Part The Secret of Secrets, part Fear and Loathing—this twisty psychological thriller will shatter your reality. Neuroscientist Evelyn Malcolm has built her life on reason: formulas, clean data, the illusion of control. But when the man she secretly loves turns up dead, everything implodes. She finds herself accused of his murder and interrogated alongside her estranged twin Vivian, a volatile mystery writer and wayward addict, whose matching DNA is found at the scene. But which sister committed the crime? When the twins are abducted and thrust into a kaleidoscopic world of psychedelic drugs, buried trauma, and whispered CIA experiments, Evelyn begins to doubt everything—her research, her memories, even her sanity. Haunted by what she can't remember and terrified of what she might, she's forced to reconcile with the sister she doesn't trust to clear her name and stop a looming catastrophe. As science and delusion blur, Evelyn faces a terrifying question: what if the real monster is the one wearing her face? Propulsive, hallucinatory, and darkly funny, My Twin the Murderer is a psychological thriller about sisters, trauma, and the weaponization of consciousness—where nothing is quite as it seems, and the person you know best may be the one you should fear most.
Lindsay Kent, aka The Hallucinarrator, is a filmmaker and psychedelic historian whose work explores the intersection of storytelling, consciousness, and psychological transformation. Her work spans decades, from global feature films and streaming series to campaigns for nonprofits and Fortune 500s. Her 2016 cult documentary Going Furthur retraced the electric pulse of America’s counterculture, while Plant Medicine dives deep into the visionary heart of an Ayahuasca retreat center in Costa Rica. With years of research into the cultural and emotional impact of altered states, she brings a rare combination of narrative craft and intellectual depth to the thriller genre. Her writing bridges art and awakening—using fiction as a way to make complex inner experiences accessible, human, and emotionally grounded. My Twin the Murderer is her debut novel. She lives in Half Moon Bay, California, with her husband Jim and their four-legged comic relief, Bodhi. Her twin lives five minutes away—and so, in a very real sense, so does she.
Looking for a fast-paced psychological thriller that will keep you on your toes from start to finish? I’ve got you.
Coincidentally, it’s release day for debut author Lindsay Kent’s book My Twin the Murd3rer, and I’m so happy to be part of the Books Forward PR-hosted Book Tour.
I’ve read a few books with identical twins, and I must say I’ve always been fascinated by this theme. Though these two characters, Evie and Vivian, look identical, they couldn’t be more different in terms of personality and lifestyle. But when it comes to a serious crime that is committed, and Evie, a neuroscientist involved with mind-control experiments, is accused of a shmurder involving a man she loves, the DNA found matches both her and her twin. The twin that she hasn’t seen or has a relationship with.
The story is quite exciting, as well as the subplot with the detective, Schott. Schott has his own issues that intertwine and are essential to the story. The concept of questioning one’s memory, distinguishing between reality and dreams—that was truly captivating. I loved the plot twist! It was one of those set-down-the-book—think about everything, then resume reading—situations. And what an ending! Wow!
Thank you so much, Books Forward, and Author Lindsay Kent, for the #gifted advance copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Read this book if you like: psychological thrillers, fast paced reads, who to trust?, and government conspiracies
Spice: none
Evelyn Malcolm is a neuroscientist that lives a quiet orderly life. Everything under control. Not like her addict twin sister. But when both of them are accused of murder, she finds herself running for her life with her sister. Soon they are caught up in a world of drugs and psychedelics and government conspiracies. As Evelyn spirals, not knowing who to trust, she begins to question everything she’s ever believed about herself and how the world works.
This book is fast paced and exciting. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next! The characters captured my imagination and the plot kept me guessing. With the addition of psychedelic drugs, the plot was wild. The ending was so exciting! I really enjoyed this book and I recommend it to anyone who likes thrillers.
Fast-paced. Tense. Had my brain working overtime. 🫠
I was trying to piece everything together from the very beginning, but every time I thought I knew where the story was going, it threw another twist my way. I loved the POV because it made me feel like I was right there with Evelyn, trying to separate what was real from what wasn’t.
The mix of psychological suspense, family drama, and mystery kept me hooked, and I flew through this one because I needed answers. While I guessed a couple of things, there were still moments that caught me completely off guard.
If you love thrillers that keep you questioning everything and leave you second-guessing every character, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a read.
What a wild ride! This is a colourful, imaginative thriller packed with twists that kept me guessing from beginning to end. Just when I thought I had worked out what was happening, the story took another unexpected turn and completely changed the game. The mystery surrounding the initial murder is compelling enough on its own, but the novel goes far beyond a standard whodunit. The blend of psychological suspense, buried trauma, mind-bending experiments, create a vivid, unsettling world that is impossible to look away from. The relationship between the sisters adds genuine emotional depth, and the constant question of who can be trusted makes for a gripping read. Clever, original, and full of surprises, this is the kind of thriller that reminds you why you love the genre.
🧠 What if the person accused of murder shares your face and your DNA?
I was completely pulled into My Twin the Murderer by Lindsay Kent. This twisty psychological thriller blends murder, family secrets, trauma, and mind-bending science into a story that kept me guessing. Evelyn and Vivian's complicated twin relationship added emotional depth, while the mystery had me questioning what was real right alongside the characters. The pacing occasionally slowed for me, but the suspense, shocking reveals, and unsettling atmosphere made it a compelling read overall.
✨️Thank you to Books Forward PR and Lindsay Kent for sharing My Twin the Murderer with me!
I really enjoyed this one! If you're looking for wild plot twists in the same vein as "The Silent Patient," then this one will not disappoint. This is part thriller, part government conspiracy mystery that's written in such a fast-paced psychadelic-inducing prose. Couldn't put it down! You'll love this if you're interested in Mk Ultra or other CIA-adjacent theories and if you love a plot-driven book with wild twists and turns! Can't wait to see what Kent does next!
I loved this novel and found it incredibly hard to put down. A fantastic psychological thriller!
Combining unique takes on both the "mad scientist" and "conspiracy theory" tropes, My Twin the Murder is provocative and vividly cinematic. It's the perfect thriller - suspenseful, action-packed, twisty and perfectly paced. Lindsay Kent's psychological precision makes this novel that much more mind-bending and enticing.
Two identical twin sisters (although nothing alike) are arrested for a murder. What happens next makes this a fast-paced psychological thriller, that’s for sure. With psychedelic drugs, repressed memories, possible CIA experiments makes this a roller-coaster of an experience. Although, well written and full of exciting themes, I couldn’t contact with the characters like I wanted to, except for maybe the detective assigned to their case, Detective Schott.
This books was such a trip in the best way possible. I found myself picking it up anytime I had free time. I genuinely felt like i didnt know where the plot was going or who did it. If you love " The Silent Patient" then this is the book for you. It kept me entertained and literally had me standing at a white board trying to put the pieces together. Great read. Thank you to the Author for the ARC copy
Absolutely twisted. I had no idea where this was going. It kept me engaged and guessing. It’s written in a fast pace, which was great; it helps keep the suspense up. There are so many questions running around in your head throughout the book. Not knowing what’s what. Entertained and at the end of my seat.
