Evania lives a quiet life surrounded by books, working in a cozy library café where stories feel safer than reality. Everything changes the day billionaire Callahan walks in for coffee. One glance across the counter sparks something unexpected—but before she can speak to him, he’s gone.
Callahan’s life is ruled by pressure and expectations. When his parents give him an ultimatum—marry or lose the company—he needs a solution fast. So he proposes a fake marriage to the only woman he can’t forget.
But as their staged marriage begins to feel real, Callahan starts to wonder if the biggest risk isn’t losing his company… it’s falling for his fake wife.
I admit it. One scene with a sassy FMC and I had to read it.
A woman who loves getting lost in books. A billionaire given an ultimatum. A fake marriage. Two people who truly like the other. A mother-in-law from he!!. What could go wrong? It’s more a case of what can go right.
Evania (BW) and Callahan (WM) are two likable characters and I enjoyed their story very much. This was a sweet, easy read. It was fast paced and truly a work of fiction. This isn’t a story to dive into a deep critique of, it’s a simple escape for a reader.
Evania’s family is interesting and I want to read her sister Elena’s story when it releases later this year. I’m also hoping Theo, Callahan’s best friend, has a story in the future…maybe in a spinoff series. Who knows, maybe he’ll be partnered with Emily.
This is a clean romance and it was a breath of fresh air to read. It’s a great palate cleanser for anyone needing a break from dark romance. There are some formatting/grammar/spelling issues, but they didn’t detract from the story. They just had me stopping and making a note of it.
I can only find this book listed for Ruth Stevens, so I’m curious is this is her first book. If it is, I look forward to seeing how she develops as an author over time.
The book starts out with her reading a book about a marriage of convenience with a billionaire, FMC thinking that’s the type of marriage she wants and two seconds later a billionaire appears right in front of her.
Before their date, they talked for less than 10 seconds. The MMC asks her out on a date and wants to confess about the predicament his parents put him in. It’s a date with someone you have only interacted with for 10 seconds.
I kept trying to push forward but I’m at the ice cream sort of their date and it’s just not for me.
Also the lack of description in this book. MMC look like? FMC we had to somewhat piece together but it was vague.
Only on Paper by Ruth Stevens gets a very loud, very dramatic, very well-deserved 5/5 because why not? 😌
This book had me cackling, kicking my feet, clutching my chest, and acting like I personally signed the marriage certificate.
I don’t even know if this is a review or a record of me losing my mind in real time but let’s begin.
From the moment Evania opened her mouth, I knew I was finished. Because why was she saying everything I would say? 😭
Evania was such a mood from start to finish, Girl really said she wanted a rich husband and then went on to collect one like it was her divine assignment.
Evania aka my spirit animal:
This girl? Unhinged (respectfully).
She said: “Are you planning on being a bitch the whole evening?” (I stood up, i clapped and screamed👏)
“I didn’t hear what he said because I was busy being married to him in my head.” (relatable girl😭)
Asked a billionaire for proof of wealth? (I had to pause and remind myself this is fiction because I would do the same thing😂)
Told his mother she’s the one that will grow old with him and hold his hand? (Love the confidence😫)
She’s funny, bold, self-aware, dramatic, and still soft where it matters. The fact she mentioned social anxiety like girl even social anxiety will be terrified of you 😭. When she doubted herself, she corrected it herself and stood ten toes down. A queen👏, other FMCs please take notes😫
Now Callahan Sterling (immediately I saw the name Callahan I knew what to expect and he did not disappoint)
This man is a simp😫: a rich, dangerous, emotionally constipated simp 😂
Fell in love immediately: “She would be my wife.” sir?
Bought slides so her feet wouldn’t hurt? (where are you people finding these men?)😭
Moved his entire library for her as an apology? (I would have folded immediately 🙈)
Called to buy a company just to humble his wife's ex? 👏
Watched YouTube tutorials for her hair? (yeah no, this man is gone😫)
And don’t even get me started on: “Firefly” “My love” “Your beauty made me weak.”
