╰┈➤ My thoughts (spoiler free)
”Same old tired lonely place, walls of insincerity, shifting eyes and vacancy, vanished when I saw your face.”

Wow! First I’d like to say thank you so much to the author for blessing me with an ARC of this magical book, it has been a pleasure to read and review this.

Second, this five stars is in no way faked just because I read the ARC. Ashley Bustamante’s trilogy, Color Theory, has been one of my favorite series for a very long time, and so I just knew this book would be fantastic as well. The prose is beautiful and flows very well, and the atmosphere is stunningly unique.

The plot was constantly keeping me on my toes, wondering how exactly everything would unfold. Secrets and mysteries unraveling at a perfect pace throughout the story. I really loved the romance and the slow-burn aspect of it kept me reading!

All the magical little creatures were so fun to read about, and it brought a lightness to the otherwise deep plot. A blend of whimsy and intensity! The concept of the fortune stone was also very unique.

╰┈➤ Characters
”Your eyes whispered ‘have we met?’ Cross the room your silhouette, starts to make its way to me.”

Nia - A lovely main character! I loved how she had a soft personality but still had determination and stood firm against antagonist. She was written very well, and she made her own decisions rather than being pushed around by the plot. No one likes a punching bag as a main character 😂

Enitan - I loved him!! A gentleman mmc with a green flag personality, and a bad puns kind of humor. He differs greatly from what you see in most fantasies nowadays, and I love it.

Antonia - She was so sweet! Not much focus was put on the side characters but Antonia especially brought a diversity to the scene.

Nielos - I can’t say much about him without spoilers, but I never trusted him!
═════════════════
╰┈➤ Spoilers below!
”This is me praying that, this was the very first page, not where the storyline ends, my thoughts will echo your name, until I see you again.”

So many things to unravel in this book! When it came to discovering all the secrets held inside the castle walls, I was always intrigued by each new revelation, never thinking it to be necessarily predictable. Especially with the curses on all the staff! It makes total sense yet I never thought that could be an option.

I nearly cried when everything happened with Magala! She was so kind to Nia, and it was very sad what happened. The whole situation with the Speculo was also shocking to me! I’m glad he could help Nia and Enitan in the end :)

╰┈➤ Content review
”I’ll spend forever wondering if you knew, I was enchanted to meet you.”

Age Rating - 12+

Language - None.

Romance/Sexual - Some kissing not very descriptive, a couple times Nia is in just her undergarments, Nia makes sure not to peak when she’s around Enitan changing once, and whenever she is wounded on her stomach Enitan makes sure to rip away as little fabric to treat the wound as possible.

Violence - Nia is attacked by a large flying beast and barely escapes with her life, Nia is essentially tortured for not giving something up, a character dies after falling out of a very high window.

Religious/Spiritual - Nia says there a things even more powerful than Nielos, and that is where her fate rests.

Magic - Nia has a stone that brings her good luck and earns its magic from the moon, mentions of sorcerers, a character’s mother was a witch, many curses, magical objects, and magical powers.

LGBTQ - None.

Alcohol/Drugs - Nia turns down an alcoholic beverage for water, later she’s given a drink that essentially works like a truth serum.

Other Notes/Possible Triggers - Past death of parents, past near drowning leaving Nia with PTSD about it, a mention of a character trying to drown herself.

So good!!! Ahhhhh I really love this author so much! Where do I even begin? I enjoyed the world of this newest standalone release by Ashley Bustamante! Anyone who has seen my reviews of her previous books know I’m obsessed with the color theory, and this book did not disappoint!

Full of magic and lovable characters I couldn’t help but binge it in two days! I think I’ve figured out why I enjoy this authors writing so much. The plot is so fun but more so the main characters just are so lovable and feel like friends. This book was no different. I loved both Nia and Enitan so much. With his endless puns 🤣and her strength and love even during opposition I couldn’t help but root for them. And all the other side characters were so much fun too!

