Imagine it – a sexy BDSM Master talking to thousands of radio listeners every night… giving women an erotic and sensual insight into the world of domination and submission.
Jericho James is the man – the man with the power and the voice to make women around the country swoon and submit. But his personal life is haunted by a dark tragedy from his past, and a mysterious listener to his program who wants more from Jericho than he can possibly give.
Because there’s one thing he just won’t do… One line he simply will not cross.
Erotic BDSM written by a man from a man’s POV. Jason Luke is an Amazon Top Ten bestselling erotica author.
Jason Luke enjoyed several years involved in the BDSM lifestyle - but he is quick to point out that his experiences don't qualify him as an expert, any more than knowing how to drive a car makes him a qualified mechanic. 'Interview with a Master' is a novel about how one man became a Master. The book is a work of fiction, but Jason has drawn heavily on encounters from his own real life. He won't say which parts of the book are fictionalised, and which parts are auto-biographical.
Erotic BDSM fiction written by a man from a man's point of view.
When I saw that Jason Luke was releasing another title, I was excited. I am still very intrigued by the idea of a male writer, writing erotic from the male point of view. But something just did not click for me. The reviews are mostly giving this high marks, so I may fall to the minority in my feels; which is fine. No one will read the same book and get the same thing out of it.
Jericho James is in search of a new line of work when he learns of a radio station who is in need of an on air host to take over the late night segment, a segment that is going to focus on BDSM and the lifestyle. This is the perfect job for Jericho. Not only does he have the voice, even with a sexy accent, but he is a BDSM Master. He knows exactly what it’s like living this lifestyle... because this is his world. It was supposed to be easy. Talk, take some calls, give some advice... but it seems there are some women that want to do more for Jericho than just listen to him.
So okay. I felt like this story talked at me rather than to me. I felt detached from the entire experience. The parts where Jericho was away from the mic and not in the studio were the high points, but not that high. A lot of this book felt like it should be shifted into a subcat of self-help and a lot of the initial advice offered seemed recycled from the days when IWAM was released.
I almost put this down about four or five times. But I kept catching something that offered up something that gave me hope. It has nothing to do with the author’s ability to write. The book in fact, is really well written and the way he selects his words to frame the scenes is one of the things I enjoyed the most. Even not finding the book particularly something I enjoyed; there is no denying that. I just think that the characters didn’t present themselves in a way to allow us to latch on to them.
This book isn’t listed as a romance... but what it is, is being read by women who reading romance. Having an actual love story to latch onto would have made this book better. But here’s the thing. In my opinion, this book feels like a way for the growing number of erotica readers to be cashed in on. Doling out advice as to how to embrace your new desires; desires to be dominated, to be spanked... it all seems like this huge ploy. Now, if my theory holds even a little bit of truth that is very sad. I hope my instinct is 100% wrong.
Interesting, if slightly confusing story. I enjoyed the writing style and loved being inside the mind of Jericho. But the plot drifted at times and the ending was very abrupt.
Just when you thought Jason Luke couldn’t possibly get any better…
“It felt like you were inside my head – your voice – your presence… You consumed me, Jericho. You burned through me like a fire.”
You know going in that a Jason Luke novel will have beautiful, lyrical writing. You expect the characters to be ones that you’ll never forget; characters you’ll crave more of. After all, Jason Luke is one of the few elite BDSM/erotica authors in the world. I do believe, however, that The Word Master is the most erotic book he has written yet, as well as my new favorite. The sex is hotter than ever, but aside from the sizzling scenes it is a well-written, engaging novel that would work in any genre. The rich, deep dimension given to the diverse female characters in this book is especially refreshing.
Jericho James is the hottest leading man yet. He’s Aussie, he’s funny, and he’s hot as hell. The second you finish this book you’ll crave more Jericho. Like all great characters, he’s flawed and imperfect, haunted by a tragedy from his past. In the middle of the night, he takes to the radio airwaves answering callers’ questions about relationships, sex, and of course, BDSM. For those wanting to try submission themselves, he becomes an on-air Master—this section in particular draws the reader into the story, blurring the line between reality and fiction for any reader who has fantasized about submitting. This facet of the novel is so unique, so engaging, I can’t say that I’ve ever read anything like it.
