Suffering from a severe case of writer's block, mystery novelist Amelia Landry seeks refuge in the Scottish Highlands, hoping that her stay in a remote fourteenth-century tower will restore her imagination, but she gets more than she had bargained for in the ghostly person of Laird Ethan Munro, who has been waiting for centuries to find out why he is neither dead nor alive. Original.
Cindy Miles is the best-selling author of twelve novels, one anthology and three short stories. She also writes as Elle Jasper, and grew up on the salt marshes of the Vernon River in Savannah, Georgia.
A very sweet romance between a modern day girl, Amelia Landry, and a cursed highland laird, Ethan Munro.
Amelia meets Ethan in a haunted tower in Scotland, where he has been residing with 5 other highlanders since the 14th century. Ethan and his clan buddies were cursed during a battle and are now living a ghostly existence caught between two worlds, not alive but not dead either. They can be seen and heard, but they only have substance one hour a day during dusk, and they cannot leave Munro land.
Amelia works writing mysteries and she has lost her muse. The trip to Scotland was supposed to inspire her, but instead she finds herself unearthing the mystery surrounding a rowdy bunch of highlanders who befriend her and protect her from an "evil" spirit. She is a fun heroine, quirky and outgoing.
A romance blossoms between Amelia and Ethan, and we get a lot of funny scenes. . Most concepts are very far-fetched, but the story is meant to be entertaining and fun. The romance scenes are very light but very sweet, and Ethan is absolutely adorable!
I love Cindy Miles books. I read the first book in this series a few years ago and loved it. Didn't realize it was part of a series(I read it 3 times before I knew). I now own and have read all 3 and they are wonderful. If you love hunky men, ghosts and some serious spicy romance then these books are for you!!
I read Cindy Miles first two books "Into Thin Air" and "Spirited Away" and enjoyed them both. I was looking forward to "Highland Knight" and was definately not disappointed. Her books are about ghosts...ghosts looking for a way to no longer be ghosts. Her heroines are kickbutt! No wimpy whiners here and I like that. There's also a ton of humor in these books, and romance plus well-done humor is always a winner for me.
Amelia is an author who has hit a block. She also enjoys the spooky side of life, probably because she was born near midnight on Halloween! So her best friend and assistant books her into a haunted highlands castle to help her get her writing groove back. Imagine her surprise and delight when she's approached by not one, but six! braw highland ghosties.
Ethan Munro, AKA the Bluidy Munro, has gotten a really bad rap. He and his warriors disappeared off a battle field and have been cursed for seven centuries since then. They can only appear to those receptive to them and every day at the gloaming, they are incorporate. They've been looking for someone who can help break this ?curse? ever since.
Imagine: one woman and six highlanders, an iPod, a story waiting to be written, tae kwan doe, sword fighting, kisses in the gloaming, an enchantment, wrongs righted. There is also a lot of sexual tension in this book, but no consummation until the very end (the whole gloaming thing, remember?). And I still enjoyed the whole thing!
Plagued by writers block, the heroine assistant books her a 3 month stay a reportedly haunted Scottish castle and the heroine, who loves anything scary or creepy, is super excited. Hopefully this will be the means to get her juices flowing again after her breakup with her ex fiancé which left her stuck and unable to put anything worth anything on paper.
Upon arrival, she is confronted by the beautiful but secluded property and... she immediately encounters an actual ghost! Scared out her wits, instead of running away like a normal person would, she instead feels a rush of excitement. The hero and his group of enchanted knights have not experienced such an aware person previously and certainly not one so beautiful as this own. Not only is she more in tune with himself and the other ghosts of the castle but she seems to actually enjoy all the tricks he and his men play on her upon first acquaintance.
For the first time in over 700 years he has hope that someone will manage to break the curse on them. As time passes, the heroine settles in to her new surroundings and her new ghostly companions. She comes to enjoy their company and in particular she comes to enjoy and anticipate time spent with the hero. They share long conversations and become friends quickly but both are very much aware of the growing affections between them.
The heroine is not the type to kiss on the first date and though she is majorly attracted to her ghostly laird, she waits until they know each other a bit better. When they finally kiss, both know that what lies between them is special and without a doubt something worth fighting for.... It's hard for them to imagine that some day soon the heroine will leave but before that day comes to pass they must first deal with the heroes curse.
With visions of clues in the heroines dreams and threats from another ghostly enemy whispering in the heros ear all the horrible things that will happen to the heroine if he persists in courting her, the mystery seems destined to remain hidden. But if the heroine is nothings she is persistent and though she may risk losing him forever, she can't let him continue on with his half existence any longer. All she can hope for is that somehow and someway he will return to her.