This was so much fun and I definitely enjoyed reading and being immersed in Nia’s world. It felt like The Wonderland Trials but add in royal setting + gowns eek! Sounds like fun 😀!!

Content wise I did want to mention there was a lot of talk of magic, spells, and sorcery that did put me a bit on edge at times but it never felt demonic or anything. There was also an allusion to God in the book as well!
So as you can see I really loved this book! Onto the next one!

Also…big thanks to the author for sending me a copy for review!!

Whimsical and filled with wonder, Miss Fortune takes beloved elements from Beauty and the Beast and Alice in Wonderland and twists them into something attractively haunting. With immensely creative creatures, hilarious puns and a swoony romance, Ashley Bustamente's new novel checked all the right boxes for a binge-worthy read for any day of the week!

I loved this so much!! The setting with it's whimsical magic was wonderful, and SO fantastically described! I wish I could project the images in my mind onto a big screen, because it was absolutely beautiful.

I loved the characters, especially (who is surprised?) Enitan. Ashley Bustamante truly has a gift of writing the most CHARMING book-boyfriends ever! I loved his puns so much. I also really loved Perla. A librarian with a frizzy braid who can seem reserved but gets to be bubbly when you get to know her? THATS ME!!

The story itself was so good. It was entirely its own, but shares flavors with fairy tales like Alice in Wonderland (shrinking spell), and Beauty and the Beast (trapped in an enchanted castle). I think that the villain was really cool. I loved just about every scene, and it was especially hard to stop reading once things got dire, but alas, I had a cough (lending me more sympathy toward Nia) and I needed to go to bed.

Can I talk about the setting some more? Thanks. Elevator flowers, crystal caverns, and FRIENDLY MAGIC BOOKS! The magical creatures were so amazing, and I loved Nia's interactions with them.

I feel so very fortunate to have received an ARC, and this book has my wholehearted recommendation!

When I saw that the author of The Color Theory trilogy was releasing a new book, I jumped on the chance to request an advanced copy! Bustamante has crafted another colorful story filled with characters you can root for, yet are still marvelously human, vivid and whimsical world building, and a compelling plot that draws you in from page one!

The concept of a stone bringing our FMC, Nia, luck and good fortune was a fascinating and unique premise. I loved how the author seamlessly built Nia’s character arc around the stone, and lack of it, and how she grew over the course of the story. Enitan also was such a well done character, and I also enjoyed watching the two of them grow together. His puns always made me laugh, especially when they were a little cheesy.

Overall this was an engaging and interesting storyline and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I can’t wait to get a physical copy because they are STUNNING!

MISS FORTUNE is one of the most engrossing books that I have read in recent years. While intriguing from the beginning, it only takes a few chapters before you are forced to give up on essential life activities and simply stay up all night to read! The mysterious elements centered around the castle make it impossible to put down.

Yet, while the novel is an absolute page-turner, it is also more than that. Its enigmatic essence is masterfully developed, as if a character in and of itself. The world that Ashley Bustamante created is deeply immersive and ethereal, with vivid* and enchanting imagery that invites the reader to walk alongside the characters in the castle halls and grounds to uncover the secrets that they may hold. It is a fantasy story that is, in many regards, much like a fairy tale. There are so many imaginative elements, and I could gush on and on about the magical inclusions, whether garden offerings, fantastical creatures, or perhaps curious artifacts. Yet, while I might speak of how delightfully fanciful and lovely the water sprites are toward the beginning of the story, I find that to give more details on the main castle setting would be like uncovering some sort of hidden archives at an inopportune moment or to reveal the mysteries of "the secret garden" when it is best for others to experience it themselves. Indeed, MISS FORTUNE is a secret garden in and of itself, filled with wonder, but the question remains as to what those aforementioned hidden archives will also reveal.

