Rough Edges: Allie's Story

Rate this book
Divorced mother, Allie Emerson, never imagined she’d be raising two teenage girls on her own. Between parenting and paying the bills, she hasn’t even thought about meeting a man. That changes once she hears local carpenter, Braden Fox, is in need of a secretary. Back in high school, Allie had done all she could to deny the sparks burning between her and Braden; but would the chemistry still be there after all this time?

Braden has heard all about what Terrance did to Allie and the girls, has been planning to stop by and see how she’s getting along, but Allie beats him to it by showing up at his shop in search of a job. Her unexpected visit reignites the old flame Braden used to torch for her; trouble is, old feelings of resentment return as well. Allie did choose Terrance over him, after all. And as much as Braden wants Allie in his life, he’s not sure he can open his heart to her again.

With this second chance at romance, will the
bumps in their relationship be too much to get over,
or will this carpenter learn to smooth out the past?

Great start to a fun new series!

I really enjoyed Ms. Krey’s Sweet Montana Bride series and was excited to hear she was coming out with a companion trilogy. We met Allie in the original series and I was looking forward to her book, which can totally stand on its own.

Allie is divorced and now the single mom to two teenage girls, each of which is handling the divorce in different ways. Things are tight and Allie decides she needs to get a part time job to help with expenses and when she hears that an old high school friend, Braden Fox, is looking for a secretary she works up the courage to go and apply for the job.

I liked Allie quite a bit, I liked her in the previous books and thought she deserved better than what she got. She was an easy character to like and to root for. She’s been through a lot, but is a tough girl and I loved how she was trying so hard to be a good mom and put her daughters first. I enjoyed her relationship with Braden quite a bit, they had great chemistry. I really loved Braden; he was an all-around great guy. I liked how he respected Allie and always treated her well and that now that she was available he wasn’t going to let this chance pass him by. I also liked that he brought out the best in her and wasn’t afraid to call her on things.

Overall, a really fun read. I read it in one sitting, couldn’t put it down. I’m really looking forward to the next two books!

I'm in love! Kimberly Krey has a magical way of weaving a tale of trials, second chances, and romance. Phew! The romance left me completely swooning.

Allie is a divorced mom. She's been given a rough hand in life, but doesn't let it get her down. She does whatever it takes to move on and make a good life for herself and her girls. It's all she can do to make ends meet and when she hears that an old friend and local carpenter may be in need of a secretary, she's there trying to get the position. Little did she know, the chemistry that once existed between them, years ago, is hotter than ever.

Braden is a never-been-married bachelor who's been burned a few too many times--by Allie. He's not interested in getting his heart trampled yet again by his long-time crush. He backed way off during Allie's marriage to his friend, but now she's free game. He's so sweet and is learning to fight for what he wants.

I'm a sucker for a second chance romance and this one was perfect for my mood. I loved Allie's daughters and fell for Braden's charms right along with Allie. "If anticipation alone could kill a person, Allie might have died in that moment." Rough Edges is a fantastic combination of anticipation and action. I can't wait for more!

Content: Moderately clean romance (talk of cheating, kissing, making out, fade to black between married couple); mild language; no violence; very mild religious elements. Clean for an older reader!

It's a good day when I get to read a new book by Kimberly Krey. Yeah, she's one of my favorites. I'm not even going to try to contain my happy dancing. When I'm in the mood for some good romance, Kimberly is my go-to gal. And, honestly, I'm always in the mood for a good romance. ;) I'm so excited!

Rough Edges kicks off the beginning of a new series by Kimberly. I like the second chances theme in this book. I liked the older characters, the added situations of older kids and divorce in the mix and how Allie had to navigate those issues. It was good stuff.

Allie and Braden share some intense chemistry. There are some steamy make out sessions (but nothing beyond that). Let's just say that I never knew kissing in a wood shop could be so, um, steamy. Sizzle, Crackle. Kim's motto is "keeping it clean without losing the steam". She really sticks to that motto. This book does contain kissing and it is steamy but it never goes farther than that. There is also a few instances of mild swearing.

I'm happy that the author decided to write Allie's story. I had wondered about her when she popped up in the other series (Sweet Montana Brides) involving her cousins. She's a character that had put up with a lot and been through a lot and is still trying to figure some things out, but is finally ready to move on in her life. There was a sweetness to the story, while also containing plenty of romantic tension.