In addition to the BDSM instruction given by Jericho, this book has a gripping, suspenseful plot. A mysterious caller kicks off the twists and turns that take Jericho on a path that will change him forever. The Word Master is deep on some levels, yes, but it’s also a fun page-turner that will keep you up all night reading. Like all Jason Luke novels, the ending will blow you away. I loved Jonah Noble in Interview with a Master and its sequel, In Love with a Master, and I lusted after Rick Cassidy in Interview with a Porn Star (a must-read if you haven’t yet!)—but Jericho James is in a league all his own. I loved, loved, loved this book and I can’t wait for more Jason Luke novels. For now, I’ll have to be content to get my fix by reading his blog posts every day in my inbox (if you haven’t, you MUST subscribe—it’s SO good!)
OH YEAH THAT WAS ONE FABULOUS EROTIC READ AT ITS BEST
Yeah that's me looking satisfied.
Let's just say that this book is amazingly hot, it's not intentionally hot but it turned out to be sizzling hot. Well I don't know, all I know that it's one of those reads that leaves you, ahem you know what I mean....
The book is actually quite refreshing and interesting at the same time. I Loved the author's deep profound understanding about BDSM and how he clears all the misconception about the lifestyle. It's like an introduction and a guideline into the world of BDSM.
The books is quite different from the regular reads, usually you happen to expect a love story and happy ever after ending, no... The books happens to have this edgy feeling to it. At start I was curious, in the middle of the read I was quite intrigued and towards the end I was fascinated.
Anyhow I hope for a sequel, the novel is a standalone but well let's just say it felt more like a cliffhanger!!!
I'd love to see how things develop from where the book ended.
Mr. Luke is gifted with words and this book is entirely titillating and definitely good for fanning yourself over. I just wished he gave more meat to his characters and story. His main character though gives you glimpses of his life and past is still a ghost, Nancy is given more back story than he is. April is given even less. The ending of the book left me wondering where the rest of it went. I don’t think it needs another book, just that it needs more to finish it. HEA or not, doesn’t matter, it just kind of ended. Much like a short story would, we’re given a little snippet in the life of Mr. Jericho James. And while I did enjoy the book, I would have gotten more enjoyment from a more fully fleshed out book. But I will iterate that Mr. Luke is DEFINITELY gifted at story telling. I was immediately drawn to his characters and to their emotions and their experiences. While I haven’t read anything else that he’s written, I’m not sure if this is just his style or if there is going to be more to this story later on. It didn’t seem so. Would I recommend this book is...(https://textuallove.wordpress.com/201...) Read the rest of the review behind the link.
I love reading about BDSM from the male point of view. Jason Luke nails it. Every time I thought I knew where the story was going, it would throw me a curve ball. Even thought the ending was totally unexpected, I think it was perfect. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a little more insight into how a man thinks.
I'm realy disappointed with this book. Usually reading Jason Luke means deep story with developed characters but not in this one. At beginning is realy nice read but somewhere in the middle of the book it's starts to be absurd. I thought that this will be somewhat the story with a profound message and i got ...NOTHING!!!
Awesome Quote: “By my definition, a spanking is an erotic experience that doesn’t focus on the pain inflicted. It focuses on the submissive vulnerability of the woman I am training.”

Jason Luke has come back into the world of erotica and he has come back swinging!
After a brief leave of absence to work on some of his horror novels, he comes back into erotica with The Word Master. And. I. Loved. It.
Jericho James is an Australian in America, responding to an ad put out by a radio station in Boston for a BDSM Master. As soon as he walks in the door and speaks to Nancy, the general manager, her words are “Are you serious?” — because, let’s admit it, we American ladies love an accent. And, in promotion of this book, Jason Luke gave out a small audio clip of himself reading the opening of the book. I’ll link that here (soon) so you can hear it and then continue to read the book, with that voice in your head.
