Breaking Ground

Rate this book
Madeline Chadwick is a woman of silk, pinstripes, and cold, hard logic. As Chicago’s most lethal "Ice Queen" attorney, she’s spent her life building a fortress around her heart. But when she’s sent back to her rain-soaked Oregon hometown to handle a failing multi-million-dollar project, her carefully curated world starts to fray at the edges. Because standing in her way is the one woman who doesn't care about the Chadwick name, or the rules Madeline lives by.

Alex Gray is a woman of sawdust, grease, and unfiltered grit.

The local contractor is as prickly as the Douglas firs surrounding her cabin and just as unyielding. She’s the town’s resident villain, a woman who works with her hands and lives by her own code. She hates everything Madeline represents. She hates her expensive perfume, her sharp tongue, and even sharper suits.

When the job site is sabotaged, the rivalry turns into a siege.

Forced into a high-stakes alliance by a town that wants them both to fail, Madeline and Alex find themselves trapped in a game where the only thing more dangerous than the secrets they’re uncovering is the white-hot attraction burning between them.

In the middle of a relentless storm, the pinstripes come off. The Ice Queen finally meets her match in the woman who knows exactly how to make her shatter. But when the dust settles and the masks are gone, will they be partners in a war, or two strangers who let the fire consume them?

Some foundations are built to last. Others are meant to be broken.

An intriguing second chance romance with enemies to lovers

I loved the mystery besides the second chance at romance and the enemies to lovers tropes. The author did an awesome job with the story and characters. The story kept me flipping pages but the characters gripped me hard til the end. Nicely done.
