Edit: I couldn’t rate at the initial review because it hadn’t been released. Which is ridiculous, because I bought the audio book of this for my own money mid August. It was NOT money well spent.
My negativity was exacerbated by the fact that start was actually quite promising. Otherwise I could have happily abandoned it. By approximately the middle of the book I was done and zero things happened after that anyway, the plot was just moving in circles. There were only endless repetitions. The conclusion was ridiculously far fetched and there was no twist. At least none that can be discerned by any avid readers of thriller/mystery/horror genres.
Two sisters, Hallie and Gertie, travel to Mount Mercy at the behest of their recently dead mother. They are looking for the remains of their brother Pete. Hallie was looking for him three years ago as well, which ended disastrously. We are of course given regular flashbacks, as well as hints on why the relationship between the sisters is so strained. By the end, I hated both of them and I wish the monster had been real and that they had been slowly ripped to pieces. THAT would have been a satisfying end.
A further point of contention is the lack of setting. I did not feel the mountain, woods, isolation or anything. Isn't that some of the point when you're writing a book about surviving difficult conditions?
End of rant. Do NOT waste time or money on this book. It's an annoying slog.

I'm new to this author, but with that cover and intriguing premise, I couldn't resist diving in! The pacing was a bit slow for me, which is common in atmospheric survival thrillers.
The story unfolds through multiple perspectives, primarily from Hallie and Gertie, as well as an unorthodox timeline that deepens our understanding of the narrative. Hallie and Gertie are two sisters who made a promise to their dying mother to find their brother, Pete, who went missing on Mount Mercy. As they trace his movements through his emails and journal, they stumble upon a community that resembles a cult, living off the grid. The deeper they dig, the more unsettling the community and its strange rituals become. When Gertie suddenly goes missing, Hallie must step up and hold onto hope.
Initially, I found their sibling relationship a bit challenging to connect with due to the resentment and lack of understanding between them. While I appreciated their commitment to the journey their mother entrusted to them, the ride certainly had its bumps. Some of their behavior struck me as childish, which made it hard for me to fully engage with them. Growing up with three brothers, I can’t quite relate to the sisterly drama, as boys typically brought fewer problems in my household.
The atmosphere and vivid descriptions of Mount Mercy were superbly crafted; I could almost feel the darkness seeping into my bones! There was a persistent presence that didn’t quite make sense until Hallie set off to find Gertie, at which point everything started to click regarding the commune and its bizarre rituals. The conclusion wrapped up nicely, especially given how detailed the narrative was—it arrived quickly compared to the rest of the book, but it served as a fitting end to such a lengthy story.
This read is perfect for anyone who enjoys heart-pounding survival thrillers laced with suspense and eerie horror elements in an atmospheric setting. If you're okay with a stalking entity that later becomes clear, complicated sibling dynamics, and the secrets people can keep from each other, then I think this book will appeal to many readers. It’s got a bit of everything: a mysterious community, an unknown entity, political intrigue within the commune, and family drama. If that doesn't catch your attention, I'm not sure what will! I highly recommend giving it a try. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to check in with my brother to make sure he's safe on his travels! Ha!

Visiting the Tasmanian wilderness through the pages of this book from the comfort of NSW was far more appealing than actually being there in the middle of winter.
The setting was easily my favourite part of Find Me. Mount Mercy felt cold, isolated and genuinely unsettling, and Holly Craig did such a fantastic job bringing the mountain to life that it almost became a character in its own right. There was a constant feeling that something wasn’t quite right, and I loved the atmosphere she created throughout the book.
This was also such an easy read. Holly Craig has one of those writing styles where you sit down intending to read a chapter or two and suddenly realise you’ve knocked over 100 pages without even noticing. I flew through this one.
The story follows sisters Hallie and Gertie as they return to Mount Mercy three years after their brother Pete disappeared. While I was invested in finding out what happened to Pete, I also really enjoyed following Hallie and Gertie. There’s a lot of history between them, and I thought their relationship added plenty of emotional weight to the story.
What I wasn’t expecting was where the mystery eventually went. This isn’t an overly twisty thriller, but I definitely didn’t predict the explanation behind what was really happening on the mountain. The deeper I got into the story, the more curious I became, and I ended up finding the direction Holly Craig took far more interesting than I expected.
By the end, I was left very glad I’d picked this one up. A wilderness thriller, a missing person mystery and a setting that I won’t be forgetting any time soon made this a very solid 4⭐️ read for me.

