was provided by the author. This is my honest review.

ARC Review

Instant obsession and possession!

This story was fast-paced and full of thrill. The plot was not dragged out, kept me engaged without ever being boring. The writing was very direct, it made it easy to read. I really liked this.

Oblivious and clumsy Wynn was just crusing through his life when a psychopath prince decided he was his, and went to lengths to make it happen. Wynn was funny and cute, I understand why Julian was obsessed. Julian is crazy though but that much was established since like the second chapter. He is the nicest kind of crazy.

Their relationship dynamics was cute, well to me. There were times I wanted to smack Julian for scaring Wynn but that was just about it. Edward deserves a raise in salary though 😂.

I really liked Wynn's friends. There were protective as well as supportive. Giving him space to actually decide for himself it was nice to read. I also like the way the royal family jumped in support of Julian and Wynn.

All in all, this was a very good easy read for me. A solid 4.8 for me.

This book is incredibly intense. I must mention upfront that it contains graphic content, as indicated by the content warnings. Despite this, it was exceptionally well-written and incredibly descriptive. I found myself completely engrossed in the story, and the world-building was top-notch. I appreciated the characters and how they were introduced. They felt genuine and plausible. Initially, I was surprised by the graphic nature of the killings, but I was given proper warnings. I would classify this book as a light to medium-dark romance. It includes all the typical elements like obsession, power, psychological issues, superficial beauty, and the “touch him and die” trope. However, this particular book had a possessive quality that I usually don’t enjoy. Nevertheless, I was warned about this in the blurb. The writing, style, suspense, and plot all stand out as exceptional. I’m definitely planning to read more from this author. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the read and couldn’t put the book down until the very end.

It's time to put your questionable morals aside and enjoy this outrageous fun ride. This dark rom-com came with a heaping helping of murder (mostly bad people), a whole lot of hilarious inner monologues, a sexy obssesed psycho prince, a sweet naive american, a lot of flirty witty banter/humor, and melt worthy spicy time. All combined, this was such an entertaining read.

Wynn is a clumsy, hot-mess express you can't help but instantly love. He was such an endearing character you wanna just wrap in bubble wrap.

Julian is a total psycho royal serial unaliver, and you know what I also freaking loved his character.

The dynamic between these two was so giggle enducing. I loved their meet-cute and how their story developed.

Part of a multi-author series (In the Spotlight). Instalove/obsession. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

While on vacation, Wynn attracts the attention of the local prince and finds himself the object of his obsession. Julian’s family knows he’s a killer, but now Julian has decided to keep Wynn and the secret becomes harder to hide.

This story continues the series' famous but secretly deadly vibe with a royal serial killer meeting a visiting tourist and their lives becoming entwined. Although Wynn doesn’t find out about Julian’s darker side for a while, there is a hint of dubcon as Julian pressures Wynn to stay with him for the long term. I appreciated Wynn’s loyal friends and Julian’s oddly supportive family as both sets of people protect and rally to Wynn and Julian’s sides. I wish there had been more background for both Julian and Wynn, but I did enjoy their steamy encounters and Julian’s absolute surety that Wynn was meant to be his forever.

But hey he’s a prince

This has got to be one of the sweetest “dark” romances I’ve ever read. I always enjoy Davidson King’s books and I loved this one a lot. Wynn and Prince Julian are Ms King’s contribution to a multi author series that all deal with dark themes and it is always interesting to see how differently the authors approach an idea. It’s a common romance theme that a character travels to another place where they fall in love with someone important or as in this book the important person falls in love with them. This book gives us some interesting twists on that trope with Julian being VERY interested in Wynn but, I liked how Ms King didn’t take the easy way out and tone down how obsessed Julian is. She instead has Wynn gaining insight into Julian and becoming accepting of his personality and needs as it were. Very enjoyable read for us lovers of the dark side.

I have been a huge fan of Davidson King's for a LONG time and I was so excited to see them truly embrace their dark side with this book. And while there were parts of this story I enjoyed, it just didn't work for me as much as I was hoping for it to.

I do fully believe that this is a me issue, and not an issue with the book itself, I just couldn't really sense a connection between the MC's it just felt a little forced to me.. And Wynn said that he wanted to be able to make his own choices and not be forced to stay but then just went along with what was happening to him and what Julian told him. I just didn't really sense any chemistry or connection with them.

