I always thought it was true about my daughter’s dreams. Gail wanted to be an actress and I would do anything in my power to make that happen. My own dreams? They had gotten hopelessly lost in the turmoil of every day struggle. So out of reach I stopped dreaming altogether. Up until Harrison Trent showed up in our small town for auditions to a TV show he directed.
I thought it was a make or break for Gail. Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected it was one for me, too.
Harrison Trent, a millionaire movie director, with a gaze like fire, lips like sin and a tongue that could make you beg. He came for the auditions, but he stayed for… me?
Victoria Liiv is a writer, reader, nature lover and traveler at heart. She has been traveling through magical worlds since a very young age and wants more than anything to share the wonder with everyone else eager to escape from all things mundane. Let it be a magical adventure through slowly darkening Earth or a soul crushing fight for survival and love while the world burns. Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of romance.
She self published her debut novel Through Hell & Highwater on 2020 when the pandemics keeping her isolated gave her the reason to follow her dream of becoming an author. She hasn’t looked back since. Afterworld: Road to Redemption is Victoria’s second novel. She is grateful for the opportunity to be able to co-write it with Olivia. This February 2023, she’ll also be releasing Treasure Me, a contemporary romance, as part of Tease Me box set. With many more ideas and characters keeping her awake at night this is only the beginning of her writing career.
In her everyday life she found the magic in her partner, who gave her courage to move out of Estonia, the country she was born in, to an equally small but more known The Netherlands. He was also the one who encourages and supports her throughout her writing process.
Betty Evert’s daughter Gail wants to be an actress. Betty is a single mother, working low paying jobs and cutting things out of their groceries just to afford them. Her dreams have been lost. Until Harrison Trent shows up to audition girls for his new TV show. And until he becomes infatuated with Betty. And casts Gail. Did i mention he becomes obsessed with Betty?
Second chance romance with a billionaire director tropes. Rags to riches trope. A little spicy (or a lot!)
3.75 stars rounded up to 4. This was a novella so of course things were happening quickly. No notes on this. This was lowkey amusing.
I had the amazing opportunity to read this as an ARC, and honestly, I really enjoyed it. This book is fast-paced and super easy to get into. If you like single mom, small town romance, attraction at first sight, and second chance romance, this one might be for you. It was sweet, cute, and had just the right little hints of spice 🌶️ There were moments where I felt exactly what Betty was feeling.... And Harrison? Always showing her how strong and worthy she is 🥹 it was even sweeter If you’re in the mood for something cute and easy to fly through, this one’s a solid pick 💕📖
And Cut was such a cute and quick read. Victoria Liiv truly did it again — this was another book I simply couldn’t put down.
The story had the perfect balance of everything: sweetness, spice, and an engaging plot that kept me invested from start to finish. It was fun, fast-paced, and incredibly enjoyable . Overall, this was a story I flew through and genuinely loved reading.
Super adorable story. Fell in love and related to the main character instantly. The book is a very quick read but tells a good story, and wraps up nicely. Would totes recommend.
I’m struggling a bit in how to rate this novella. In the end I decided to settle on 3 stars. * Insta Lust * Older characters, Second Chance * Super sweet teenage girl * Teen TV series production setting I really liked Betty and Harrison. What kind, ambitious and hardworking people. Gail, the teen daughter is just stinkin’ cute. The story felt heartwarming, lovely - but then a sonic boom sex scene would drop in. They didn’t really fit the vibe of the storyline or setting. I don’t mind sex scenes, these seemed misplaced in this story. 🙂 Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for the ARC.
This was a quick and sweet read for me. I really enjoyed the idea and setting of the story, I felt like it was pretty original and fun. I wouldn't mind if there was even more of the filming background, Hollywood and all these things around shooting a tv show with a popular director.
The characters were nice, though I wish there was more depth to them, and also to their relationships. Betty with her daughter, Gail, were cute, seemed to be very close and understanding of each other, but we unfortunately didn't really see them interacting that often. Same with the main romance, which was good, but would be even better if it was a bit slower and had more of an arc. For my taste, there was too much insta lust and insta love, but in the end, I think Betty and Harrison are great for each other. I truly loved how he treated her, and how he made her see her own worth and dreams.