I loved Allie's character. She's a single mom trying to raise two tween/teenager daughters who are very different and who reacted in opposite ways to their parents divorce. She has a lot of heart and some spunk that she'd forgotten about or that was lost during her marriage and the following divorce. I also loved Braden. He's a hard-working carpenter, that also has a soft artistic side, and has been sweet on Allie since high school. He has the rough and rugged cowboy look and is a gentleman and family man as well with his sister and her kids. I loved how Allie and Braden interacted and how they all interact with her girls and her family with Braden's sister and her family. It felt like they became a close-knit group and I loved the feel of it as well as this small, picturesque Montana town.

The story moved at a good pace and there were a few places where there was some tension that made things a little more intense. Both Allie and Braden have some things that they have to let go of in order to fully trust each other and there were some definite iffy spots.

I'd recommend Rough Edges to those of you who have enjoyed Krey's other books or enjoy romance in general.

Content: There is some innuendo and one implied scene at the very end, but otherwise clean.

I enjoy a great second chance story and this one delivers! Allie Emerson is divorced and raising two teenage daughters. She hears about a job opening for Braden Fox, a local carpenter. She has history with him dating back to high school but she chose his best friend, Terrance, who is now her ex-husband. She applies for the job, rekindling their relationship and things will never be the same.

I loved the chemistry between Allie and Braden! Braden is in love with Allie but has a hard time trusting her. As we learn more about their history, it's understandable. Allie is determined to make better choices this time around and she truly sees Terrance for who he is. She does have other considerations this time around, though. One of her daughters is in favor of her dating Braden and the other one isn't. Braden is insecure since Allie has run to him multiple times in the past, then always gone back to Terrance. He keeps waiting for history to repeat itself and he might make a huge mistake because of his insecurities.

There is some content that makes this more suitable for an older reader. There's talk of cheating and fade to black sex between a married couple. There are also some steamy kissing scenes, but I would definitely consider this to be clean. This is a quick, fun read. I love the setup for the rest of the series and am excited to read Logan's and Bree's stories!

I received a copy of this book to review. My opinion is 100% my own.

Second chances do happen once in a while. Allie is divorced and trying to make it on her own with her two teen daughters. She needs a little more income until she can get her jewelry business running well.

She takes a chance and goes to apply for the job as the secretary to her ex-husbands best friend. She remembers the sparks that flew between the two of them as teens and would like to get to know him again.

Braden hires Allie against his better judgement. He has had a hard time getting over her feeling for her and is not sure he wants to re-open old wounds.

This book is fun to read. I loved the Allie and Braden. It was also nice to have a few characters from her Kinmberly Krey's Sweet Montana Bride Series pop in a couple of times.

The book contains some pretty serious kissing, mild swearing, but it's pretty clean.

A divorced mother of two reconnects with her first love when she takes a job helping his carpentry business, and Rough Edges: Allie’s Story is the quietly hopeful tale of Allie Emerson finding courage, community, and a second chance at love. The novel is the first book in Kimberly Krey’s Second Chances series and is presented as a companion to the Sweet Montana Bride books. Allie is juggling teenage daughters, bills, and the messy aftermath of a painful marriage when she applies for work with Braden Fox, the boy she once loved and the man whose shop might mend more than wood. The story leans into small-town comfort, practical details (Allie becomes Braden’s secretary), and the slow repair of trust between two people who carry old hurts.

Looking inward, what remained with me after closing the book was how Krey writes ordinary resilience: Allie is neither saint nor caricature, and her parenting pressures and quiet bravery felt authentic rather than plotted. Braden’s steady competence and the town’s helpful, down-to-earth texture ground the romance so it never feels rushed; scenes of workshop banter and shared tasks build intimacy in ways that felt earned. The pacing favors emotional growth over dramatic twists, which means readers who want slow, character-driven second-chance love will be pleased, while those craving high-stakes conflict might wish for more external pressure. In short, it’s a warm, empathetic read that celebrates small victories and the messy work of trusting again. I award four stars for believable character work, sincere emotional payoff, and a comforting sense of community.

