When he found me I was broken, a shell of my former self. Going through the motions of life without really living it. Trauma lingered in my life like a shadow, creeping into my memories and invading my dreams, until he came along. Jax Beckett barged into my world with his irresistible charm, endless patience, and those dangerously good looks that could make any woman weak in the knees. He has me feeling emotions I thought were long gone. He shines a light into my otherwise dark existence, slowly helping me to rebuild myself with every intimate touch. Could this be my chance at love? It all seems a little too good to be true.- Debut novel from Australia romance author Margaux Paris. -Sydney based young adult romance. -Trigger wanrnings.
Margaux Paris is a Sydney-based indie author and lifelong romance enthusiast. She made her debut in 2025 with Broken, the first book in the Damaged Hearts Duet, followed by Flawed, released on Kindle in July 2025.
In November 2025, Margaux expanded the world with Wounded, a standalone spin-off set within the Damaged Hearts Universe, exploring the same emotionally charged themes of love, trauma, and resilience through a new lens.
Inspired by her love of romance in all its messy, intense forms, Margaux writes stories that blur the line between heartbreak and healing. Her next release, Dirty Sparkle, is scheduled for April 2026 and marks the beginning of the Unconventional Ink series.
When she’s not writing, Margaux is usually wrangling her three young sons or escaping into another romantic, spicy read.
This was a very short and emotional read. Definitely check the trigger warnings for this only because this is emotional. It was a good read because of Ally and her history and story. But the ending I had an idea about but it still hit harder than I expected. And the worse part is that there are people like this in real life who do this everyday! I need book 2 because I need closure and comfort after that.
I am so completely stunned right now after finishing this book. I honestly feel... everything. I am at war with my emotions right now and the top two are shocked and angry. I was hooked from the title alone. I instantly fell in love with the characters, the witty banter and the spice was perfect. The ending absolutely floored me. I still can't believe how this ended. Nicely played Ms. Paris, I didn't see that coming.
Where do I even begin? 🤩 5 stars from me! This book was so enjoyable to read, I flew through it; I couldn't put it down! 📖 I really liked the writing and all of the characters, the ending made me run to the bookstore for book 2. 🏃♀️ You won't be disappointed with this series! ✨
Loved this book and the connection between the characters. Jax was so beautiful and gentle. There were a few warning signs but didn’t see that coming. I’m left with why ?
This book literally succeeded in pissing me off at every moment. There was character growth but just overall I want to say I hated it. I don’t even know if I would call this book a romance book…
It follows Ally, a SA survivor who hasn’t recovered from her past trauma, who meet Jax at a bar and starts to open up to him. As a reader of dark romance, I saw all the red flags, and called them out, but tried to ignore them under the pretense that this book just was under editing, but NOOOO I was right.
The ending was absolutely obvious and I want to be more upset that I didn’t see it coming because I have never read a non-hea in my life… I am upset but I also need to know if there is going to be a second one. This left me unwell and I am not okay.
This is the kind of book you’ll love to hate—and hate to love. Broken doesn’t ask for your permission before it wrecks you. It just walks in, drops Ally and Jax into your lap, and dares you to feel everything.
Ally meets Jax in a bar, and from that moment, you think you know where this is going. You don’t. Margaux Paris doesn’t write fairy tales—she writes truth. Ally’s past trauma isn’t just a plot device; it’s a living, breathing part of her. She’s done the work. She’s healing. And then Jax shows up—not as a savior, but as a safe place. He’s patient. He’s kind. He calls her his girlfriend like it’s the most natural thing in the world, and somehow that word becomes a lifeline.
This story is painfully real. It’s not about fixing someone—it’s about loving them while they fix themselves. Ally doesn’t magically transform. She stumbles. She spirals. She claws her way through the wreckage of her past, and Jax is there, steady and soft, letting her be messy and magnificent.
You won’t see what’s coming. You’ll think you’re fine, and then you’ll be sobbing into your hoodie at 2 a.m. You’ll feel rage, hope, devastation, and maybe even a little healing of your own. Broken is a mirror and a gut punch. It’s not pretty, but it’s powerful.
