When a mission in New York City goes terribly wrong, Sienna Nealon finds herself replaced as head of the government agency in charge of policing people with powers beyond those of a normal human. Marginalized, humiliated, she ponders her place in the world now that her war is over. But it isn't long before another threat rears its ugly head, and Sienna finds herself outmatched and outgunned – against former prisoners bent on executing a scheme which will push Sienna past limits of ruthlessness even she could not imagine.
Robert J. Crane was born and raised on Florida's Space Coast before moving to the upper midwest in search of cooler climates and more palatable beer. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in English Creative Writing. He worked for a year as a substitute teacher and worked in the financial services field for seven years while writing in his spare time.
I was worried when reading the first two books of this next part of Sienna's life because the storyline just didn't come close to that of The Girl In the Box, at least for me. But, this brought back not only the badassery of Sienna, but her creative dialogue between herself and the people in her head. It brought back the familiar banter between the characters involved! I loved the first series and now am looking forward to book four!
Last i've read a book from this series was back in 2015. And i'm so happy i picked this series back up - i remember why it's part of my favourites.
I love the Sienna and Reed relationship ; he's pretty cool himself, but Sienna is the leader of that dynamic duo and i'm loving the feel of a woman in charge, and of a strong man intelligent enough to accept when i woman is strong enough to lead.
It being 5 years since i read the last book did have it's drawback ; i found myself forgetting about a lot of details that are pretty important, as in ; what's up with Scott? What happened between him and Sienna. Did he forget some things about their past relationship? Where's Siennas mother? Did she kill her? I can't seem to remember, and i sure am not going to pick all these books back up to find out what happened 😅 haha - so if anyone reading this could help me out ; that would be really appreciated.
The writting is always excellent with this author, and like i said earlier; really happy i picked it back up, i'll be reading the next one soon for sure!
the soap opera continues...... Sienna finally gets a dog.... kills people without remorse. Its not even worth trying to remember the names because a few chapters later their dead. If you have read the previous books this is the same thing.
I think by taking away the powers have me a sense of what sienna can really do. And her not being in charge gives her the freedom to duck shit up and what are they gonna do fire her???? Bahahabahaa NEVER!
Four Russian metas take hostages during a party at the compound. Sienna proceeds to do what she does best and adds to her kill count. Nice addition to the series.
Enjoyable to have a story where Sienna has to fight without her powers. I would moan that it was so unrealistic but none of the series is particularly realistic. I enjoyed the dialogue and the story. The character of Simmons seems a little unfleshed out and underdeveloped but enjoyable nonetheless.
I can’t believe they’re free again to cause more problems and issues. Although it makes sense that sienna’s past is catching up with her too. I don’t want to share too much but this is definitely a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
So I've read the 13th Girl in the box 60 book series. It was one of the most interesting so far. Sienna is becoming more interesting as she grows. It's on to number 14.
Love all the action going on in these books! The plot twists and turns and just keeps you entranced! There is a surprise that if you've read the series you will absolutely love!
Sienna foils a bank robbery planned by "the brain" Cassidy, who later hires 4 Russian metas to kill Sienna & rescue a prisoner from the robbery. I really liked this one.
Have enjoyed every one of this series so far but have been ready them one after the other so taking a break, wouldn't want to get bored with them (and there appear to be loads more!)
Loads of action, suspense, intrigue, character building and plots within plots. Amazing series if you enjoy being on the edge of your seat the whole time!
The usual fare, from this author. A good ol’ action romp, a bit Die Hard-esque. Fun read! I promised a friend I would read all of these, so I’m in it for a while yet 😅
We are SO back. I was hesitant to start this because I really didn't enjoy #12, but this took me right back to the core of what the series is about: Sienna being a badass and fighting overwhelming odds. This has got me reinvested in the series after the change from Girl in The Box (1-10) to Out of The Box.
Opening the book learning about four metahumans having been in prison for thirty years in a Russian cell without seeing the light of day or being without chains sparked my attention and got me thinking about the possible plotline to this book. Great start.
I hated the politics in this book and was angry quite a bit reading. I wanted Sienna to seek revenge for the things that appeared to me as unnecessary harassment and belittling of my girl. I admired her constraint. I was rooting for Sienna to quit and let the agency deal with the evil that was to come on their own...serve them right and maybe teach them a lesson and take the smugness out of them. Yeah, right...politicians will always be vial, self serving and uninterested in the needs of the public...as long as things are "perceived" in a good light for them. I'm still bitter as to what was done to Sienna by the government in this election year!
Sienna had to deal with another metahuman, who hates her and once again plotting her demise while also having to take a back seat in her agency controlling the metahumans. Good to see Reed working beside her. Did I see Scott? J.J. is becoming a special member of the "team". The "voices" in her head, to me, were giving sound advice. Appreciate how they all work together helping Sienna see a more comprehensive view of life, especially in her demanding capacity as leader, protector.
Another good book in this Out of The Box series. Recommend it. Will have to wait until June when the next book is to be released. Can't wait...love me some Sienna.
It was great to see that Sienna is able to overcome the baddies even if her meta powers are neutralized. She apparently followed up on her resolution to stay in fighting condition after her confessed lapse in the previous book. All of her training comes into play and she owes a great deal of credit to the mentor she murdered. She might be even more of a powerhouse had she assimilated him instead of gunning him down.
The newly released Soviet prisoner's characters really aren't developed as much as they could have been. We do discover what meta power each of them has and that's about it. Earthquake boy's girlfriend is the brains of the operation. We still don't find out much about her but we do know that her plan to get him out of jail worked. The other four were expendable.
Obviously she and earthquake boy will make an appearance in the future.

Yet another ace story about Sienna. I liked that she was still able to do what she needed to do by simply relying on all the military training she had undergone. Truly highlighting just what a lethal weapon she actually is. Nice that the good doctor, now brother Reed's girlfriend has not relinquished any of her distate toward Sienna, but does do the medic thing when she has to. Also interesting to have the lovely Ariadne in a twist in the tale. The whole story bounced along famously until I turned the page and learnt there was nothing more. It crept up on me by surprise and was definatley a "NO!" moment. Nice cliff hanger Robert lol. Now can't wait for book 4
If you read the prequel series "The Girl in the Box" this book will seem awfully familiar to Book #6 "Broken". While the motivation in both books are different (one features self defense and the other features revenge) they both show Sienna doing what she does best: taking lives and kicking ass. As a middle book in a long series "Ruthless" serves to further develop Sienna's character and helps to endear her to you. My only real critique is that this novel is like one big action flick, lots of action and effects but no real movement in the time frame of Sienna's life, the bulk of the tale covers one night. And although alot happens in that one night, it still ends up feeling like a filler.
I hurried forward and looked into the room to my left. It was a chemistry lab with a sweeping view of the snowy terrain outside, complete with large black islands in the middle of the room, independent sinks with an eyewash and a shower in the corner, silver fixtures with gas taps to run experiments with fire— Hrmm. Hmmmmmmmmm. Hehehehehe.
I could not stop laughing my a$$ off when I read this. This book is amazing. Sienna Nealon is amazing. And most of all, Robert J. Crane is amazing for creating this incredible universe a person can get lost in for a few hours when reading it.
