The Ghost Professor

Rate this book
The Ghost Professor blends historical fiction, time travel, and satirical commentary on academia. Dr. Gordon H. Kingman statistician, professor, and accidental time traveler embarks on a series of adventures across decades of American history. From 1920s New York speakeasies to 1960s Greenwich Village, from Buddy Holly’s Clovis studio to the tense moments in Dallas before JFK’s assassination, Gordie bears witness to history’s turning points while wrestling with his own identity.

Returning to modern academia in 2025, he confronts culture wars, administrative bloat, and the realities of being a “ghost” within higher education. Witty, nostalgic, and richly detailed, The Ghost Professor is both a time-travel odyssey and a sharp reflection on how history and education shape and distort our lives.

Fans of Michael Crichton, Stephen King’s 11/22/63, and campus satire will find this novel a unique mix of humor, history, and heart.

The Ghost Professor is an absolute gem clever, thought-provoking, and packed with historical detail. Dr. Gordon Kingman is one of the most memorable protagonists I’ve read in a long time: a statistician-turned-accidental-time-traveler whose dry humor and introspective nature make every chapter shine. I loved journeying with him from roaring ’20s speakeasies to the electric creativity of 1960s Greenwich Village, from Buddy Holly’s studio to the haunting hours before JFK’s assassination. The author’s ability to blend satire, nostalgia, and rich historical atmosphere is outstanding.

And when Gordie returns to 2025 academia? Brilliant. The commentary on bureaucracy, culture wars, and university politics is sharp, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt. This book manages to be a time-travel thriller, a campus satire, and an emotional character study all at once without ever missing a beat.

Fans of Crichton, Stephen King’s 11/22/63, and academic humor will absolutely love this. A unique, entertaining, and unforgettable read. Five stars, easily.

The Ghost Professor is smart, funny, and deeply absorbing. Craig Miller sends Dr. Gordon H. Kingman on a thrilling journey through pivotal moments in American history, from 1920s speakeasies to the tense hours before JFK’s assassination, and every stop feels vivid and alive.
What truly stands out is the sharp, witty take on modern academia. The satire is spot on, but there is real heart beneath it as Gordie wrestles with identity, relevance, and what it means to be a “ghost” in higher education.
Nostalgic, clever, and thought provoking, this book blends time travel, history, and humor beautifully. Fans of Michael Crichton and 11/22/63 will love it. A must read that stays with you long after the last page.

This book is an absolute gem. The Ghost Professor takes familiar elements, time travel, historical drama, academic satire, and blends them into something fresh and wildly entertaining. Gordie is a fantastic protagonist: humble, observant, and wonderfully human as he stumbles into moments that shaped the 20th century.

From Prohibition nightlife to the folk music explosion, the historical world building is rich and immersive. And once Gordie lands back in 2025? The satire is pitch perfect. The depiction of campus politics, administrative bloat, and “cancel culture” is funny because it’s true, but also handled with nuance.

The Ghost Professor is one of those rare novels that manages to entertain, educate, and provoke thought all at once. Gordie Kingman’s journey through America’s cultural flashpoints is masterfully written, full of sharp detail and subtle humor that bring each era to life. I loved how the book balances big historical moments with Gordie’s personal struggles, making the story both sweeping and intimate.

The Ghost Professor fuses time travel, American history, and sharp academic satire into a clever, engaging ride. From speakeasies to JFK’s Dallas, Gordie’s journey is rich with nostalgia and humor, while its take on modern academia is uncomfortably sharp and hilarious.