If you’ve ever loved someone who’s been through hell—or been that someone yourself—this book will find you.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A tender, emotionally rich dark romance that handles trauma, consent and healing with care and honesty.
Broken follows Ally, an introverted book editor who has carefully built a quiet, controlled life after past trauma. When a chance encounter introduces Jax, a tattooed stranger who prioritises safety, patience and respect brining her back out into the world.
This isn’t a story of instant sparks, but of trust built through consistency, thoughtful gestures and unwavering reassurance. Jax listens. He remembers and most importantly, he never pushes.
Margaux Paris writes with empathy and restraint, allowing space for fear, vulnerability, and messy emotions without ever romanticising pain. The romance is soft yet powerful, proving that healing doesn’t mean being “fixed” but being seen and accepted.
Emotionally heavy, beautifully written, and quietly devastating in places, Broken is less about being saved and more about choosing to stay open, even when it’s hard.
A must-read for lovers of emotionally driven dark romance, trauma-aware love stories and characters who love deeply, not loudly. 💔✨
“Today would’ve broken me- if he hadn’t been here”

Ally meets Jax when she finally heads out for the first time in a while - and let’s just say he makes an impression. With his 6’3” frame, chest and sleeve tattoos and those undeniable gentleman vibes - Jax is serving all the energy🔥
He quickly notices that Ally is carrying past trauma; but instead of pulling away; he pursues her with patience and care. Jax slowly helps her rebuild her confidence and rediscover her ability to trust again 💕
We get to learn so much about Ally in this story and the glimpses we get of the mysterious MFC left me so intrigued. And that ending?! I need book two immediately!
Broken by Margaux Paris had me emotionally whiplashed in the best way. We’ve got Ally, who’s basically trying to glue her life back together after a mountain of trauma, and then Jax strolls in all tall, charming, and “I’ll fix everything” energy. Naturally, I fell for him right along with her… rookie mistake… I think 🤔
Because just when things start looking up… boom. Cliffhanger. The kind that makes you immediately reach for book two like your sanity depends on it.
I inhaled this book in one sitting. It pulled me in, wrecked me emotionally, and then had the audacity to leave me hanging. It’s raw, addictive, and full of heart (and heartbreak). If you like your romance with a side of chaos and healing, this one’s for you.

I was completely absorbed from start to finish, this is a truly unforgettable read that explores the complexities of healing and moving forward.
Told from Ally's POV, the story delves into her life as she tries to overcome the trauma she experienced four years prior.
With its emotional depth and relatable characters, this book is sure to leave a lasting impression especially with its shocking cliffhanger ending.
I'm genuinely intrigued to continue Ally and Jax's story in Flawed, the second book in the Damaged Hearts Series.

Broken, the first book in the series by Margaux Paris, is an emotionally engaging read that successfully balances heartfelt moments with an enjoyable level of spice. The story delivers strong emotional pull, drawing the reader into the characters’ struggles and relationships, while still maintaining a sense of fun and chemistry throughout. Paris does well in establishing the foundation for the series, creating characters that are easy to invest in and a storyline that encourages readers to continue on. Overall, Broken is a compelling and entertaining introduction to the series that blends emotion and romance effectively.
This book has me in allllll the feels! The cliff hanger I sort of saw coming but hoped I was wrong, the protective brother we all swoon for and the friend we kind of hope she ends up with but then we also don’t?! I read this book in maybe 5 hours and regretted nothing! Crazy to think if I hadn’t had to read this as a book club read I may have never got to experience it! Not only is this book so easy to read but Margaux is a fellow Aussie author and I love that!
This is a debut novel that will have wanting to read book 2 of the series asap. Ally the female lead has gone through so much at a young aged that has walls up and you will cheer for from the beginning. Enter Jax so swoon worthy and he is there for Ally from the first moment they met. The rose is so sweet you will truly love after that. Jax does act harsh will Ally at times that you will be like what. This leaves on a major cliffhanger that will leave you so shocked and wanting book2.
