She'll love you to death. An arbiter of justice. An angel of death. He’s spent his life chasing the ghosts of the past, and now, the woman who might be one of them. She’s spent hers perfecting the art of killing, carving meaning out of blood and silence. He’s empty, haunted, and searching for purpose. She’s vibrant, ruthless, and unwavering in hers. When their worlds collide, obsession takes root. They see themselves reflected in each other—two halves of the same broken truth. But he’s working for the other side. And justice, in his world, demands sacrifice. For monsters like them, happy endings don’t exist. Only ashes, and the question of whose fire will consume them first.

What if I tell you he orders an assassination attempt on himself, just so she will be forced to talk to him again?
I love all of Valeriia’s MMC’s, but Dante took the fucking cake, oh my god.
Two assassins. Two morally black MC’s. Two deadly obsessions. One fantastic fucking story.
Dante & Estella both have tragic backstories that give them so much depth. They both learned to love the only way they know how. Their banter too, ugh, so good.
Dante is so down bad for Estella, and vice versa…. But the things this man did for her?! I’m ignoring the murderous red flags.
Not only is the story so good, but Valeriia has such an eloquent way of writing. It’s poetic & intricate, without being too complicated. Essentially, her writing is perfect, in my not so humble opinion.
Thank You to the author Valeriia Miller for allowing me to read this as an ARC in return for an honest review! 💞
Guys this book is definitely dark and addicting. The plot is insanely strong and there is so much depth to these characters! I wish it was shortened just a little bit but it was fun! This might even be a reread when I’m in a slump because I’m just obsessed with the plot and how insane the MCs are not just for each-other but their behaviors! I love an unhinged book!! Definitely read triggers before continuing!
If you’re here for dark, obsessive romance with edge-of-your-seat tension, Collateral Obsession is exactly what you didn’t know you needed. From the very first page, Valeriia Miller plunges you into a world of murder, deceit, and forbidden desire, and she doesn’t let go. The story follows Estella, a lethal assassin for The Order. She doesn’t do company, she doesn’t do feelings — she simply kills the targets given to her with cold precision. Enter Dante, whose life has been shattered by The Order’s cruelty: his parents murdered, his heart burning for revenge. To take the organization down, he goes undercover as an assassin — and that means training under Estella, the Order’s deadliest operative. The tension between them is immediate and electric. Estella’s stubborn, fierce, black-cat energy clashes beautifully with Dante’s charm, wit, and relentless flirting. You can see her slowly cracking under his persistence, even as she struggles with her own walls. Push-and-pull tension doesn’t even begin to cover it — every interaction is laced with anticipation, danger, and unspoken desire. Miller does a brilliant job weaving in trauma and hurt/comfort elements. Dante’s controlling tendencies in intimacy are layered with heartbreaking backstory: abuse from both parents and the scars it leaves behind. Yet seeing Estella allow him control, surrendering in her own way, creates scenes that are both hot and emotionally raw. Their intimacy is not just physical — it’s psychologically charged and full of tension, trust, and danger. The story also takes you through dark obsession and betrayal. Dante stalks and manipulates elements of Estella’s past, even murdering to gain leverage, and the fallout is shocking. When Estella discovers the truth, her rage is explosive — she doesn’t just yell; she shoots and stabs Dante, making her anger feel real and earned. Miller doesn’t shy away from the consequences of obsession or the messy, morally grey lines these characters cross. The later chapters are heart-wrenching and cathartic. Dante’s cage scenes — a literal and figurative reliving of childhood trauma — hit hard, showing his vulnerability beneath the charming, lethal exterior. Their eventual reconciliation is tender but still carries the obsessive, possessive energy that defines them. Moments like Dante breaking into Estella’s home to leave her flowers and tuck her into bed are simultaneously sweet and unnerving, perfectly capturing the dark romance tone. Final Thoughts: Collateral Obsession is intense, dark, and addictive. Miller balances obsession, danger, sexual tension, and emotional depth in a way that keeps you glued to the pages. Estella and Dante are flawed, dangerous, and yet heartbreakingly human. Their romance is not soft, and it shouldn’t be — it’s messy, passionate, and utterly compelling. If you love assassin/fighter heroines, morally grey antiheroes, stalker-ish tension, and intense hurt/comfort romance, this is a must-read. Be prepared to feel all the rage, heat, and heartbreak.

