Told backwards, from ending to beginning, follow along as Robert hunts down his father’s murderer, and uncovers a secret worth killing for.
Bonus Short Story: Infidelity
A man has been sitting on the bus-stop bench outside Marcus’ house for a couple hours now, and shows no sign of getting on any form of public transportation that grumbles past. Marcus, intent on discovering the man’s purpose, goes into spy mode and stalks the stalker. But when the truth is revealed, Marcus might just wish he’d stayed at home after-all.
Anthony Vicino is the Amazon best-selling author of The Firstborn Saga (Time Heist and Mind Breach). His stories have been read by millions of fans the world over, having appeared in the hallowed halls of The Future Chronicles, the Hugo Award winning pages of SFSignal, and the locally-famous OneLazyRobot.com.
Anthony is a humble world-slinger just trying to keep his writing hand warm in the frozen tundra of Minneapolis, MN. When he isn’t shivering and/or sitting in front of a computer screen contemplating all the different ways his character might escape the asylum with nothing but a fork, a shoelace, and a whole lot of chutzpah, Anthony is probably in the mountains climbing a rock.
Vicino writes the sort of whizz, bang, boom science fiction that features characters getting themselves into (and then out of) death-defying scenarios with an over-abundance of snark and questionable decision making.

This is really two books Hindsight and Infidelity so I will review them separately.
Hindsight: I loved this book. I think this is my favorite style from Anthony though concept wise I love the time stealing stuff when I read this father/son/ death story line it seems to fascinate me every time. The backwards to forwards timeline had a very Mark Danielewski feel where the style of writing actually becomes part of the reading experience. Very well done.
Infidelity: I didn't love this quite as much as I loved Hindsight but I still found it to be an enjoyably read. It was well written, the story was interesting and it read very quickly. Overall I liked it.
Great quote from the book "Doing his best to recall everything he’d ever seen in a spy movie, Marcus did what he assumed all men in a similar position would do—he followed from a safe distance in his Chrysler mini-van while humming the tune to Mission Impossible." Good stuff, good stuff!
These books were good, very much in tune with the authors style so enjoy them and if you do go out and get another book by Anthony.
Two very entertaining surprising short stories that are part of Vicino's "Starter library" he's giving for free to everybody who subscribes to the newsletter on his blog.
The first one is written backwards and is somewhat tragic whereas the second is macabre and funny. Both reminded me of Roald Dahl's short stories.
Great premise for both stories. I liked Hindsight better mainly because of the novel way it was presented to the reader. The entire time I was reading it I kept going back over what I'd already read in an attempt to make sure the time line worked. I would love to know what the little black box contained. Infidelity was darker, and less developed. I could have used some background information on Marcus and Erica so understand why both of them would jump to the conclusion that the other was having an affair. Great ideas here and fun reading if you're under a time constraint.
Standing Kill Orderlies starts with a murder and, as the story progresses, we keep going back in time to find out who did it and why.
Infidelity tells the story of Marcus, who finds himself being followed and takes action, leading to gruesome results.
Review:
I don't think I had ever read a story which starts by going back in time and then does not come back to present day in the end, wrapping up neatly. However, amazingly enough, this trip further into the past was very rewarding and enjoyable.
The only thing I didn't get was who did the old lady hear Max killing in the hospital, if Geoffrey had not died after all? Guess I must have missed something.
I also kind of wish I had known more about the device and the director. He struck me as an overly simplistic Dr Evil kind of fellow. I understand that is not the main focus of the story, but it still rubbed me the wrong way, especially with the cheesy lines about his voice dropping with desire. It was probably intended but... meh.
Overall, I liked the format of the story a bit more than the story itself, though it did have its moments. There were plenty of suspense and plot twists to keep me engaged. And I really liked the little old lady.
Infidelity wasn't nearly as good, in my opinion. Nonetheless, it had some suspenseful moments and an ending I found quite macabre. In this story I did not find myself wanting to know what happened next as much as the previous one, it was just ok.
Both are quick, entertaining reads and I do recommend them.