Oh this book! I had my first jaunt into Kimberley Krey's novels a week or so ago and loved it...it was actually the 3rd book in this series and I loved it so much I grabbed the first two and enjoyed my return to these characters! I think you could definitely read these books out of order because the author gives enough catch up info about the characters that I think you could jump right in and enjoy. Normally I am a very orderly reader and as you can guess by orderly, I prefer to not skip around but read series starting with book one. Anyone else like me? Well I definitely strayed from my norm but quickly rectified that! ;-)

I loved reading Allie and Braden's story. I loved Braden from Fresh Starts, he was such a great brother and so good to protect and help his sister that I couldn't wait to learn more about him as a character. Allie was only briefly mentioned so I went into this one knowing only that she was previously married and divorced with two teenage daughters.

I really enjoy the characters that have been in this series. All of them have something they are healing from and working towards fixing. They all have to move at their own pace and yet they also have to consider the others around them who are also trying to heal.

A lot of this book dealt with Allie and her daughters learning how to overcome the changes that have come into their lives due to a divorce. Allie has changed from the dynamics of her marriage and has to figure out who she is...do part of her old enjoyments still appeal to her or is she happy with all that she has pushed aside and suppressed?

Braden has loved Allie for over 20 years and has been unable to move forward because he hasn't found someone who inspires him and is such a perfect match as Allie. Her husband was Braden's best friend but due to his feelings towards Allie he has stayed away. He has let anger and resentment build up due to the fact that he tried years ago in high school to show her his love yet she chose another and now has to pick up the pieces from her choices.

Allie and Braden slowly work through the hurt and anger and come to realize they both had many reasons why they made certain choices and many misconceptions clouding their judgements. They are a great couple and I couldn't help cheering them on through their ups and downs.

There were some steamy kisses, a few mild innuendos and a fade to black married couple scene. Also a couple mild swear words randomly throughout. All in all a clean read but I think due to the content a book geared towards mature readers.

I've already started and finished the next book in the series (long car ride heading on vacation) and loved it! It features Allie's brother Logan and his wife and is another story about healing and choices.

I bought a copy from Amazon (only $0.99 right now but not sure how long that will last).

Happy Reading!!!

Can I just say YUMMY. This book was such a good, sweet, clean romance. I love Krey's writing. She makes such awesome swoon worthy men. There is something about a cowboy, and a carpenter to boot that is just, well, yummy :).

Allie is divorced and looking for a new job. When Allie finds out that long time friend Braden is in search of a secretary. Braden wasn't aware he was looking for a secretary though. Braden's sister told Allie's mom that he needed a secretary. It's the beginning of an awesome love story.

Braden and Allie had sparks back in high school, but one of Allie's friends had called "dibs" on Braden. First off, I think this is the dumbest thing ever. I thought it when I was in High School and now that I have and had a High Schooler I still think it is the dumbest thing ever. You cannot call "dibs" on a persons feelings. You just can't. Okay, enough of the personal pet peeve :).

The chemistry between Braden and Allie was automatic. I loved that they had been friends for years, but that he kept his distance from her while she was married. Not because he wanted to, but because it tortured him to see her with his "best" friend, or any other man for that matter. He loved her in High School, and now that she was back in his life, he has realized he never quit.

I am not an insta love fan, but this was not insta love. They had known each other for years. They took their relationship slowly, even though feelings from old were still there.

Allie's ex-husband is a jerk. Thankfully he was only in the book for a very short period of time, other than memories. I don't think I could have handled more of him.

I love how the Allie's girls were part of the story. Sometimes in romance novels when people have kids they get forgotten when the love story develops. I am so glad this one did not do that. In fact Braden's interest in the girls made him even more swoon worthy to me :).

If you are looking for a sweet, clean, romance this is just the right book for you. When I was almost done my daughter came out and wanted to watch a movie. I told her I already was. She just looked at me funny. This story came alive for me, because Krey's descriptions of Allie and Braden's encounters were just that good! Mmm...mmm...good :).

Source: I bought this book for myself. I was not compensated in any way for this review. These are my own PERSONAL thoughts on the book.

I've read 2 books by Kimberly Krey and have really, REALLY liked both. So I'm not sure why I've only read 2!?! This book was great. The main characters weren't super young. Allie is a divorced mom of 2 teenage girls. That was awesome to me, because that means she was closer to my age- and you don't read a lot of books with middle-aged characters. Braden Fox was hot with "old-fashioned" morals- which made him hotter. It was just a sweet love story, but not boring because there was conflict and each character struggled with their own insecurities. All the characters in the book were just so dang likeable!! I devoured this book in less than a day and I'm looking forward to reading more by Krey.

Oh- and right now there's a giveaway for this book that ends April 14, 2015: https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sh...