While I would like to, again, keep the mysteries hidden, it may be best to clarify that the tone of the story is not purely whimsical or romantically ethereal. There is also an unearthly quality that is, as one reader described it, "haunting." In other words, this isn't necessarily a cozy fantasy read, despite any shared cottagecore-like characteristics. It has both butterfly and shadowed dagger, metaphorically speaking, all within a YA novel that is appropriate for its core audience (and enjoyable for diverse ages).

As a hopeless romantic, I was already captivated by the notion of a girl being saved by a mysterious boy, only to meet him many years later. I was excited from their very first encounter at the castle, wondering if he would recognize her. I won't reveal whether or not they are "endgame," but I will say that their seeming romance is very sweet. Whether or not Enitan is as he appears, he exhibits a chivalrous, earnest heart. Both Nia and Enitan have their own adorable quirks, whether her giddy excitement and obsession over one day meeting a unicorn to his unparalleled ability to bring puns into everything with a refreshing lack of concern for how it will be perceived. They also each possess unique gifts and interests, from his sculpting to her way with certain lifeforms, which add to their color and authenticity. There is an innocence to their relationship coupled with romantic tension that makes every touch and word meaningful and makes you eager to see the love story unfold. There is mystery here, too, and I very much liked how the curtain wasn't fully drawn back for some time (if it ever is ;) ), as curious as I was to discover how everything would play out! This only increased the aforementioned romantic tension and your desire to finally see a first kiss or declaration of love.

Neilos, the owner of the castle, is an incredibly well-crafted personality. We often speak of characters seeming "real" when explaining why a book captivates us. After all, they are typically at the very center of it all. Yet this is on a level that is quite unique. I will remain vague to avoid spoilers, but I can't say that I have ever encountered this *type* of character drawn in such a way. His perceptive questions and observations, namely in the way that he chooses to converse about them with Nia, are fascinatingly human and true to life, if unusually so. His seemingly unfazed demeanor could have come off too nonchalant, but instead gave the impression of one more discerning. All of this makes you even more curious to see how things will develop, even if you have some idea as to what direction they may take. Similarly, I found the manner in which Nia chooses to engage with him and others to be uniquely astute, whether or not her insights are fully correct. To speak a little more on her:

Nia is an intelligent heroine who is not without her own insecurities. She has developed a sense of caution that can both serve her well and serve as an impediment. As the story begins to take shape, she is not always quick to open up and trust and is more hesitant to allow others into her life. Yet she is, at the same time, very openhearted in the childlike way that she delights in Beauty and wonder. This allows for a more complex dynamic, as well as a firm foundation for character and story development.

The supporting cast is likewise splendid, with characters who are endearing, intriguing, or perhaps a mixture of both! Speaking of intriguing, one of those individuals—a rather peculiar, cryptic, and complex sort—may just be a favorite of mine who deserves to be the focus of a whole new book. There are some cameos that are delightfully chimerical and wondrous, and I would love to see more of them in future stories, too.

There is also thematic merit to MISS FORTUNE that is relevant to all ages: the notion that you are worthy and special just by being you, yet within a deeply atmospheric story that makes the concept more clearly compelling. Likewise, I appreciated the message concerning what really matters in life and how we can impact others in the simplest of ways that is nevertheless beautiful and transformative. There are hints also of a greater Truth, which is briefly alluded to in a subtle way.

I knew from the synopsis that this would be a story that I'd enjoy. I'm all for mysterious enchanted castle vibes and romantasy, after all. But I didn't know that MISS FORTUNE would basically take over my life for a few days, which is one way of saying that it exceeded my expectations. ;)

Enthralling and mesmerizing, this is the sort of book that may encourage a love of reading for those who are more hesitant, as well as serve as a keen reminder to book lovers as to why they fell in love with reading in the first place. An irresistible, spellbinding tale!

*Yes, I know what I did there. ;) Reference: Ashley Bustamante's first published novel is entitled VIVID. Sorry, couldn't resist!

