June 10, 2026I agreed to review this one, sent to me by the author. Didn't realize til I started the read, but an early page states that one of the characters is from the church of latter day saints. There are mentions of his previous mission, nothing theological. But I'll be back with details about it when I get my thoughts together!

Contemporary romance is not my favorite genre but every now and then I pick one up. Sometimes I'm disappointed and reminded why I dislike this genre, but other times I find myself really enjoying the story.
This is definitely the latter, although to be fair, the setting is an earlier era, before cell phones and other modern complications, very reminiscent of my childhood. The romance was sweet without a lot of angst, and unfolds against a backdrop of July Fourth celebrations in a small southern town.
My favorite thing about the book is how the FMC is a good girl, kinda like Fanny in Mansfield Park, but also very firm in her convictions - also like Fanny- without being abrasive about it.
Due to the age of the characters, i would say this is a YA romance, but there is a lot of kissing and one instance where the characters spend the whole night together (although it's innocent). I would say I probably wouldn't have a 13-14yo read it, but mature older teens would probably enjoy.

This was a fun audio book to listen to. This story of young love was a sweet and gentle journey for two people who didn't expect to fall in love with each other over the summer. I really liked the way John's attitude and focus changed as he began to get to know Debbie. As his heart opened to her, he began to see the world and his place in it differently.
Debbie was such a huge American history fan! Her enthusiasm for sharing her knowledge of the American Revolution added a patriotic excitement to the story, too.
I thought that the narrator did a really nice job with the voices in the story, as well, and it was very enjoyable to listen to.

Side note: While this is not a religious story, the author does note at the beginning of the book that the main characters are members of the LDS church, with John having just returned from his two year mission. The characters do mention that he was on mission and the characters attend church services a couple of times in the story.

When I learned the FMC was kind of a history nerd I knew I had to read this book and it did not disappoint. It was so cute and I absolutely loved how much thought and research the author put into this book.
John wanted nothing to do with settling down and Debbie wouldn't date without the prospect of a potential relationship heading towards marriage.
Debbie and John have to work together to plan the upcoming Independence Day celebration and Debbie wants to go all out. Seeing how John ends up jumping in and throwing some great ideas on how to make Debbie's celebration dreams become reality, was fun to read.
I absolutely loved the epilogue where it detailed their life together and what they created. It's also a great reminder that in marriage, you must both work to make it last.

Debbie and John Hart are on a mission to create the best Independence Day celebration that Glenwood has ever seen. While Debbie abounds with energy and knowledge for the project, John reluctantly tags along after being volunteered for the job. As the two work together, they quickly realize that there are more sparks than just fireworks flying over Glenwood this Fourth of July! What will the summer hold for them?

A cute and quick read to help celebrate America’s b-day. I appreciate Courtney putting the research into this so we could learn more about our nation’s founding. This was around a three star for me. I enjoyed the patriotic themes and learning more about South Carolina’s revolutionary history. I’m not usually a reader of YA or NA and I’m realizing that I struggle with it. The characters are a bit young for me to really feel invested in their story. I do feel compelled to research some of the historical figures and events mentioned in the book! Also—let’s just take a moment for this gorgeous book cover 🥰.
Triggers/Content: first - be aware that there is an author note at the beginning stating that even though a religion is not stated in the story, the characters are part of the LDS movement (Mormon). There are mentions throughout the story that the MMC has recently returned from a two year mission. There were NO theological discussions within the story which is why I was ok with reading this. If it had gotten into theology then I would have been uncomfortable reading it. Clean, no swearing, no spice. Lots of kissing after the couple begins to date-a couple of mentions of tongue. Mentions of struggling parental/child relationships.

What a fun read this was! This is the 3rd book I've read by C.P. Cabaniss and I can say, without a doubt, I'm definitely a fan of her writing! C.P. Cabaniss has a knack for writing deliciously swoony attraction, adorable flirty banter, and sizzling chemistry, while still keeping the romance sweet, cozy, and spice-free. It's a joy to read, and this book was no exception! This book is a sort of prequel to one of the author's other books, Christmas Games and Candy Canes. The main characters in this book are the parents of one of the main characters, Georgie, in Christmas Games and Candy Canes (which I read and loved!), so it was really neat and cute to get to read about the parents' love story, too.
I loved both main characters, John and Debbie! They're both so likeable and their story is precious! At first, they seem to be opposites in many ways, but you quickly see that their differences actually make them compliment each other so well and make their compatibility even stronger. These characters bring out the best in each other, which is always so wonderful to see in a love story. As someone who fell in love with and married my high school sweetheart (and our love is stronger and better than ever almost 27 years later!), I really enjoy reading stories where the characters find their soul mates at a young age and mature and grow together to build true, lasting, forever love. It's a beautiful thing to read!
Another aspect of this story that I just adored is all the history! This story takes place before and around the 4th of July as John and Debbie are tasked with planning their small South Carolina town's July 4th celebration event. As they prepare and plan to throw the best celebration their town has ever seen, they spend much of their preparation time learning and sharing about the history of America, the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and some of the history of South Carolina. As a huge history fan, I totally loved getting to read about real American history while enjoying the sweet romance. The author naturally and beautifully intertwined the historical aspects of the book with the love story. She managed to fit in tons of fascinating history while making it seem like a natural, necessary part of the story and an integral part of John and Debbie's growing relationship. In just a few weeks, our country will celebrate 250 years of being a nation. And as Americans everywhere celebrate, I can't think of a more perfect book to read to help you ring in this historical milestone in our country's history!