Okay, while I liked this book to an extent, I found the overall plotline rather pointless and a bit lazy. First off, the mystery behind the heroes curse was lackluster at best and honestly, it felt very much like a haphazard attempt to create a plotline at all. Most of the focus was on the main characters rather plain courtship and the mundane routine of their days in the castle. The mystery was not well thought out and was defiantly a second thought.
The heroine and hero, while cute in their developing relationship were both rather plain themselves. The hero was a ghost, cursed by an unknown entity nearly 700 years ago to only take physical form 1 hour of every night. He was not tortured or dark in any way other than his fear of being the cause of the death of every woman whom he's ever loved. He was rarely known to smile before the heroine comes into the picture and he was instantly enchanted by the odd and quirky female.
The heroine was an author looking for a change. Always one to enjoy the creepy and the scary in life she embraced her new haunted surroundings with open arms. My issue with these characters and this book in general was just how general they were.
Nothing really exciting, nothing really imaginative about any aspects of the book. Just basic and sort of there. While I didn't hate it, I wanted something more from it. Something out of reach.
Book #9 of 2009 These last two books have been such quick and easy reads that it feels a bit like cheating. Anyway, I craved romance and missed the library book sale, so I went looking for one to borrow. This was OK, a pretty fun read, even if there were glaring errors, gaping holes, plot lines started that never went anywhere, a lack of sex (I mean, come on! I thought that's what romances were for) and extremely repetitve descritptions of the two Main Characters physical traits. I mean, I get it already! He's incredibly sexy and has chopped off more than one person's head. But, I wasn't expecting War and Peace, so this was a fun read. One plus is that the female lead didn't lose all of her self-sufficiency once she met "the love of her life" as is often the case in romances. Borrowed from the library.
Gorgeous Ghostly Highlanders My little bookworm heart was set ablaze! After reading Forevermore I was totally hooked and couldn't get my hands on Highland Knight fast enough Cindy Miles books are dangerously addictive! I fell head over heels in love with Amelia & Ethan the chemistry between them is absolutely sizzling! Highland Knight has everything I love in a paranormal romance mystery forbidden love mischief lol funny humor a Sassy kickass heroine and Tall dark N drop dead sexy hero with a Scottish burr that will make U swoon! hehe ;) The ending was perfect and will leave U craving more! Cindy Miles Plz keep writing We need stories about Ethan's Celtic warriors finding love!!!
Unfortunately, the summary sounded more interesting than the actual story. Got to about the 100 page mark and it just didn't hold my interest. Situations were interesting enough, but the telling was just...blah...
I couldn't finish this one:( I really enjoyed the first book I read by this author, Into Thin Air, but this one was so just darn repetitive. I wanted to love it, I really did...but I just couldn't.
I really liked the first half of the book but the second half left me with a lot of questions and I felt like the middle of the book dragged a little. I also got tired of hearing Ethan was 700 years old - we get it, he's old!
The Munros need to "go back" to make things right but going back doesn't change anything that happened - so how do they break the curse? Not really explained that they did anything to change the curse.
The "good ghost" is barely a whisper with hints here and there throughout the book until the very end where wham, the ghost has the power to send them back and forth in time. What? Or maybe the good ghost can send them forward in time now that the curse is lifted? Maybe. Doesn't make sense either way.
And the "bad ghost" seems to be powerful until they go back in time and then suddenly that person has no power. Doesn't make sense again.
I did like the chemistry between Ethan and Amelia (although sometimes her "witty" character traits got a little old) and really enjoyed the banter among the other Munros. I enjoyed the scene setting and really felt like I was there with Amelia and I loved Ethan's character and the way she wrote the dialogue.
I do like her writing and the premise of this and her other books but the explanation of some things just doesn't add up for me (a short story of hers I had the same issue as to why a dead ghost was somehow a living/breathing man at the end - except that he loved the heroine and realized he'd made a mistake - wow, if only!). So because the ending didn't exactly work for me (in how they ended up there) and I felt the book dragged on a little too long, I can only give 3 stars.

A mystery novelist with a big case of writer’s block heads off to a haunted manor in Scotland hoping it’ll inspire her. It’s definitely haunted, as it’s inhabited by a burly group of medieval warriors who take physical form for one hour each day before twilight. She (shockingly 😆) finds herself drawn to the hot hot leader of the crew and together they all set out to figure out the enchantment. Good and bad forces make themselves known at the same time that their feelings start to grow. ❤️
Super cute story! Forewarning: they only have sex at the very end (😫) but there are some great make outs. Some questions I have though: how will he get a license? How will he ever travel? What happens if he needs a doctor?! Sometime I want an author to tackle all these issues when people come to the future.