Anyone looking for a wonderfully sweet, clean romance that focusses on just that - the romance - this is what you’re looking for! Adding to the plusses is the fact I LOVE second chance romances.

There isn’t a lot of angst, horrible conflict or any other trope that usually keep couples apart. This really is just two people trying to wade through the challenges of divorce, children and a love that was left behind. A very lovely escape.

Wow! What a great story. Love, given a second chance, the storyline is done frequently, but I have to say Kimberley nailed it. This is a contemporary love story done without all the explicit sex and language. She has such a way with words though that the scenes are still "smokin."
Could Alli and Braden be any cuter. They were both hesitant in starting a relationship at the beginning, definitely understandable, but when they did their chemistry was amazing.
I have to say I loved the inclusion of the children. Their thoughts are so important in a storyline like this and so many authors skip that. Kimberley did not and their input was amazing. It added so much depth to the story. I just loved Jillian, what a sweetheart. I felt bad for Paige, she came off rude and insensitive, but she had so much going on inside her, and that was her way of dealing with it. I loved that Braden was able to interact with her, almost in a humorous sense. It was just what she needed.
I highly recommend reading this book and I am looking forward to reading Logan's story.

Rough Edges is a astonishingly breath taking journey of two broken and hurting hearts rediscovering the transforming power and the limitless promise of a love that even time itself could not erase or diminish. The tremendous daring and courage that it took for these two souls to step out and risk the most vulnerable and hidden parts of themselves display the depth of their longing and the intensity to fill the emptiness in their heart. The heart knows what it wants and no imitation no matter how pretty or genuine it may seem will ever be acceptable. Our souls long for honest passion and undeniable devotion in order to bring true fulfillment and nurture joy into our lives without which each step we take and each breath we breathe are weighed down with an insurmountable burden that only true love can lift.

Allie Emerson has watched her life slowly crumble before her eyes. Years of pain and disappointment have brought her emptiness, divorce, and a family struggling to find some stability in the aftermath of the storm left by her ex-husband Terrance. She is desperately trying to hold not only herself together but also her two teenage daughters who are grappling just as hard to make sense of the madness that is their life. Not wanting to lose herself any further, Allie takes a step out of her comfort zone and dares to go in search of the faintest possibility of love. It is better to have tried and failed then to wonder what if for the rest of her life, so she holds her breath and takes the dangerous dive back into the life of Braden Fox. Braden is a simple man who likes his uncomplicated life. He isn’t looking for love, but when Allie comes back into his life, she makes him question what he really wants. Can he really risk his heart to the one woman who shattered it? Can Allie truly bring love back into her life without risking any additional hurt to her already broken family?

I can’t imagine how hard life would be to live a day in Allie’s shoes. She is a tremendous character who puts her whole heart into taking care of her two girls. Knowing the pain she carries from the divorce, she tries all she can to stay sensitive and loving towards her girls always trying to unite them as a family. She faces challenges in reaching out and encouraging both of her daughters, but she is determined to do everything she can to show both Jillian and Paige just how much she loves them. When Braden comes back into her life, he brings with him more than just an intoxicating and passionate love for Allie. He also brings a stunningly simple yet genuine love that encourages Paige’s artistry, compliments Jillian’s sensitivity, and highlights Allie’s beautiful heart. Braden is an equally incredible character who struggles with his past in order to figure out how to move forward into a future with Allie and her girls. More than anything he knows he doesn’t want to lose Allie again, but he knows that it is dependent upon whether or not her girls can accept him. He struggles with knowing that he has to lay his heart on the line despite what he has to lose but also hopeful for what he has to gain if things work out.

Kimberly Krey never fails to truly amaze and captivate my heart with each of her exquisite stories. Each one of them has its own magnificent heart and soul whose light infuses into my life unlocking much needed encouragement and a deep appreciation for the precious gifts in my life. She has done it yet again with this heart stopping journey of a second change at a once in a lifetime love. What a powerful and life changing blessing that was showered upon those who assumed they would never have anything as precious and magnificent as a love like this! Don’t miss out on this sweetly passionate story that is sure to lift your spirit and lessen the ache in your heart.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. In this book we meet Allie and Braden this is a book that is a companion to the Sweet Montana series but if you have not read this series not to worry this book can be read without them.

