Alice Ward is the bestselling author of dozens of hot and steamy contemporary romances. She’s an amazingly prolific writer, releasing a new book almost every single month. Her books are widely read, especially by women and any other lovers of the romance genre. My Stepbrother, My Lover, was her first smash hit.
I should have known better than to take advice from FB ads for the next book to read! I mean honestly, the cover is hot looking. And totally drew me in. But this book was frustrating at best. The chemistry between Kate and Max was just so so. She was kind of all over the place with her emotions. At first she wanted nothing more than a hook up and then she was head over heals for Max. Huh? That makes no sense really it didn't. The drug use and alcohol didn't bother me but it was a bit pushed. I mean she went a little girls gone wild in the first part of the book. Then when she actually seems to get her life in order with friends and Max, the cliche silliness of the auditions and Dylan come into play?! Ugh - that was just over the top. Who could not see this coming from a mile away? And the sex and romance in this story? Not hot or steamy in comparison to other stories. I cannot believe that it was not hotter than it was. Overall I would give it a 2 star rating. Not the worst book I ever read but definitely not one I would recommend.
This book wasn't for me. To sexual in a nasty way and I didn't like the drug use. I couldn't even finish it. I thought the description of the book sounded good and it was free so I thought I might like it. If it started out different instead of going straight into sex with a stranger and then drugs it probably wouldn't of been bad. Sorry this book wasn't for me
I hate giving bad reviews but if i would have paid for this book I would have been very upset. My advice, get it for free or skip it. I struggled to finish the book, hoping it would get better but ended up dissapointed. For me the character development was lacking greatly and I found inconsistencies in the story that made me crazy. I love the theater and was excited to give this book a shot but in the end I couldn't wait for it to be over and I'll pass on the upcoming sequel.
Woman has a one night stand with a guy she really likes, but immediately ghosts him because she thinks only jerks have one night stands (???). He calls her a few times, which she ignores.
Woman finds guy again at her new job. He’s excited to see her, but she’s rude because of her strong, inexplicable belief that only jerks have one night stands.
Woman gets a great audition opportunity so she binge drinks the night before. She winds up vomiting on the shoes of a potential co-star and is booted from the audition.
Woman finds out that her one night stand co-worker now has a girlfriend. They seem really into each other so she immediately decides that she must have him and begins working to alienate him from his girlfriend under the guise of becoming friends with her.
Eventually the plan works. Guy cheats on his girlfriend with woman, tries to make it work with his girlfriend, but eventually dumps her for the woman.
Woman inexplicably gets ANOTHER major audition and is immediately offered a lead role in a major production. She turns it down for a much smaller role, which she is clearly offered because the star of the show has met her once and falls for her.
Woman is surprised that her reputation is impacted by her famous co-star’s obvious attraction to her, his history of getting his romantic interests cast as co-stars, and her landing the role out of absolutely nowhere. For some reason some people think I’m sleeping with this guy who got me cast in this show and has a history of sleeping with the women he’s gotten casted!
Woman’s dramatic outrage is undercut when she immediately goes out for drinks with co-star and makes out with him, only to have boyfriend walk into the bar.
Cliffhanger ending. Editing is ROUGH. An example: the MC tries out for "Chicago" and the author gets the name of a major character wrong (it's "Billy Flynn," not "Billy Flint"). Author’s bio says she publishes about a book a month and with this level of workmanship, that’s not a surprising statement.

I have never read a book by Alice Ward before. I just loved it. Katie is like any 21 year out looking to make her dreams come true. she meets Max and haves what she thought was a one night stand. her feelings is strong and all over the place I just love a story with twist and turns and this one has a lot. I can not wait for part two
Wow! What a book! I be read other books based on Broadway but this kept my attention. I like that the book shows that even your friends can become jealous of your success. Kate is talented but is quickly coming to terms on what the business is. I love her friendship with Janette! I wait to read part two. I just finished reading within a couple of hours.
Kate came to Manhattan looking for her chance to be on the stage, she ended up getting a little more than she bargained for. Part one left us with a nail biting cliffhangers, what will part two have in store for Kate? Can she win Max back, is Dylan only after one thing and will Serena get her comeuppance?
It was a bit long worded, like it went on too long. And the back and forth between her and her boyfriend showed so little trust. I really wanted to liked this book I just hope the second one is better.
Ugh can't wait for the final installment. Alice has this awesome way of writing that pulls you in and doesn't let you go until you finish the entire book. Loved the story line & ALL the characters in stagestruck, laughed throughout the story.
The typos I was able to get past... but the story was so predictable and just flat out boring! Kate, the main character was kind of a brat and really annoying! Save your time and money and skip this one
Iowa girl with dreams of Broadway and her adventures
I really enjoyed the story so far of Kate and Max. Her move to the big city, making new friends and learning the ups and downs of making it. Love how she keeps running into Max, and can't wait to read the rest of the story
I was given this free for my honest review, it was a fantastic story right from the start, highs and lows and lots of misunderstandings, love and jealousy will definitely keep you gripped, can't wait for part 2
I swear, these characters have no middle ground. They swing from being madly in lust to " I never want to see you again you sleaze-ball". It's a nice horny story, even with the extreme mood swings, giving a glimpse of what the acting profession is really like.
So, this was a free read thank goodness. And once I start a series I have to finish it. I wasn't impressed. SO. MANY. SPELLING. ERRORS. AND. TYPOS. Then, there were factual mixups. Like, at one point, Sheila is called Serena. And Kate is a complete whiny moron.
Good story and good start on a new series. Only downfall is some of the characters are a bit irritating but overall I enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next book
that's a no no. the girl is too silly, the hero takes turns between nice and mature and cry baby and aloof, and the others are cardboard unidimensional props. glad it was free.
Frustrating. I realize it's part 1 of 2, but I don't think I'll finish the second part. It wasn't fun to read. it was stressful and I don't want to go through another part before things get resolved.
The main character is kind of an idiot at times. I am pretty sure if your "dream" is to be on Broadway you wouldn't show up at your FIRST audition hung over.
I didn't get interested in the story until chapter 9, but after that, I was hooked. My biggest issue was editing. The story didn't match up sometimes and there were quite a few typos.
The characters were flakey and vapid. The plot was a train wreck, especially with locations and times. And the tone of the book was dull and uninteresting at best.