Funny moments that took me out (they were alot):
“Twelve episodes of emotional torture, they’re about to kiss.” (Evania gets K-drama culture. She gets it🤭)
Her siblings wanting to spy on her date like FBI agents 😭
“Your wife just tried to purchase a Barnes & Noble.” (I actually screamed😂)
Her parents reaction to her being married : “Honestly, I’m just glad she didn’t fall for a stalker and married him. It's her second favorite trope.” 😂😂
Clapping moments 👏:
Evania vs his mother (Every single time)
“You can either get with the program and watch your son be happy or you can get used to the idea of being estranged.” 😌
That Christina humiliation? (I won’t lie, i enjoyed it and wanted more)
The ex scene? “You’d better be nice to her. She’ll be your boss by morning." (A Man😫)
Crazy / iconic moments:
Impromptu wedding?😭
Marriage before proper confession? 😂
Buying companies and supermarket out of anger?😭
Spending millions casually? 👏
Favorite lines:
He really was a billionaire, being pushed by his parents into a marriage of convenience. This was a dream come true for me. As a fan of billionaire marriage-of-convenience romances, I wanted nothing more than to convince him I should be his wife. (I was proud of her)
“To join Callahan Sterling and Evania Blackwell in marriage. This isn’t traditional. It isn’t romantic. And it definitely wasn’t planned.” Evania glanced at him. “Speak for yourself.” (she has been ready for this since 😂😂)
“Seeing as I’m the one wearing the ring, I highly doubt I’m the homewrecker here.” (Mic drop😌)
“Confidence without foundation is arrogance, dear.” “And belittling someone you just met,” I replied evenly, “is incredibly foolish.” (🗣)
“I’ll be out for the day,” she said sweetly. “Spending your money.” My jaw tightened. “And when I get back,” she continued, adjusting her bag on her shoulder, “I’ll decide whether or not I want to listen to you grovel.” (😫👏)
“If I had a choice,” he continued, “I would choose to meet her sooner just for the chance that she might choose me too.”(🥺)
“You just dragged me into a kiss like that and now you’re thinking about a drama series.” (priorities are priorities I mean its Zhang linghe 😌)
“What part of me looks like I have trouble keeping a man?”
“Let’s go do your hair.” (this made me fold 😫)
What I loved the most:
Finally an FMC who gladly spends her man's money 😌
No unnecessary breakup drama
Their relationship actually grew instead of dragging
Communication (even when messy at first)
Soft, quiet romance without needing too many explicit scenes
The balance of humor and emotion
Evania and her family (I could feel the bond😊)
How Evania stayed herself the entire time
How Callahan chose her again and again🤭
The only thing I didn't like was Callahan's parents, his father at a point felt like a decoration 🤦♀️
Final thoughts: This book felt like a K-drama and a C-drama 🤭
It was chaotic, funny, romantic, dramatic, and somehow still soft.
Also, I’m genuinely concerned because this book is feeding my delusions 😫 Where is my own Callahan?😭
This book really said:
Marriage of convenience Billionaire husband Chaotic but lovable families Bold, hilarious FMC Soft, secretly and loudly obsessed MMC
Conclusion: 5/5 No explanation needed. Evania is my spirit animal Callahan is mine (in my head😉). And this author? added to my 2026 favorites immediately.

I really wanted to like this book, after I saw a TikTok with it, but it just really didn’t do it for me… They both fall at first sight and there is no lead or build up to anything. She is literally reading a book and thinking about how she wants a marriage of convenience with a billionaire and boom he appears; one date later and they are married - I really dont see why the book had to be so long, because it all happens within like three weeks. The fmc kinda seem dense and shallow to me, like her personality seemed a little fake and forced ngl - she got better in the end but still It lowkey feels like the book was released before being carefully read through and finished edited… some of the ideas just didn’t feel like they were thought 100% through I wanted to give this two stars, but it grew a little on me after around 70% - but it was a painful read for me
Tiktok recommended it and I decided to give it a try..
The moment I started this book and Evaina said she likes a book or a K-drama, I already knew I was gone 😭
Then she said she wants to fall in love but absolutely hates the process of actually meeting someone and doing the whole “what do you like / what don’t you like” conversation… I said OH??? My type of girl fr because why are we the same 😩
And then just like that her life turned into a full-blown romance trope. Not just any trope o, HER FAVORITE: marriage of convenience. God really said since you like it so much, come and experience it yourself 🤣🤣
Because how does a man you’ve met TWICE ask you to marry him due to family pressure??? Madness. Beautiful madness.
