RADIX: A CJ Hawk - FBI Origin Story
According to Merriam Webster, the Latin word for root is RADIX. It’s often used to describe origin, or beginning, usually in mathematics, which makes it the perfect title for this book - CJ Hawk’s origin story. The book is for everybody, those who have read one or all the CJ HAWK – FBI Thrillers; DEPARTMENT ECHO, ZULU CENTER, and WASHINGTON FIELD. Or if you haven’t read any of these thrillers, it is an introduction that maybe brings you to these stories.
CJ Hawk was an Alexandria, Virginia police sergeant who became an FBI agent. Five years into his FBI career he was “Removed from the Rolls” for his part in a bank robbery takedown that resulted in the death of a fellow agent. Despite inheriting a hundred million dollars from his father, he quickly became bored and started a high end private investigations firm. As a PI, Hawk would go on to solve several complex investigations in DEPARTMENT ECHO, ZULU CENTER, and WASHINGTON FIELD.
But there is more to the CJ Hawk story. How an upper middle-class kid abandoned his father’s plans for him to take over the family business and go into law enforcement instead. And how he worked to keep himself grounded with his fellow officers and agents when in many ways they had nothing in common.

He retired with more than thirty-three years of law enforcement service and had a storied career working on several high-profile investigations. He retired as the special agent in charge of a large FBI field division and went on to become a Vice President and COO for corporate security at two large companies.
He has written editorials in The Washington Post, Gannett, and The Hill newspapers, and has appeared on America's Most Wanted, NBC's Dateline, and Fox News. He has graduate degrees in Criminology and International Relations, and in addition to writing full-time, he is a licensed Private Investigator.
AREA 51: Project Sapphire and AREA 51: Project Onyx, and AREA 51: Project Lunar Dust are the beginning of a planned series of novellas that involve crime and intrigue at the secret government base known as Area 51.
F.X. Regan has penned two full-length novels featuring dismissed FBI agent turned Private Investigator CJ Hawk that involve murder, conspiracy, and rogue government operations in Washington, D.C. A third novel is in development, and all are inspired by actual events including murders in the Nation's Capital. They are with agents and editors and will be in publication soon.
A third series featuring Fairfax County, Virginia Detective Sergeant Kiki Diaz is in production and the first novella, Rosslyn Station will be out in early fall 2023.

Wow, what a great addition to the Hawk series. F.X. Regan has let us all get a little background on this character. Radix is a number of short chapters in the life of CJ up until the first book Department Echo. I always enjoy it when we get a prequel where one learn more about what went on before. I feel that the author could go on for a long time with incidents and cases from policework and place Hawk in them. I hope everyone out there with the taste for some good books have noticed this writer and are current on all the good stories from Regan. Otherwise I can only say that you should try them out. I will soon start the Kiki Diaz series while waiting for the next one about Hawk.

The word Radix means root/origin. This is a presentation of how CJ Hawk got his start in law enforcement. It is my first book from this author. There are books available to enjoy from this series right now! This prequel has brought me to them! It is written in short chapter stories of CJ's loss of parents, decision into law enforcement, events/cases in his early years. So very interesting and entertaining.
I was gifted an Audible version of this book from the author through Story Origin. The narrator, Daniel William Maleika, is perfect for the voice of CJ Hawk and this book. He brings a rugged, brave, street smart feel to the man and the events in this book. 5 stars for him as well.

F.X. Regan’s “CJ Hawk—FBI Thriller” series is a mystery, police procedure, and thriller series that has few peers. Regan has walked the law enforcement walk of his characters and is also a master-class writer.
I recently enjoyed his latest book, “Radix.” The work covers the journey of CJ Hawk’s early law enforcement career leading into the series’ first volume, “Department Echo.” “Radix” is a collection of highlights from the meeting of Hawk’s parents, the loss of his parents, the on-again, off-again relationship with Kori West, and other life experiences that make CJ Hawk relatable to readers.
Regan’s forte is his characterization. From the protagonist/antagonist to a cameo support character, each is rich in research, emotional baggage, and street smarts. In addition, having spent much time on the streets of Washington, DC, Alexandria, and surrounding locations, his scenes fully capture the locations three-dimensions and the social atmosphere.
“Radix” is a fast-paced read and hard to put down. If this is your first read of an F.X. Regan novel, it won’t be your last.
