As the creature decimates all that is set before it, unlikely alliances will be formed, trusts broken and lives risked as the individual groups seek to find the creature first for their own agenda, unaware that they will soon become the hunted rather than the hunters…
Michael Bray is a bestselling author/screenwriter of more than twelve novels and numerous short stories. Influenced from an early age by the suspense horror of authors such as Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Shaun Hutson, James Herbert & Brian Lumley, along with TV shows like Tales from the Crypt & The Twilight Zone, his work touches on the psychological side of horror, teasing the reader’s nerves and willing them to keep turning the pages. Several of his titles have been translated into multiple languages including a major bookstore distribution deal in Japan and his biggest selling title, Whisper, has, on numerous occasions topped the overall horror charts for Amazon titles in both the UK and US with thousands of copies sold.
His work has been featured in anthologies alongside such horror greats as Clive Barker, Adam Nevill, Shaun Hutson, Brian Lumley, Paul Tremblay, Ramsay Campbell, Ray Bradbury and many others and he continues to be an active and popular member of the horror/suspense genre.
A feature film written by Bray based on his co-written novel MONSTER starring Tracy Shaw (Coronation Street), Daniele Harold (East Enders) & Rod Glenn (American Assassin / World War Z) was shot in January 2018 whilst another of his titles, MEAT is currently with a leading Los Angeles based production company with a view to production in 2019.

Usually sequels aren't as good as the original story, but with Return To The Deep Michael Bray has done it again. Created a super fun thrill ride that more than lives up to the expectations created by From The Deep. In this novel we get to catch up with some of my favorite characters and meet a few new ones. My Favorite was Ross Mackay, I really look forward to reading more about his adventures with Henry Rainwater! If you love creature features or just fun action/horror then grab this book! A solid 4.5 star read.
- 40% into the book before we even got a glimpse of the monster and the hunt itself was maybe only in the ladst 10 % - no red shirt scenes, no devastating kills to fill out the story - inconsistencies within its own framework that didn't make sense. With nothing exciting to distract you really notice this - several pages of flashback scenes that properly were a copy / paste of the first book ( I cant be sure as I got bored and skippe them) - no pace or action scenes - it felt like the monster had substituted the body in a murder investigation. The center of it all but pushed into the background of just finding the murder without investigating the corpse itself
Nothing really wrong with the story itself, but without the support of the monster it was rather uninteresting and tame. Characters were still bland. I began to be very bored around the 40-50 % mark.
Even though I liked the writing style and curious about the last book Im afraid it will be all talk and no action again. That alone is enough for me not to buy the conclusion.
The book could have been a solid 3 stars if there had been just more action scenes with the monster spread around the book.
Picking up two years after the events of "From the Deep" and the government is trying to clone one of the remaining creatures. After a break in at the facility where they're keeping the creature they decide to move it. That of course is when everything goes horrifically off course. Another fast paced read with plenty of villains and misguided people who don't think before they act. Can't wait to read the next one!
I enjoyed the book but the reference to the last book was completely unnecessary, to me it felt the author needed to fill pages. It happened at least 3 times recounting previous stories of different character. Entire section of the previous book to read again. It could easily be summarize in a few paragraphs. Other than that, I enjoyed it and can’t wait to see how this saga will end. More creatures are being created and few heroes to destroy them…
I love this undersea thriller series "From The Deep". This is of course a continuance from Book 1, and I do recommend reading them in order. This one is just as scary and breathtaking as Book 1, and after finishing this book I immediately started on Book 3 in the series and it is proving to be just as good. I recommend this entire series!
You will be taken on a journey that you will not believe could happen for real. As you read it you see what real people will due for money or prestige , then there are some that wants to save for the good. But when people dye and monster is loose , then trouble just starts to be problem. The author did a great job with the book.
I have to say that I enjoyed the first book much more than this one. It's obvious that the author plans to write more in this series, so maybe this his "Empire Strikes Back" episode. Over all not terrible, but not adding anything new. Kind of an odd choice; killing off one of the central characters, needlessly IMHO. Anyway, I'll probably give the next installment a go.
I would recommend this book in the hope that #3 turns out better.