Allie is now divorced from her cheating husband and is looking to start something new in her life. She has heard from her mom and Braden's sister Bree that he is looking for a secretary for his business. Allie has her own business but because it is new she knows she needs a little something more until it is up and going on its own. Also she remembers Braden from high school as the one that got away.

Braden also remembers Allie from high school and when he first sees her all those old feelings he thought were gone come rushing back. He isn't sure if he wants Allie around but he knows he can't give up this chance to be with her once and for all. Braden isn't one of those rush in and overwhelm the girl he likes to take is time build thing over time and make something lasting.

Both Braden and Allie have some demons to overcome from their past. What they both don't know if that some of them are demons that they need to fight together to be able to move forward with a future. This is a beautiful story of love, trust, and realizing you can't change the past only determine what you want for your future and how much you will fight for it. It is an amazing story that I would recommend to anyone.

When I selected Rough Edges as my next reading project, I reviewed my reading history with this author. I found I had awarded an average of about four-stars with my reviews for the six books I had read, correlating reasonably well with the Amazon customer reviews for this work, so I downloaded the novel from Kindle Unlimited.

Surprisingly, it did not take long for me to be blown away with what I was reading. I couldn’t put my iPad down. This story came alive for me as happens all too infrequently. A story’s believability factor is critical to me, and, in this case, it was through the roof. There was an uncommon depth to every character, except for Terrance, Allie’s ex-husband, who is a shallow and empty vessel.

The chemistry between Allie and Braden was in full bloom, even as they each struggled to be true to their values. I was impressed that Allie and Braden had the fortitude to forgo the pull for physical intimacy until after taking their marital vows. Seldom have I read a work that projected such high family values as was described here.

Additionally, I did not detect a single editorial error, a feat all too many authors fail to achieve. Very seldom have I read a novel where I wished I could award six-stars. But, since I cannot, I assign five-stars instead.

Rough edges by Kimberly Krey was such a cute story. I just kept on wanting to turn the page to see what was going to happen. I really enjoy Kimberly Krey as an author. I think she creates a great story and gives is a little edge to it that makes you want to keep on reading. She always has amazing chemistry between the two main characters. I really like that she writes passionately but not graphically. She gives you that great kiss but doesn’t need to push the envelope (thank you I appreciate that).
I really liked Allie in this story. She was strong and overcame a not great marriage. She is trying her best to be a good mom, but that is hard to do when you are doing it alone. But she just is doing what she can do. Braden was a good character too. The only thing that I found annoying about him is that he was so hurt and upset with Allie for things in the past that she didn’t have any clue about.
This was such a fun book to read. I enjoyed it a lot. Kimberly Krey did it again! Highly recommend her other books as well.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!

This story was a great, romantic, clean yet passionate read. As all the other books by Miss Krey I loved every word.
This is the start of a new series, yet we get to go back and see a few of the characters from her previous Sweet Montana Bride series.
Allie and Braden have been friends for a very long time. Allie ended up marrying Braden’s best friend Terrance, who left her with 2 daughters. Now she has to pick up her life, and gets a job as Braden’s secretary. Immediately she is reminded of all the attraction she once had for Braden, and we get to slowly but steadily hear the full story of their history.
Allie and Braden are great together. He is a great influence on her, as a person and mother.
This book has great romance, and enough steam to keep you entertained, without there being anything inappropriate. I have not often read books by authors who are able to write such a captivating story with such amount of romance and sizzle and yet keep it 100% clean. This will definitely be a keeper and I look forward to the next book in this series!

I enjoyed reading Allie and Braden's story! It was a romantic fiction, somewhat steamy at times with the kissing, but still clean.

After Allie's divorce she goes to see an old school friend Braden, about an office job as his wood shop. Carpenter Braden has always had feelings for Allie but pushed those feelings aside when his friend Terrance married her. Now Allie is divorced with 2 teenage girls, asking for his help. Braden helps her with a job, along with her struggles with her youngest daughter. He also suggests that making lists and controlling everything for her isn't the best answer. I saw some of myself in Allie. It's hard being a parent-you try to protect and love them as best you know how, and sometimes having an outside perspective can help. The ex Terrance suddenly shows back up and Allie has to decide what's best for her and her girls.

This book was book 1 in the Sweet Montana Brides series.

I am so glad to have been given a complementary copy of this book by Inspired Kathy in exchange for my honest review. I enjoyed Kimberly Krey's Sweet Montana Bride Series so much that I knew I would like Rough Edges too.

