He’s a warrior for the light. But he belongs in the dark.

Nicolas Garcia is a paladin without a purpose. He slogs through each day wondering whether he’s doing the right thing. Captain of a squad who hates him and brother to a man who’s shunned by the guild, he barely recognizes the guild that raised him.

Ashmedai is a sin eater. A monster. He’s never wanted more than the hunt, but a chance encounter with a holy warrior leaves him reeling. He’s never felt like this before, and all he knows for certain is that Nicolas belongs to him. And he’ll do anything to have him.

The sin eater has been hunting paladins for weeks. Nicolas shouldn’t want him, but he craves Ashmedai in a way that isn’t rational. When he has to infiltrate the corrupt leadership of the guild to help innocents caught in the crossfire, it jeopardizes everything between them. Can a paladin really belong to a monster who thrives in the dark?

This book and I were at odds from the very beginning.

I get that the further the story goes, the harder it is to invent different pairings. I'm simply not the right audience for some of more outlandish choices, and for this reason alone I remained stubbornly annoyed for quite a while.

Nevertheless, Nicolas and Ash's unconventional romance turned out to be an emotional one, and the intensity of angst caught me off guard. Yes, I may strongly dislike certain aspects, but the sacrifice, selflessness - and at its core, the acceptance that a heart wants what it wants - reluctantly made me look past my reservations. Glimpses of real intimacy, which were occasionally lacking in previous installments, added a great deal to their connection 🖤 It was sweet for an actual demon like Ash to care for his human so tenderly. Even if I wanted to slap Nicolas for his one particular fumble, his inner turmoil felt genuine. In the end, they made sense, and that's all that matters.

The war is finally on their doorstep.. Look, the ending left me begging for more, so I'll be back to see how it plays out. Your move, Commander Sloan 👹

Okay... can we start with that ending?! Because excuse me?! I finished this book desperately needing the next one immediately. It somehow manages to leave you with both heartbreak and hope, and now I'm emotionally invested beyond repair.

Every book in this series has been fantastic, but Wretched feels like the point where everything levels up. The writing has matured beautifully, with so many little details that make the world, the relationships and the emotions feel richer than ever.

Ashmedai was such a fascinating character to follow. Watching an ancient sin eater learn about humanity, friendship, family and love was funny, wholesome and surprisingly emotional. While Nicolas is navigating his own fears, Ashmedai is discovering what it means to belong, and seeing those two journeys intertwine made their relationship feel incredibly rewarding.

I need to mention Ashmedai and Daniel's relationship. Watching Ashmedai gain his first brother, his first flatmate, and his first taste of everyday human life was beautiful. Those quieter moments added so much heart to the story and reminded me that some of the biggest character development happens over conversations, shared space and found family rather than battles. This demon tribe just keeps growing, and I love every new addition.

The spice very much takes a back seat to the story, but when it arrives... wow. One scene had me putting my Kindle down for a solid minute while I tried to work out whether I'd just witnessed a form of self-DP. Dark romance really does have you asking questions you never thought you'd need the answer to. (IYKYK. 😂)

The romance was beautifully balanced with the wider story, the world-building continues to expand, and the looming war has me both excited and terrified for what's coming next.

As always; I’ve only just started and I’m already absorbed by Yarrow’s writing style.

Nicolas is a Paladin and Ash is a demon sin eater without human-like features; seriously different unlike all the other books in the series because Ash definitely cannot pass as a human.

Aannnnd It’s another interesting read y’all - yes it still happened too fast (the destined fate thing - I’m not a huge fan when there’s no emotional slow burn or yearning) but this time we get the demon side trying to acclimate to the new human side of things. I really enjoyed watching the growth and obstacles Ash has to overcome and wish we actually saw more of him trying to fit into this new world and how he learns to accomplish each item.

Although things between Nicolas and Ash did proceed quite fast I’m glad that they did have a moment of angst (but please can we have more of it?). I feel as though the series is story driven and not relationship driven so the emotional connection sometimes comes second to the story. I mean, the story is interesting but I would like to have more pull towards the MCs.

