Really compelling take on what the Greek pantheon/religion could look like in the modern world. Mel is an intriguing character who goes through a lot of development, and I like where she ends in this book.

I know that part of the intrigue with Greek mythology is that they have human spite and emotions, making their tantrums lethally dangerous, but I wish we could see them act more God-like than human-like. Almost like a switch, sort of what we see Hermes and Hades do near the end of the book. They seem civil until they're offended and their danger becomes clear. I sort of want that to be heightened to maximize on their otherworldly qualities. Characters dying like Chris makes them seem dangerous, but I want them to be more than that. Gods can be dangerous in other ways, such as changing people into objects or cursing them like Medusa. So far we've seen mostly threats and one death. I hope that the danger is compounded now that Mel has begun encroaching on Zeus's territory. Great read!

Mel, My Favorite Goddess.

Mel, the daughter of Hades and Persephone, wants to go to college to study computer programming. Being the youngest of all the gods and goddesses, she doesn’t know the extent of her power nor her place amidst the ranks of the deities. The more she discovers what she wants to do, the more toes she unintentionally steps on in her journey of self discovery.

Breaking away from traditions you’re expected to continue, rebelling against abusive family members, and creating your own path in life are some of the major themes within this story. I enjoyed reading this book and empathized deeply with Mel’s plight. This was easy to binge read and difficult to put down.

I’m looking forward to the sequel, and hopefully the third book of this series.