So I didn't know this was going to be so...mm...what's the word? No burn? There was a whole lot of reference to god and the romance was so friendly it felt like middle school. If you're looking for a hot romantic or erotic burn, this isn't it. The characters had warm kissing but that's it. There were a TON of repetitive statements/words that really distracted the reader. Sometimes the male MC had an accent and sometimes he didn't. Maybe it was so the reader could read it easier in their head? I don't know. The characters were fun and the setting was beautiful, so it made for a cute historical fantasy. It also didn't have any real surprises or hold-your-breath moments, which isn't a bad thing sometimes. If you need a book to make you smile and not get you heated, then this is a good choice.
Amelia has been suffering writers block and after a year her assistant and best friend Zuzu sends her to Scotland to a haunted castle. The castle is indeed haunted by Ethan and his warriors that were enchanted and have been stuck in limbo for 700 years. Ethan senses Amelia can help them so he reveals himself. As they become close a bad presence threatens their relationship. Amelia is a fun character. She takes the haunting as fun and it breaks her writer’s block as she tries to help the guys. Ethan is wary of any relationship with Amelia, as he doesn’t have a good track record concerning women, but he’s sure Amelia can help them. This is a a fun, fast enjoyable read. I would read more books by this author.
Definitely not my favorite romance I've ever read. It wasn't terrible though, and I did choose it for my bad YA book club this month. (We are doing romance novels). The plot was a little hard to believe, and I had a hard time caring about the mystery...maybe concentrating more on that would have made it more believable. Of course, this was a book about an impossible love situation and it was far better than some I've read, like Twilight.
This was a wonderful read. VERY hard to put down. I was hooked from the first page. The camaraderie between the Highland Knights and Amelia were some of the best parts of the book for me! Then you add in the quirky personality of our heroine, Amelia, her great sense of humor, a very well told mystery, and hunky Ethan, and well...you've got one heck of a great romance book!
I'm off to read the other ones now, thanks Cindy Miles!
Amelia Landry is a writer, but after the break-up with her boyfriend, she lost her inspiration and it seems she isn’t able to get it back. But Amelia’s best friend helps her out and gives her ticket to Scotland, where Amelia will be staying at the 14th century Munro Keep, hoping it will give her back the inspiration to finish a book in time.
Strange things happens at the Munro Keep and Amelia is about to find out what exactly. She meets this sexy highlander Ethan Munro, an ancient Celtic warrior, draped in plaid and silver bands circling his biceps and he isn’t alone. It seems Ethan and his men were caught in battle in 1303 when a heavy mist made and cursed them to be invisible forever. Only one hour a day, just before twilight, the men are able to become substance, so they can feel and eat again.
Amelia finds it fascinating and wants to do anything in her power to help Ethan and his men to break the curse, even if this means she loose the man she became to love by sending them back to their own time.
Highland Knight by Cindy Miles is a great novel to read, it’s full of great characters and funny scenes. I definitely found myself smiling a couple of times reading this novel.
Amelia lost her inspiration when her boyfriend dumps her, the only thing she wants to do is sleep and eating. But her best friend forces her to take a vacation, so she can get her mojo back and finish her novel. First Amelia doesn’t want to go, but after some persuasions she leaves to Scotland, not knowing what will be waiting for her there. The moment she arrive at Munro Keep, she knows there is something wrong there and is determined to find out what. So when she meets Ethan Munro and his men and learn their story, she will do anything in her power to help them. Even if this means she will loose them by sending them back in time, to their home.
I have to be honest about this book, it’s definitely a funny read, but I believe it’s not the best book Cindy Miles wrote. I’ve read the previous novels Into thin air & Spirited away and when I compare the books by its style and humor, the other two are definitely better. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t like the book and I’m really looking forward to read the next novel.
Amelia Landry is a mystery writer in a funk. To get her out of said funk, her best friend/publicist arranges for Amelia to spend the summer in a tower house in the highlands of Scotland.
Ethan Munro and his five kinsmen are not-quite-dead not-quite-ghosts. Seven hundred years ago they were enchanted into a state of perpetual in-between: they can interact with each other, be seen by and interact with those who are particularly receptive, but only physically materialize during the gloaming (twilight) hour each day. They do not know why they are in this state - except that it has something to do with the unsolved murder of Ethan's wife, Devina.