Thrown together to organise their small town of Glenwood's annual Independence Day party, sparks fly the moment Debbie and John lay eyes on each other. The more time they spend together planing an "epic" town party, the more the attraction between them grows. John might have been open to a summer fling but what he and Debbie didn't know, was that love was about to come knocking on their doors.
Debbie and John were such a sweet couple! This was an enjoyable and well paced story.
This is probably the most faith oriented of Cabaniss’ books so far, but I enjoyed the fact that it showcased another way of looking at romantic relationships. Debbie knew what she wanted her dating life to look like and she stuck to her moral convictions, instead of letting herself be swayed by cute dimples, "fuzzy feelings" and the excitement of a summer romance. This made John think about his priorities and what he wanted in life.
I really enjoyed the tidbits of history about the American Revolution and the role that the signers from South Carolina played in the Independence of America.
This book was on the shorter side (~240 pages) and will make a great summer read, especially with all the 4th of July vibes!

John is back in Glenwood after serving two years in missions over in Germany. He isn’t looking for love but biding his time, saving money to backpack across Europe. Voluntold to help coordinate a Fourth of July town celebration, he plans to BBQ and have some fireworks. That’s what most people do, right?

This is the perfect story as we near the 250th anniversary! As the FMC stated “Celebrating the birth of our nation is about more than food and fireworks. It’s about history.”
It was incrediblely cute and made me want to crack open a history book again.
Possibly my new favorite of the authors books (again! I said that after the last 2 releases too). I'll definitely be putting this on my reread list each summer before the 4th of July.
A young couple with great humor and were believable characters. He was a gentleman but not perfect. She was confident often but still struggled.

This is the perfect book to read as we prepare to celebrate our nation's 250th anniversary! Filled with summertime vibes, heartfelt conversations, romance, and small-town charm, it's a story that will have you kicking up your feet and smiling from beginning to end.
John and Debbie are tasked with organizing their town's Fourth of July celebration, giving us a hero who is adamantly against dating and a heroine determined to protect her heart. Their journey is sweet, engaging, and full of meaningful moments.
C. P. Cabaniss clearly did her research with the seamless blend of South Carolina and American history woven throughout the story. I especially enjoyed learning about some of the lesser-known details of our nation's past, which added depth and richness to the reading experience.
This was a charming, heartwarming read that celebrates community, history, and the courage it takes to open your heart.

Debbie was such a strong and self assured female lead. I loved that she knew who she was and didn’t apologize for it.
I was unsure of John at first but his character growth was well done. I mean it’s all encapsulated in this quote, “Somehow she's taken the boy I was and helped him on the path toward becoming a man.” I love it!
I learned so much from those historical facts and it was done in a way that wasn’t boring which is always a plus.
I can’t wait to continue this series!

After reading Christmas Games and Candy Canes I had to read this book and see more into the lives of John and Debbie and how their love story came about!
This was a sweet story of two people slowly realising they mean something to each other and building a life together. Their faith and their trust in what is meant for them is strong, and that was encouraging.
I liked Debbies character, she was driven and inspiring, and I think these traits were good for John, as he was able to learn from her too. It was quite sweet to see him become so smitten with her! I really enjoyed their story and learning more of the history involved too.
While this was a quick read for me, I think it had everything in it to be able to enjoy the story and not feel that it was rushed or anything missed.
This was a sweet story of two people slowly realising they mean something to each other and building a life together. Their faith and their trust in what is meant for them is strong, and that was encouraging.

