Warzone: Alex Holst files #1

Cade Blackwell never came home from the war, at least not the same version of himself everyone remembers. He'd like nothing more than to be that man again...to be normal, but with physical and mental scars, it may not be possible. At least he thinks he wants normalcy until he meets Alexandria Holst--cold, blunt, and an absolutely brilliant detective. What begins as nothing but a chance meeting soon rips him from civilian life and thrusts both of them into a murder investigation that has the police baffled and Alex thrilled at the prospect of the puzzle. He shouldn't tempt death, not after nearly dying in Afghanistan, but he's never felt more alive than when he's running through the streets of Washington D.C. Sometimes toward danger, sometimes away from it, but always with her--a woman who both intrigues and frightens him. The shadows they chase may be nothing compared to the darkness in her head. Cade knows one thing for certain. If he's a soldier, Alex Holst is definitely a warzone.

This book hit the ground running and was one of the most intriguing I've ever read. Alex Holst solves crimes. And she is a certified genius. She can read people like a book. Cade is a conflicted person, just out of the military due to an injury in Afganistan. When Alex needs his help in solving a crime, he figures he might as well go ahead.

This book does not let up, the action continues to build until you feel like you're on a train hurtling along at breakneck speed downhill, about to crash! Fast paced, intriguing and characters that I may never figure out held my interest completely. Wow is not really a good enough word to describe this book. I loved it!

I am looking forward to more in the Alex Holst Files series.

I read Warzone:Alex Holst Files #1 with growing interest. When I realized this was a Sherlock Holmes type story with a female lead character I wasn't sure. I'd watched a couple of episodes of the TV series Elementary and never quite bonded with a female Sherlock type, but as I read this book, the characterization of Alexandria (Alex) grabbed me and I found myself liking her very much. Her reluctant companion, Cade, also drew my interest from the start. The interplay between these two characters was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed this book until the very end. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this author's first book and I really liked this one too. It is a really good mystery and suspense that pulls you into the story line and the lives of the characters from the first pages. It is also fun watching the interaction between the characters - Cade, a soldier home from Afghanistan, and Alexandria, a hard nosed smart detective. This is the first novella in a series, and I am definitely looking forward to the next installments.

Sherlock Holmes with a modern twist--such an accurate description! Alex Holst reminds me of Sherlock Holmes with her trusty Watson (Cade Blackwell)--two quirky (and funny, I might add) characters that make it a GREAT read. This story was action-packed from the get-go; I really loved the story and had a hard time putting it down--I can't wait to see more of these characters! Buy the book--you won't be disappointed!

I was given a free copy from the author for my honest review.
