Flight Risk: A Fated Mates Paranormal Romance

Rate this book
The divorce papers are signed, my RV is packed, and I’m finally ready for a quiet midlife renaissance. What I wasn’t ready for was a dragon claiming me as his.

My plan was hit the road and figure out who I am. It didn’t include six-and-a-half feet of brooding muscle with an intense stare that almost makes me forget my vow of independence.

I thought I could keep things casual—until a moment of exhilaration turns into a deadly freefall, and Kade exposes his true nature to save my life.

He claims I’m his mate, but after twenty years of keeping my wings clipped, being a mate sounds an awful lot like a cage.

He’s a dragon shifter who has finally found his treasure. I’m a woman who just learned how to fly. Now I have to decide if his possessive fire will keep me warm… or burn my newfound freedom to ash.

Flight Risk is an interconnected standalone paranormal romance featuring a mid-life heroine finding her wings, a possessive dragon who cooks a mean steak, and a guaranteed HEA.

This was a cute, quick read about a recently-divorced, 40-something woman tripping over her fated mate while on a road trip to find herself. And he's a motherfucking dragon! Yum!

It's a really straightforward, low-angst, fun, light read. Reese (FMC) gets in her own way a lot in the first half, but it's forgivable because a) she was married for 20 years in a meh relationship, and spent that whole time being the doormat of the family - her needs always came last. And b) she's human, and had no idea that shifters exist, let alone dragons. And lastly, c) this whole thing moves really fast because of the fated mate thing, and it's reasonable for her to get tripped up on it a bit, especially given A and B.

It's sweet, and I enjoyed it. :)

Billed as a pair in their 40's but reads like it was written by someone in their early 30's. It's like the author just googled perimenopause and threw in a whole bunch of words without really expanding into what it truly feels like. Does not convey the amount of DGAF and and irritation and tired that you get around menopause. The MMC names also do not at all fit with 40 year old guys.
But my biggest red flag here? She's known this guy in passing as a business owner for less than 12 hours and he interrupts the conversation she was having with someone else to tell her that she is absolutely not going paragliding with that person? Like, lady you should run. Then when her instructor doesn't show up the next morning but she gets interrupting growly guy instead, that is yet another sign to be running for the hills. Seriously, that's how you get murdered.

Ok, you got me

Your story captured my attention, such a fun read. Just what I needed. The pace was perfect and the characters delightful. Reese and Kade are adorable together, can't wait for more of the story! I have high hopes for the other members of Kade's quad.

Rom com

Cute easy rom com style read about a woman finding herself after a divorce, in her forties with perimenopause falling in love with a hot rugged guy who just turns out to be a dragon shifter.

Easy read. A bit cheesy at parts. But the FMC inner monologue was funny. Could have done with more yearning and a bit longer before they got together.

Any book that contains the sentence “…unfolding to his full height like a sexy Transformer…” is sure to be a hit with my little book club and I as we collect weird quotes like literary magpies.

The other reasons? Well. Let’s start with a FMC that is 41 and just trying to survive perimenopause without sweating too badly. A MMC that is hot, respectful, but also (to begin with) a little bit of a dumbass. Oh, did I mention he has friends? ;) No this isn’t a ‘why choose’ situation sadly (though I’d read that, hint hint) but promises that there will be 4 books in this series.

There were periods where the pacing was a little off but overall this is an easy dragon shifter rom com and I can hardly believe this is the author’s first published work! Blown away. All the praise Lia!

3.5 easy going stars. This was a sweet little low-angst low-conflict pallet cleanser. I loved that both MCs were 40+. It read much more settled and mature. I loved that the romance and MMC were the epitome of green flag, but I will say the complete ease of the relationship made this a tad difficult to stay invested in. I do think you need a tiny little something, even if it’s not between the MCs, to keep you hooked and coming back for more. But still, I just ARC read a heavy emotional book so this was the perfect cozy pallet cleanser. I laughed out loud at times. The end had me giggling. And I will definitely pick up the other books as they’re released for pallet cleansers between heavier reads. Liked Reese and Kade, and the rest of the quad.

. Flight Risk had that instant pull where you tell yourself “just one more chapter”… and suddenly you’re halfway through the book.

The tension between the main characters was so well done. You could feel the push and pull, the hesitation, the vulnerability underneath it all. I especially loved how the emotional walls weren’t knocked down too quickly — it made the connection feel more real and earned.

The pacing was strong and the story flowed effortlessly, which made it such an easy read. There were a few moments where I wanted just a little bit more depth or one extra scene to really seal it, but overall it was a really satisfying romance with heart and chemistry.

Definitely a solid four-star read for me — emotional, engaging, and hard to put down.

A Fun Read

A lovely lighthearted story about new beginnings, finding yourself and falling in love. There is life after divorce and nobody has to just settle for less and even if you aren’t looking for a romantic relationship it doesn’t mean it won’t happen anyway.

Reese is perimenopausal and has a touch of wanderlust and after getting divorced from what turned out to be a lacklustre life she got herself an RV and caravan and started driving. One day finding herself at a campsite called Wings End, she’s in a battle of wills with the awning on her caravan when some guy hotter than sin turns up offering advice.