Allie is newly divorced and wants a fresh start to her life. She wants a job to add to the income from her own business so when her mother tells her that Braden needs a secretary for his wood shop, she applies for the position. It was hard for her to approach Braden for a job because she crushed on him in high school but let him get away and never forgot about him.

When she applies for the position Braden tells her he doesn't need a secretary so she walks away. Braden regrets it immediately because he remembers the feelings he had and, still has, for Allie and doesn't want to mess up the chance to get to know her again. The next day Braden goes to Allie's house and hires her as his secretary, hoping he can handle seeing her every day.

I liked the second chance at love theme to Rough Edges and the way the author clearly shows how much they want each other but don't let sex take over. It was nice to see the characters were a bit older and more mature than the twenty-somethings so often in novels. The book is a great read and definitely captures the reader in the story line, but that wouldn't work if she didn't have good characters. The character development in this story is quite in depth. You get to know a great deal about the main characters, their lives, and their histories. Allie's teenage daughters added another dimension to the story with their diverse personalities. Jilian was always so thoughtful and kind to everyone that nobody noticed the difficult time she was having with her parent's divorce. Paige was a very difficult girl to like because she rarely said anything nice to anyone. Her mother's coddling just made her attitude worse but Braden saw the real Paige and broke through the barriers she put up.

I appreciated the fact that the characters had a history with one another. They weren’t strangers who ran into each other on the street one day and magically fell head over heels in love, but rather had gone to high school together. This intriguing story line is brought together by Kimberly’s brilliant skills as a storyteller.

I absolutely love this author. I don’t think that I’ve read a single piece of her work that hasn’t held me captive. This story definitely holds up to that standard.

Rough Edges (Second Chances #1) is the first book I have read by Kimberly Krey. It is a companion to the Sweet Montana Bride series (which, as indicated, I have not read). So although Allie & Braden may already have a history (or at least a previous notable mention in print), the only one I was aware of prior to reading this book was the upfront book description information. Since I’m a sucker for second chance at a happily ever after type romance this seemed like the perfect read for me.

I was given this ebook in exchange for an honest review and here it is:
 3.75 hearts rating
This is a clean, modern romance about a single mother of two teenage girls and her second chance at love with a man that she has known for many years. It had me turning pages past my bedtime which is why I gave this book 3.75 hearts. I look forward to reading more by Kimberly Krey in the near future.

I enjoyed reading this book. It has a quick, easy flow making it very easy to keep turning those pages. I was specifically intrigued about the cast of characters as a whole, knowing that many their stories are told in other (and upcoming) novels in this Second Chance series or its companion series. For instance, while I liked this story very much, it really piqued my interest in reading the story of Braden’s sister Bree and will look forward to reading Fresh Starts.

As for this book, Rough Edges, Allie’s and Braden’s love-story was very much the type of read I enjoy however Allie just didn’t come to life for me. I’m not sure if it was because of her endless lists or how her passion for her jewellery business was glossed over without much detail but it seemed to me that there was more attention focused on the artistic talents and projects of Paige and Braden. Now don’t get me wrong, the story had my attention and it had a life of it’s own - which is why it was easy to read - it’s just that ordinarily I find myself much more invested in a main character, and I did like Allie, I just cared a bit more and became more involved in the other characters which was a curious experience for me.

P.S. I simply cannot leave it unsaid that Terrance (Allie’s ex-husband) is indeed a jerk.

A beautiful single mother of two, Allie Emerson, is feeling down and lost about what she should do to pick up the pieces of her life and is wondering how she should move forward to make ends meet to support herself and her two teenage daughters. The rumor mill has it that handsome, Braden Fox, needs help organizing his carpentry business, and as luck would have it, he’s single as well. Allie is nervous about making a good impression and would really like to make a go at this job, even if there is some history with Braden. Since high school, Braden has secretly loved Allie and was crushed when she married his friend, Terrance. Many times Allie had turned to him for help and guidance, but could never let go of her relationship with Terrance. Now Braden has his chance to make a go of it with this beautiful woman, a caring woman who has always had a place in his heart, but will the past they share help bring them together or will it break them?