Oh I so wanted to love this.
I listened to the audio version and it was so gripping. I wanted to keep listening, especially during the second half.
However I recently went to a talk of the Authors and she really did herself a disservice! She hyped the book sooo much saying it’s an amazing twist, so many people are saying it’s the best twist and the best bit is it’s one twist and you might think that’s it and then bam another twist….. I was waiting for the second twist.
The twist didn’t astound me at all..
And what was worse?
She complained about ‘lazy writers’ who have a killer who you never really meet and they just plonk it in there…. That’s exactly this… how were we suppose to guess the killer when you never actually introduced them..?
Plus so many things are unresolved! I was finishing it going ‘what about Pete? What about George - surely there is more there?
Disappointed but had to give 3 stars because 90% of the book hooked me. But hate an anticlimactic ending.

For the author to be an English teacher is concerning.
An English teacher should know the difference between so-and-so and me and so-and-so and I that's all I'm saying.
There's a LOT of unnecessary repetition going on in this story. So much so that I think it might have been better as a novella or a short story.
Because the actual STORY isn't that long or that deep.
The thing is, the beginning of this story was pretty good. Engaging, the mystery was cool, I loved the setup.
2 sisters with a complicated relationship agree to work together to find their missing brother Pete's body on Mount Mercy at the behest of their recently deceased mother.
Pete was the outdoorsy sort, a blogger. He's been missing for 2 years, in a place where legend says the mountain eats people.
Hallie's idea is to set out to find this mysterious commune who lives at the base of the mountain, the last known site of their brother.
I think this is probably my favorite part of the book - upto and until we get into the commune itself. Because the people in the commune are freakin' creepy. It's everything a good thriller needs. Half the people are missing, the commune's basically a ghost town, and the few who are left are sketchy and unfriendly - sign me up.
There's a lot of mystery surrounding the commune, things that don't make sense and characters that are evasive. I was living for it.
Unfortunately, Hallie and Gertie dragged this book down for me. Their constant bickering back and forth over the SAME shit just made me roll my eyes. We're teased for most of the book about why these two women hate each other and why they're estranged. And the way it's gone on about, you're expecting something unholy.
It wasn't. It was an AITA Reddit post.
And there's SO much leadup that by the time it IS revealed, we're all going "yeah, duh, we figured it out half a book ago".
I think this one had a lot of potential - but the characters we're following are so unlikeable I quit caring about anything going on around them. The middle of the book also drags, after they find the commune because it sort of turns into a melodrama. We lose the hunt and the mystery of what's out there sort of gets lost in between all the cat fights going on between Hallie and Gertie.
With better main characters and more refined writing (I don't need to hear about a character eating chips FIFTEEN times in 2 pages.), this book could have been a real winner.
Triggers you might want to watch out for: murder, drug use/abuse, infidelity, and animal cruelty/death (some of this is graphic).

We're teased for most of the book about why these two women hate each other and why they're estranged. And the way it's gone on about, you're expecting something unholy.
It wasn't. It was an AITA Reddit post.
And there's SO much leadup that by the time it IS revealed, we're all going "yeah, duh, we figured it out half a book ago".
I think this one had a lot of potential - but the characters we're following are so unlikeable I quit caring about anything going on around them. The middle of the book also drags, after they find the commune because it sort of turns into a melodrama. We lose the hunt and the mystery of what's out there sort of gets lost in between all the cat fights going on between Hallie and Gertie.
With better main characters and more refined writing (I don't need to hear about a character eating chips FIFTEEN times in 2 pages.), this book could have been a real winner.
Triggers you might want to watch out for: murder, drug use/abuse, infidelity, and animal cruelty/death (some of this is graphic).