You’re drawn in by Jericho’s accent, the way you can imagine his smooth, silky voice coming at you through the radio, with the sensual instructions; by his burgeoning friendship with April, and his protective streak towards her, and all women. You keep reading to find out who the mysterious caller is, and what he will do when he meets her.. You turn the page to find out how he dominates in real life, and not just over the radio.
Jason Luke, as always, entices all five of your senses so you get a full-body experience just through a book. And the fact that it’s written from a man’s point of view is…. insightful, amazing, and very helpful. I’ve found that all of his books can be read by both men and women and everyone will learn something. Grab this book for your man (or woman, for that matter) and see if it doesn’t spice up your Valentine’s Day. Either way, I’m 95% sure that Jason Luke can somehow improve your understanding of relationships — at both a friendship and a sexual level.
Grab this book, along with his other four, turn down the lights and enjoy!
"It's that dark, dangerous look in your eyes that sends chills down my spine and makes me want to melt."
Jason Luke certainly has a way with words, doesn't he? I honestly didn't think it was possible to love a book anymore than Jason's previous erotica novels, Interview with a Master, In Love with a Master, and Interview with a Porn Star, but Jason Luke has just proved me wrong! I immediately fell head over heels in love with Jericho James! His personality, combined with that sexy Australian voice in my head made me fall fast and hard! The Word Master is such an original story, so very different than any other erotica novels I have ever read, very refreshing. The plot was suspenseful, kept me on edge until the very end. I loved the characters and the sex scenes are some of the hottest I have ever read! I highly recommend this book to anyone that is 18 years of age or older! I just can't get enough of Jason Luke's writing and can't wait to see what he has in store for us this year!
Jason Luke is back and I can’t e happier. This book is fantastic. The Word Master, we are introduced to Jericho James a sexy as sin BDSM master from Australia. Jericho is the new overnight radio personality. We get to hear is sexy accent every night giving us direction into being his submissive. OK, OK, OK no you don’t get to hear his voice and that’s the only thing wrong with this book. I want to hear his sexy as hell Aussie accent. Jason will you read this book to me, please? The book is great and Jason leaves you wanting more, but he always does.
What can I say ? This one blew me away! I loved this even more than Interview with a Master and that is saying much. Loved and enjoyed reading this HOT book bit by bit. Love Jason Luke his books and can't wait for his next one to come out! This book, just WOW ;-) You will certainly enjoye this one, it's like nothing I have read before. He can definitely write and it's so well written, you just get sucked into the story; couldn't put this one down.
This is a hard review for me, I am a fan of Mr. Luke's and I have enjoyed his other erotic books, but this one I couldn't even finish. It was more like a how to manual instead of an actual story. The characters lacked depth, and what I thought was going to be an interesting plot just fell flat. I read to about 50% and just couldn't go on. This just wasn't the story for me.
I loved this book especially the aspect of being from the male/master side! My favourite part may actually be though the insight into how perhaps the mind frame from both side works!
This book is wonderfully written. I loved every word if it is something you would read I truly hope you find it as interesting and enjoyable as I did ;) enjoy ;)
It’s Always nice to get a perspective from a man in the romance genre-particularly with a BDSM book. This one was ok with an average story. I will read another book by this author.
Great storyline, well delivered and totally addictive. An author who can captivate and seduce the reader with the flow of his words. The reader is in for a treat.
From the opening line, Luke sets the scene for what promises to be a powerfully written story. Immediately, strong characterisation is achieved and certainly you feel the strength of the male point of view and in that, the strength of Jericho James’ character.
Story and character details are rich and plentiful, engaging the reader immediately. Luke’s storytelling embodies the cardinal rule of writing: “show, don’t tell”—you can feel the mood of the scene, you can envisage the physical appearance of the characters, and you can hear the dulcet smooth tones of Jericho James.
Luke’s storytelling voice is strong and commanding, yet comforting at the same time. It’s that very feeling you get when pulling on an favourite jacket to feel it’s enveloping comfort and warmth.