tropes: • touch her and die • assassins • mafia / crime world • psychopath fmc • childhood trauma
*Dante I love u *Estella ur such a baddie
i went into collateral obsession expecting something extremely dark, and while it didn’t go quite as far as my brain anticipated, i still had a really good time with this one (not sure what that says about me that I was excited for darker LOL). I did struggle a bit at first- I found it leaned very over-descriptive at times and i was itching for things to pick up. once it did, though, i was fully invested.
the characters and their dynamic completely carried this for me!! the push and pull, the obsession, the tension, i loved it. the world-building and crime world dynamics were also a standout, especially how the plot existed outside of the romance. the revenge storyline was strong, i do wish we’d gotten a little more of it- but the characters still carried on their own and that didn’t take away from the reading experience for me at all!
& guys the spice was SPICEY !!! ❤️🔥🌶️ 10/10!!!
that said, i ate this up. i loved the dynamic, loved seeing so many of my favorite tropes on the page, and overall this was a really engaging, addictive read. i’m so glad i got to read this as an arc and would absolutely recommend it to anyone who loves mafia vibes, morally black “i’ll kill for you” energy, and a dark romance with real plot behind it (if that sounds like you add this to ur tbr now) 🔪
Plot: The story follows Estella, psycho unfeeling baddie who is an assassin for The Order. She doesn’t do well with company or feelings. Then we have Dante, whose life has been wrecked by The Order's cruelty: his parents were killed, and he’s burning for revenge. To bring the organisation down, he decides to go undercover as an assassin, which means he has to train with Estella, the deadliest operative in the game.
Characters: Estella is such a baddie, I loved being in her mind and seeing how unhinged and chaotic she is and Dante is the perfect MMC to handle that. The slow burn 👏🏼 The tension 👏🏼 The push/pull from these two 👏🏼
This book was such an easy read, maybe a bit of a slow start as there was quite a lot of descriptive world building but as soon as the plot movement started I was hooked!
I got this as a ARC book however views are my own. so this book is heavy and descriptive so be aware of that going in. each character has so much strength and depth which surprised me in the best way, the mental health in this is truly one of the best ways I have ever read in a book so chefs kiss to valeriia. I did feel like parts of the book dragged and them parts I did find myself bored and really having to push through for it. I did think there was parts where more could have been explained instead of going 6 months later. the MFC is a BADASS pulled herself from the depths of hell and carried on and that takes so much mental strength, the MMC comes to shocking realisations about his past and the beliefs and what he thought was true but was a trick of his mind.
Collateral Obsession was deliciously wicked and demented.
Estella and Dante are the definition of unhinged and morally black, but they somehow have you rooting for them throughout the story (maybe I just need therapy?). Anyway, these characters are burned into my brain and I need more of them desperately. Their tension and angst had me giggling and kicking my feet the entire story.
This novel was obsession incarnate, and the prose throughout painted a beautiful storyline. Please, I need more people to read this book so I can blab about Estella and Dante😫
Check the Trigger warnings before you read, this book is not for the fainthearted !!!
I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this dark, addictive thriller-romance.
Although the opening is a slow burn, the story soon ramps up, pulling you in until you can’t put it down. If you enjoy dark, twisted, morally ambiguous, and fiercely possessive characters, this book is a must-read. Just when you think you know what’s coming, Valeriia expertly subverts expectations, keeping you on edge and eager for more. I especially appreciated how she isn’t afraid to infuse her MMC with genuine vulnerability alongside his formidable strength.
Well, I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did. Valeriia introduces us to Estrella, a fiercely determined protagonist who walks a path that most would never dare consider. She grapples with her inner struggles, transforming them into the driving force that makes her one of the most formidable assassins in ‘The Order.’
Dante, the MMC, is haunted by shadows he can’t outrun, always searching for answers in places best left undisturbed. Now, he finds himself drawn to a woman whose presence feels dangerously familiar, stirring old wounds. Though he keeps his distance, her persistence slowly unravels his defenses, and their connection becomes a mirror for all they’ve lost and all they might become. But Dante’s loyalties lie elsewhere, and the price for following his heart could mean betraying everything he’s ever known. In a world shaped by vengeance and sacrifice, people like them are rarely granted happy endings.
It’s not your traditional love story with a structured happily ever after—it’s dark, twisted, and brimming with thorns. Instead of comfort and predictability, Valeriia delivers a raw exploration of obsession, betrayal, and the desperate lengths people will go to for love, even when it destroys them. Every page is steeped in moral ambiguity and emotional pain, making the rare moments of tenderness feel hard-won and all the more poignant. This is a story where hope and heartbreak walk hand in hand, and the characters’ scars are as much a part of their love as their passion.