Find Me was a fast-paced, intriguing read that kept me turning the pages. It's one of those books that's incredibly easy to sink into, with enough mystery and tension to keep you guessing right to the end.
One of the book's greatest strengths is its atmosphere. Holly Craig captures the Tasmanian wilderness beautifully, creating a setting that feels both breathtaking and deeply unsettling. The descriptions of the mountains and the abrupt shift from daylight to darkness are especially vivid, and the wilderness itself becomes almost a character in the story. There are moments involving the local wildlife that felt so authentic and immersive that I could practically hear the sounds and feel the tension of the night around me.
I also appreciated the subtle ways the author builds unease. Small details, seemingly innocuous choices, and an ever-present sense that something isn't quite right create a creeping tension that lingers throughout the novel. The hints of mythology woven into the story, particularly the references to the lamia, added an extra layer of intrigue and had me questioning what was really going on for much of the book.
The characters themselves aren't always easy to like, and I mean that as a compliment. They make frustrating choices, keep secrets, and carry plenty of emotional baggage, but that only made them feel more human. Beneath all the suspicion and uncertainty is a surprisingly touching found family story, and that ended up being my favourite aspect of the novel.

It's also about identity, family, and learning who you are when everything familiar has been stripped away. Both Hallie and Gertie are forced to confront old wounds and reassess what truly matters to them, and I found their emotional journeys just as compelling as the mystery itself. I especially appreciated how the novel tied together threads from the past and gave satisfying closure to characters and questions that had been lingering in the background.
My only real criticism is the way the central mystery is ultimately resolved. After spending so much time invested in Hallie and Gertie's journey, I found it a little anticlimactic that the truth was revealed through a news report rather than through dialogue or a more personal scene between the characters. I would have loved to see them return to the town and have a chance to process everything with the people they'd encountered along the way. That kind of emotional and narrative closure would have made the ending land more strongly for me.
Even so, Find Me was an engaging, compulsively readable thriller with memorable characters, a wonderfully atmospheric setting, an intriguing touch of mythology, and an unexpectedly heartfelt found family core. I raced through it and thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

Following their mum's death, two sisters (Hallie & Gertie) agree to work together to find out what happened to their brother. Pete Hillberry was a writer & online blogger who was drawn to the wilderness & the mountains & he went missing two years ago on Mount Mercy - a mountain which has seen more than its fair share of missing hikers.
Hallie wants to head out to find the secret location of a mysterious commune rumoured to be the site of the last sighting of Pete. It's not easy to find but when they finally find the group, something is not right. Half of the cabins now look abandoned & most of the group who are left are either unfriendly or creepy. It doesn't help that Hallie & Gertie have been estranged for several years & no longer know how to communicate with each other about anything. When Hallie asks one of the group, Raf, why they have a watchtower with an armed guard but Raf is evasive. As more & more weird things happen, Hallie begins to wonder if the group is the reason Pete went missing.
There were things I really liked about this one: the setting, the main plot, & the book cover, but all of that was dulled by the two main characters. Hallie & Gertie & their endless squabbling tainted things for me & it became a bit of a chore to read. Also there were lots of references to something that had happened between them which broke them apart, but it wasn't revealed until near the end & I don't see why. It was obvious what had happened so the big reveal was more of a 'yeah, thought so'. I would read another book by the author as apart from the two MCs the other aspects were fine.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love multi day hiking and Tasmania is just stunning, I knew this book was going to be right up my alley.

We have a few timelines from the past and present coming together it took a little while to get my head around them… once it was all revealed what really happened -

The advanced reader copy reviews are NOT it. I can not comprehend why anyone would not give this book a solid 5 stars. My suggestion is to listen to the audiobook - if you are not able to actually feel like you are there on Mercy Mountain, you don’t feel the fear of being watched by something creepy that isn’t safe to go out on your own because it will take you, you don’t experience the fear of staying quiet while a creepy man with rotting teeth is hunting you on the mountain with a gun, if your own heart isn’t beating a little too fast when there aren’t any more spare car tires to replace the ones that have just gone flat… if you know you can’t visualize at a high intensity when reading then don’t do yourself a disservice and download the audiobook!
Kellie Jones, holy shit! She was already a favorite narrator of mine but this is a new side of Kellie Jones like I’ve never heard before! I got goose bumps because you made me feel so creeped out!
Did not have a single clue what was going to happen next and I was on edge the entire time! I’ve never read/listened to a book that properly freaked me out while home alone at night!