The story itself is peppered with touches of Australia that I found very endearing—the accent, the colloquialisms, references to great Aussie musicians, and what was a very entertaining reference to Vegemite. Luke’s humour also showed through in that jovial, not-taking-myself-too-seriously Aussie way which is entertaining and palatable.
The content of The Word Master centres firmly around the BDSM lifestyle, a topic that has certainly endured much discussion of late. The premise of a mid-dawn radio program that centres around the discussion of sexuality is an interesting concept and one that offered a great amount of context for the discussion of BDSM. That discussions surrounding the semantics of the BDSM lifestyle are being had is one thing, the disclosure of tangible and accurate advice is quite another and what Luke provides in The Word Master is an adulterated male perspective on the questions that many women and men have. Luke reiterates the ‘safe, sane, consensual’ mantra that defines safe BDSM practices but further to that also offers insight into the safety mechanisms (both physical and emotional) that are required for safe play. I believe that though fiction, this story may serve as empowering for women within the lifestyle. Additionally, Luke’s portrayal of the BDSM scene goes some way in dispelling some misconceptions about the lifestyle which will hopefully serve as a positive outcome.
Luke sets up and defines the D/s dynamic well, and indeed with two separate characters inside the story (though I will mention only one was an actual relationship). I couldn’t help but feel that his arrangement with April was an invested arrangement (Jericho was very certainly falling for her from the outset) and the other with Nancy, though defined as an agreed upon arrangement, was one that was of convenience or perhaps one that he wasn’t entirely invested nor interested in.
The dynamic of each relationship was considerably different; so much so that it brought up a couple of concerns for me in terms of Jericho’s behaviour as a Dominant. Notably in his relationship with Nancy there was no determining of limits (hers or his), no agreement on safewords (hers or his despite Jericho’s initial hesitance about their compatibility), and perhaps most disappointingly no after-care. In a story so heavily steeped toward the ‘safe, sane, consensual’ aspects of BDSM relationships I feel that these points should have been addressed even if only fleetingly. By contrast, his D/s relationship with April (though different in its structure) was respectful and intimate without so much as a physical sexual move being made between them. Therein lies the complexity of BDSM relationships.
My final thoughts on finishing the novel were: – Can we find out more about Jericho and April – I loved the dynamic of their relationship, and – Perhaps Luke should turn his hand to non-fiction and pen a guide for men (perhaps even couples) looking to make the transition into a BDSM relationship. Certainly Luke brings to the table a significant wealth of information about the semantics of the lifestyle, but additionally he has a firm understanding of the emotional requirements and complexities of the lifestyle.
When the opportunity to read The Word Master came across my email, my first reaction was SIGN ME UP! I really enjoyed Jason's Interview with a Master and In Love with a Master books and looked forward to diving into this one.
Jason's erotic writing as it relates to the BDSM lifestyle is often in stark contrast to that of other authors. His writing goes to great lengths to explain the how and why of things rather than just presenting readers with a scene. Just as Jonah Noble did in Interview with a Master, his male protagonist in The Word Master Jericho James wants his radio audience to understand the many layers of the lifestyle and that dominance and submission is more than physical.
Jericho is hired by a Boston radio station to work the overnight shift bringing heat to the airwaves with a new talk show about BDSM and the lifestyle. He works with an interesting crew of personalities, Cecily his producer, April his announcer, Cindy the secretary and Nancy the station manager. Plus there is Grover a fill in producer that strikes a strong resemblance to WKRP's Dr. Johnny Fever.
These women, all with different personalities, become the center of the story when a caller named Sondra begins relaying her sexual fantasies on air while speaking to Jericho. He tries by process of elimination to determine if the caller is a member of the listening audience or someone closer as in a member of the station staff.
What grabbed me was the way Jericho explains how men and women are wired differently as it pertains to sex. In this conversation with a caller he discusses how men are threatened by a woman's desire to submit.
"Most guys are pretty fragile about sex. Their self-esteem is built on their own perception of their prowess. So going to your husband and suggesting trying BDSM is something that many men in the same situation as your husband would take as criticism of their current efforts."
