Zaria has always watched the Grind Gang movement from the sidelines, living vicariously through her big sister, and Detroit’s hottest female rapper, Zenta Blanco. Fame was never the plan, but when one of the crew sets his sights on her, Zaria is pulled straight into a world she’s only ever observed. As a gorgeous plus-size woman, she’s suddenly catching attention from some of the city’s most sought-after artists, and the timing couldn’t be more complicated. What starts as excitement quickly turns dangerous. The Grind Gang lifestyle comes with more than fame, rumors, and haters. It comes with real enemies who want far more than to see them fall off. Still, Zaria refuses to be intimidated. If Zenta can survive this world, then so can she… even if it means risking everything she thought she knew about herself and love. Draco Jam is all about living fast and partying harder. At twenty-five, money and women have always come first, until Zaria becomes single and shifts everything. When Jam decides he wants her, the crew is totally against his pursuing her, and the competition is already circling. To claim Zaria, Jam knows he has to come correct and move fast. With his career and loyalty on the line, Jam is ready to go to war for the woman he believes is his soulmate. The only question is… does Zaria feel the same?

This book is a captivating urban fiction that immerses you in the music world. It offers a unique view of the industry from both the Record Label and Artist viewpoints. It’s filled with drama, daily life struggles and some forbidden romance.
This story stayed with me in real life. I caught myself walking around work all day saying “grind gang, grind gang,” and that alone says a lot. The grind in this book doesn’t feel glamorized. It feels heavy. Every move matters. Every decision costs something.
(Draco) Jam is my guy. 🥰 From the beginning, his hunger, pressure, and drive felt real. You could feel the weight of survival behind everything he did. I found myself rooting for him hard, even when his choices weren’t easy or clean. His character felt layered and human, not perfect, but intentional.
Jam and Zaria together made complete sense. Their connection felt balanced and earned. She grounds him, and he sharpens her. That relationship was one of my favorite parts of the book because it didn’t feel forced or rushed. It felt natural, like two people who actually fit.
Rain, on the other hand, tested my patience. Why is she free again? Her choices frustrated me throughout the story, and I struggled with her lack of accountability. Every time she showed up, I was stressed. That said, not liking her didn’t take away from the book. If anything, it added realism. Not every character is meant to be liked, and that honesty worked.
I also needed more Rome and Paris. Every time they appeared, the story felt richer. There’s clearly more depth there, and I hope we get more of them moving forward.
What really stood out to me is how this book explores ambition, loyalty, and consequence. Nobody gets out untouched. The grind has a cost, and the story doesn’t shy away from that truth.
And that ending… Why am I waiting on part two again? The cliffhanger was strong, almost disrespectfully so. I need answers, consequences, and resolution, immediately.
Overall, this book had me reacting out loud, picking sides, getting frustrated, and still wanting more. When a story can pull that many real reactions from me, it did its job. I’m definitely continuing the series.
Coming in blind because I didn’t read Virgin Kisses…oops! So, I don’t know the backgrounds or backstories of Zaria, Jam or anyone. But what I do know is that I saw Jam coming for Zaria and felt it was genuine. Everyone thought he just wanted sex but obviously, he could get that anywhere. He wanted, wanted her. I knew Rell would get handled once she told of him putting his hands on her. Rightfully so. Jam did have that unhinged energy but a totally different energy when it came to Zaria. Manson was the cause of the beef between the record labels being ignited because his ego got hurt when Jam took Zaria’s phone and told him he wouldn’t be going out with Zaria that day or any other day. At the movie premiere, Manson approached Jam and started all the mayhem and unaliving. Best part, but unfortunately Jam’s breakdown got him the help he needed and Zaria and his family are right by his side 100%. Now for Grind Gang 2: Black Tim’s story. I don’t know what to say about Rain and Rome!?
KB!!!!!! Bravo for real. This was really good. SO much to unpack. This was more just a record label drama. I loved the themes of struggling with transitioning from street life to legit and the hard choices that Rome had to make. Even with his love triangle situation. Doing whats right for his dream label vs hey, I wanna family lol. I aint know WHO side to be on. I loved Paris and I understood Rain. And I understood his dilemma. My boy was in a pickle lol. JAM'S SOBRIETY JOURNEY. Jamie Blackmon. So sweet and Im happy he had the support he needed to help him thru. The mental health topic was important, and it was good to see the accountability and vulnerability in the end.
This was just so good. FUNNY. I swear Jam is a comedian lol. I loved all the chemistry with all the characters, they felt real af. Also I wanna point out that it seemed like I couldnt hate or love anybody over the other because they all had they reasons. Im ready to see how things with everybody play out next.
Jam and Zaria finally got it together!!! I kept forgetting Zaria was 25 because she was moving like she needed permission to breathe but honestly, I get it. Now Rain… how much longer do we have to deal with her? I’m beyond over it. The way she keeps acting about Rome is exhausting. And speaking of Rome, I definitely side-eyed him more than once because sir… what are you doing?! Overall, this was a solid read, but I am more than ready for Black Terry’s story.
At first, there were so many characters being named that I felt lost, but as the story continued everything made sense. Really loved the growth in Jam, seeing him battle his demons was a lot, but I’m glad that he got the help that he needed. I honestly want to know what happens to Paris and Rome. Good read overall.
KB always comes through with a read! Grind gang is back and the attempt is following them. Mental health in the black community is not talked about enough I loved Jam and Zariah confronting Jams mental health. I cant wait for more
I fell in love with Jam and his love for Zaria, she never left his side even though he did take her through alot, but she knew he needed help and prayed for her man, and he made it through!!! Good read and storyline.