The development of the side characters was too endearing - Daniel and Ash were sooo sweet I loved them and that ending was NOT COOL (Don’t worry. I saw the next book). I feel like there’s still a lot of unresolved questions about how Nicolas and Ash’s relationship looks like in the future since, as a couple, they are very different from the others. But maybe we will get a glimpse of that in the next book.

Looking forward to the next book, and if you haven’t guessed it yet …. *evil laugh*

There's a new Demon in town

Ashmedai is a new kind if demon. He can't pass as human like the others can. He also doesn't eat it sleep like the others can. Ash is a sin eater and this is his first time out of purgatory. He is here to feast upon the paladins who are consumed by darkness. When he comes across Nicolas and his team he gets to see a light among the dark souls. This light calls to him like no one ever has before.

In one night Nicolas loses his entire team and finds himself drawn to a demon. He knows things with the guild are bad and paladins are hooking up with demons. While he expected to join their cause he didn't expect Ash.

I loved seeing Ash experience all these new things. He has to learn to speak and work with a group to keep their special humans alive. He also has to learn about vulnerability and trust as he gets closer to Nicolas. He is afraid that he will scare him away.

This book really sets up for the final showdown between the demons and the paladins. Things with the guild have continued to deteriorate causing more and more members to question what's going on. It seems that the people higher up are making up their own rules and they are not beneficial to the paladins.

I loved the family that has grown from these expaladins and their demons. Plus the two kids they have basically adopted.

That ending was brutal. The bonus Halloween epilogue was needed after all that heaviness. I'm super intrigued about what's going on with purgatory, how this final showdown is going to go down, and the things Ira has seen that are currently impossible. Thankfully we have a small hint but there's a lot of questions.

I keep finding myself both eagerly awaiting the rest of this series, and hoping it never ends. I genuinely look forward to these ARC's getting sent to me and plan for a full series re-read before the last one.

**There are some details in this review that might give away some of the book, so read with caution.**

Wretched is another winner from the author. Ashmedai is a Sin Eater, a new type of demon that has spent his entire existence in Hell and is therefore completely out of his element on Earth amongst humanity. He doesn't let that stop him from finding his human though: Nicolas.

Nicolas is a captain of his squad in the Paladin Guild and is, of course, struggling with the completely unhinged way Commander Sloan is running the place (which has gotten even worse since the last book).

This book went to a pretty sad place toward the end that I wasn't expecting. I'm hopeful for a happy resolution in the next book because phew this one was a tear jerker.

The spice is great in this one too, I love the author's MM scenes.

Ashmedai is my favorite of the demons so far. I'm a sucker for the insecure and shy demon type that is otherwise ridiculously overpowered. Ash is used to everyone that encounters him in Hell to run in terror because he's, well, lethal and hungry. He knows humans will also flee in terror and is afraid to let even his human see his body and face. His entire existence has been lonely, it's lovely to see him come out of his shell with Nicolas's help.

“You deserve light.”

“Ash, baby—” A curl of delight went through Ashmedai at the term of endearment. “—being in the dark with you makes me feel good.”

Here we are, back at it again with another straight banger.

First off, I’m never going to emotionally recover from this. I waited to read Nicolas’s story because I was really looking forward to reading Danny’s story immediately after and THIS is the shit you pull? Unforgivable.

I loved Nicolas and Ashmedai, actually. I liked that Nicolas was reserved about the way he felt and Ashmedai didn’t initially know how to handle the feelings Nicolas’s hesitation caused. I liked that Ashmedai learned for Nicolas, that they both had to grow in order to come together properly. I liked that Ashmedai was self conscious about his demonic features and how easily Nicolas fell in love with his uniqueness. Just all of it, really. This couple was perfect to me.

(That, and I’m a sucker for any monster romance that has whatever you call what Ashmedai has going on downstairs in it. What is it about those slits? I find them fascinating.)

