Antecedents' Legacy #6

Dreams Manifest

Rate this book
Zander and crew had been sent out to do the take back an Entoma-infested world. No one thought they’d survive, much less make it back without enormous losses. Zander wasn’t about to let the Assembly cost good men and women their lives, and he used practically every trick he had to ensure as few people died as possible.

The Assembly knew its folly when the ships arrived back at the Hub. Not only had the mission been successful, but it had also unmasked a major problem. Assemblyman Quipol Holidan had tried to send others into what he thought was a death mission. He’d even tried to help cover up the attempted assassinations of Zander and Lavella because his nephew had been behind the attempt. They’d been caught, and both Holidans were sentenced to death for their various crimes.

With the mission being a success, a new surge of hope rushed through the Assembly. New laws and regulations were enacted to open teaching positions for the pilots who’d come home. A new age of warfare for the Assembly was about to begin, but it wouldn’t be as quick as some might hope.

The biggest change for Zander wasn’t something for himself, but for Fractured Dreams. Veldiami negotiated an Assembly cruiser for her payment and planned to have Dreams moved over to the new ship. That would also necessitate hiring new pilots and crew, both for the much larger ship and due to existing crew members stepping away to retire or teach.

It was time to start anew with fresh faces, but also time to relax after the grueling mission they’d returned from. With the news of a reclaimed world about to spread, Zander hoped things would be calm for him. However, he was a realist and knew that not everything would be sunshine and roses. The only thing he didn’t know was where the trouble would come from, or what form it would take.

3 stars. Just not enough story mixed in with the relationship stuff, so I skimmed a lot of it to get at the interesting bits. I almost dropped it for that reason, but I may be done with this series. Possibly the author, as this seems to be what he's writing these days.

possibly the most boring one in the series

For a series about using mechs and AI to kill alien bugs, with a mercenary as the MC, this book has none of that.

Sure they do a lot of training to kill bugs, however you never see any of the actual training. The only action in the entire book is some duels, and those are described in maybe a paragraphs each.

The author seems to have each book in his series get more and more tell, and less and less showing of the action.

He doesn’t trust his readers to understand what is going on, or remember longer than a page, as he seems to constantly restate every plan the MC has for the day, as well as repeatedly explaining why he does those things.

Yes this book seems to set up plot points for more exciting plot developments in future books, but none of that happens here. In fact, within this book a subplot is repeated three times: the MC testing a group of new pilots to fill out his ship.

Nothing really different happens during any of those three events, just some names of whoever is talking changed up. The overall testing goes essentially the same…. Three times.

There did not feel like any relevance to this happening. It didn’t further the plot, it didn’t add to a characters growth or motivations, it was merely more pages to show the MC saying (not doing as it doesn’t show any action) the same things over again.

If you are reading these books for the smut aspect, know that each consecutive book appears to have less and less of that. It’s like the author gets tired of coming up with spicy scenes, so he just alludes to most of the action with the morning conversations between characters repeating themselves over and over.

As I have stated in past reviews, i continue to read the authors works because 1) they are on KU, and 2) the concepts behind the story have great potential, and I enjoy thinking about how much better it could be. Maybe book seven will be an improvement.

Excellent story of an OP warrior isekied into another universe continues

Zander continues to shake up the alliance with, to them, unique and radical ways of doing things that were not approved by the antecedents.

Most of the boook was taken up with an overabundance of family interactions, though some of it turned into drama. While interesting, and a hallmark of the author's writing style, I found it getting tedious. There was not enough combat, intrigue or conflict too be satisfying. For example, there was no follow up intrigue after the Dwarven duels. There was only superficial investigation of the attempt to capture Dream's core data, just reference to two unnamed councilors suspected of involvement. Even the various simulator training scenes were glossed over without real substance. The trainees got into the sim pods, then the scenes jumped to the after action report.

Still this is a fantastic series with tremendous potential and I was anxiously awaiting new installments.

Slow on action but,

In my opinion the best in the series so far. Zander is growing or settling down a bit depending how you look at it. I'm glad to see the change from frivolous in side partners to more focused on the family aspect. I personally love the family aspect of harem novels more then just the fact that they have relationships with multiple partners. It was my one peeve with this series when it started. Still even then as always this author made the story so compelling that it was easy to move past my personal prejudices. Anyway if your on the fence over picking up this book ( and at this point in the series is don't see how you could be ) then i assure you it is definitely worth your time and you will certainly enjoy it.

Had to DNF.

I got to 9 percent of the story and was reminded of why I think this is one of the weakest of series in the authors collection.

The OC is actively annoying and unlikable where they come off as smug, arrogant, and a dick.

There is never any true challenge at all which while true in most series it just feels even more spoon fed in this one.

Lastly and this is the main kicker for why I had to give up,unlike most of the other worlds built by the author this one feels empty and hollow. Like they couldn’t think of a fun and Interesting take on why the OC should be special in this setting so instead made everyone else suicidally incompetent.

Aptly named entry

Alternate universe, advanced technology, base building, interstellar war, harem adult situations

Zander and his women spend time at the Assembly Hub training, moving into a larger starship capable of holding a full Mecha fist of five teams, hiring more crew, and quite a bit more. Excellent editing. Engaging calm before they set to investigate "mysterious signals" from an out of the way star system a short distance from the interstellar capital. What a cliffhanger!