I did like the side characters and I loved how Davidson wrote about Julian's 'dark' side. I thought that was fleshed out well and written in a great way, slightly gruesome but in a way that you want for a dark murder book, you know? Even though this one wasn't for me, it could me for you!

Prince Julian is not your everyday Prince. He does all the princely duties that are required of him but he does have a darkness inside that needs to be satisfied. Within moments of his meet-cute with tourist Wynn, Julian has a new obsession and a person that somehow manages to calm the darkness in his mind. Wynn is delightfully clumsy and perfect for Julian. Their immediate chemistry leads to plenty of steamy times and I loved how Wynn is swept into this world of royalty (with a difference!). Naturally the villain of the piece does their best to derail the relationship between Julian and Wynn but after a bit of drama they do get their HEA. There’s a wonderful cast of side characters, darkness balanced with lighter moments and a very satisfying ending.

Wynn & Julian

"There was something about Wynn Carter than spoke to the beast inside me. He was like a lit fireplace on a cold winter night, a blanket fresh out of the dryer. He was every last breath in the world, and whether he liked it or not, he was mine."

Obviously I could never approve of serial killers in real life, but in fiction the stories are fascinating and working through the challenge of having someone fall in love with a killer is one of the more interesting things I've read in the past couple years. It's not a super common trope, but the authors that can overcome those challenges and make a successful, entertaining and brilliant story while adding in a romance are just incredible.

The story was so gripping that I started it after midnight and finished it before I went to sleep. I knew it was going to be great just from what we're given in the blurb, but I certainly didn't expect to be so enthralled that I couldn't go to sleep until I was done.

I think my favorite moments in this story were the times Wynn was really given an insight into Julian's psyche and character, and didn't flinch away. He embraced the differences between them, and understood the urges and desires that needed met, but in an alternate way.

Under His Rule was a book I had been looking forward to for a while, and while there are many triggers that some readers would fine unpalatable, I readily enjoyed myself, and find that I really need to look into more of this author's work.

I received an authorized copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

Psychopath Prince × Cinnamon Roll

I follow this author on tiktok and was so mad I missed this on it's release day but thrilled I got it on day 2. I am the biggest sucker for psychopaths × Cinnamon Rolls and this was definitely that! I finished it in one sitting bc it was just delightful.
Wynn is a clumsy, journalist with adhd who goes on a island vacation for his 30th birthday.
Julien is a Prince and heir to the throne of the islands Wynn is visiting. He's also a psychopath murderer but what can you do?
Wynn catches Julien's eye and like so many psychopaths before him, that's all she wrote. They don't even need to "like them so he's mine" they just need to see them.
I won't give any spoilers but I will say the spice is spicing, the psychopath falls first and harder and even though there's some murders thrown in the mix there is an hea. This was 5-stars for me. 💙

Prince Julian is fortunate to have an understanding family and support network in his methods to release his tension as he does. When on the a annual island tour to visit the people he spots Wynn and knows he wants the man in his life. Wynn takes a thirtieth birthday trip to the Lamdera Islands where he happens to meet Prince Julian the first day and the man keeps showing up on his trip. Their connection is undeniable so they cannot help but court. Prince Julian hides who he truly is until something happens that causes him to show his true nature. When push comes to shove truths are set free and Wynn must decide if he can not only accept but in turn hide Julians true nature. Overall, a fun read just felt like something in their connection was missing.

Under His Rule by Davidson King is part of a multiauthor universe in which public figures moonlight as serial killers. Julian is the Crown Prince who has learned how to manage both his royal duties and his urge to kill. Wynn is an American turning 30 who is visiting Prince Julian’s country. When the two meet, there are immediate sparks. But how is a Prince and an American going to make this work? I really loved Julian’s obsessive qualities. He knew Wynn was different and he would do anything to make sure that Wynn remained in his life. Wynn chafed under Julian’s obsession and possessive tendencies. He wanted his own freedom and the ability to make choices. That was understandable. But I loved how these two figured it out. It was a great journey and I love anything from this author.

I received an ARC from the author for my honest review.