Jericho goes on to say that, "Women don't understand men, and men certainly don't understand women. But the point here is that your husband is probably not rejecting the idea of trying something new in the bedroom - he's refusing to budge because he has probably taken your suggestion as a criticism of his ability to please you. In instances like this, the man often withdraws completely - at least in terms of sex - because he feels like you are unsatisfied, and he doesn't know what to do about it because he probably has limited sexual experience.”
The questions, like what was outlined in that conversation, the listeners asked each night prompted a new segment to be added to the show called the "Sub Club." Jason used this segment to cement his skills in commanding his readers and Jericho's audience to fall under his spell as Master. The way Jericho spoke to his girls, commanding them to be ready and in position and prepared to submit, it's no wonder there is such curiosity by women.
This book has heat. Between the Sub Club segments with April, the fantasy conversations with Sondra and the subsequent training of his new sub, the temperature never gets cool. While the information that Jason shares about the lifestyle via his characters is insightful, the characters themselves failed to grip me the way I had hoped. I completely disliked Nancy, didn't feel we got to know Cecily or Cindy at all and April, well she was a contradiction in herself.
I'm not sure if Jason will continue the story with another Jericho book, if he did, I would definitely read it.
Firstly let me say, I am a huge fan of Jason Luke. His writing is brilliant. I loved his earlier works.
But this story was something I didn’t love, it just didn’t click for me.
This story was different. Different in a sense that the whole setting was a little unusual. That’s not to say that I was looking for something more real, but I was just not sure about the whole setting and storyline. When I started the book, I thought that it was a great idea for a story, but then…. I just felt it didn’t really go anywhere.
I had a hard time connecting to these characters and this story. I understand the Author’s note at the beginning of the book explaining he had taken some liberties for a better story, but I just couldn’t feel it.
I just felt that the characters didn’t relate as well as they should have to one another. I didn’t feel the chemistry or the emotions between any of them. I felt they lacked depth and the plot line was just merely unexciting.
But I will say that I loved Jericho James. He was indeed the master of this whole story. I felt that. He needed a different story to be told. One where we learnt more about him. His story has so much potential to be told in a different light.
He was gorgeous. Strong, sexy, dominant, caring, protective. I wanted more of his past, his present, his future. But this snippet of his time at the radio station and as an announcer – I just didn’t get it. There was nothing else given to the reader but this part of his life. The small amounts we did get were very minimal and left me wanting to know more. I wanted Jericho’s story to have been so much more.
I felt that Nancy Collett was cold and calculating. Even when she showed her vulnerable side, there was something about her I just couldn’t get over. I’m not sure what it was. I just couldn’t connect with her in this story.
April Sullivan – I found her character a little fake. I just couldn’t see how she could do the things she did while the “sub club” sessions were on during the radio show – especially claiming she was a lesbian – but I get that Jericho had some sort of “hold” over women. But in April’s situation, I just didn’t get it. I almost felt like April was not a lesbian at all but bi-sexual.
The writing is good though. Jason Luke tries to put you in the moment – and I must admit, he had me wanting more at some points. The anticipation throughout the radio sub club stints were well executed and held every bit of allure possible – these were my favorite parts. But the romance, passion, lust or love throughout this story was non-existent.