Probably the nicest SoL filler ever

As far as filler books go to set up the future story arcs, this book delivers in spades. Touch toi Slice of Life for my tastes but it was needed after the insanity that happened before(just sad there were too many smart characters that chose NOT to spork around and find out) yet I am hopeful that the new event will be key to helping them crush a queen. Can't wait to see if the proud kitty also joins despite his reluctance to add more ladies, everyone needs a cat girl waifu afterall

Not bad

A lot of rinse and repeat sections in quite a few of the chapters. Wake up, flirt, discuss the off screen sex the mc had the night prior, discuss some issue or past interaction then finally clean and go eat breakfast. This was a good chunk of quite a few of the chapters. I don't mind it just not as interesting as the start of the series was. Feels like a lot of filler to keep the storyline from progressing until the last couple chapters. Then insert interesting part, have interesting part in beginning of next book then back to filler

This was another setup book for this series, and as such, nothing major happened. In a nutshell, they got their new ship, the AI transferred over, they tested and took on new pilots to fill out a fist, and some relationship goals were met. It was tedious at times to read through, as much of it didn't have to be spelled out in such detail, and the book felt like filler more often than not.

I'm sure the next book will be strong, as that is what happened after book 4's dead weight set up book 5 for a rocking good time.

So much for killing bugs

So let me start by saying I love your books. However, this series, we are currently six books in we have had exactly 2 fights in the real world and have accomplished almost nothing other than gathering women and resources. I understand you had to prove yourself, but that was what the first five books did move on finally accomplish something this is not supposed to be a slice of life. This is supposed to be a sci-fi.

Another great book

Another great book in the series. While it was not as Acton packed as the previous books it was still a great book and I enjoyed the setup for more gong on in the series. I need to go back to the start now as i thought I'd get away with just reading the last book before this one but am it's done has got me itching to read more. As always thank you for writing your books and sharing these stories with us.

Great addition to the series

A continuation of the series where the last book left off! If you have read this far why would you stop. All should know what kind of reading time will be receiving. This is the same quality writing with same main characters. There are some new characters but it is to be expected with a progressing series. All good and will look forwards to next book.

Great Story

This is another good story from Daniel in this series. He does a great job of telling these harem stories without spending too much time on the sex by mostly using FtB, chapter breaks or whatever. I have commented in the past that he does tend to keep, everything within the relationship perfect and therefore unrealistic but it makes for better escapeism reading and leaving the drama strictly with storyline plots. Look forward to the next one.

Need more

I re-binged the previous five books in the series and came to the conclusion that I've titled this review after reading this book. I. Need. More. Can't wait for number 7 and onwards.

If you like relatively low stakes political intrigue, fun times with the ladies, space flight, Mecha, and good old K.E.W's. Then this book is for you.

5 Stars!

Enjoyed every book in the series so far. I see an endgame coming in the next few books with the bugs because of What happened in book 5 and book 6 ends with a mystery to solve in future books.

The character development continues to be superb. I like that even the AI's develop their own unique personalities.

Awesome as always

Great job as always I really like this series though this one didn't have as much fighting as I'd like but you can tell it's set up for whatever's coming up next and I'm upset that that particular book is not out yet and I have to wait but it's a wait I'm willing to do

A must read author !!

I can't imagine anyone being disappointed by anything this author has written!!! This part of the series was refreshing in there was a lot less adventuring and violence and more character development along with the advancement of the world they reside in!!! I can't wait to see more from this series!!!!

Cute and fun

This book returns focus to the relationships and benefits from that. The characters' relationships are cute and romantic while also being reasonable enough. The world building continues to be a solid background that sets up future plot points.

It's a light, enjoyable read.

Excellent as always

Another awesome read from Schinhofen!!
Love his books, and especially the interpersonal dynamics between his friends, family and crew.

And this book, whilst we don't get any entoma missions, has plenty packed into it that sets up multiple threads for the story to expand and continue growing into the Epic I know it to be!

Good but

So instead of the people having to sleep with or suck his blood to get the nanites needed to upgrade their AIs. Why dont you just petri dish it and give them the resourses to reprodce there then inject it into the pilots... Can get all the nanites in one go.

Good Read

I am a big fan of Schinhofen’s novels. I hesitate to claim this book as filler in the series, so I will say that it is more slice of life than others so far. I look forward to seeing the MC get more action or seeing things escalate and not be drawn out.

For the Power of Dreams

The simplest words often paint the most beautiful picture.

In summary, dreams are maturing for everyone, including Dreams.

More challenges bring more growth to Zander's family, and to their home, Dreams.

DISGUSTED

Absolutely the worst abuse of prior successes to sell something with zero plot line. The “what came before of book 7” will have nothing worth reading except what happened in the last chapter.

Good read

No battles in this book. Mostly about the establishment of Zanders' family and politics of the Assembly. They get a new much larger ship that can handle 25 Mecha. Big battles in the future

Good Filler

This one covers a lot of needed ground, but doesn't advance things much. Logistics, relationships, characters, and innovations abound in enjoyable fashion.