What a great read this was. I could not put it down and need book 2 right now! Ally and Jax had undeniable chemistry until they didn’t.. I fell in love with Jax until I didn’t.
It’s not a long book but is worth the read. Trust me, you will get pulled into their love story and will be begging for book 2!
loved loved loved! Aussie creator who isn't afraid to write how some of us think!! My only wish is that it had been longer! I didn't want to put it down!
This one is short, but very emotional. I really enjoyed this one and now I’ve had my first taste of the wonderful Margaux I’m coming back for more. This is definitely one of those check the trigger warnings before reading kind of books. But if you can handle them you will not be disappointed. I am so excited for book two because that ending has me needing my next hit like its crack 🤭
Broken follows Ally and Jax. From the moment these two they have this wonderful connection that starts to take hold of them. Something either of them will ever be able to let go even if they try. They both have lot of baggage and its going to take someone amazing to support each other. Have they found that in each other? You’re going to need to read to find out…
I don’t want to give too much away. This is one of those short books, that will grab a hold of you and you wont want to put it down. Do yourself a favour and grab your copy of broken today.
I absolutely fell in love with the plot and characters from start to finish. The FMC Ally has been through a lot and is on her healing journey after everything. The MMC Jax is very kind and patient with Ally. Jax didn't try to fix Ally at all but was just there for her. I thought they were really good together I loved their spice and banter. Without spoiling it I did not see the book ending like that I can not wait to read the next one. Please check trigger warnings before reading.
The overall plot of this book was nice until that ending… which I’m still reeling from. Some of the writing and phrases reminded me of Wattpad, but it wasn’t horrible. Part of me wanted to forget about it but the other part needs to know why Jax did what he did. The author mentioned a second book, but I’m honestly really curious how he’s going to come back from this and if Ally will ever trust him or literally anyone again😭

Margaux asked me to have a look at her book Broken in mid- end of March. She was wondering why she had sold 100 on a 2 day free kindle share, but not rcvd one review.
I said I'd take a look and see if anything stood out.. hmm.. well I did write back and let her know that due to the nature of the topic, and the style of writing, I didn't feel I could give a fair review; and it would probably do less damage if I didn't post one. Even with the trigger warning (which doesn't bother me, I read past those anyway) I just couldn't get into it.
I did, however send some ideas back and forth, and one was to make a GR profile and actually ask for ARC reviews. I think I was her 1st and only "friend" and I'm so happy to see that she's made a real effort to connect directly with some readers!
So, I'm still not putting a rating, as it wouldn't be fair. I'm glad to see the other ladies have given some valuable feedback, and you are discussing the upcoming 2nd part and where the story may go! That's the beauty of GR reviews, especially if the next book is an ARC shared before releasing- to allow time for any needed rewrites. I've followed most of these gals reviews for awhile and you can trust them!
I wish you all the success as your career moves forward,, and good grief I don't know how you do it with 3 young boys. My 3 are grown! LOL
🌶️ - Very vanilla sex with love making, very sweet but still had a hint of darkness. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.2 - Giggling kicking feet and playing with my hair. Great banter and jokes, writing was excellent and the plot was easy to follow and understand.
This book!!! OMG where do I go from here!
No Spoilers Wow, I think this book just began to heal me in a place I had no clue needed healing. I loved the characters and related alot of Ally (MFC)The book is set in Sydney Australia and uses some Aussie slang which I think was super fun and would be interesting for none Australians to read. The book id told from Ally's perspective only. She had an ex who abused her and she is now frightened of all men and their touch until she meets Jax a 6'4 black haired caramel latte eyed gentleman. There wasn't a man plot outside of her healing for her trauma but it was still very interesting. It was a quick book that I finished in about 3 hours. Lots of funny moments and cute moments where I was literally kicking my feet! The spice was very classical in this book but still super tender.