2.5 rounded up. Questionable choices were made at 12:31 am on a Sunday night. I was influenced by a social media ad, thought it sounded interesting since I wasn't tired and needed something to help me sleep. I stayed up reading, no idea why, it wasn't super compelling but the synopsis said her wings had been clipped. I was waiting for her to turn into a dragon or secretly be a dragon, no, she's straight human. The older characters take was a hook, they read more immature than people in their 40s should be. I guess if hording and grumpy old dragon shifters and cranky 40+ FMCs are your thing, then this is for you. Otherwise, make better decisions than I after midnight.

Characters are in their 40s!
Dragon Shifter
Fated Mates

I absolutely LOVE this novella. I just wish it had been a full length book.

The characters are all in their 40s which makes this my new favourite series. The FMC is trying to find herself following a 20 year marriage all whilst going through perimenopause. She is real and the banter between the mmc and fmc is great.

It is a Fated mates story so a little instalovey but the author manages to drag it out a little with the fmc not wanting to belong to another man so soon.

Can't wait for book 2!

The FMC and writing style made me chuckle. I enjoy the older characters and low-stakes drama. It was very relatable at times. I saw other reviews disliked shallow character development, but the book isn’t very long. It’s a fun beach romance read. It felt a little slow maybe two thirds of the way in and FMC had a FaceTime call where she also holding the phone to her ear, falling short of five stars.

This was a fun easy read with mature characters and dragon shifters. Mature characters is hard to find in paranormal or romantasy so that was a breath of fresh air. I was unaware this was a debut book until I went to look into book two and it’s not out yet. This was well written and intriguing. It kept me entertained and wanting more of the quad. I’m looking forward to book two and more of these dragon shifters.

Dragon romance

This is the first book I've read from this author.
Paranormal romance is a genre I enjoy at times. This story, however, placed an interesting twist on the norm by having a woman in her forties. And an equally older mate, a dragon shifter.
I gave this story a 3⭐️ due to lack of character development.

fully enjoyed, great flow

This was a really good read, the writing flowed and took you on a journey with the characters. About acceptance and realising age doesn’t limit time and experience. Your story can start at anytime, Even if the wrong person stayed longer than they should. Your last chapter doesn’t define your next. Thoroughly enjoyed

Finally a female character for older millennials!

So excited to finally find a shift book that isn't 18 and 20-somethings. I appreciate the 41 year old FMC dealing with things we all deal with, perimenopause, hot flashes, stretch marks, normal female life. The book is a fun read, detailed without dragging on for hundreds of pages. I can't wait for the next book in April!

Very easy low angst dragon swifter read. I loved that the FMC was over 40 ( for us older 40 girlies!) and her inner dialogue had me laughing the whole time. Not really much plot other than their relationship that was on the quick side. I wish there was a little more dynamic with the quad but maybe that will happen in the next books.

This was a great, fun read. I love a good shifter book, and the dragons in this book were an interesting group of shifters. The later in life element made for a unique perspective, and led to a great story. Reese and Kade deserved each other and I really enjoyed their story. I’m looking forward to reading future books involving the other men in Kade’s quad.

So much tension with so little substance

The idea of this story is much better than the end result unfortunately. The main characters are very shallowly written. There is so much tension with little real value. It's biggest pro is the fast pace, followed closely by clean editing. It's just not enough to classify as a truly good book.

controlled regurgitation

Finally, I’m thrilled to see main characters over 40 living exciting and desirable lives. I’m tired of people being thrilled about older female protagonists, especially when they’re only 26. I absolutely loved both Kade and Reece, and I can’t wait to read Lucan’s story!

First mate found

First book the series is interesting but I did find it slow to start. So far only dragons and humans but who knows who the lady is Lucian is hunting. (Next book) each book has a dragon finding his mate. It's a bit meets girl story no drama. Just moving on in life starting new.

Starting Over

This story was about starting over. Reese and Kade’s story was a fun read. She’s trying to find herself after a divorce and he knows he has found his mate. Join these two as they navigate their relationship and figuring out if they really are meant for each other. Enjoy!

Loved it!

This is a new to me author who writes cool down to earth paranormal stories. The characters feel real and the world building is spot on. The plot wasn't rushed and developed at a natural pace. It was easy to read.

They are both flighty

41 year old divorced mother of one is tired of living life by others standards. So what does she do? Buys an RV and lives on the road where she only has to worry for her own desires. Her troublesome awning does so much than block out the sun.

New to me author

Taking a risk on a new to you author can be scary, but I loved this book. Has heart, humor and heat.

As well as great rep for women with creaky knees, hot flashes and an affinity for knowing there's more.

Good Story, and I would read more by this author. The only negative is that it was quick. The story has so much more potential! Hoping to see the author grow in her story telling as she continues to write more!

It felt a little fast-paced for me, and there wasn’t a lot of character development, but I enjoyed it. It’s a solid book to start the series with. It was a nice surprise to see that the characters older than they typically are in shifter romances.