Just when you think you’ve hit rock bottom in this story, the bottom falls out. Repeatedly.

Full Review, no spoilers:
Collateral Obsession is unlike any love story I’ve ever read, and is a 5 star read for my fellow lovers of pitch black dark romance with a heavy emphasis on trauma, obsession and psychological romance.
I did not expect to descend into this book the way that I did. Dark, addicting, and emotionally devastating from the get, this story had me in a chokehold the entire way through. The psychological depth of this book is staggering- even the spice carries a deeply psychological weight.
This was my first experience with Valariia Miller’s writing and I found her writing style to be rich with the most delicious descriptors. She really knows how to paint a fullest picture for her audience. Because of that talent, one of the greatest strengths of this book is how deeply we come to know the characters- not just through their actions, but through the way they perceive and interact with the world. Even though we spend the majority of the story inside the complex, fractured minds of the MC’s, the external plot remains solid and compelling- grounding the psychological chaos in something tangible.
Our FMC Estella is one of the most compellingly dark females I’ve ever read. As her devastatingly tragic past is slowly uncovered, my heart broke for her again and again. I thought that was the rock bottom of this story… And then we uncover Dante (MMC).
This book is dark from beginning to end, emotionally intense, and deeply unsettling in the best way. If you love romances that explore obsession, trauma, and the rawest corners of the human psyche, this is absolutely one for the TBR.
Let’s be honest: most of us have a soft spot for a good dark romance—especially one with an edgy, slightly criminal twist. So if you’re in the mood for something hot (and I mean HOT), Collateral Obsession delivers exactly what it promises.
I enjoyed this read, though I’ll be candid, it took me about 60% of the book before I truly couldn’t put it down. At first, it followed a familiar dark romance rhythm: the stoic, deeply traumatized killer starts catching feelings, and we’re pulled into a cycle of violence, spice, and an inevitable emotional breaking point. I thought I knew where this story was headed… and in some ways, I did. But that final 40%? Absolutely unhinged in the best way. I was gripping the edge of my seat and biting the inside of my cheek the entire time.
One of my favourite aspects was the relationship between Dante and Estella, hard moments and all. I especially loved seeing them exist as fully realized individuals outside of their romance. I always appreciate when characters are allowed to develop beyond their main plot, and that depth really elevated the story for me. The plot itself also kept surprising me; just when I thought I had things figured out, the story veered sharply in the opposite direction and took me along for the ride.
Overall, this was a fun, engaging read. I’d rate it a solid 3/5, not because it isn’t good, but because it took a while to reach the point where it really hooked me. That said, my slower start with it is more a reflection of where I’m at with dark romance these days than a knock on the book itself.
First, thank you, Valeriia Miller, for the opportunity to receive an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I tried to think of the best way to describe this book, and honestly, there aren’t enough words in the entire English language to express how beautiful it is.🧎🏼♀️ What I appreciate most is the way this author always makes mental health a core part of her books. Every character has their struggles, vulnerabilities, and a reason to feel the way they do.
The depth she goes into when describing these characters is next level. I loved how revenge was the core theme for Dante, and how, in the end, she showed us their emotional struggles instead of a “big plan” — because revenge wasn’t the core theme anymore.
The descriptions of each place are on another level, too. I feel like I traveled around the world with them — that’s how good it was.🏘️🌆🌄🌉🌌
The perfect slow burn had me clenching in my seat. I was like, OKAY, CAN THESE TWO KISS ALREADY?? You don’t expect broken characters like them to trust each other right away, and that’s what makes it so beautiful💔
I don’t think I’ll be able to stop thinking about this book. It’s perfectly dark - not over the top, but exactly the right amount - showing the emotional horrors they had to survive.
And the spice? 🥵🥵🥵🥵 I was blushing the whole time. When the tension snaps, it SNAPS HARD. I had to get up and drink some water before I continued.
∞/5
P.S. I need book 2 after this, and Shattered Hearts to come out already, thank you.
This book, wow! Please check the trigger warning. These characters go through it, especially with their mental health. These two are morally black characters, so with that being said, I loved this book. I loved how these two embrace each other’s darkness and that they help each other with the darkness in their own dark and twisted way. These two are very observant of each other because they both see each other in themselves. They understand what they went through. Even though this book starts off with Dante trying to take down Estella and the order, you see throughout the book how he slowly realizes that his past wasn’t everything he thought it was. That his parents weren’t what his memories were true. My heart broke once you find out both of these characters’ backstories and you finally understand why they are the way they are. Estella’s backstory is just as heartbreaking, and as Dante slowly finds that out, he never tries to change her and just accepts her the way she is. It was such a beautiful book, and if you want a slow burn with twists and turns, this book is for you. I never expected everything that happened; every time I had an idea of what I thought was going to happen, the author threw a major curveball, and I was heartbroken and confused again!! Go check out this book on Kindle Unlimited today!!