So overall, I enjoyed the story, and for the fact it was basically a novella, a lot of funny, cute or even spicy things managed to happen. I think it's a great book for one or two evenings, when you wanna read something that'll make you smile and wish there were more men like Harrison Trent. (Except the immediate lust, that was not it for me haha... But later he got me to be down bad for him, so it's all good.)
Thanks a lot to NetGalley and Victoria Liiv for this ARC copy!
The premise of this book is cute, however, I felt that instead of any emotional connection from MMC at the beginning, his thoughts were very lusty. I understand that this is advertised as a short and spicy book, so I expected the spice. But his very first thoughts about the FMC were really explicit, during a moment that was embarrassing and vulnerable for her. As an introduction to his character, it felt a bit unnatural and overly sexual. As the book has enough smut scenes to fulfil the "spicy" advertised part of the book, I think we could've done without his overly sexual thoughts, at least early on. Having said that, the pacing of this book is (expectedly) fast and if you want a quick spicy read and don't need much emotional development, you might like this more than me.
⊹₊ ˚‧┈┈┈┈⋆ ᴛʜᴇ ʀᴇʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴꜱʜɪᴘ ⋆┈┈┈┈‧ ˚ ₊⊹ I feel like we could've had a bit less/shorter movie filming scenes, to use them on building their relationship instead. MMC at one point mentions that he barely knows FMC and it feels just physical, so I really hoped we would watch them get to know eachother, but that development felt more off-page. By the time they say they love eachother I just didn’t fully feel it. It read more like instalust that turns into instalove because the story needed to end. I am aware that that's a personal preference, but I did want to mention it.
⊹₊ ˚‧┈┈┈┈୨୧ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀꜱ ୨୧┈┈┈┈‧ ˚ ₊⊹ MMC About: Harrison Trent, 42, millionaire movie director Appearance: Brown hair, grey eyes, neatly trimmed beard FMC About: Betty Evert, single mom Appearance: Black hair, deep brown eyes
I received an advance copy of this book prior to publication from the author. This review reflects my honest opinion.
This was a short, fast-paced read with instant attraction that was easy to sink into from the very first pages. The story moves quickly, making it a perfect pick when you’re in the mood for something light, romantic, and comforting.
I really enjoyed the small-town romance paired with the perspective of a struggling single mom. One of my favorite moments was the opening grocery store scene — it gives such a clear sense of who Betty is, her relationship with her daughter, and her first interaction with Harrison. When the story shifts to his point of view and reveals why he acted the way he did in that scene, I couldn’t help but laugh.
Despite its shorter length, the author does a great job capturing Betty’s insecurities and fears and so Harrison’s many not-so-innocent thoughts — balanced by his attentiveness and genuine interest in her. I liked Harrison as a character, even though he felt a bit contradictory at times: clearly drawn to Betty, yet hesitant to fully act on it. That said, he’s very much a green-flag MMC overall.
As a reader, I would have loved a bit more depth when it comes to Betty’s past insecurities and her previous relationship. The book touches on it, but I found myself wanting more background and emotional context — something that’s understandably difficult to fully explore in such a short story. Personally, I wouldn’t have minded if the book were quite a bit longer, with room for more drama and development.
There is some erotic spice, but it’s mild and delicately handled. Scenes are short rather than explicit or drawn out, which gives the story strong Hallmark-style vibes with just a hint of heat.
Overall, this was a sweet, cozy, and fast read with instant chemistry, small-town charm, and a gentle touch of spice — perfect if you’re looking for something romantic and feel-good.
Book: And Cut Author: Victoria Liiv My Rating: 4/5 ⭐️ Spice Level: 4/5 🌶️ Genre: Romance Release date: March 12th, 2026 Tropes: - Rich x poor - Single mother - Small town romance - Recently divorced - Attraction at first sight - Movie director
My Thoughts And Cut was a pleasant surprise. It is a short and sweet read written by Victoria Liiv! I normally read books that are longer than 200 pages, so this was a refreshing change. I finished this book in less than 2 days which was a surprise since it usually takes me 4-7 days to finish a book. Yes, I skipped the spicy chapters so I don’t have any comments on that (you’ll have to see for yourself). All-in-all, I think And Cut is a cute, short, and spicy romance that I quite enjoyed.