I'm so glad Jason Luke is back at writing erotica. And did he come back with a bang or what?! This is my third erotica novel I have read of his and its my favorite so far! Word Master... and that is what he is, gripped me and turned me into a hot firey mess! Sub club, Yes Please with a serving of Jericho James on top!!! Holy Hell Hawt!!! Meet Jericho James.... " You sound like sex", she said. Your f***ing voice is so deep and smooth that it's hard to believe it's real. That's my problem. You've got a name that everyone will remember, an accent that will melt every women's panties... and you happen to be easy on the eye...very easy .. in fact." ~ Nancy Yes ladies that is Jericho, the man I've spent my last two glorious days with! And Australia might I add! It really can't get any better! "My idea of a perfect date is whatever the women I am with considers perfect. Because to me, what makes the date perfect is pleasing the woman I am with. Ultimately, I want the time I spend with the lady to be something that she will enjoy and remember. Her happiness is the way I measure perfection". ~ Jericho Jericho is very skilled bdsm master. One who has the ladies going crazy to talk to and submit their every need to. How you ask? And this is one of my favorite things about this story. Who is Jericho James and how does he fit in this story. Well looks like you have to find out for yourselves. You will love it!! This story is very sexy with other elements along the way that make this one a 5 star must read. Jason brings out Jericho's character with skilled conviction. This man knows his stuff and makes so many valid points. He speaks form his heart and teaches you things with such underlying meaning. I now understand Bdsm in a new way. Its not what we always see it to be. A person taking demands over another, but a relationship with trust, feeling and understanding. Two people exploring the unknown and becoming one in a whole new world. With my eyes wide open and my mind wheeling I couldnt get enough of this story with added mystery, twists and a very emotional shocker, Jason Luke out did himself with this one! All Jason Luke's fans and even new readers, this is a must pick up! I'm not sure if there will be anymore with Jericho...oh but I hope there is! I've seen the light to many things in this story and Im intrigued, which is not the first time Jason Luke has done this to me!! "Your....your...words just left a mark on my soul." ~ April
I had read Luke's "Interview with a Master" and thought maybe I would give "The Word Master" a try. It has an interesting (if far-fetched) premise -- radio station hires an unemployed but hot-and-sexy yacht builder to be the voice of their new BDSM-themed nighttime phone-in show.
And so Jericho James, a Australian BDSM Master, assisted by his lesbian studio announcer April, is now taking calls from all the submissive wanna-be's in Boston who are yearning to find their kink. But Nancy, the station manager, pressures Jericho for a more intense BDSM experience for listeners, and so the 'sub-club' begins. Jericho will direct his audience in D/s encounters, assisted by April who eagerly volunteers as his 'focus' subject since she's discovering her own desire for submission as she assists Jericho in his demonstrations.
In a total non-surprise, we also find out that Nancy is a closet submissive who persuades a reluctant Jericho to be her Master. And then there's back office intrigue, petty jealousies, and eventually a murder. Quite a motley crew.....!
While I wasn't a fan of the book, there are a few places where Luke does a fine job of framing the D/s dynamic using Jericho's answers to his 'callers' to explain the delicate balance in a D/s relationship, and the difficulties encountered when partners don't/can't clearly communicate.
However, despite lots of sort-of group phone sex, and lots of up-close-and-personal-with-Nancy sex, it's a curiously passionless story. It's narrated by Jericho in the first person, but it's delivered in such a flat and detached manner it's as if he's reading a weather report. The characters don't really come alive - they're almost caricatures, e.g, Nancy the pain-and-humiliation-seeking sub. And lesbian April who 'converts' because "..your words just left a mark on my soul."
Sometimes Jericho doesn't seem to be quite as well-informed of a Master as you'd think. In one passage he tells Nancy "You're a ball breaker with your staff. I just can't believe that you would have a single submissive bone in that body of yours." And she replies, "...A lot of high-powered executives in the business world are secret submissives..." Duh...Wouldn't you think he'd know that already, being a Master and all....??
So..with some emotion and some character development, this could have been a 3-star.
Having thoroughly enjoyed the author's past works, I was eager for more. And I will say right off the bat that Jason Luke did not disappoint.
This story of Jericho James, his foray into late night talk radio as a former Dominant in the BDSM world was executed brilliantly. The book begins with his applying for a job in Boston at a prominent radio station, where he hopes to have an 'easy job' as he states later on, and use his knowledge of the darker side to sex to guide those in search of answers. But what Jericho doesn't plan on, is he being thrust into not only a close friendship with one of his co-workers but is also called up to be the Dominant who can reawaken the submissive in a woman he barely knows.
The use of the radio program in igniting the spark for women all over the Boston area is perfect. Jericho's nightly sub club instructions were off the charts hot. Using his newly found friend in April, as his willing volunteer in the studio for demonstration purposes only, had me swooning. I could only imagine the sexy Aussie accent of our Mr. James, giving commands over the airwaves to women craving his touch. Just so well done.