Thank you to Quill and Flame for gifting me this beautiful ARC. I’ll admit I may be a little biased since Ashley is a dear friend, but I’m so excited to share this story.

“The unicorn continued gazing at Nia, soul to soul. Finally, it extended into what was very clearly a bow, then righted itself and took its leave into the cover of the tree. A hush fell over the entire forest.”

It is not lost on me that I am finishing reading this arc on Easter weekend. Jesus knows His timing and what and when we need guidance. The unicorn represented Jesus for me, whether that was intentional or not, I do not know.

This YA fantasy follows Nia, who was gifted a Stone of Luck at age seven by a mysterious boy. Eleven years have passed, and she is coasting along in life. She doesn’t trust anyone and hides herself from the world. With the dark moon approaching, her luck is waning low.

After a near-fatal accident, a man named Neilos saves her and whisks her away to his castle, offering her a deal: stay until the next dark moon, and he will fully heal her lungs.

From there, we follow Nia as she uncovers the secrets of the castle, and flames begin to ignite with the soldier boy who saved her life all those years ago by gifting THE stone her.

“It gave off a light of its own. The white flowers blooming in the surrounding forest dulled in comparison… The unicorn looked straight at them. Straight into Nia’s eyes.”

This story truly gives off a light of its own. While parts of the castle exploration unfold at a gentler pace, it adds to the cozy, immersive feel of the world and allows the magic to settle in around you.
It’s a coming-of-age story filled with whimsy and quiet magic, reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast and Alice in Wonderland. I’d recommend it to readers of all ages looking for something soft, enchanting, and heartfelt.

✨ A lovely, magical read that lingers with you ✨

This book was so so good! There isn’t a single part that I didn’t love! The characters were wonderful, enchanting, real, and seeing Nia’s personal development from the very beginning of the book to the end was so well done, I enjoyed it immensely! The people of Ravenskeep and the castle weren’t just side characters and it felt like there could be other stories about most the people we meet!
The romance between Nia and Enitan was an enchanting childhood friends to more, and their willingness to protect each other even before their relationship was solidified was just so sweet! I loved to see the banter and playfulness between them with the dynamic of her remembering him, but not vice versa, it just added a trueness to their compatibility that this romancer loved!
I loved the mysteries, and the misdirection of the castle, its occupants and Neilos himself. There were times where I was waiting for the “big bad guy” bomb to drop and it was so subtle and sudden I loved the sudden switch in the character.
I loved the ending phrase of the book. It solidified the theme that Nia didn’t need luck, didn’t need her fortune stone in order to gain the life she wanted, she just simply had to be herself. And I love that, because it’s such an important sentiment that is often forgotten or pushed aside in our society to have all these things to be lucky or have the life you desire, when simply living our lives for ourselves can be so much more fulfilling!
This story is a wonderful five stars from my shelf to yours!

This romantasy is sweet and innocent, with a powerful magic wielder working against it.

Nia was orphaned as a child but shortly after was gifted a stone that brought her continuous fortune. The problem..., she would never know her own magic if she were able to rely on that simple stone. When evil tries to steal it away, everything changes. Her heart is so precious that she will go through any trial to keep that power safe. She learns that part of what makes her special is that she doesn't want the stone for herself; she wants to keep everyone safe. When she finds that one man whose heart will align with hers, she can only trust him if she sets him free from a curse. She must face the great evil herself; she must be willing to give up safety and comfort and take perilous risks.

Really, it's something we all must do to truly find love and community. When Nia learns what's insider her she no longer needs the fortune stone, she brings fortune to others with her true love beside her.

Nia’s journey is beautifully crafted, with such natural and satisfying character growth from beginning to end. She felt real, layered, and easy to root for. And Ravenskeep? Completely immersive. The castle and its people felt alive, like every side character held a story of their own.
The romance between Nia and Enitan was pure enchantment—childhood friends to something more, filled with playful banter, tenderness, and that quiet, unwavering protectiveness. The twist of her remembering him while he doesn’t added such a unique depth to their connection, making their bond feel even more genuine.
The mystery kept me hooked, with clever misdirection and a reveal that was subtle yet so impactful. And that ending? Absolutely perfect. A beautiful reminder that Nia never needed luck or a fortune stone just the courage to be herself. Such a powerful and meaningful message.
Thank you to the author for the eARC, tbis is my honest review.

