From earliest childhood, Shawna Reppert has had a passion for stories-- for reading them and for writing them. She obtained a BA in English with a Writing Option from Penn State University and has participated in numerous writing workshops and seminars given by the likes of Charles de Lint, David Farland and Elizabeth Lyon. Two of her stories have won honorable mentions from Writers of the Future. Previous short stories sold to 10 Flash Quarterly and to Everyday Fiction can be read for free at their websites. Several 'indie' short stories are available for sale at Amazon, and her story 'The Beast Within' will appear in the second Gears and Levers anthology, edited by Phyllis Irene Radford. Her first novel is due out as a Carina Press e-book in the summer of 2013.

In college, Shawna volunteered at a raptor rehabilitation center, which became valuable background for her short story The Sword and the Kestrel. Shawna has always had an affinity for wolves, and used to keep a wolf-dog hybrid as a pet. Her current four-footed children are a Lipizzan stallion and an orange-and-black cat named Samhain. She enjoys Irish social dancing and is an ardent supporter of live Irish music. Shawna also likes to play with the Society for Creative Anachronism and can sometimes be found in medieval garb on a caparisoned horse, throwing javelins into innocent hay bales that never did anything to her.

A Pennsylvania native, she currently lives in the beautiful wine county of Oregon.

Just when the Three Communities (Art, Craft, and Mundane) think they are safe, the Ravensblood is stolen. After Raven had used the artifact to vanquish the dark mage William (Book 1), he had turned it over to the Guardians for safekeeping. But the unthinkable has happened and the Ravensblood is gone. Though Raven had been pardoned for his past involvement with William and has been helping the Guardians to combat magical crime, he emerges as the prime suspect in the theft and must flee for his life. His only friends are a small group of Guardians who call themselves the Raven's Wing. They believe he is innocent and are willing to risk all to help him recover the lost stone. Since he is the only one of them with a living connection to the Ravensblood, he is the one who must find it before its powers can be turned to serve another's evil purposes.

Yes, we are back in alternative Portland, where magic is as real (and ordinary) as ordering a beverage from Starbucks. It's that "normalcy" that draws us in, makes us believe this world. Another of the strengths of the author's writing is her character development. Raven and his Guardian lover Cass are richly drawn and psychologically complex, torn by fear and deceit and betrayal. We care for them and what they do. Ms. Reppert has treated us to another delight in her urban fantasy series. Enjoy!

It is revealed a little slowly that this book is set about 2 years after the ending of Book 1. There is reference to other cases Raven has "consulted" on and how he has helped the GuardianII group Cassie is now a part of. When the Ravensblood is stolen from the Guardian protection, Raven is immediately assumed to be the thief. Dark magic executions soon follow, and Raven has to go underground to stay out of jail. Cassie and team work to find the stone and only are able to do so through a surprising ally. This one starts out ok but really drags a bit in the middle. I guess to show a more emotional side of Raven? Who can really come across extremely emotionless. There are a few twists and serious lags in communication. The bad guy is absolutely no surprise and the final fight, though a bit traumatic, is almost too easy. A small hook is written into the end to generate interest in book 3.

“Raven’s Wing” is not quite as complex as the novel I raved about a few weeks ago, the title book of the series, “Ravensblood.” It is still definitely worth picking up.
In this story, Cassandra has moved up to working with a more independent group of agents, and Raven volunteers with them on the odd interesting job. However, when he gained his pardon, it was not considered safe for him to keep the Ravensblood, the stone of power that he alone could wield. Thus Cassandra’s next job is to find the talisman, which has been stolen from under the noses of the best security the Three Communities could muster.
And even that doesn’t last. The prejudices of the community against Raven conspire to get him blamed for the theft and the subsequent murders of Guardians sent to work on solving the crime. Then all Cassandra’s workmates are fired from their jobs for helping her.
In order to get himself cleared of the charges, Raven is forced to do something he hates; depend on others for help. His new allies include Cassandra’s friend Chuckie, who takes the role of hi-tech computer nerd to a magical level. He is a personality all his own, as is Bran, a mysterious Australian magic man who knows much more about Raven than he should.
As one learns to expect from Ms. Reppert, this book abounds with entertaining characters, tight suspense, and enough steam to satisfy diehard Romance readers. However, the personality sparks that showered between Raven and Cassandra have faded to a more mature, enduring (and hence less entertaining) love. So “Raven’s Wing” is not the tour de force that the first book in the series was, but it is still a highly enjoyable read.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Review Courtesy of: Books That Hook

This book, while still qualifying as a novel at 228 pages, is much shorter than book one. However, it is a good follow-up on what happened with Cass’s new job and starts a new threat for Cass and Raven to overcome. From what I understood, two years passed between book one and book two. During that time, Cass and Raven became lovers. I wish this hadn’t been skipped over, but it makes sense for this series since it is the equivalent of PG-rated.