Blurb: Dreams are meant to be pursued. I always thought it was true about my daughter’s dreams. Gail wanted to be an actress, and I would do anything in my power to make that happen. My own dreams? They had gotten hopelessly lost in the turmoil of everyday struggle. So out of reach I stopped dreaming altogether. Up until Harrison Trent showed up in our small town for auditions to a TV show he directed. I thought it was a make-or-break for Gail. Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected it to be one for me, too. Harrison Trent, a billionaire movie director, with a gaze like fire, lips like sin and a tongue that could make you beg. He came for the auditions, but he stayed for... me?
"He made love like an artist, drawing out the pleasure, giving shape with each rock of his hips."
What a well written feel-good novella that makes for the perfect one-sitting read. I loved the small-town-meets-Hollywood vibe, with just enough behind-the-scenes flavour to feel fun & fresh. The story centers on Betty, a single mom, who's poured everything into Gail's, her daughter, dreams, only to find her own life quietly shifting when she crosses paths with a successful, charming director. The setup gives spicy Hallmark channel energy, and the book manages to pack in plenty of sweet, funny, and flirty moments without overstaying its welcome.
The characters were easy to root for, especially Betty, who grows into herself in really satisfying ways throughout the story, even if we didn't really get to know who Betty was other than Gail's mom, a maid at the Star Inn & Harrison's love interest. The romance leans into insta-lust at first, and Harrison's *VERY* physical fantasy in the grocery-store scene made me squirm a bit, but once they get past that initial spark, their dynamic settles into something warmer and a lot more grounded. There are moments that felt a little surface-level, and I would've love just a bit more depth into their emotional arc, but given that this is a novella, it still delivered a comforting, low-stress romance with a sweet HEA that made my heart extra gushy by the end.
If you're int the mood for a quick cozy read with a millionaire-director-meets-single-mom trope & some open-door spice, And Cut fits the bill nicely.
This book was on the short story side, but it was nothing short of amazing! I noticed myself several times- kicking my feet and giggling. It was cute, it was saucy, it was intense and fun! Everything you want in a book.
I especially liked the shifts in perspective, it really helps you see the pining and the way the heat between them unfolds.
Spoiler?! Not really but a clip from the book…
One part I loved and stood out to me: I’ve stopped believing that there are incredible things in store for me, Harrison…. His other hand rubbed my thigh, igniting flames. “ There are many incredible things in store for you, love”. That would be enough for me. Whew.
I liked that the spicy scenes felt like they could be real. Like nothing that is too far fetched, it’s believable.
I love that the book was short, because it leaves no room for things to go wrong. Real life goes wrong sometimes, but having this short and sweet, it left no room for the miscommunication troupe that I hate. I know I could have read it in one sitting but I didn’t have a lot of time. It took me 2 sessions, because life is lifing right now!
I would definitely recommend it for anyone wanting a short, cute read. It would go great as an in-between books, or if you don’t want anything too deep like a series you have to pay a lot of attention to. Or if you need a help to get back into reading, this one is gonna do it for you!
It’s very heartfelt and light hearted.

And Cut by Victoria Liiv is a super cute, super sweet, and super quick romance that had me smiling the whole way through. This story follows Betty, a mom who has quietly put her own dreams on the back burner so she can help her daughter, Gail, chase hers. Betty works nonstop, budgets every last penny, and sacrifices more than anyone probably realizes – all so Gail has a real shot at becoming an actress.
When Gail auditions for the lead role in a new TV series, they meet Harrison Trent…a millionaire movie director who definitely wasn’t expecting Betty to walk into his life.
The banter between Betty and Harrison is everything. Their back-and-forth is witty, playful, and so natural that I couldn’t help but grin every time they were on the page together. The chemistry is adorable…with enough spice in Harrison’s thoughts to keep things extra entertaining. I mean…yes, sir…
What I loved most about this story is the heart behind it. It’s not just about romance – it’s about sacrifice, chasing dreams, and realizing that maybe it’s not too late to reach for the things you want in life.