The characters are extremely well written and the way they all intersect each other's lives from beginning to end worked beautifully. The story had great flow and I found myself completely engrossed in every page. Every scene was meticulously thought out and executed in such a smart way.
Jericho's short time in this book as a Dom was extremely erotic and yet tender as well. The author seems to show the lifestyle in the proper manner, between the advice Jericho administers every night and the actual sexual acts he performs with his sub-trainee. It is thoughtfully portrayed and I actually learned a bit from the master as well!
It is a great read and well worth your time. This is not your standard love story but I was still left with a warm feeling in my heart after I read the very last lines. Jason Luke knows how to create characters with soul and their passion for life comes through loud and clear.
For the most part, I enjoyed this book. Jason Luke tells this story from the male character’s point of view. I loved that about this book. I knew what Jericho James was thinking and feeling, and as a female reader it was very intriguing. I think that this POV works great for the story because it’s about a male BDSM Master; third person or first person female would have taken away from the plot and the character of Jericho James.
So Jericho James. He’s an interesting character. He doesn’t change a lot throughout the story but you’re given a glimpse into how he’s become the Dom/Master/man that he is at the present time. I greatly appreciated that Mr. Luke gave Jericho so much depth that it felt like I was sitting in the radio booth with him. The attention to detail of not just the BDSM world, but the radio world (even if it was stretched a bit) added to the story. You’ll love Jericho and his radio world. Simply wonderful.
What didn’t I like? I didn’t like the main female character, Nancy. She was supposed to be submissive but to me she seemed like a switch (a person in the BDSM world who likes to be either a bottom (submissive) or a top (dominant). This confused me in several places throughout the book. I also felt that the relationship between her and Jericho was very forced and shouldn’t have been developed. I would have chosen a different character and just left Nancy out of that circle. There were scenes with characters that were very uncomfortable to read because again it felt forced and not natural. Those scenes could have been taken out and I don’t think it would have changed the plot or storyline.
All in all it was a good read. I’ve read other works by Jason Luke and he is very unique in his writing; I love that he uses male POV’s instead of third person. It gives a different view into BDSM through the eyes of the Dominant/Master. Try it and see what you like.
***Review has been done in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official.
Okay so my review is actually 3.5 Stars. I just can't positively give it that 4 star point because I will not recommend this book to be read.
I've been following Jason Luke's blog where he send erotic snippets to your inbox daily. I have fallen in love with his writing style through my inbox so when I got the opportunity to review this book I was really excited. But, I've put of writing this review because I've been conflicted about the book.
This story is about Jericho James, a hot BDSM Mater that is in Boston looking for a career change. He applies to the radio station and is hired to be the speaker for a new late night segment that the station is launching. I felt that the segment that Jericho was running was a bit lackluster, I felt there could have been more highlights put in there instead of a main Q&A segment for more than 1/2 of the book. The Sub-Club segment I found a lot more entertaining but was dissapointed that there was so little of it.
The rest of the book, interaction between characters, learning more about Jericho and his relationships with other characters, is what really carried me through. As his relationships develops through the story you begin to understand a little bit more about Jericho, since there is no back story this is really nice. I feel that there should have been more interaction between characters for the reader to actually latch onto. With it being more Jericho addressing radio listeners, there wasn't enough for me to fully enjoy.
Overall this book was a good piece of erotica but if you are looking for romance, there isn't any. This is straight up erotica that has some plot to it. I did enjoy reading this and will give some of Jason's other works a shot.
So what the heck have I just read? Romance? - I would say no... Self Help? - I would say no again. BDSM lesson? - I would again say no.
But here's the long and short of it, this book touches and encompasses all these things but doesn’t stick with any one of them completely.
It took me a bit to get into the flow of how this story was being delivered but once I was there I was fully invested with it and considering I couldn't stand one of the main women in this book, that in itself is a major plus that I was still ok with the whole bigger picture. It’s rare that I feel nothing towards a main character but I didn’t gel at all with Nancy. On the other hand I really connected with April. I did not like April’s partner and Cecily was a great addition to the cast as were the cringe worthy actions of Grover, God I’d loved to have kneed him in the balls on several occasions!