It is a fantastic, whimsical, magical adventure that does not disappoint.
We follow Nia, who thinks the only thing special about her is the magical stone she carries around. I loved seeing her story progress and her special connections to different characters. She is soft hearted and truly cares for others, and I loved seeing that as a strength. This is a hard book to put down. It sweeps you away instantly, especially when truths start revealing themselves and Secrets start to unravel.
This is such a beautiful read for tweens up to adults. With themes such as self worth, love, adventure, sacrifice, and faith, it will truly leave a place in any readers heart.
If you loved howls moving castle with dashes of Alice in wonderland ,you will love this book.

I was blown away by this book! It reads like a masterful fairytale retelling—except it’s an original story! Truly magical in every way, from the setting to the characters to the overarching story. I love it when authors can get me to care about characters without having to go over pears with the trauma or get super dark and gritty with it. While this story definitely has moments of intensity it is perfectly appropriate for young readers (age 12 or older I’d say). There’s no swearing or explicit content, yet it does include a wonderful lil romance arc that just brings a smile to my face! I love how kind and good the main character is, even when she tries to hide herself from the world at times. Her goodness shines a light into the dark world she finds herself in. Characters like that make me want to be the good I want to see in the world.

I absolutely loved this book! I ended up staying up late just to finish it! This book was an amazing standalone by Ashley Bustamante.

Nia was gifted as a child a fortune stone. This fortune stone gave her good luck except this is tied to the phases of the moon. Nia's story moves quickly and soon we join her adventure. I absolutely loved the way Enitan, the young boy, shows up again. This story has so many ways of keeping you on your toes because you are dealing with a great Alice in Wonderland style writing! What is up is down, what is down up!! As Nia tries to figure out what is going on and who is the beast and who is not, as she keeps on going through her own version of Alice in Wonderland world! I highly recommend it!

I was given an early copy of the e-book and I thank Quill & Flame Publishing & Ashley Bustamante. I gave my review, without a requirement. My review is completely my own honest and personal opinion.

This book feels like stepping into a dream that’s equal parts whimsical and quietly haunting, where magic isn’t just beautiful, but totally unpredictable and a little dangerous. I loved how the story plays with the idea of luck as something tangible, almost like a living force shaping Nia’s life in ways that feel both comforting and suffocating. The world has these soft, fairytale-like details, yet there’s an underlying tension that never fully lets you settle, especially with the darker elements woven beneath the romance and wonder. Nia herself is resilient but guarded and her journey carries this subtle ache of loneliness and survival that lingers even in the lighter moments. It gave me strong Alice in Wonderland vibes, but with a deeper emotional weight, making it feel nostalgic, surreal, and just a little bittersweet.

If you loved Howl’s Moving Castle, you will love Miss Fortune!
Twists, turns, and magic will take you on a fun and fantastical ride!

Nia’s luck is tied to a fortune stone that saved her life, but its magic waxes and wanes with the moon cycle. When she’s injured and taken to a magical castle to recover, she begins to see that all is not right. Will she uncover the castle’s secrets and escape?

With enticing elements of Beauty & the Beast, Howl’s Moving Castle, and the Sorcerer’s Stone, this book will have you questioning who is her ally who is her enemy? and if she will escape the magic castle. With sweet romance and a fun cast of characters (who have secrets of their own), this book was entertaining with fun twists and turns.

I absolutely adored this whimsical tale! I loved Bustamante’s Color Theory trilogy, so I was very eager to dive into this new book from her. It was fantastic! I was swept away into this fascinating storyworld and couldn’t get enough of it.