But the whole refusal to leave the Paladins thing frustrated the hell out of me, man. All of the loneliness and longing Nicolas had to go through? Heart-wrenching. And so, so avoidable. Like, we know Sloane is a zealot by now, why are we not all running for the hills? Lock in, boys.

I still really enjoyed it, and will promptly be moving on to Indecent. Five stars for the fact that I was still crying long after I put the book down. That was just mean.

Seventh in series (Dark Delights), best if read in order. Paranormal. Found family. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

When Nicolas and his squad run into a sin eater demon, Nicolas is the only one left alive, and for some reason yearning for the demon. But just as Ashmedai plans to claim Nicolas as his own, the teenage members of the Sentinels are kidnapped by the Paladin commander and Nicolas must remain undercover in the Guild to find their location.

This story immediately launches into the steamy connection between Ashmedai and Nicolas, and after the slightest hesitation Nicolas is all in with accepting they were meant to be together. For Ash there is nothing besides his belief that Nicolas is his, and he tries very hard to respect Nicolas’s wishes while working hard to make himself more familiar with the human world and how to navigate both friend and intimate relationships. I really enjoyed every moment Ash and Nicolas are on page together, and how this group readily embraces each new member/couple into their family. I’m still thoroughly invested in this series and these characters, each new couple has been fantastic and the overall plotline is sometimes dark but has this good group to root for. 4.5 rounded up

Review for (Dark Delights-7) Wretched by KT Yarrow

All I can say is wow, I have been able to read a couple from this fantastic series, and now I want them all lol. I just can't say enough about this book. I love good monster stories, and this fulfilled it for me very well. I read another story with a soul eater, and let me tell you, I needed more, so thank you, KT Yarrow, for allowing me to read another one. You have a paladin (Nicolas) who is in need of a purpose. He is lost and needs more. He starts to wonder whether he is doing the right thing. Being the captain of his team that hates him. He's working for a guild that raised him but shunned his brother. He doesn't know who these people are anymore. Then we come to Ashmedai, the Sin Eater (loved him), who lit this story up. He is looked at as a monster, but all he wanted to do was live his life. He loves to hunt; that's what Sin Eaters do and do well. On one of those days, he meets a holy warrior (Nicolas) who makes him feel things that he hasn't felt; he feels alive. He decided this man is his. In Search of the Man Who Set His Life into Color was well written. I loved the way the search hunt was written. I just loved this book and want more. Now to be able to read them all lol.

"A sin eater and a paladin. Enemies in nature, yet two halves of a whole brought together by fate."

The 7th installement in the Dark delights series and it only keeps getting better and better.
More complex, an overarching plot rich and imaginative, new elements keeping the interest and creating high expectations for what's coming.
Commander Sloan is getting more and more deranged, leading the guild with an iron fist where the slightest infraction is "cleansed" with a whiping.
The corruption whithin the guild is leaking and more and more paladins are losing their faith.
Nicolas already had doubts but a encounter with fate changes everything, he mets Ashmedai,a sin eater and the atraction is powerful and irresistible.
Don't want to give away to much but there's a kidnapping and the Sentinels suffer a terrible loss (I confess that I cried a bit).
🌟MM romance
🌟steamy
🌟diferent sex organs
🌟Paladins vs Demons
🌟religious abuse
🌟graphic violence

Watch out Shad and Isaac because Nicolas and Ash are definitely taking over as my favorite couple in this series!! Oh my goodness, this book was just so amazing.

I was so excited about this book because based on previous events, I was unsure how a sin eater demon would work especially paired up with a human. But Ash was so perfect. I loved how OTT he is pretty much immediately but Nicolas stood his ground and fought for what he felt was right. My heart ached for the two of them and while I knew an HEA was coming, it was so hard. These two were swoony sweetness while also progressing the overarching storyline beautifully. I did ugly cry at one point and all I’m gonna say is be prepared for a very heart breaking chapter😭

I know there’s another book after this so I’m very interested to know how that is going to go based on the events of this one 👀 Wretched was so amazing and you should definitely be adding this series to your TBR!!!