I loved the slight hint at religion. It is not a huge part of the book. This book centers mostly on American history and the 4th of July celebration both Jack and Debbie are in charge of organizing and planning. Fun American history facts are thrown in amongst the love story.
The story is well-written and fun and easy to read. I was able to also listen to the audiobook and the Narrator did a great job. The sound and volume was consistent and allowed me to listen at 1.75 x speed.
For some, it may seem unrealistic for such a young couple to fall in love but this could have been my story. We got married at 19 and 23 so it brought back memories for me.
There are no swears or alcohol, and level 1 kisses only. Dual POV

I received this as an ARC and I loved it! Perfect timing with the 250th 4th of July coming up! This has the cutest clean love story, as they’re spending time together planning the 4th of July celebration, Debbie and John fall rather quickly for each other. My favorite part of the story is Debbie’s random 4th themed history facts and how John found that about her so endearing and planned dates around her love of history. There’s a brief hint of religion to it, but just in that it mentions that John had just returned from a 2 year mission, and they keep strict boundaries in their relationship. But it definitely isn’t a religious book! If you love history and a fun clean love story, this is definitely for you!

I absolutely loved Sparks Over Glenwood! John and Debbie were the cutest couple. I loved how serious Debbie took planning the 4th of July town event and how John got caught up in the excitement after his initial reluctance to help. Debbie’s habit of explaining historical facts was so much fun to read. I also enjoyed reading how John stepped up to be the kind of man he wanted to be as well. All in all, John and Debbie were one of my favorite couples I’ve read this year. I recommend Sparks Over Glenwood to anyone who loves girls with never ending history facts, boys who fall first, and classic summer romance vibes.

Sparks Over Glenwood was a sweet read. I enjoyed the quiet feel of the book, set back in a time when life was busy, but focused on your community and family. I also enjoyed the respectful theme of the book - where a gentleman can still be chivalrous and protective, and a lady can enjoy a relationship set with clear, respectful boundaries. The slow burn between John and Debbie was a joy to read, and the chemistry was great. I enjoyed reading this book, and highly recommend it for those looking for a clean, sweet romance.

It is a warm and lovely romance!! It blends finding oneself, history, love, and adventure beautifully!!
I am an enthusiastic history lover and so having pieces of history in the book was an excellent bonus!! She does it in a fun and entertaining manner :)

June 15, 2026This was a cute and sweet. Very patriotic with all the US facts. This book follows two LDS characters, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at how deeply LDS culture shaped them and their relationship. (I know because I am LDS). It's definitely something you don't see in romcoms.
Tension and conflict were basically non-existent in this story, and while that might appeal to some people, I personally like tension to keep things interesting. I found myself bored through parts of it because of that.
Overall, it's a good story.

This was the perfect book to read with fourth of
July approaching and it being the 250th anniversary of the founding of America. 🇺🇸
I loved all the historical facts sprinkled into this book and even learned some new things about our nation’s history.
I also really loved and appreciated the positive light the author gave to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
It was a cute, sweet read and I really enjoyed the characters of Debbie and John. It was fun seeing how the Hart family began. ❤️

Cute Christian Romance where they work on a celebration together and they end up falling in love. It takes place in South Carolina with some references to Florida. I love how the FMC is so sure about herself and her boundaries and won’t accept less than even when she wants to. She stands her ground and that is very inspiring to me. The MMC at first doesn’t like her standing her ground but grows to truly enjoy her. I enjoyed how the love story was written and how close to real life it is.

Sparks Over Glenwood is an amazing fourth of July book. There are many sweet and funny moments that made me smile. I loved the faith themes that were added into the book, and I felt like I learned along with the characters. Sometimes, our plans are not God's plans, and yet God always carries out His plan for our lives. All we need to do is trust Him. I really enjoyed this book and would totally recommend it.🤗

I loved this book, it wasn't a quick read for me because it was full of history that I am completely unaware of being a non American and I couldn't do my usual speed read. I really enjoyed learning it though! The characters were great, I loved reading their story and how the independence day event that I loved in Christmas games and candy canes came about! I didn't need the back story of the event to read that story but am so glad it was written because it was so good!

I really enjoyed this book! My favorite part is how the author weaved elements of U.S. history, especially Revolutionary War era, into the story. There are also lots of interesting facts about South Carolina. The love interests are believable and real. I appreciated how there relationship developed slowly physically and there was no explicit content or language. It is wonderful that it is a prequel, so we know we have the opportunity to revisit them in other books on the series.

This was the perfect summer book for America 250! Romance centered around Independence Day is something I never expected, but I absolutely love it. The author did such an amazing job with her characters and their chemistry. Very cute, very wholesome. I also learned a lot of random history facts about South Carolina and I was totally into it.

My favorite thing about this story: it's an uncomplicated one! A couple meets, spends time together, and falls in love. It's really a very sweet story. One of the lessons I felt I got from it is the importance of family, and that's really what it's about. I liked the quirkiness of the characters and the simple storyline!