It’s funny. It’s romantic. It’s heartfelt.
And it’s a quick little reminder that dreams are meant to be pursued – no matter when they find you.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
And Cut: Daring Performance Productions offers a glimpse into the world of performance, creativity, and the passion that drives people to bring stories to life. Victoria Liiv explores the energy behind the stage — the ambition, challenges, and emotional investment that go into creating something meaningful through art.
The story highlights the dedication required in the performing arts, showing both the excitement of creative expression and the pressures that often come with it. The characters navigate personal struggles, professional expectations, and the vulnerability that comes with putting their work — and sometimes themselves — on display.
One of the most engaging aspects of the book is how it captures the behind-the-scenes dynamics of performance. It reminds readers that every production is not just about the final act but also about the journey, teamwork, and risks taken to make it happen.
Overall, And Cut: Daring Performance Productions is an interesting and creative look at storytelling through performance, celebrating both the artistry and the determination of those who bring stories to the stage.
Creative, engaging, and a thoughtful look into the world of performance and storytelling.
A single mum, a local director, and a chance to change their lives…it’s And Cut.
Betty is determined to do what she must to make a better life for her talented daughter Gail. But the director of the tv series Gail is cast in has got her feeling all sorts of things she hasn’t felt in a long time.
Stuck in a small town making his latest hit, Harrison is frustrated. Not because of the show - because the mother of his new star is driving him insane. From the moment he first met her, he has been drawn to her. Will their attraction grow to something more, or will it be cut short?
This was a fun, sweet novella. With a very British feel, it tells two stories - the romance of Betty and Harrison, and the narrative of the tv show. It is essentially a billionaire romance, with Betty and Gail starting out unable to afford groceries.
Harrison and Betty - in their late 30s/early 40s - have an almost teenaged fling. Things develop at a steady rate, giving a medium burn intensity. It’s definitely a spicy story, with several open door scenes. The plot and spice are nicely balanced, with neither overwhelming the other.
All up, this was a great little read that will be the perfect afternoon treat for fans of contemporary romance.
3⭐️ Thank you NetGalley for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!!
The book is super fast paced and easy to get into. The story is cute and wraps up nicely, and I enjoyed the overall premise. However, I felt more lust than love in the relationship, especially from the MMC, Harrison. He begins having lustful thoughts of Betty, the FMC very early on, and because of that their romance didn't fully hit for me.
Although this is advertised as a short story, it still felt a bit rushed and could have been slightly longer. By the time the two characters were saying "I love you", I didn't fully believe it. A lot of their relationship development seems to happen off page, which made the romance less convincing.
This book wasn't totally my vibe, but I'm grateful to have been sent the ARC and to have had the chance to give it a try!!
Tropes Include: - Single Mom - Small Town Romance - Millionaire MMC
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of And Cut: Daring Performance Productions. I didn’t realize the length before I started reading. I always get a little nervous with novellas because it is a skill to pack a meaningful punch but I genuinely thought this was done SO WELL.
There was a beautiful relationship establish between all of the characters with each other and such a fun group dynamic as well.
The spicy 🌶️ scenes were so well done. I obviously loved the focus on the FMC. The only scene I would have cut or delayed was the first one in the grocery store - I feel like that was a little rushed. Everything else could have been the same and without that scene, I would have been more quickly invested in Betty and Harrison’s Chance meeting and adorable relationship.
Honestly a great, quick read and I feel lucky to have been part of the ARC process!
And Cut is a very cute love at first sight type of novel. This book isn’t super long 141 pages so it was a pretty quick read, I did received this book as an advanced reader copy and want to leave my review to try and help the author out. Betty and Harrison have a one time run in at a grocery store, they are nothing to each other but strangers yet Harrison decides to help Betty. Flash forward a couple hours and they run into each other again as Harrison is a director for a tv show that Betty’s daughter auditioned for. We get to then see how their relationship develops over the course of filming the show. This book does have a couple spicy scenes. Thank you to the author for allowing me to be a part of your arc team and get to read this book.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my review of it. Thank you to the author for the chance to read this little romance novel.
