The history of anything amazes me. I want to know why this or that has its name or how it was found to do what it does.

This book tells me how to use dried herbs; ground vs. Leaf, test the freshness, spoon, don't sprinkle, grinding, using whole spices, toasting ground spices. I love knowing I can substitute many herbs and spices if I don't have one on hand.

As for the recipes I don't think I'd make many of them. There are others that look delicious. While the hubs and I might like to try something new the kids would scoff and whine and I am definitely not making 2 different dinners. I'll wait until they're older to use Fontina and cardamom and cumin additions.

Good book if your knowledge of herbs and spices is limited and the internet isn't helpful. (Well... sometimes the power goes out)

I originally got this one out of the library and it turned out to be so fantastic that I bought it and its equally good companion "Quick From Scratch One Dish Meals". I really can make an excellent gourmet dinner using ingredients I regularly keep in my house in the 30 minutes or so that it usually takes for my husband to put my son to sleep. Then when he comes downstairs we can enjoy a great meal that was a cinch to make and is super healthy. Love, love, love!

Found this while cleaning. Can't wait to make some of these. Some dishes I've had made similar to this. Some I wouldn't try. The one spice/herb I'm surprised they didn't include was bay, it'd be nice to see more recipes using that one.