This was indeed a well thought out premise, extremely well delivered and really did leave you at the end with a connection to the characters you come across. Well it did me anyway. I would have liked this book to carry on further, to find out how things would progress with Jericho and his new lodgings, and this is where the element of romance but also not romance kicks in. For a book targeted at women, swooning, sexed up and raring to go from all the sultry sessions Jericho gave us, it was indeed odd but hand on heart very much refreshing that romance wasn't forefront at all of the book. Let’s face it, it’s written the Jason Luke way and therein lies why it’s different from all the rest.
I am very glad to have received a copy of The Wordmaster in return for an honest review. My reviews are my own and 100% honest.
I’m really torn about this book. Jason Luke does a wonderful job writing the descriptions and setting the scene. I enjoyed the story, but the ending just killed me.
I won’t go into any descriptions about it, but there was a lot of plot development that felt like it was leaning to something different. While I am happy with the outcome, I just have a hard time accepting how the characters arrived to that point.
It’s like a great suspense novel where the author leads the reader around and you try to guess who’s who and try to see beyond only to find out that maybe you overthought it and that it was much more simple than that.
As for characters, I really liked Jericho James and found him honorable. I may be of the few who feel this way, but I felt like the surface of character depth was merely scratched. Jericho does have a good amount of depth, but the other characters felt like they were lacking.
So, with a heavy heart I give this a four because it left me wanting more depth and complexity.
Was the story hot? Yes, but it was a slow buildup. It was like a reader seduction and if you like to dive right in to a hot story, you’ll have to be patient with this one in order to get to the hot stuff.
Again, Jason Luke writes very well and the entire novel was 99% flawless. Had there been that extra oomph of character dynamics and depth then I would have given this a higher rating.
I will do my best for this review to make sense, because after that HOT book, I think my brain has melted. I am not so sure my grasp on the English language is there anymore.
So, if you just read the above, I said this book was HOT. What that means on a scale of one to panty soaker is, just don’t even bother to put them on in the first place. (I will post a warning I feel should be attached to this book at the end of my review.) If you are at all, even just 5%, interested in the culture that is BDSM, you want to read this book. There is nothing brutal above a spanking. If I were to venture into the lifestyle, this is the type of Master I would have.
Ok, and the story line… While there were some liberties taken, it was overall a very good story. The story is written in first person and in the view point of the Master. Jericho gets a job at a radio station as the “on air master” from midnight to 4am. What he doesn’t expect is the out pouring of calls, and maybe even a stalker!
I will not give away anything more, you will have to read it yourself!
** Warning: Do not read in public. Do not read without the ability to squirm like a 4 year old. Do not read if you are unable to find an outlet for your tension. Do not read if you are at all disturbed by hot, sexy, alpha Aussie blokes who are also BDSM Masters and can make you wet with just a whisper. Do not read unless you have time to read; you will not want to put the book down. **
Jericho James where are you...because I want you!!! This man is everything that a women needs and wants. He is sexy, amazing, and hot he is the full package and more. He used to be a BDSM Master and now he is looking for a change and the perfect opportunity just fell into his lap. Jericho working for a late-night Boston talk radio station. I for one am would be happy if he join our local late night radio station because I would be tuning into it every single night. So keep in mind that this isn't your average segment. Let me just say that reading this book has my mind racing and when you get to the part of the book where he starts you have a club via the radio.....Holy cheese and rice....it is HOT AS HECK!!! This Australian BDSM Master will leave you and everyone else satisfied. April is is co-worker and she has some secrets but lets face it, we all have them. I really liked when Jericho teamed up with April for the Sub-Club segment. Lets just say Jason Luke did such a phenomenal job writing this book that you want actually visualize Jericho giving you lessons, and that is all I will say! I really loved this book. The characters in this book are all amazing and different in their very own way. I have to say that my favorite character was Cecily.... I am kidding my favorite is Jericho. I honestly believe that anything Jason Luke writes and continues to write will be gold! I think I have officially cheated on Jonah Noble with Jericho James!