🩷🔪Thank you so much for the ARC! This review is my opinion🔪
Once I read the title of this book I knew I was hooked. I was lured in by the dynamic between Dante and Estella. The way they find comfort and safety within each other. How they embrace each other’s darkness and thrive. How observant he was of her and eager to learn every single detail about her and of course vice versa. How intrigued she was of him. Their dynamic really resonated with me in the way of that best friend of yours that knows your ins, outs, ups and downs. Or that special someone that takes you as you are. The author really brought out the meaning of unconditional love through the FMC and MMC, although obsessive but nonetheless unconditional. Also, I was really excited and loved the representation throughout the book of Spanish speaking moments. I really felt seen and I have to thank Valeriia Miller for incorporating it to begin with. Overall, “Collateral Obsession” brings out that feeling that I believe we all can resonate of our own darkness and chaos being truly seen and not judged for.
If you’re looking for your next psychological thriller, then make sure you preorder and get this beautiful book.
Rating: 4.5 ⭐️(sadly Goodreads doesn’t let me put 4.5 😩) 4 🌶️ Release Date: January 16
*Spoiler free ARC review. Thank you so much Valeriia Miller for giving me the opportunity to ARC read again*
Dark. Twisted. Intoxicating.
I was so excited to read this ARC and I was not disappointed.
Estella and Dante are mirrors of darkness, trauma, and heart ache that comes together to form something whole, if dangerous.
From the beginning I was obsessed with Estella's character. Unapologetically psychotic, loud, and entirely herself. She is not kind or gentle or meek, she is abrasive, ruthless and the definition of feminine rage. She took no prisoners and I was thrilled that she carried that through the entire book.
Dante is arrogant, twisted, and heartbreakingly needy. He begins as an emotionless wall, so controlled and distant and then brick by brick Estella tears him back to nothing. I loved their dynamic and that he would crawl over broken glass for a flicker of affection from her.
I would have liked to see their plan in action at the end (IYKYK) but the dynamics between them and the ending were perfect.
If you like your love dark and your character morally grey (at lightest) this is for you.
This is a new author to me and I will have to check out more of her work! Huge thank you for trusting me to read and review this e-ARC.
I love reading about complicated situations and characters with relationships that have a lot more going on than just the romance itself.
✨ No spoilers ✨
This slow burn never left me bored and the twisty tale kept me flying through the pages. I loved this writing and how she put things had me underlining to come back and admire them later.
Our female main character is a cool chick that isn't easy to win over. Dante has a lot going on for himself too. Did I mention both are villains? Traumatic pasts, can they find comfort together?
The playlist included was spot on and the vibes were perfect

Collateral Obsession By Valeriia Miller January 16 2026 check this one out if this is your vibe!
I want to begin by thanking Valeriia Miller for this ARC! Collateral Obsession is a Dark Romance that follows our two main characters, Dante and Estella. Both have tragic backstories that have gotten them where they are. Estella gives major Harley Quinn vibes, with her love being all-consuming and wanting to kill those who come close to what she considers hers. Dante is haunted by his past until he meets her. When Dante and Estella collide, they both become obsessed with one another. The writing is beautiful, pulling you in right from the start. I couldn't put this book down once I started, becoming as obsessed with the characters as they became with one another. The spicy scenes in this book were very steamy. I had to take a break once or twice because they are just that good. As this is a Dark Romance, I strongly encourage everyone to read the trigger warnings before going into this book. I wish we had gotten a little more of Dante coming to terms with what happened in his past, but the ending still provides a form of clarity.
Thank you Valeriia Miller for an ARC copy for an honest review 🖤 first time reader of your work!

