Nick: Okay, so making a viral video mocking my celebrity crush's pretentious apartment tour isn’t exactly a strategy for finding love. And when some random guy slides into my DMs claiming to be Anthony Devine—Grammy-winning pop star, LGBTQ+ icon, and owner of cheekbones that should be illegal—I do what any rational person would do. I assume he's a forty-five-year-old catfish living in his mom's basement. Except we start chatting and somehow it’s the most real conversation I’ve had for ages. One month and approximately five thousand messages later, AntD has become my favorite person to talk to. He sends me Baby Yoda memes, asks about my assignments and actually listens when I rant about my cheating ex. And it's become our standing joke, him insisting he really is Anthony Devine. Hilarious, right? My friends say I need to stop catching feelings for a guy whose real name I don't even know. But meeting him would mean risking everything we've built. Stepping out of our perfect digital bubble. Finally finding out who he actually is. What if he's not who he says he is? What if he is? Not Just Texting is a swoony MM novella about finding real connection in the digital age, featuring a broke college student with too many posters on his wall and the one catfish who might actually be the real deal.
Jax's stories are all about light-hearted conversations and deeply-felt connections. She loves exploring exactly why two characters are the only ones who’ll make the other truly happy, and the journey they take to reach their happily-ever-after.

Jax Calder said in her newsletter this is inspired by how she and her husband fell in love, which I ADORE and love for her. Can’t wait to read this! And a week early, to boot! Thanks to Jax Calder for offering it early to newsletter subscribers.
This was so cute! I think I had (and still have) a permanent smile on my face for the last 50 pages or more. (IIRC, it’s only around 130 pages, so that’s saying something.)
I don’t think it was my favorite of Jax Calder’s, but that’s possibly because pop/rock star romances are also not my favorite. HOWEVER, that trope gave her some really great plot opportunities! I think the best was the moment Nick finds out it’s actually Anthony Devine he’s been messaging for a month.
Jax Calder is still my absolute favorite novella writer, even though this wasn’t my absolute favorite novella of hers. It was funny, adorable, incredibly sweet, and very heartwarming. And thinking about how much this story meant to her while reading it just upped my enjoyment. Some of the comments from Nick and Anthony about how getting to know who someone truly is and falling in love with their brain were just … sigh. So lovely.
4.5⭐️ for an excellent novella. Don’t know how she keeps doing it! I started reading and didn’t put it down until I finished.
I was in a slump and got a newsletter from this author. Bought this book on the author website via bookfunnel. I rarely bought books because its so expensive here in canada, but This one was exactly what I was looking for. It makes me forget all about my stress and just laught and feel silly and fluffy all the way thrue.
Both were lost. one was loosing himself in his succeesful carreer. and the other one has lost a part of hum in his last breakup. when one decide to do a viral video mocking his favorite singer, and say singer decide to get to know the guy.... sparks can fly even thru a cell phone screen. But could they gave a chance and meet up?!!!

I love this Queer Ways to Fall in Love series! Every time I think Jax has written her best story yet, she turns around and writes another one, and my favorite changes yet again. This story was an absolute delight from start to finish! Nick and Anthony have a charming meet-cute that blossoms into love and a swoon-worthy HEA, and answers the question about whether you can fall in love before you meet face to face. Don’t miss this charming, funny, banter-filled gem from Jax Calder!
Yeah this was adorable. I was able to read this early since I subscribe to the author’s newsletter.
I am a big fan of mistaken identity, as well as romances that feature characters falling for each other over text/email/phone calls. It Started With A Text has both.
Nick and Anthony are sweet and fun and very cute together, and this novella has the perfect amount of heart and humor. The bonus scene was pretty cute too!
I’ve so far only read this story but absolutely love the MCs. Think Anthony is my fav. Really like this short, so much I will go out and get the first book.
I’ve read quite a few of Jax’s books and they don’t fail. Will definitely recommend as a good read.
This is the second novella of the series and it was fantastic!!! So much witty banter and swoon worthy moments! I laughed so hard I woke up my husband (worth it) 🤣 can’t wait for the next one!