This story touched my heart and I felt like I could relate on so many levels. At one point in my life I was a single mother of two, and I had my own Braden that swept my children and me off our feet. There were so many traits that I saw in Braden that mirrored my own husband, that made me realize that Kimberly Krey has an amazing talent of writing stories that somewhere along the way, they lose the title of “fiction” and become so realistic that you feel as if you are reading someone’s journal. Her characters are so real and come alive, you cheer for them, you laugh with them, and you get angry with those that want to hurt them-no names mentioned, Terrance! The supporting characters in her books have stories of their own, and you are always given a chance to get to know them. I can’t wait to find out what happens with Bree, and I’ll patiently (most likely impatiently) wait until I get my hands on her story.

I received this ebook free in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I read the blurb before starting it so I had an idea of where the story was going. I don't usually read blurbs as they sometimes have spoilers which ruins books for me.
So this story starts with Allie, newly divorced from a jerk of a man who is the father to both her daughters. Allie and Terrance had been childhood sweethearts and ended up married. Terrance wasn't a good husband but he was a good father which is why Allie tried to make things work. That is until he cheated on her and she filed for divorce. They're two daughters couldn't be more different. jilly is a happy 16 year old who just wants her mum happy, Paige on the other hand is struggling with her parents divorce and is giving her mum a hard time.
Allie is struggling financially and hears of a job at Braden Fox's work shop. Braden happens to be Terrance's best friend from school who always held a torch for Allie. They kissed once as teenagers but then after Allie and Terrance married, their friendship drifted until neither saw Braden regularly. Allie did call to see Braden on a few occasions when she needed support she didn't get from her husband. To cut a long story short Allie takes a job at Braden's workshop. They fall for each other again and live happily ever after - eventually.

The book is a clean romance. I'm not used to clean and I'm not sure I find it realistic in this day and age. How many people nowadays get married without already being intimate with each other? I found the back story believable but I found the reactions Allie and Braden had to contain situations immature and unrealistic. It was quite predictable but it was easy to read and the writing was good. There were no formatting or grammatical errors that I noticed. All things considered 2.5-3 stars

I was given this book for an honest review. I wasn't too sure about this book at first because it started out a little slow for me, but Kimberly Krey drew me into Allie and Braden's story when the characters finally went for what they have always wanted.
Allie is a divorced single mom with 2 teenage daughters. Her ex husband Terrance left their family ccompletely. Allie attempts to get a secretary position with Terrance's best friend Braden. Braden is Allie's childhood crush and her ex husband's best friend. When she sees Braden again she doesn't expect her old feelings to return. These feelings returning help Allie learn to move on from her failed marriage. She learns to let herself love again with Braden's help.
Braden Fox took over his father's custom woodshop business when his father passed away. Allie is the love of his life and his best friend's wife. He knows he shouldn't have such strong feelings for Allie, but she ruined him for all women when they were teenagers. When Allie comes back into his life she brings those feelings back full force. After realizing what his supposed best friend did to Allie and their girls he makes a promise to himself to always protect Allie and her girls. Allie helps Braden realize that it's okay to love her and her girls. He is more of a man than his former friend.
I love how the further the story progressed the more you saw both Allie and Braden grow as individuals and as a couple. They both learn a lot from each other. I normally read books with lots of sex, but this one showed their passion for one another without the sex. This book shows you that true love never goes away no matter what life throws your way. I'm so happy that this book redeemed itself. This book was definitely a 5 star review that I plan on recommending to my friends and family!!!

Note: I received a free copy for an honest review.

Well, this is the 4th book that I've read by this author. I've read her Sweet Montana Bride series and now this one. Personally, I think this is her best yet. She really exhibits growth in her writing skills. This offering was less "formulaic" in the plot line.

I won't repeat the plot since that's given in the book description, but I believed the characters. They came across as real people. Allie is struggling to move on after a divorce and Braden is working through his own issues. As they each get to know each other again, they slowly help each other overcome their problems.

I liked how the author gave them time to develop a relationship and real love for each other. I liked the honesty between them. Yes, there was angst, but it wasn't caused by telling some lie or deception. That gets so old in other books! This was a relief that they each acted like adults. Even the plot twist near the end came across as realistic. I can see how the character might react like that, and once given a chance to cool down and think it through, have a reality check moment. Even the secondary characters were developed enough to get to know them and get excited that their book is coming in the future.

Grammar and editing wise - I did find a handful of random mistakes, but not enough to distract. I marked 5 spots that jumped out at me.
Romance and language were both clean. There was kissing.

Summary:
Grammar / Editing - A-
Romance / Language - PG
