I went into A Hearse with No Name without reading the first book in the series, and I do feel like I missed a little bit of background—but it didn’t take away from being able to follow the story.
The premise pulled me in right away. A random hearse showing up outside a vinyl record store with a body inside? Such a fun, cozy mystery setup. Adam as a retired drummer turned amateur sleuth was different, and I liked the small-town feel with all the drama and suspects.
There’s definitely a lot going on throughout the book—between the murder, the town dynamics, and pieces of Adam’s past. At times it felt a little busy, but it kept things moving and made it a quick read. I did figure out who was behind it, but I still enjoyed following along and seeing how everything played out.
Overall, this was just a solid, easy cozy mystery. Nothing too heavy, just an entertaining read when you want something lighter in between books.
An enjoyable cozy mystery about a retired rock band drummer living in a quaint California town. There was a lot going on in this story.
After the death of a local woman hated by many, Adam begins to investigate. Between local shenanigans, the reemergence of a former band mate, and trying to solve the crime, Adam is constantly busy.
I enjoyed the story, but there were a lot of different threads going on throughout. Although I figured out whodunnit, it was fun to follow along with the logic. A quick and enjoyable cozy.