I’ve been discovering more wilderness thrillers than usual lately, and I’ve been loving them! The threat of getting lost in the wild, far from any help, raises the stakes of the suspense dramatically.
This book opened strongly for me, as I loved the idea of polar-opposite sisters brought together by a shared goal, forced to set aside their differences and cooperate. However, the middle section didn’t showcase this dynamic as much as I would have liked. Hallie and Gertie spend significant time apart, and when they do share scenes, their interactions are often hostile. As a result, I lost my connection to their dynamic for a while.
The commune members were intriguing, though cult-themed stories aren't usually my cup of tea, so I waited to see where the narrative was heading. Fortunately, it picked up in the direction I enjoyed, with the suspense building to a crescendo. The high-adrenaline action scenes were fantastic, and the conclusion was epic.

Set in the atmospheric Tasmanian wilderness, this was a gripping and intriguing read.
Hallie and Gertie Hillberry's brother went missing three years ago on Mount Mercy in the Southwest National Park and has never been found. After the death of their mum, Hallie resolves to carry out her dying wish and return to Pine Peak, along with her sister, to finally discover what happened to Pete.
There are lots of rumours about the mountain – strange phenomena, legends and a mysterious commune. The locals claim it 'takes people' and don't have much sympathy for missing hikers and explorers.
Pete disappeared after setting out to find the Peakers, his name for the elusive community members who live in the commune, which is rumoured to be in a network of caves.
The story is told from the points of view of Hallie and Gertie and we go back in time to the aftermath of Pete going missing when his family headed to the town to try and find him. We also read emails and news reports, which gave more details.
Overall, this was a fascinating read and I raced through the book, gripped by the hostile and treacherous setting and the rather reckless search for Pete by his sisters. The relationship between Hallie and Gertie was intriguing, with lots of unresolved tensions and secrets. Despite Hallie being a member of the State Emergency Services (SES) in Sydney, they seemed rather unprepared for what lay ahead.
The story was well paced and it was really tense, chilling and unsettling at times. I was really absorbed by the premise and was surprised how things were all resolved.
This was the first book of Holly Craig's that I've read but I've got a couple of her others on my Kindle and look forward to reading them soon.

This one had me hooked in the beginning. The missing brother, the location, the estranged sisters and all the weird disappearances had me thinking this was going to be such a good, creepy mystery.
But then the middle really dragged for me. I just wasn’t that interested in all the hookups and commune stuff. I also didn’t really like the FMCs, which made it harder to care about what was happening with them.
I did get more into it again towards the end when the mystery came back into focus, but by then it had wandered a bit too far from what I was actually interested in.
Definitely had potential, but it just wasn’t as intense or gripping as I wanted it to be.

Strange disappearances have been happening in the area, and the commune members—supposedly friendly hippies—aren’t welcoming. When Hallie and Gertie feel like they’re being watched, and their car is repeatedly sabotaged, they realize something horrible happened to their brother—and that they might be next.
Told from the POV of both Hallie and Gertie, and flashing between the present and the past, we learn the shocking reason the sisters are estranged, what led to their brother’s disappearance, the fatal events of a failed search and rescue mission for Pete years earlier, and the dark secrets the commune members hold. All of this makes for a tense read that ends with a twist I’d highly recommend to fans of suspense-filled psychological thrillers.

This survival thriller about two sisters seeking to find the truth about their brother's disappearance in the Tasmanian wilderness had me hooked from page one.
I liked how it was told with each sister's current POV, plus a backstory from three years earlier all intermingled with journal entries, emails and a very scary 'entity'.
I found it all very gripping and the atmosphere of the commune in the mountain setting was so creepy. As the chapters were short I just kept wanting to read more. I loved discovering the reason for the sisters' estrangement and thought that they were well written characters.
I enjoyed this book immensely and now want to read this author's other novels.

Thoughts: Where do I even start!!! 5 star read!!! I was completely immersed from the very first chapter. The suspense was incredible, and the eerie atmosphere throughout the book had me hooked.
The setting was atmospheric, and having previously visited Tasmania, I found myself able to vividly visualise the surroundings, which added an extra layer to my reading experience and made the story feel even more immersive.
I really enjoyed the complexity of the sister relationship and how it was explored throughout the story. The dual POV, combined with flashbacks from years prior, was a great addition and brought a deeper sense of mystery, tension, and suspense to the plot. I did not predict the ending of the book, which was amazing as it left me on the edge of my seat right up until the last chapter!