This book is for anyone who would like a light ”snack” of a romance novel. It tells a cute little story of a single mom (not in her twenties anymore!) falling for the director of a TV series her talented daughter is cast into. Although it has to be said - he falls first.
The story gets going immediately, and the pacing is fast all the way through. Even to the point where I kinda wanted to read a bit more of the characters’ backstories in order to understand their motives better.
It’s a good vibes kinda read, not without its faults, but it did keep me entertained. I’ll give it a solid 3,5 / 4- stars for the vibes and the older FMC. ☺️
This one pulled me in quick. And Cut dives into a world that looks polished on the outside but is messy underneath and full of pressure, ambition, and moments where everything starts to crack. The tension builds in a way that keeps you locked in, and the characters? flawed, real, and a little chaotic. I liked how it plays with perception of what's real vs. what's just for show. It had me side eyeing everyone till the end.
Spanish: Este me atrapo rapido.
Rating: 4 (Currently on hold till I get to buy a physical copy as I lost my copy of the ebook on my shelf. I have read at least 3/4ths of the book before this mishap happened though, don't worry)
However, I have read enough to know that this book is very much targeted towards a specific niche. Its for me and my Harlequin pleasure.
Instant attraction is a very common trope in Harlequins. The twist with it being a second chance romance really sold the deal too. I haven't seen many books where the pairing is 'Director x actor's mother' and this was avery nice introduction.
Overall, if you enjoy second chance romances with a certain element reminiscent of Harlequins, this is for you.
Thank you to NetGalley and Victoria Liiv for providing me a free copy to review!
This was a cute, heartwarming read. Not necessarily my usual go-to but nice to get stuck in to a short, sweet romance story (especially as a dark romance reader that wants a softer romance occasionally!) I liked how fast paced it was but also wish there’d been a bit more to the plot/backstory, especially around the FMC herself and subsequently the relationship with the MMC. The spice level felt just right for this story. Definitely appreciated how besotted Harrison was with Betty. Just wanted a bit more depth overall. 3.75 ⭐️ Thank you Victoria for the opportunity to read this before the release 🩷🩷🩷
This was a cozy read. At some points, I was cringing, but it was still a good read. I think I took way too long to read this, I think I've been reading it for a week or so. It's not long at all, but I probably would've enjoyed it more if I read it in one or two sittings instead. The romance did feel like it didn't really develop and there wasn’t lots of depth in the characters and their past, but it's a short book and it showed a lot for its length so I won't cut points for that. The writing was easy to read, and I think it was more of a small pallete cleanser kind of book. And for that, I really enjoyed it. Thank you, Victoria Liiv, for the lovely ARC of this book.
This was a cute short romance on the set of making a movie! Second chance romance for a single mom just trying to focus on her daughter to become a movie star like her daughter has dreamed of. She put her own life and dreams on hold for her daughter Gail. And when she meets Harrison he falls so hard but she is so insecure because how her ex husband talked to her and bout her. She didn’t know how to feel when they were poor racking and scrapping to make it but he was a director and had money. But he let her know how beautiful and worth she was to him. He never gave up the chase for her heart!!❤️ 🎬
It’s such a great book. Short but way worth the read !!
And Cut pulls you into a world where performance and reality blur, and nothing is quite as simple as it seems.
What stood out most to me was the layered tension running through the story. There’s an underlying sense that something more is always happening beneath the surface, which keeps you engaged and curious about what’s coming next.
The characters bring that tension to life, with dynamics that feel both compelling and unpredictable at times.
For me, this lands at 4 ⭐ because it was engaging and interesting, though I found myself wanting just a bit more depth in certain moments.
Really enjoyed the opportunity to read the ARC of this book. It was exactly what it promised to be. It was short, sexy and sweet. The story itself was fun and cute (a small town romance) and the spice was great! I liked the big story itself (a tv show production) because I'm a big fan of tv shows and movies. Loved the chemistry between Harrison (MMC) and Betty (FMC). It's just so fun to see a man positively obsessed with his woman! And the banter between those two, so good! I'd definitely recommend this one as a quick spicy yet sweet romance book.
