The girl of his dreams has always been married to someone else… Then suddenly, she isn’t. Now he has four days to make her his — or lose her for good.
Seth loved Billie all through graduate school, but she was married to her high school sweetheart. Years later, when the two meet at a conference, she is newly single and their chemistry is explosive. As the conference comes to a close, Billie expects them to go their separate ways, but Seth is certain they belong together and must change her mind before the week ends.
Fiona Embers writes angsty, spicy romance about heroines who are too much and heroes who can't get enough. She lives with her family in the American Midwest and drives in the snow like a champ. Fiona also writes dark speculative fiction (horror, sci-fi, and fantasy) under the pen name Maura Yzmore.
⭐️I was given this early copy in exchange for a review. This review is my own opinion!⭐️
This was a spicy novella. Short, sweet, and to the point. The characters were the focal point of this story, so there wasnt a lot of world building. (which wasn't necessary for the plot). The story flowed smoothly, the character development was organic and on point, and it lacked nothing. I never once felt like there were gaps that I needed to fill. Fiona Embers knows how to write a novella and she knows how to make it make an impact. This was spicy, fierce and feral. Did I mention it was hot 🔥? It was perfect!
Thank you to Fiona Embers for the e-arc of Rings True in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
This was a quick, easy read about two people, Seth and Billie. It very much gave off right person, wrong time vibes, with how Billie was married to her childhood sweetheart, but harboured feelings for Seth, who was her college friend and lab partner. However, they lost touch over the years, and at a conference, years later are reunited, in which Seth learns that Billie is recently divorced and now single.
Seeing this as his opportunity to go after the woman he loves, Seth is a man determined to make sure Billie is his. It was short, spicy and fun, I just wished that it was a bit longer.
I enjoyed this short read and it was spicy, this book 1 of the Chemically Bonded Series!

Oh how I love a man who isn't afraid to beg for the woman he loves! He was so patient allowing her to explore herself. I once had a ex husband similar to hers and I felt her fears and insecurities. This book is a must read if you like spice with all the honest feels and want to just spend a short time reading.
I received this novella as an ARC and was hooked from page one. I loved the back story and how two old friends found their way back together again. I just wish it was longer!
This book was very short and spicy! It very much gives right person, wrong time. This book is told in dual POV but very easy to follow along. Billie and Seth have known each other but Billie married her high school sweetheart. It always turns around when Seth finds out that Billie is divorced so he can pursue his love for her.
The characters are great, and a little nerdy (which I love.) Embers brings us a second chance romance that feels truly authentic.
But what I really enjoyed was how Seth let Billie set the pace, both physically and romantically. It's very rare that romance novels take consent and a woman's comfort and make it sexy. We need more of this!
What a fun splash of spice. It is what happens when you have been pining for each other for years. 🔥 It is hard to ignore the attraction these two have for each other. It is perfect if your looking for a quick read for the love month.
A short and sweet love story, showcasing the reunion of two scientists who never thought the other could love them. While this novella was short enough that some of the mental struggles were not discussed in depth, the brief representation of abusive/controlling relationships and the trauma they leave was done so well and I enjoyed every minute of the book. The sexy scenes were both funny and hot, and again showed that one can be hurt and still find love. Loved every page!
This was a super cute, super quick read with a surprising amount of spice for 59 pages. Seth is adorable, has been pining for years, and it's very swoon watching him take his shot. Billie has clearly not been treated right in the past and it takes her a bit to warm up to the way Seth already loves her. But the chemistry is there from the start. If you've got time to watch a movie, this book, in my opinion is a much better use of your time. All the feels and heat, in a snack sized portion.
Thanks to the author for the eARC of this book, review is my own.
Novellas are tricky because you have to do a lot of heavy lifting in a short amount of time. Billie and Seth were perfect because they already had backstory (grad school friends) and Seth always secretly pined for her (she was married). They reconnect at a conference and Seth discovers Billie is divorced and all bets are off! A little insta-love on page but obvious he had been yearning for years and it was all pent up. Spice ratings are tough too since it's short so I'll give a 3🌶️ based on the amount of spice taking up 59 pages!
A very quick, read it in one go novella. Although a short read, it’s packed full of spice and heat. There are some seriously intense stalker vibes coming from the main character Seth. He has pined for Billie for years and is finally grabbing his chance to make her his. The pair have a brief, intense affair at a work conference which Seth hopes is only the beginning of their future.
Although a short story, I still felt we got to know both characters and there was enough background given to make their relationship progression feel genuine. An enjoyable, satisfying read.
Quick spicy read about Seth and Billie. Former grad school classmates, Seth has long harboured feelings for Billie but she was married to her high school boyfriend Doug. They meet four years later at a conference...but Billie is no longer wearing Doug's ring. Is Seth ready to make his move and is Billie receptive given she has just ended her marriage? Spicy but with a storyline that is easy to follow. I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
A lovely short story of friends who wish they were more but unfortunately one is married.
Seth can't stay around Billie while she's married so moves away. They meet up 4 years later at a work conference and have catch up drinks with all their old college friends.
Seth notices that Billie isn't wearing her wedding ring and decides to go for it!
A very to the point, spicy 🥵 novella about second chance love. This dual POV will have you wanting another serving, despite being full of all the details wrapped up nicely in this short read. We get to see Billie and Seth’s backstory, current situation, and what happens in the future all within 59 pages. It’s rare that an author can provide so many details in such a short amount of time, but I felt satisfied with what Fiona gave us. Thank you happily booked arc & Fiona for this story.