Huge and amazing story! Full of twists and dangerous characters. A thrillery suspenseful Aussie mountain outback tale that had me absolutely hooked. Five huge stars.

This is the most intense, brooding and atmospheric Australian rural noir I’ve ever read. Set on the (fictional) Mount Mercy in south west Tasmania two estranged sisters, Hallie and Gertie, with an extremely complicated relationship, set out to discover what happened when their brother, Pete, disappeared three years ago. The story is told in the first person by each sister as well as Hallie, in the first person, detailing her initial search three years ago with other SES colleagues, one of whom is her fiancé. Filled with dark themes, including drug use, a hidden commune, murder, fighting for survival, a malevolent unseen being and violence this is an incredible feat by the author and her imagination. The resolution is completely unexpected in this amazing survival thriller. Contains a fair bit of explicit language.

This is the first Holly Craig book I have read. I have already looked up her other books as I like her adventurous style of storytelling. Two estranged sisters go searching for their missing brother in Tasmania at Mount Mercy. The local lore has it that the mountain takes people with several missing persons with no explanation. My attention was immediately captured as the sisters , opposites, look for a commune where their brother was last seen. Tempers flare and weird occurrences surrounding them. The end kind of lost me, but I still enjoyed the overall effort. Full of adventure but an animal sacrifice was a difficult part and may be triggering.

Could not put this book down. Twisty, atmospheric and dark thriller had me hooked. Set in the remote mountains of Tasmania, 2 sisters who really cannot not stand each other, a missing brother, their Mother’s dying wish, a commune with secrets hidden deep in the mysterious, eerie dense coverings of Mount Mercy. A legend, strange happenings and a mountain ‘that takes people’.
Well paced, tense, atmospheric with twists and an ending I did not see coming.
Absolutely loved this book, but will not be camping in Tassie any time soon 😱

Hooked from the first page!
I loved Find Me! I didn’t want it to end. Twist and turns, full of surprises. I also loved that it was based in Tassie and love a good Aussie author. Highly recommend! :)

“Find Me” by Holly Craig is one of those atmospheric thrillers where the setting is almost as important as the mystery itself; and, in this case, the wild Tasmanian wilderness is seriously creepy.
The story follows estranged sisters Hallie and Gertie, who reunite because of their mother’s dying wish: go back to the mountain where their brother Pete disappeared and find out what happened to him. Honestly, the whole premise feels a little reckless (who sends their kids into a dangerous mountain wilderness on purpose?), but it definitely kicks the story into motion.
Pete vanished near a remote commune at the base of Mount Mercy, and he wasn’t the first man to disappear there. As the sisters start digging into what happened, things get stranger and stranger. Between chapters, we get emails and messages from Pete before he disappeared, which slowly reveal that he thought someone or something was following him while he was living with the commune.
The book jumps between timelines and perspectives, with flashbacks showing what happened during the initial search for Pete and what led to the sisters becoming estranged. Their relationship is not great, to say the least. They clearly resent each other, and neither of them is particularly likable at times. Hallie is obsessed with finding the truth no matter the cost, while Gertie would rather leave the past buried and move on with her life. It makes their dynamic messy, but also pretty realistic for a fractured family.
One of the best parts of the book is the setting. The descriptions of the Tasmanian wilderness are eerie and immersive with dense forests, dangerous terrain, and this constant feeling that something is watching from the trees. The commune adds another layer of mystery too, with secretive members, strange rituals, and a lot of suspicious behavior.
There’s also a weird supernatural element running through the story. Locals believe the mountain “takes men,” and there are legends about some kind of entity or creature in the wilderness. Whether that’s just superstition or something real becomes a huge question throughout the book.
The chapters are short and fast-paced, which makes it a really quick read, even though the middle slows down a bit. There are also some strange POV chapters from an unknown narrator that feel confusing at first but eventually tie into the bigger mystery.
And then there’s the twist.
Without spoiling anything, the explanation for what’s happening on the mountain is completely wild and honestly pretty unpredictable. It takes the story in a direction I definitely didn’t see coming, which made the ending memorable.
Overall, “Find Me” is a creepy, atmospheric thriller with cult vibes, family drama, and a strange mystery at its core. If you like remote wilderness settings, eerie legends, and stories where the truth turns out to be way stranger than expected, this one is worth checking out.