Highland Knight was a funny, enchanting (please excuse the pun) book - not surprising, given Miles' first two books, Spirited Away and Into Thin Air. I read it in roughly 24 hours, racing through the first two thirds in the first night, and savoring the last third throughout the following day. I cannot wait for Miles' next book, due (I believe) early in 2009.
I was really looking forward to this book after finally getting to it on my reading list, and even though it fell a little flat for me, I liked it. I even plan to read more books by this author. The reason it fell flat for me was the heroine. I could never imagine disliking a romance heroine and continuing on with the story, but I did it. Amelia was...annoying at first. She did grow on me a bit though, but overall I found her to be too squeaky. The story itself was fun and bubbly - a nice easy and comfortable read. I loved "the guys," but I also had a hard time connecting with them as well, until I found out what had happened to them - it was, well, heartbreaking. I felt so bad for Amelia, not being able to get anyone's attention as she sees what is happening and feeling completely helpless. Then when she went back, there was nothing left. I totally felt her devastation. So even though the characters were a little disappointing, the story here was worth it - and I am so glad I stuck with it.
I have absolutely loved every book I've read of Cindy Miles and this was no exception. Amelia Landry travels to Scotland to try and break a case of writers block. As a mystery writer she has little trouble excepting the fact that the castle she stays at is haunted. What takes a little longer for her to accept is that she falls in love with the Ethan, the Highlander warrior ghost in residence. What makes this better than a typical romance novel is that there is something very threatening trying to destroy all throughout the book and the mystery surrounding why kept me on edge the entire time.
Amelia is an american author with writer block. With an intervention by her bff and assistant Zuzu she sends Amelia to a haunted tower house in Scotland. While there she learns she has a 6th sense and can see and hear Spectors and all 6 of them are hot but Ethan is is sexiest. Now with a inspiration to write and a mystery to solve. Her love for Ethan grows but she knows she will loose him and the whole crew. With a evil ghost on the loose and a good one trying to help her will she be able to set the Munro boys free and heal her heart.
Amelia Landry is suffering from writer's block, so her best friend rents a tower in a Scottish castle for her to seek some inspiration. What she gets is six enchanted Highland knights and some spooky ghosts. Ethan and his relatives are able to corporalize for one hour every day, and Amelia soon finds herself falling fast for the knight. They work together to try and clear the mystery of Ethan's past so that he and his relatives can break the enchantment cast on them.
Slightly entertaining characters make this read mindless fun. Fluffy paranormal romance at its best. If your looking for something light to take to the beach, then this ones for you!
Amelia is an author who was having trouble writing a book. She stayed in her apartment, eating spray cheese and staring at a computer screen. Then her best friend, organises her a holiday to Scotland and stay at a haunted castle. It just so happens to be the home of a group of cursed highlanders. Amelia falls for the highlander's leader Ethan.
Such a sweet book and mysterious and creepy. Also quiet hilarious when the cursed men discover modern technology. I reccomed this book to anyone that loves a short and sweet romance story.
This was the first of Cindy's books I read. I finished it at 1:49 am this morning. I LOVED this book. The writing was good, I enjoyed the characters immensely. The sensual scenes only involved kissing up until the very end of the book, which I liked. I hate when sex scene after sex scene takes away from the story. This was romance! Probably the best romance I have read in quite a while.
This had all the potential to be a really great story--instead it was just okay. There were some really good moments in there, but also some ho-hum boring ones. Somewhere in the middle, it got repetitive--I sort of felt like I was reading exactly the same thing that I had in the previous chapter, just told a little differently. Can't decide if I should try another one of hers or not--I like the way she does the ghost/time travel aspect.
This is what I would call a "beach read". It's light, not very deep, and it's a fairly short book. My issue is that it paled in comparison to other books I have read. Lynn Kurland writes a similar genre of books, but the writing is much more provocative, detailed, and captures my attention better. Had I read Cindy Miles first, that might not be the case. But after reading the real deal, I don't like the imitation all that much.
Picked it up because it sounded interesting. It was a good read but not one that I would probably go back and reread. So of the plot lines were a little predictable but still a nice easy read. If you are really into the historical time travel books, I would stick with Lynn Kurland since the history is a bit more accurate.
I really enjoyed this book! I had read one of Cindy Miles' stories in an anthology, which lead me to look for more of her books. I felt that this book was more "romantic" than many of the other romance books out there. The kind of romance that makes you smile (and sigh) as you are reading. I definitely will be reading more books by this author!