But I actually loved that Evaina and Callahan had gone on a proper date first and had chemistry. Like if life was normal, they would’ve dated, fallen in love, and then gotten married… but no, they said let’s shuffle the order and add pressure 😭
Callahan though??? Sweet man. Soft man. A man that knows when to KEEP QUIET when his wife says leave it, I’ll handle it. Especially when it came to his mother because that woman almost made me enter my screen personally 🙂 And the dad!! Just there watching nonsense happen like it’s a TV show. Sir?? But I’ll give it to them, they eventually got themselves together.
Evaina!! Not predictable AT ALL and once I saw her family, I said ohhhh, this is where she gets it from. That whole family is chaos in the best way 😭
Also, I LOVE that this girl was spending her husband’s money with her full chest. As she should. And Callahan??? Enjoying it, Smiling, and Encouraging it. A king... Plus the way he says my wife🙂↔️ Inject it into my veins please 😩
Side characters were also doing their thing Emily, Theo, Elena, Sabrina, Selena everybody brought their own kind of madness and humour and I loved it.
Honestly, I had such a good time with this. Sat down, read it in one go, no breaks. Just vibes, chaos, romance, and me smiling like a fool the whole time 😌
This is the type of book you don't analyse and just enjoy it because It took me entering the Author's page to realise I was reading an Interracial romance ..
This was enjoyable. And I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but it just kinda felt ok. I didn’t feel any crazy butterflies or had any swoon worthy moments. It was an easy to read romance that has one of my favourite tropes and absolutely no spiciness which I always appreciate.
The only thing was the pacing and just kinda how unrealistic it feels to me. But otherwise I don’t have any really big critics to say. It was a solid book, fun to read, easy to get through, and perfect for what it was.
I went into this book expecting a quick romance, and that’s exactly what I got—in the best way 💙
The chemistry?? 🔥 The dynamic is very grumpy billionaire x bold, bookish girl, and their banter kept me hooked the whole time. It’s super easy to read and honestly feels like one of those books you finish in a single sitting 📖✨
That said, it does lean into familiar tropes, while not being predictable 🤏🏽 and I wished for a bit more depth in certain moments.
Overall, it’s a fun, addictive romance—perfect if you’re reading for vibes, tension, and that emotional payoff 💞
This book was good but had some areas of opportunity to be better. Even though you’re immediately thrust into these two characters and their marriage of convenience without much buildup, the characters are likeable and it was a fast read. My main issue with the book is formatting, typos, and there was an instance or two of repeated text. I did read on the Kindle app though so it’s possible the formatting issues are exclusive to Kindle.
I really liked this. Very well written, loved the closed door romance, loved the relationship between Evania and Emily.
I did really like the way that Evania was written. shes witty, sarcastic, headstrong and relatable.
There were a couple of little plot holes that I would have liked to have seen resolved, but it was a fun story and definitely helped me get back into my reading
2.5 ⭐ the book was so fast paced ! at first I kinda like it because it gives kdrama or modern manhwa vibes , but then it just didn't make sense anymore 😕 they fell in love quickly, didn't question their feelings like normal people, her family accepted their marriage like it was okay , and many other illogique things .
This book came as a recommendation and I’ll admit I had high hopes. However while it wasn’t a bad story, I had my expectations too high. And there were minor inconsistencies in the story. Such as at one point Victoria is referred to as Vanessa. All in all, I didn’t hate the story. However, it’s not one I’d read again.
This story gave everything I needed. Marriage of convenience turned genuine love Good characters, development and a satisfying conclusion I actually appreciate the author for not giving any sexual encounters. Bravo!!
love the qualities of the FMC but everything else felt forced
love the qualities of the FMC but everything else felt forced. So many parts where it felt like reading a wishful thinking that a story to be so invested in.
I have been reading a lot of dark romance for the pass couple months and I came across this book on TikTok and I was just so excited that I picked this book. This is just a cute relationship story and unique and refreshing to read. 10/10
I’ve read a lot of contract marriages but this one was not what I was expecting. The banter among all the characters is funny. The main characters are quirky in a fun way. There was some editing issues but it didn’t take away from the story.