Overall I think I had a different idea of where this book would go, but I'm not disappointed. Dante and Estella are so different yet exactly alike in so many different ways. I loved that she had a “give no shit” attitude, and we were able to dig deeper into the plot of both their backgrounds. The layers to not only their pasts but both their minds was also an interesting unfurl. Morally gray yet a line they drew for themselves. There was some twists that I enjoyed and the plot was engaging. I do wish there was more clarity in some of the storyline, but overall a well done book! I'd have I'd give it a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
i received an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
firstly thank you valeriia, i absolutely adored this!
this was a dark romance between an assassin x hunter. if you’re looking for a book with morally black characters, twists and turns and a damn good slowburn, i highly recommend.
estella, the fmc is an absolute badass and i loved her. i loved reading in her pov, being inside her head.
dante, the man that you are… such a good fucking character, there’s so much i wanna say about him but i refuse to give anything away. i went into this book mostly blind and honestly, it’s the best way to read it.
the author’s writing was absolutely stunning, poetic. while sometimes i felt descriptions may have been a little too winded that can’t take away by just how incredible the writing was.
"Estella, you and I are a single creature split in two - fallen things made for the dark, thriving where others burn. Hell is home to us, and I'll endure every agony it holds just to remain with you."
Dante and Estella have the kind of tragic backstories that will break your heart, and that made them into the people they are. You won't find any heroes here, any morally gray villains; they are both villains and neither apologize for it. Dante goes into things wanting to get revenge for his parents, only to find his perfect match. Estella went into their situationship expecting Dante to die, only to finally learn how to feel. There are so many twists and turns throughout this book, their story takes a dark and twisted path to reach their version of an HEA. As a first time reader of Valeriia's work, this book was a great introduction.
Received this as an ARC, So thankful for the opportunity to read. 🫶🏻
This book is dark, intense, and I was obsessed. Collateral Obsession isn’t a cute romance, it’s a fall-into-the-abyss-with-me kind of story. Both Dante & Estella are broken, morally gray, and a little terrifying butttt of course I ate it up!
The spicy is spicing, the plot is plotting. 🌶️🤤 I would of love more details on there revenge but other than that this was an great read for me! If you love dark romance with psychological depth, dangerous chemistry, and characters who make you question your own morals… yeah. This one will consume you.
I really enjoyed this book I loved the plot and Estella's and Dante's back story. They were both tragic in their own ways. I found the banter quite light hearted and funny. I do feel like they both rubbed off on eachother in the traits they lacked in. And when Estella finds out the truth about Dante and what happened between them!! ( I don't want to give too much away) but my God, how she must of felt !! But even after what happened he still goes after her ! This book was wild ride and I was here for it !! I definitely need more and I can't wait for the next book !! 🖤🖤🖤

Thank you the the author Valeriia Miler for the ARC copy. This book is DARK, intense, and addictive. If you love obsession, danger, and morally gray characters… this one is for YOU. The FMC is fierce and unapologetic her love isn’t soft, it’s lethal She'll protect what’s hers at any cost. The MMC is Dark, dominant, and completely unhinged in the best way. Their chemistry is explosive, toxic, and impossible to look away from. Every page had tension, secrets, and that ride-or-die energy This isn’t a fluffy romance this is love that burns, destroys, and consumes everything in its path.
This was my first read of this author for me, and I was NOT disappointed!!!
From the very beginning the plot was strong and stayed that way through out the book. The twists and turns - and super hot tension -kept me wanting to read more. I also am a huge sucker for book playlists and this hit the vibe spot on!
Dante was perfection - and I loved seeing the character development for both him and Estella throughout the book because of one another. The spice was hott and the slow-burn to get there DELIVERED.
Buckle up for a wild ride! Dante and Estella toss you in a rollercoaster of tension and chaos. This book was intense. The push and pull between them had my head spinning. I was so in board for this book. It was wickedly dark and the spice was excellent. The twists and turns and action had me turning pages like it was my lifeline. I couldn’t get enough of these two. They were pure twisted chaos and so delicious.
what in the ever loving obsession did I just read 🫶🏼❣️.
this was a first read of Valeriia Miller and O.M.G did this deliver.. that ending the twists turns an that smut Holy Moly 🥵. the was collateral damage in the best way the FMC & MMC became something that was an absolutely Mindfuck. I have questions and need some more answers I can't wait for book 2 I NEED MORE!!
Wow, what a wild ride. Collateral Obsession was a journey from start to finish. Two morally grey main characters, trauma bonded together. Their backstory’s are heartbreaking but the growth they made throughout the book was beautiful. Lots of spice and kinks which was enjoyable. Valeriia’s writing is beautiful. I definitely recommend this book, just check trigger warnings before diving in!
Collateral Obsession is a slow to start but very engaging read. Valeriia Miller does an excellent job of setting the scene for each chapter and brings to life characters that really feel like they are more than words on a page. The more serious moments are well balanced with the more fun and dare I say sassy moments. I can’t wait to hear what other thing of this book.