I think readers can jump in here if they haven’t read the first book, because the author provided enough background information.

I liked how the problem that Cass and Raven has to deal with is readily apparent. This book has less action than the first, but more mystery. The identity of the villain is kept a secret for most of the book.

As a whole, I didn’t like this book as much as the first one. The mystery of the villain’s identity wasn’t really much of a mystery. It was too easy to tell who it was.

Still, I think it was a good contribution to the series. I would read more books from Shawna Reppert. I recommend this series to readers who like:

~urban fantasy without the snarky heroine

~romance sub-plot without sex

~magic-users who don’t have to do lengthy rituals or incantations

*This Book Was Given To Me By The Author In Exchange For An Honest Review*

Raven's wing is the sequel to Ravensblood and the second book by this author I have read. As with the first, although listed as Urban Fantasy this book really is a mesh of many genres and I would imagine it appealing to a broad spectrum of readers.

Picking up 2 years after the end of book 1 was a little surprising for me but overall it worked for the story. The characters remain strong although, as to be expected, their characters have grown a lot since the first book and for me this meant that some of the tension between the 2 leads was a little lacking, however, the story itself was a little stronger and so it evened out.

Definitely an author to watch out for and if you haven't read book 1 I would recommend picking up a copy. This sequel is not one that stands alone.

A well earned 4 out of 5 starts from me!

Exciting second book in the series – hard to put down!

In an alternate universe that has Portland, Oregon as its capitol live people divided into Crafts, Arts and Mundane. Guardians are there to keep everyone safe after the last Mage Wars.

The second book of this series begins about two years after Ravensblood ends. Cass is working for Guardians International and Raven, her significant other, helps out on cases when he is asked to. Both Cass and Raven are involved with the task force created to look for the Ravensblood when it is stolen. The power of the Ravensblood must be retrieved from the thief who no doubt wants to use it for evil.

There are interesting new characters that make an appearance in this second book as well as twists, turns and surprises aplenty.

Will good be able to overcome evil and if so how many, if any, will walk away unscathed?

I am definitely looking forward to reading book three when it comes out!

Stayed up late last night to finish this. Sequel to the excellent Ravensblood. I was a little surprised that two years have passed since the end of book one. Cass & Raven have had time to settle into a relationship and Cass into her new job at Guardian International--which makes things more painful when the Ravensblood is stolen and Raven quickly becomes the chief suspect. Raven's character is a large part of why I'm enjoying this series so much: difficult childhood, past life as a dark mage, aristocratic upbringing. Raised to be rational, he is uncomfortable expressing his feelings--yet nonetheless cares deeply for Cass.
Fave scene: the pink rabbit of course.
quibble: The middle sagged a bit, with the investigation hitting a lot of dead ends.

Raven's Wing is book two in the Ravensblood Trilogy by Shawna Reppert. I loved this one even more than the first one!
It's been two years since the end of book one and Cass and Raven are going strong. Mostly. But when the Ravensblood is stolen, everyone suspects Raven without proof. He's on the run. Cass is trying to clear his name. Their relationship has hit a few bumps.

Basically, the drama increases and the suspense with it. Lives are on the line, Raven's and Cass's specifically. Raven has to learn that he's more than the bad guy with a conscious. He really grows into himself and becomes even more of an awesome hero to match his stubborn heroine.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. A world where magic not only exist but has different fractions and one in particular to be leery of. This book continues from book one Ravensblood. I really enjoyed how the characters have evolved in book 2 showing growth and maturity and a love that is still growing. Lots of action and intrigue and emotional blows definitely worth adding to the library.

This was a wonderful sequel, though it is not a stand alone sequel. I found that the characters grew in the two year gap, as did the writer. This is one of my favorite series, can't wait for #3!!