SPOILERS THE ENDING!!! OMG, the way they finally made love and she was healed then he leaves!! AND THE CONDESCENDING LETTER???? This book ended in a cliffhanger. I feel so conflicted and I genuinely feel like I have just been through the relationship with Ally and OMG am I BROKEN (fitting name) I need the second book to end happily or I hate all men, again!

Excuse you, Margaux, what was that ending?! How. Rude.
Ally is a survivor of SA (check the TW!) and this story is about Ally slowly connecting with someone who makes her feel safe, respected, and comfortable. It’s sweet, it’s heartwarming, and it really stays with you. Ally’s character growth is genuinely incredible.
“Ally, I can’t know where the boundaries are if I don’t understand them.” That line? Everything. The communication, the respect, the intention — exactly what you want to see.
Also, Ally’s brother and the honorary “brother from another mother”? Top-tier protectors. The kind of duo every girl needs in her corner. (Also, are we getting Nate’s story at some point?? Please)
There’s humour, connection, love, understanding, and real growth woven through this story. It’s genuinely beautiful … until THAT ENDING. I had to dive straight into book 2, Flawed.
Side note: you can tell everything you need to know about a person if they order peanut butter on toast topped with scrambled eggs. Immediate red flag. Straight to jail. PSYCHO behaviour 🚨
THIS BOOK!!! I absolutely devoured this one in I think maybe 2 hours and I’m not a fast reader by any means. I just needed to know more because I’m nosey 🤭 Jax, sweet romantic sexy Jax 🤤 I mean it when I say I LOVED JAX. He was everything you’d want in a man and mmc. The level of love and attentiveness had me jealous of Ally 🤣 i decided I’d read the second half of the book after 10pm.. well fuck that was a bad idea 🤣 The ending to Broken had me in a state of shock, panic and a WTF just happened here moment.. Enough to message Margaux and spiral to her about it 😅 Ally the fmc was lovable, cheeky and strong. The banter between Jax and Ally was top notch and made for such an easy and enjoyable read… but again that ending! Rough as hell hahahah!! Definitely check your trigger warnings and take my advice and don’t read the ending super late at night because you will lose sleep over it and download the next book Flawed in a panic for answers… andddd proceed to read for another hour 🤣
Told in first person from Ally’s POV, Broken is a dark romance that hooked me right from the beginning.
Ally is a FMC who has lived through deep trauma and is slowly trying to piece her life back together. Then she meets a man who seems to see her, not just her scars, not just her past, but the real her. He helps her through the pain, makes her feel seen and cherished, almost perfect. But the question lingers… are people ever really that perfect?
This book gave me everything I love in an emotional read: the butterflies, the gasps, and that jaw-dropping ending (yes, I messaged the author straight after because wow).
If you’re after a dark romance you won’t be able to put down, I can’t recommend Broken enough. I was so engrossed I dived straight into the next book without even pausing. Best part? It’s available now on Kindle Unlimited.
This book was really interesting. I really enjoyed reading it and from the moment I started reading it I just couldn’t put it down. The characters were charming and kept me in suspense just wondering what happened to them in their past to make them the way they are. I really didn’t like the ending of the book because it ended so abruptly and I feel like there will be more to Ally and Jax’s story. There is no way he could have done all those romantic gestures and they had such a good relationship for the ending to just end abruptly. I wonder if they’ll be a book two because I felt like there’s more to the story.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was hooked on the mysterious storyline from page one, curious about the MC's dark past, fascinated by the steamy turn of events throughout the novel, and left wanting so much more by the end...
Not my usual genre, but I'm so glad I picked it up and looking forward to reading the next installation!
This was a good book. It definitely pulled my heart strings. Ally is dealing with some significant past trauma and feels broken. Will Jax help her put the pieces back together? Or will she rely on her brother who is protective of her. I am ready to dive in to the book ASAP!
A story about trauma, resilience and trying to overcome. Finally allowing another to get close enough to help heal you, feeling loved and safe but then they rip your heart out at the end!
Read the trigger warnings.
Onto book 2 because I need closure...