This was short, sweet, spicy, and I LOVED it! One of my favorite things about this author, is how she writes strong female characters typically with jobs in a STEM field. So I was absolutely thrilled when I got the opportunity to read her newest book. I loved the friends to lovers trope. I love that it was a second chance at love as well! Told in Dual POVs, this was an amazing book that definitely packed a punch. I cannot wait to read the full novella series!
Reviewed by Dee on behalf of the Plot Thickens Book Club. Title: Rings True (Chemically Bonded Series) Author: Fiona Embers Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Let me tell you something I fell in love with this short novella. It started off slow but boy did it get hot spicy and everything right. Seth the MMC went to grad school with his set group of friends Edie, Javi, Billie. They were thick as thieves but Seth could not deal with the fact that Billie was married to douchebag doug. He fell head over heels for her and after grad school he kind of lost contact for 4 years because he could not see her having a happy life with somebody that treated her like absolute trash. Now four years to the present. They all met back up at a conference where they were all speaking in their pharma industry conference. That is when Seth figured out that Billie our FMC took off her wedding ring and had been divorced for months now. He seen that as his opportunity of oh my God it's my chance I'm going to take it. Boy did he take it. Seth showed Billy everything that she was missing and had been missing the whole time. It was amazing actually.Billie had a lot of self-esteem issues because she was the nerd in high school so Doug made her feel like he was the best billie could do. That really stunted her until she finally seen Doug's true side and left. So when she got with Seth she was hesitant but he broke all of the bonds and bad thinking she was thinking and just blew her mind every which way was straight. I really love how the book ended I loved how they're engaged and life is going great. Yet what got me the most excited is when the author put that the chemically bonded series isn't stopping we are going to get Edie and javi's stories as well. This is the first time I've ever read anything by Fiona Embers and this will not be the last. I am super excited to see how this series continues and where it goes because I am super pumped I really love this book.
From the very first page, you can immediately feel the sparks slowly rekindle between Seth and Billie...
Seth is definitely the total package...smart, sexy, and a complete sweetheart...the fact that his feelings never changed in the years he had distanced himself from Billie all while she was married to a man whom he knew didn't deserve her along with jumping through hoops just to show her what it feels like to finally be loved and cherished by a real man...*SWOON*!! 😍
Though with her own heart still mending from a bitter divorce and the fear of getting hurt again, Billie is a bit hesitant...letting the past hold her back from her true feelings and desires...but when Seth offers to uproot his own life just to be with her and to prove his love to her, will it be an offer she can't refuse...?
Absolutely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+, I definitely recommend!! Be sure to check out "Rings True" by Fiona Embers!!
A terrific short spicy read with some touching moments between Seth & Billie.
Billie for got married young to her high school boyfriend. Then she starts her graduate degree and growing, learning about herself only to be emotionally controlled by her husband.
Seth always has feelings for Billie. She was it for him, he knew it. But her being married caused that train to just pause on the rails.
Their years of friendship and mutual pining have formed a solid foundation for their new relationship. I loved how Seth made it his mission to show Billie how she should have been treated all along. He listened to her, asked questions and slowed down when things got too intense or she felt overwhelmed. He was more of a partner to her in first night together than her husband did their entire marriage.
This is a second chance romance novella between Seth and Billie. The two were a part of the same friend group in grad school, and while Seth has always had feelings for Billie, Billie was in a relationship with her high school sweetheart.
After leaving the friend group to spare himself heartache, the group reconnects at a work conference years later. First thing he notices? No ring. That instant has Seth doing whatever it takes to get Billie to be his. Were the feelings mutual all those year ago or were they all in his head?
Although a quick read, I loved this novella! The two characters are very dynamic, revealing their pasts while exploring the future. Can’t wait to read more works by Fiona Embers!
ARC Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy read that grabbed my full attention from the second page. Seth was giving of hopeless romantic vibes towards Billie until she finally noticed him and how long he had been in love with her. This book showcased love and full understanding of someone you love and willinglyness to fully change your life for a change at love. I can't wait to read more. Loved it!!
This book was very short and a right person wrong time story.
Billie was married when Seth met her and now years later she is divorced. Will he make a move? Will she be open to a new relationship so soon after a divorce?
I wish this book was longer especially the ending. I would have loved to see the reaction of their friends.
Overall I did like this book but being so short it did feel a little rushed especially since they hadn’t talked in like 4 years. I read this book as an arc.
Rings True by Fiona Embers is a steamy novella about Billie and Seth.
When they knew each other previously, Billie was married, which meant she was untouchable. But now she is single again, and Seth is not going to miss his chance to make the move that he couldn’t make before.
I enjoyed this novella. Billie and Seth seemed like a good match for one another and I couldn’t help but root for them. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the Chemically Bonded series.
This was a cute and spicy second chance romance. I actually felt it was more on the realistic side for a romance, which is different but interesting. I do like how the love bombing part was handled it definitely gave we are mature adult vibes since these characters are older. I definitely recommend if you’re looking for a quick read.
I really loved this novella. Main character Seth has been in love with Billie forever but she was previously married. Now he sees her again after several years and she is single and he sees a chance to make her his. This is a great friends to lovers, second chance romance. I definitely recommend it.