This book had such a unique premise. The world was vibrant and full of imaginative creatures and wonderful, fully fleshed out characters. I was so intrigued by the castle and its residents. And I loved all the puns!

I really enjoyed this book and loved the hints of Beauty and the Beast and Howl’s Moving Castle. I didn’t want the story to end! While it’s beautifully wrapped up, I’d love to visit this world and the characters again.

I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

I loved Bustamante’s first series, The Color Theory series. I really enjoyed being on her street team for that, so I did not hesitate to help with this book too.

This is such a creative and amazing story. Nia, Enitan, even Neilos with his villainess ways were so evil I couldn’t believe it. The magic, the creatures, the Beauty and the Beast vibes were enchanting. So many characters shined. Nia’s bravery and caring nature shined through the pages. The twists and turns were endless and I loved every second. The ending was especially wonderful. I really enjoyed how it all came together.

I can’t wait to see what is next for this talented author.

Miss Fortune by Ashley Bustamante

She can have her luck or Enitan…never both...

Loved this one! Perfect level of fantasy and whimsy. A touch of Beauty and the Beast and a tad of Alice in Wonderland but overall a new fairytale that stands on its own! Absolutely loved all the magical creatures. The romance is sweet and doesn't overwhelm the plot. And I loved the theme of luck! Would highly recommend and I plan on reading more books from this author!

Genre: Fantasy romance (clean)

Standalone

Favorite character: Antonia (side character)

Favorite scene: the final fight with Neilos

I received an ARC copy of this book.

Honestly? I kind of want to live in the castle, but not if the book's villain is also there.

Nia is a kind, intelligent main character, and while she starts the book off as guarded (for understandable reasons), she warms up to others. Enitan, a pun-wielding guard and a young man with whom Nia has a previous connection, offers a sweet love interest and a story of his own. The other supporting characters are well-built, and the setting is cozy, with a sweet resolution.

Miss Fortune is a lovely read, so please check it out when it's released!

Love love LOVE Miss Fortune! Clean as a whistle and the FEELINGS 😍 Once I started reading, probably from chapter 3 on, I was hooked. I can’t get over it. Nia and Enitan were perfect together. I loved the no spice swoon-worthy romance, but more than that (because I’m a tried and true fantasy girlie before all else) was the mystery. Was it revolutionary? No. But it was so fun! Definitely worth the read.

I received an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review, but I also purchased a paperback. Because yes, it’s worth having twice 🩷

Bustamante conjures a world so rich with magic and mystery that it feels like stepping into a dream. This book was great! A lot more laid-back than some of the stories. I’ve read this last year was definitely worth reading.
The characters were rather fun to watch and easy to identify with as well as understand and the storyline while simple was really interesting to observe had fun to see the different twists and turns.
I would highly recommend this for people who are looking for a lovely romance with plenty of funny jokes, wholesome moments, and happy ending that feels satisfying!

Full of whimsy and enchantment, Miss Fortune brings both excitement and humor in a wholesome, and fantastical way. Bustamante masterfully weaves a tale where magic and the easy road always comes with a price, capturing a beautiful tension: the choices between staying safely hidden from the anxieties of a difficult past, or face her fears and enemies for the sake of love.

This book is a new fav!! It's got Alice in Wonderland vibes which I LOVE. I also really like the idea of luck being tied to a physical object. Nia is incredibly relatable as a character and the love story was so sweet. It's one I would reread more than once, which is rare for me.

Miss Fortune is a lovely cozy fantasy with plenty of curiosity and fun, whimsical details. I loved the magic system revolving around moon phases, the fantastical creatures, and the various friendships that developed along the way. Overall, a sweet, delightful, and cozy read.

Yet another dazzling novel by Ashley Bustamante! The romance in this one was so cute and wholesome, and the fantasy aspect had such depth that I was always wanting more. This was an adorable little story about love, friendship, and learning what matters most ❤️