Just when you think you know where this series is going, Yarrow yanks you back and takes you in a direction you didn’t expect. Ashmedai and Nicolas are possibly the oddest demon-paladin match up so far. Ash is, by and large, the most demonic of the bunch: he looks nothing like a human. And he doesn’t much act like one at the beginning either (but that’s ok, because it makes their first meeting sexy as hell)! Whereas Nicolas is the first paladin main character who actually has family - his brother, fellow paladin, Daniel. I loved getting to see the dynamics between Danny and Ash. This one ends on a much somber note than the previous books, but in a way that leaves me absolutely aching for the next book. I truly can’t wait.

Thank you KT Yarrow for the ARC. This review is honest and voluntary.

4.5 stars.

I was so excited for Ashmedai's story and it didn't disappoint! The chemistry between him and Nicolas was brilliant and I loved the friendship dynamic Ashmedai also developed with Daniel too. There were a few moments that I found myself telling Nicolas to stop being such a fool but I was definitely cheering these two on throughout. The wider plot is certainly hotting up and my heart broke towards the end - I need the next book as soon as possible!! Overall, glad they got their HEA together and it was another great addition to this wonderful series. I'm excited for more.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

One of the best series

Every book in the series im like this is my favourite couple. 🤣and this was no exception. Seeing all the characters interact is so much fun. The story gets more exciting and more frustrating within each book. Can't wait for next book! Though I hope it continues for ages as I dont want it to be over!
Like all the rest obsessive possesive goodness.
If you're in to that and 'demons' you don't want to risk not reading this series. 🔥 i think the sin eater is my favourite monster so far the fact hes meant to be the creepiest and how sweet he is to his human 👌

ARC Review

This book was a slight deviation from the usual formula for these books, but I still enjoyed it. I liked that demon in this book was more monstrous and how it adapted as much as it could to understand Nicholas. Ashmedai had a really cool perspective when it came to seeing souls, so that was a neat aspect.

Nicholas was stubborn at times, and didn't really take into consideration that Ashmedai hasn't spent any time in the world before. He wasn't my favorite protagonist, but I did understand where he was coming from.

I am curious how the other books will go and look forward to the next one.

While I did receive an ARC of this book from the author, I would absolutely have read it on KU anyway because I've been reading the series for awhile and I was very much looking forward to the continuation of the stories. KT Yarrow has done an excellent job building a complex, intriguing world with complicated and compelling characters and that keeps me coming back. I am looking forward tom the next installment as well.

This addition to the series is well-written, fast paced, and entertaining. The side characters, as usual, are equally engaging and bring depth and balance to the story which makes this and the others in the series well worth the reads. A recommended read for me.

I received my ARC copy of this book and devoured it in 5 hours, I just couldn't put it down. This series just gets better and better. I absolutely adore Ashmedai, considering he is supposed to be the scariest and most monstrous demon, he was so cute! He's my favourite demon so far. He and Nicolas were so sweet together. The plot really moves forward in this and things are really starting to get serious. The events at the end of this book have me so intrigued about what's to come next. I just wish I didn't have to wait so long!

I loved every book in this series, but as a monster lover (f*cker), Wretched is definitely my favorite! Finally, a demon who looks demonic. I would have loved it even more if Ashmedai's differences had been shown more. I mean, for a demon from Hell who had never set foot on Earth, the shame of his appearance is, to me, a very human emotion. For me, shame is learned, not innate. But that's just my personal interpretation. And because I love an inhuman appearance on a character.
Each book is better than the last, I can't wait to read the next book!

I don't have words.... this book is heavy and heartbreaking. Our group is grouping, but they are also facing more and more challenges and pressure. And when one of our good guys decides to fight the evil from within, the risk and the consequences come at a risk he never plans to pay. This novel also introduces us to a new type of character that also introduces us to a new concept- how human-like does a character have to be to be considered compatible... and when we find love, does that line shift?
