Interesting, but I went into it thinking the book would examine BDSM through a more theoretical lens. It's very quantitative/instrumental in its appraisal of the culture, focusing a lot on statistics, legal institutions, scientific hypotheses, etc. I'd have preferred a blend of ethical and instrumental approaches (perhaps more first-hand information and personal interviews), but I can see now this was not the intent of the editor. Some very neat and factual information, but just that: information.
