Nora helps her grandfather mow the field by watching for little animals in the tall grass and warning him to circle the horses and mowing machine around them
Jessie Haas has written over 35 books for children and adults, many about horses--a lifelong passion. She currently owns a Morgan mare, Robin, who is being clicker-trained to be a trail and pasture-dressage horse. She lives in a small, off-grid house in the woods with husband Michael J. Daley, two cats and a dog. When not writing or riding or reading she likes to knit, cook, and write, or ride, or read.
If Jessie Haas wasn't the author, I never would've read this, since mowing is not exactly the most interesting subject in the world. I also thought it would be impossible for a little girl like Nora to help her grandfather and his pair of Belgians mow the fields.
But she was able to help, and not just her grandfather.
This is a lovely and interesting little book. Although marketed as a kid's picture book, this 55-year-old got a kick out of it. I just wish the horses had names.
The art is absolutely fabulous. It's very detailed, at times from the photo-realism school. My metaphorical hat is off to you, Jos A. Smith. The fawn nearly fell off of the pages into my lap.
